Aisles of books
Robert S.

Amazing local bookstore. Multiple employees working to answer questions you have. Prices were competitive with other book sellers. Quiet with huge selection of fiction and nonfiction books. My only issue is they did not have magazines. My personal rule is if I don't buy a book I can at least buy a magazine to support the business. In any event, I will check this place out before giving to Amazon or Barnes and Nobles.

My goodies from Eagle Eye Books!

Fantastic book shop! Came here on a cold Sunday afternoon, but was warmed up by the nice welcoming of the staff, and the wide selection of books. After Yelping for book stores around me for hours, I came across this book store and was pleasantly surprised. Located in a shopping plaza, from the outside looking in, this bookstore appears small, but once you go inside there are numerous bookshelves filled from top to bottom. I didn't really have a particular book in mind, so with the help of the nicely labeled aisles, I was able to easily browse and find some pretty unique finds. I left with 3 books and a book mark for $17, so I'd say, I got a great bargain. I'll definitely be coming back to this bookstore!

This place is great. See pics of the sidewalk sale. $1 got paperback and 2$ for hardback. Conveniently located in a shopping mall with delicious places like tea leaf and creamery

I mean, this is a local bookstore. I've got to show love, as these things are going to one day end up on the extinct list. I visited this past weekend, to check out The Minimalists' book signing. I'll be honest; a little more than a year ago, I had mentoring sessions with Ryan, which I was COMPLETELY in a rut in my life, so I was interested in meeting him in person. I even sent an email to give him a heads-up. Parking was a biyotch, since SO MANY people came. I even ran into fellow Yelpers Joy W. and Sean L., which was super awesome. You can check out the photos that I'll upload once I complete this review. The shop as that awesome vibe that you would expect of a bookstore in Decatur. It was homey and I also freaked when I walked in and saw a display with Neil Gaiman's work. Maybe some of you don't know this, but I am a huge fan of his and have the 5-volume Absolute Sandman collection. The leatherbound beauties weigh a ton and I almost regret owning them every single time I move, which has been on average every 2 years of my entire lifetime. (Maybe this is why I get fidgety when staying in any one situation for too long?!) Anyway, I saw paperback versions of Sandman, as well as some of his novels there. I mostly paid attention to this before turning my attention to Ryan Nicodemus and Joshua Fields Millburn. After they chatted, read some excerpts from their book, "Everything That Remains," and answered some questions from obvious fans of their message to not be some caught up in American consumerism, my friend and I waited for at least an hour to see them. We went back into the Reading Room, which looked like going into a secret room of an old house. It had that kind of musty feel to it, but I really liked it. I felt like I was in someone's personal library. Store clerks asked if visitors wanted to buy the book for the signing, to which I declined (Ryan made his fair share from me, haha). I liked that they were not shoving the proposition down anyone's throat and just invited me to hurry back to see them again. I admit that in today's digital age and even with The Minimalists' recommendation to not accumulate unnecessary physical possessions, it is hard to scream from a hilltop that everyone should buy tons of books so that if/when they move, the bottom of their boxes can burst open at the duct-tape seams, resulting in 500 lbs. of book falling onto unsuspecting feet. That would so suck. But if you are looking to pick up a book that you can't live without, one that you plan on lending to friends and family (hey, don't shove it down their throats either, okay, you mad bookworm?), come visit Eagle Eye Book Shop. You can even check out their used books (which totally means that you can unload your own books that are collecting mountains of dust in the corner of your bedroom--just do us asthmatics a favor and get rid of some of those pesky dust bunnies).

I love this little bookstore!…read more Well, there's nothing little about the space and endless opportunities to find literary greatness at this bookstore in the heart of Decatur. I've had the opportunity to visit Little Shop of Stories numerous times since I moved to Atlanta, but my visits totally hit differently now that I'm a mom. As someone raised by a teacher (with help from Reading Rainbow and Levar Burton), I've passed this onto my son although he can't read yet, lol. So we are always adding to his little library as he grows. Beyond books, Little Shop of Stories also carries so many fun educational toys for kids and books for readers of all ages. It's so easy to get lost in their large collections, but luckily they keep it incredibly organized and make it easy to find whatever your imagination can dream of. After finding a few goodies to take home to my little one, I strolled around the store a bit more and took in the whimsical vibes. Just being in there lifted my mood! Seriously a wonderful place to transport yourself into the magical world of books and discovery, no matter your age.

COMMUNITY STAPLE Enough said!!!…read more No but seriously this is the pinnacle of Downtown Decatur perfection. I'm so happy that not only does Little Shop of Stories continue to survive, but it is unequivocally THRIVING. in a word of online shopping and digital interaction, this community cornerstone understands that they can achieve a unique experience by simply continuing to do what they've always done, and continue to do it proudly! If you haven't been in a while, it's worth a revisit because as of this past fall (2025) they've revamped the interior. It is truly incredible. Stop in as an adult for coffee with or without a child! You won't regret it!

Very nerdy vibe and you could spend forever browsing. It's nostalgic in there. The other reviews saying the place is kinda disorganized are correct. I didn't think it unsanitary, though. Probably a good place to hit if you're a geeky collector of something niche... but I'm not that cool, all I have is my CDs. Thanks guys!

My Review of the Book Crook: Waiting 48 Years to Leave This Google Review…read more On my 13th birthday decades ago, my parents opened a small new-and-used bookstore called The Book Trading Post here in the Atlanta area. They ran it successfully for 12 years. My father had connected with Alex, the owner of the original Book Nook on or near North Decatur/Clairmont, who promised a great variety of around 30,000 books. What arrived instead were massive duplicates -- 30 to 50 copies of the same titles. It was a horrible, upsetting experience that stayed with my father. At the time I was 13 and didn't really know what it all meant -- I just knew he was upset. My father passed in 1981 after chemotherapy and radiation at Emory. Recently, I brought in a large personal collection to the current Book Nook Decatur location -- over 130 albums plus many books, including rare 1940s-1960s sci-fi classics and a signed copy of Miracle in Atlanta. As a longtime collector of coins, books, comics, historic color brochures, and more, I knew the value easily exceeded $500, likely more. I first spoke with the manager on March 25th of this year. He gave a standard percentage quote and left a message. When I returned on March 27th to collect payment, I received just $70. They kept all the books -- which filled the entire counter on the right when you walk in -- and roughly half the albums. I left with two small suitcases. Walking around the store afterward, I saw their selling prices and realized they stand to make a substantial profit. I spoke with the manager (Doogie, like Doogie Howser from the 1980s show) and then with an employee named Scott, who has been there for years. I shared some of this backstory. Scott was pretend friendly and even suggested I didn't really need to write a bad review. That conversation left me feeling extremely uncomfortable, and that discomfort is exactly why I decided to write this review now. The owner is very old (likely in his late 80s or early 90s) and does not come into the store. I felt the manager was dishonest in the way the offer and process were handled. It all felt like history repeating itself in the worst way -- like a scene from Red Dawn: "Avenge me." In the end, I just took the money to be done with it. This isn't just about one low payout. Most people don't know the old story of The Book Trading Post and that first disappointing deal with the Book Nook. Now the full 48-year circle -- from my parents' store in the 1970s to today -- is part of the public record. If you have anything of real value (books, albums, collectibles), think carefully before bringing it here. Get your own realistic expectations and consider other options. P.S. For comedy purposes, I've officially renamed this place The Book Crook.

This bookstore is the epitome of all positive representation, from the shelves filled with books featuring Black children and the fact the owner is a Black woman, it's definitely what you want children to see. My organization had a private Martin Luther King, Jr. event at this bookstore. Bunnie Hilliard, the owner, was a dream to work with. She helped us create and curate books for a book drive that donated books to DFCS and Nicolas House. She took time to read a book about Dr. King to the children. The bookstore is intimate, quaint, and well organized with books for various children's age groups. I'm so happy it's in existence and that it can have such a positive impact on children and culture.

I'm happy to support not only a Black woman-owned bookstore but one that is local to home. I have ordered many books from Brave + Kind from the website to give to my son and some of his friends. I follow the store on Instagram, which seems to be managed by owner, Bunnie Hilliard. Her love of books and of educating children (and even us children at heart) oozes from her posts and while we are being pretty cautious during this time, I can't wait to take our kiddo to Bunnie's beloved bookstore when we truly get an all-clear to venture back out in the world. If you are looking for a bookstore to get good reads for your kiddos (you can get gift bundles or sign up for a subscription!) and maybe some for yourself, head over to the website to order books online to later pick up on the porch of the store.
