Always has been a bit fun to browse, but as stated above, the trade policy is cheesy. I had a bad experience, real assholes run this place. By mistake I left a nice Taschen erotic art book they wouldn't buy because it was smutty (!!) Next day I went to get it, they had literally thrown it in the dumpster. I was pissed. They put the blame squarely on me. I called the manager at another store, he was not at all interested. "Books are just a commodity." So this breed of bookstore management is some type of weird conservative warehouse breed, does that make sense. read more

I've never experienced rude service here, as some other reviewers have. I can't say the employees were bend-over-backwards-friendly but I don't have any complaints. Book Nook is your old fashioned, no frills, but very organized used book store. If you collect books like I do, you need local and affordable used bookstores to find your discounted gems. This is one of those places. Don't expect to be pampered here or get into literary discussions with the staff - just buy something. First trip to the Book Nook in a decade and the few changes I noticed are improvements, to wit, organization, lighting and cleanliness. If you've ever heard of or visited Chamblin Bookmine in Jacksonville, this is a similar experience. Twists and turns and aisles of books. A large music and movie section, including records (!) is at the front of the store, along with an extensive comic selection. The prices are either really good (for vinyl), or really bad (for books and dvds). This is not the place to go if you know exactly what you want and don't have hours to spend getting it. It's a place to wander and explore, though it can be overwhelming. A big drawback is the lack of reading areas. With that large of a selection, this is a necessity. You might find an occasional chair that was probably brought out of the office by staff, but that's about it. read more

I love this shop. It has really come into its own in last few years, too, as far as being better organized and offering every category one could want in a used book store. Besides the books I always like browsing for dvd's and cd's. There's a large vinyl section if you're interested plus comics and collectibles. I can never get out of here without discovering a forgotten favorite among the sci-fi paperbacks and now there's even a recent/hardback section that's pretty big. The staff is always friendly and willing to help or make suggestions. Highly highly recommended! One of my favorite places to hit on the weekend. read more

FANTASTIC used book/cd/dvd/collectibles store! I have lost myself for hours many a time inside this house of delights. I'm there on a weekly basis, can't keep my money in my pocket. The staff is helpful, good natured, and quick (as quick as borderline librarians CAN be, lol). Only, only, only complaint is that some of the folks behind the counter are vehemently conservative, and can sometimes project their partisan politics throughout the entire front of the shop, which can be very distracting while perusing thousands and thousands of items. And a little obnoxious at times. But ce la vie, not my store! Other than that, couldn't be happier to live so close to a such a great establishment. read more

An Atlanta institution. I love this place and enjoy sifting through stacks of classic Marvel Comics, various DVDs. The used CD section doesn't offer too many bargains, but it's ok from time to time. FYI, they also have a used vinyl section, which I haven't tapped into yet. read more

I've recommended Book Nook to my book customers looking for used/out-of-print titles for many years. I find Book Nook staff knowledgeable in a different way from other shops; of course, some staff are (update: were) teenagers. If you keep looking, you'll eventually find it here. I've shopped at this great store since 1975, at its previous location at Buford Highway and Clairmont Road. Though primarily a used book store, they do sell new books, as well as Lps, CDs, VHS movies and DVDs. It's my favorite Atlanta comics shop, most of all. New comics are discounted 10%; or, when your combined total purchase reaches 50.00, the whole thing receives a 10% discount. Overstock and bargain bin books and comics are really interesting here. The children's section is quite good, now that I shop there, too. Owner, Alix Nunan, is a great soul, who will talk for a really long time. His fine staff gives great service to customers. The store opens early and closes late, too: a real bookshop. Tell them I sent you! read more

They have a large variety of comics silver to modern. Prices are reasonable but they will not negotiate. I was able to find some hard to find stuff. The employees are need a lesson in customer service though, never once asked if I was finding everything I needed or thanked me for making the purchases or offer me a bag either; he just walked away. read more

My fiancé and I went in because she loves used book stores. I was initially impressed at the collection of vinyl, CDs and movies. However, I quickly realized that the prices were steep. I found my fiancé in the books and asked her about the prices. Apparently, the used books are 60% of retail price which is steep considering that's how much members pay for new releases at Barnes & Noble. So my recommendation is that if you have the Internet use it. If you're just bored and have some time, look around, find something you want and buy it off the internet. read more

Sellers beware!!! I took in a box of vinyls, which I found out were worth about $200 total. He cherry picked through the box, which I was ok with, but only offered me $6 for a stack of 7 or 8. In addition, I had an entire binder of comics which he offered me a nickel a piece. In total, those were worth over $150. He really tried to screw me. I understand that he has to make money too, but to offer me fractions of pennies on the dollar is just low and shady. I will NEVER set foot in his store again. read more

I love going to bookstores particularly secondhand bookstores. One could buy the books online but there's something nice about browsing for an particular book or simply seeing what there is. However I was very disappointed at the pricing structure. I won't be going back again : they are certainly pricing themselves out of the market or should be in my opinion. They books are sold at 60% of the price of the book cover whether it's from the 1990s or 70s or today. A secondhand book that should be just a few dollars can be almost as much as a new book compared to Barnes & Noble's with a 20% discount. There are the same books at thrift books.com and Amazon.com for just a few dollars and this competition should send your business elsewhere. They are helpful but overpriced++. read more

This is an iconic Atlanta place with cool reading material and vintage collectibles. Going here is always an adventure and you are sure to discover something new. Book nook is a lovely shop! Such a cozy feel, so many book! Loved roaming the shelves. I will say however I felt a strong spirit vibe in the place, but not a threatening one. Something breathed on my neck and followed around the book shelves. Great place for practicing mediums and ghost enthusiasts! Honestly want to go back and try to communicate. CD's, records and assorted odds' & ends can be found here. Spend $10 on new comic's get 10% off. When they get variant comic book covers, they go up on the shelf and don't charge extra. Note: They have an enormous amount of books, so it's best you go there and look if you are trying to find a special or certain book. They do their best to keep everything in order. LOVE these people! Customer service is FANTASTIC! Mike (young blonde) was attentive to a time sensitive request that I made, getting me in and out of the store in about 1 minute! My classic horror movies were a hit at the gig I needed them for! In addition to this specific situation, Mike has since been extremely friendly and helpful with anything I needed in the store. It's nice to walk in and see that smile on his face. When he couldn't help me, he was glad to refer me to another employee who could. This brings me to Anthony. Clearly Anthony knew exactly what I wanted when I gave him a bit of an offbeat movie genre request. He took the challenge with a smile and turned me toward several movies that i thoroughly enjoyed watching. He seems to know his stuff! Like Mike, Anthony was incredibly kind and understanding. He did his job (suggesting a great movie), but his joy to do it is what really means something. Both of these guys are absolutely wonderful (GIVE THEM A RAISE/BONUS, THEY DESERVE IT), the movies were on point, and the character of the store is charming. I went to this store for the first time today, I think I am in love! Isles and isles of books! I could spend a full day in this store and still not see all the books. I found the staff helpful and not overbearing. I don't like when the employees are always on your heels or make you feel like you are being watched; I was able browse, read and relax among the books in peace, not something easily found in this rush, rush world, thank-you. This place is a gem, fun to scavenge around in and kill some time at. It is basically a thrift store for books so don't expect it to smell great or be super organized. If going for a popular item you probably won't find the best deal here. Every time I go to this store I end up spending more than I planned. They have a huge selection of books and it is always changing. The staff is great and will help you find books as well as issues with credit. Great example....I had thrown away the credit recipt my lady had for trading in books for years. She was very displeased with me and kept bringing it up over and over. We are at the store in line with a pile of books and she is still giving me grief. They guy recognized us and after I told him the tale as a long shot he listened and was willing to give us a brand me store credit. I mean I threw away my proff of credit and he was cool enough and understood we would be back to buy more books for sure so he helped us out big time. After all I never have any sci fi credit on books and that is all I seem to buy so he is going to make out on top in the end and he knows that. He stepped up and made my day actually. Thank you.
