Food was good and nice portions. Very expensive for a diner. Breakfast plates were around $21!

Lately it's been getting worse and worse. We ordered: Choose your own pasta + sauce (penne with Alfredo sauce) Cheeseburger with onion rings 2 grilled cheese sandwiches Nowhere on the menu does it say that choose your own pasta comes with onions or mushrooms, so when it arrived with both, we sent it back asking for neither. It came back.... still had onions in it. The cheeseburger and onion rings came with no onion rings, fries instead. The grilled cheese came with no cheese. It looks like cheese might have once been on the bread, but later removed. It was truly the most perplexing. I love to support local restaurants but this isn't the first disappointment from them (last time we were told we didn't read the menu correctly despite doing exactly that), and this time just sealed the deal that we will be unable to return unless there is new management and a better cook. We really liked ordering from here often, but things have taken such a severe turn for the worse that we cannot risk wasting more time and money. Buyer Beware Sincerely, Missing-The-Old-Eating-Place

One of my colleagues is from Perth and when I told her my husband and I were doing a day trip to Perth as part of our staycation, she recommended we have lunch at Fieldhouse. I love bakeries, so we followed her recommendation. The place is a lot smaller than I expected. It only has seating for 8 inside (4 tables of 2) and 4 picnic tables outside (so seating for about 16 outside). I got the Chicken and Brie sandwich ($14.75) and added a side salad for my husband and I to share ($5). My husband got the Ham and Swiss sandwich ($14.25) and we also got a cruffin ($5.25) for dessert, but ended up taking it home. Before we left my husband got an Americano to go ($3). I enjoyed my sandwich. The bread was crusty and held the ingredients of the sandwich well. The peppery arugula in the sandwich went well with the chicken and Brie. I was thrilled that the chicken was real roasted chicken breast meat (and not deli meat, lol). The aioli was flavourful but a bit excessive in quantity for my tastes. It dripped onto the plate with every bite, lol. The salad was leaf lettuce, shredded cabbage and carrots. Vegetables were fresh. I asked for the dressing on the side and it came as requested. The dressing was a creamy dressing and on the runny side. I'm glad I asked for it on the side, as I used only about a third of it. I had a bite of my husband's sandwich and it was ok, but I much preferred mine. He liked his better, so it all worked out. His was on a fluffier and softer bread. The ham was deli ham, but it tasted ok. The Swiss cheese was nippy. Service was pleasant. My husband enjoyed his Americano. We had the Brownie Cruffin at home. The pastry was flakey and delicious. The chocolate filling was like a rich chocolate pudding. It was very decadent. Overall we enjoyed our meal, but I found it a bit pricey, but I guess in today's economy, this is what you pay for sandwiches. Street parking only. (125)

The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

Prepare to be amazed............... We had heard about his place for months and how awesome it was so we finally decided to try it out. When we got there at mid-day on a Saturday there was a line up out the door. My wife suggested we go for a walk to let the line thin out a but. We got back and the line had thinned out so we went in. They have a set number of sandwiches and you can also make your own, but we decided to try their set sandwiches. I got the Parkdale and the Holland, my wife got the Bayswater, and we picked up a Scott for my daughter. When we got home, we were nothing short of blown away. The quality of the sandwich was amazing - the bread was light and fluffy, a ton of meat, fresh veggies, great sauces, just incredible quality. More importantly, fantastic value for money. Even more importantly, the staff were wonderful - they chatted with us but kept the line moving - super professional and friendly. The quality of the sandwiches here rivals Old Tyme - no word of a lie. The bread they use is very very close to what we had in Lafayette and the quality of the fillings is outstanding. Don't walk, run to this place. It will change your life for what you think about sandwiches.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Cute little place in Stittsville…read moreselling tasty soups and sandwiches. The Long Version: I had lunch at Wiches Cauldron recently and it was great. I got the Chicken Sandwich ($15.95). It was sliced real chicken breast meat, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, cucumbers, picked onions and fig jam. It usually comes with mayo, but I asked them to omit it. All sandwiches come with a mini 4 oz soup. I chose the curried carrot and squash soup. The sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a Kaiser and it's from Carp Bakery. It was soft and very fresh. I loved that the meat was real chicken and not deli meat. The fig jam was tasty and gave the sandwich a nice sweet taste. The soup was a bit watery, but was full of flavour. It had a strong curry flavour and the coconut milk in it made it a bit creamy. I enjoyed it. Funny story: I ordered the chicken sandwich. They ask your name for the order. The lady who ordered after me also got the chicken sandwich but she asked for no cheese. The cashier announced to the kitchen "no cheese on the chicken sandwich" and the kitchen asked "which order? Jennifer's?" And the cashier said "no, the next one, I haven't punched it in yet." Lol. I chimed in "I love cheese, I definitely want cheese on my sandwich!" The man in the kitchen said "alright, extra cheese for Jennifer!" And the lady after me said "yeah, you can have my cheese." Haha. So I got two slices of cheese in my sandwich. Score! Lol. Everyone working there was super nice and friendly. It's a small place, so the cash and the kitchen are right next to each other. I took my order to go, but there's seating to dine in. I noticed they have a small amount of branded merchandise, like baseball caps. There is free parking in their private parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Fun facts: The Wiches Cauldron started off as a food truck in the early/mid 2010s. Some time in the early 2020s they moved into their present location which was Red Gables Creperie before (it was also briefly Red Gables Ramen before they rebranded and started selling crepes instead of ramen). The Short Version: 24-hour Tim Hortons in Carleton Place…read more Their baked goods selection is better than most locations. The Long Version: There are 2 Tim Hortons locations not far from each other along Highway 7 in Carleton Place. This one is the full standalone restaurant behind the Pioneer gas station (the other one is a small kiosk inside the Circle K attached to the Esso gas station). This location has more selection of baked goods than most locations I've been to in Ottawa. They had several varieties of biscuits, the coconut cream donut and eclairs. Note that Tim Hortons eclairs are filled with whipped cream, not custard, which is my preference. However, very few locations even carry it, so I do get a bit excited when I see it, lol. We stopped here for breakfast and I got a bacon breakfast sandwich on an English muffin and my husband got a sausage breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and a large coffee ($2.07). The breakfast sandwiches are usually $4.29 each but my husband had a deal on the app to get 2 breakfast sandwiches for $6. My sandwich was good. No complaints. The English muffin wasn't burned and the sandwich contained all the ingredients it was supposed to. My standards aren't too high for fast food chains, lol. Staff were polite and the wait wasn't too long. There's seating in the restaurant but we took it to go. Lots of free parking on-site. Review #164 (2025)
