This small and unpretentious family run [I'm guessing] restaurant serves delicious paper thin dosai, fantastic puttu, medu vada, idli and sambar that will have your wallet send a thank you card. We got there on a Sunday slightly before it opens at 10 am . Oh, and the chutney. Did I mention the chutney? I give it 4 stars only because of the decor. You're not going to impress your date or be impressed eating there, save for the quality of the food. It's definitely worth your time.

So I had Chicken Kottu Roti for the first time while in university in Montreal at a restaurant called Jolee (which will forever remain my favourite South Indian restaurant of all time - it's still in business at the time of the writing of this review, so if you live in Montreal or are visiting and love Kottu Roti, I highly recommend it) and all Chicken Kottu Roti is compared to this standard, lol. And I have to say, that the Chicken Kottu Roti at Ayini is the closest to Jolee's that I've had! Mind you it's much more expensive, but all food in Ottawa is more expensive than Montreal or Toronto, so I have resigned myself to that. We got the Chicken Kottu Roti ($11.99) and I was surprised to see Momos on the menu, so I got some Chicken Momos ($9.99) as well. The Chicken Kottu Roti had a good level of spice to it. It had a decent amount of meat in it and the cut up roti had a good level of chew to it. It was flavourful and I loved the medium spicy heat to it (which was the default, they did not ask me what spice level I wanted, so I just let them make it the way they normally would). I usually associate Momos with Tibetan or Nepalese restaurants, but apparently India has Momos as well. The Chicken Momos were delicious. They were steamed. The filling was ground chicken and it was mildly spicy. The chili dipping sauce added more heat to it. It came with raw onions and 2 cucumber slices, I guess to cut the heat. I didn't use too much of the dipping sauce, so it wasn't too spicy. The wrapper was soft but still had some chewiness to it, which I liked. I want to try their Chicken 65, Thali, and mutton rolls. Service was courteous. It took about 30 minutes for the food. They have some outdoor seating in front of the restaurant. The address is on Longfields Dr but the restaurant is actually on Via Modugno Ave. The curb on Via Modugno is really high, so passengers opening the car door need to be careful not to scrape the door on the curb. There is no parking lot, so it's street parking only. I highly recommend Ayini for South Indian food in Ottawa/Barrhaven.

So In the admist of COVID-19 and what is happening. My family attended Ottawa on the Labour Day…read morelong weekend and stumbled across this South Asian/Indian Restaurant , we attended this place for breakfast..greeted well and we ordered such dishes. The owner and staff was very friendly. I personally wanted to try the beef patties as the rest of my family ordered hoppers, I enjoyed. If I lived here, Id be ordering again. Edit: We were hungry again at dinner time in the late evening and stopped by again. At that time, I ordered the Beef Fried Rice. Once again the meal was spot on, tasted delicious, ,the rice was fresh and the vegetables were in perfect harmony, the egg mixed in the rice made it a savory hot meal. I also ordered spicy and the beef was juicy and moist ,it was worth it, I scraped the plate. The portions were also great. As the rest of my family ordered other dishes and were satisfied as well. To finish it off I tried my first Faluda. It actually was so amazing. So all in all, I just had to write this review. If you are ever in town for a nice South Asian/Indian cuisine. This is the joint. Thank you Master. Represent Ottawa well.
