    This was my $40 haul

I've always wanted to check out a Half Price Books as a lot of my Star Wars brethren around the country rave about them; The good: Clean! Organized! Someone in management clearly has OCD; not a SINGLE book was out of place. The okay: The prices were just good. Everything in the photo I posted was $40. I kind of expected somewhat lower prices, considering the crazy deals I've seen online, but I guess the hype wagon got me again. The happy: The workers were all very nice and seemed to be in high spirits. It's nice walking into a bookstore and not getting yelled at or wondering if anyone actually works there. 4.1 first editions out of 5.0 [4.1/5.0 s]

Decatur is bustling with new shops and eateries. Half price books is in a shopping center with Walmart and LA fitness at the corner of church street and Lawrenceville highway. Clean, bright and well labeled sections. There is a section to sell back books, cds, dvds, video games and consoles. They sell all of those, they even have cassettes and turntables (Bluetooth capability). The selling process is soooo easy. Bring in your books, show your id, wait a few minutes, they'll call you over the intercom, get a receipt if they can resell them, cash out and done. It was like walking on the yellow brick road. They have roomy aisles, seating and great deals. Creme de la Creme, there's a wonderful children's section. Whether your a book lover or not it's a great place even if just for the nostalgia.

I have sold books to video games to them, honestly they will in most cases give you something but I would say it's a last resort. I have some video games and books in my trunk that I have been driving around for months with and just couldn't find buyers for so when I end up in the parking lot of the plaza I was okay with getting some money from them. If you are selling your college textbooks here do it within the last week of finals to get the most money you can like most college buyback shops. On the hand of finding a ton of books, records, dvds, video games and etc. you can possibly find them at an okay price. Don't know if I can recommend them for buying more than a hanging out place where you can read a bunch of cool books.

My eyes, nose and wallet were impressed with Half Price Books. When I think of discounted books I think of chaotic stacks of dusty books that flare up my allergies. At this store, there were zero musty odors...just clean books organized into categories like you would find at any other bookstore. They even have grocery aisle signs to direct customers to various subjects. There were a wide variety of titles to choose from and I was happy that the employees left me alone to browse undisturbed. Not sure if my finds were new or used but they were certainly in like-new condition. At least, they looked identical to the books I buy from big-box booksellers. The name says half price but the books I bought were more deeply discounted than that: The 100 Greatest New Orleans Creole Recipes (paperback) List Price - $15.95 Amazon - $15.95 Half Price Books $5.99 My New Orleans (hardcover) List Price - $45 Amazon - $28.12 Half Price Books - $9.99 The I Hate to Cook Book (hardcover) List Price - $25 Amazon - $15.93 Half Price Books - $7.99 They sell audiobooks, DVDs, calendars, greeting cards, vinyl albums (vintage and new ones) and more. You can't sip and read since there's no in-store café but there is a Starbucks right across the parking lot. It's less than half a football field away. Although I have a membership at another bookseller, in the future I plan to make this my first stop. The bargains at Half Price Books are undeniable and with the holidays approaching it's good to know I can find affordable books and gifts for my family here.

Lots of great books. Most are barely used. They also pay you if you have books to sell. Staff are courteous and helpful.

My Review of the Book Crook: Waiting 48 Years to Leave This Google Review…read more On my 13th birthday decades ago, my parents opened a small new-and-used bookstore called The Book Trading Post here in the Atlanta area. They ran it successfully for 12 years. My father had connected with Alex, the owner of the original Book Nook on or near North Decatur/Clairmont, who promised a great variety of around 30,000 books. What arrived instead were massive duplicates -- 30 to 50 copies of the same titles. It was a horrible, upsetting experience that stayed with my father. At the time I was 13 and didn't really know what it all meant -- I just knew he was upset. My father passed in 1981 after chemotherapy and radiation at Emory. Recently, I brought in a large personal collection to the current Book Nook Decatur location -- over 130 albums plus many books, including rare 1940s-1960s sci-fi classics and a signed copy of Miracle in Atlanta. As a longtime collector of coins, books, comics, historic color brochures, and more, I knew the value easily exceeded $500, likely more. I first spoke with the manager on March 25th of this year. He gave a standard percentage quote and left a message. When I returned on March 27th to collect payment, I received just $70. They kept all the books -- which filled the entire counter on the right when you walk in -- and roughly half the albums. I left with two small suitcases. Walking around the store afterward, I saw their selling prices and realized they stand to make a substantial profit. I spoke with the manager (Doogie, like Doogie Howser from the 1980s show) and then with an employee named Scott, who has been there for years. I shared some of this backstory. Scott was pretend friendly and even suggested I didn't really need to write a bad review. That conversation left me feeling extremely uncomfortable, and that discomfort is exactly why I decided to write this review now. The owner is very old (likely in his late 80s or early 90s) and does not come into the store. I felt the manager was dishonest in the way the offer and process were handled. It all felt like history repeating itself in the worst way -- like a scene from Red Dawn: "Avenge me." In the end, I just took the money to be done with it. This isn't just about one low payout. Most people don't know the old story of The Book Trading Post and that first disappointing deal with the Book Nook. Now the full 48-year circle -- from my parents' store in the 1970s to today -- is part of the public record. If you have anything of real value (books, albums, collectibles), think carefully before bringing it here. Get your own realistic expectations and consider other options. P.S. For comedy purposes, I've officially renamed this place The Book Crook.

I've had the opportunity to visit Little Shop of Stories numerous times since I moved to Atlanta, but my visits totally hit differently now that I'm a mom. As someone raised by a teacher (with help from Reading Rainbow and Levar Burton), I've passed this onto my son although he can't read yet, lol. So we are always adding to his little library as he grows. Beyond books, Little Shop of Stories also carries so many fun educational toys for kids and books for readers of all ages. It's so easy to get lost in their large collections, but luckily they keep it incredibly organized and make it easy to find whatever your imagination can dream of. After finding a few goodies to take home to my little one, I strolled around the store a bit more and took in the whimsical vibes. Just being in there lifted my mood! Seriously a wonderful place to transport yourself into the magical world of books and discovery, no matter your age.

I'm so happy that not only does Little Shop of Stories continue to survive, but it is unequivocally THRIVING. in a word of online shopping and digital interaction, this community cornerstone understands that they can achieve a unique experience by simply continuing to do what they've always done, and continue to do it proudly! If you haven't been in a while, it's worth a revisit because as of this past fall (2025) they've revamped the interior. It is truly incredible. Stop in as an adult for coffee with or without a child! You won't regret it!

I hadn't even played a CD since about 2010, so it was finally the time to rid myself of the few hundred CDs that had been in storage for all of these years. Wuxtry Records is a quirky looking music store that looked like it specialized in selling used CDs and vinyl records. I had called the store asking one of the employees about them buying my CD collection, but he couldn't commit to anything until he saw the condition of the CDs and their genres. He explained that he would not buy CDs if they already had enough inventory for that title, but would consider buying rock CDs. I had a lot of those! Parking was easy on the weekday that I went, and I didn't have any trouble finding a space in the free parking lot that is shared by all of the retail stores in the shopping center. I brought in about 200 CDs to the front counter and was told to come back in about an hour while they went through all of the CDs and determined which ones they were going to buy. During my wait, I just browsed in the store. There were lots of CD titles and groups that I have never heard of, and lots of familiar ones too, and they all looked in great condition. And there was a lot of quirkiness! In the end, there were about 40 CDs that I was not able to sell to Wuxtry Records. This was fair to me and was a good experience. I didn't receive anywhere near the money that I spent to get these CDs, but my goal was to get something out of the CDs that I knew I wasn't every going to play again.

I had heard things about the owner, Warren, but I always gave him the benefit of the doubt because I personally had only had good interactions with him. I've bought plenty of used and new CDs and records here and thought I was a regular. Lately, I've come in just to browse, which is normal for a record store. Today, about 15 minutes into looking around, Warren asked if I needed help. I said no, I was just browsing. Out of nowhere, he got cold and said the last few times I'd been there I didn't buy anything, then kept repeating that I never buy anything, which is completely untrue. I calmly told him I've spent plenty of money here before and that it's okay to look without buying, but he kept going on in front of other customers and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. Eventually, I just walked out, shocked. It felt like I was talking to a completely different person. I genuinely thought I was a familiar customer and that he'd understand that sometimes people browse and sometimes they buy. Instead, I was treated like a burden. Maybe he was having a bad day, but that's not an excuse to take it out on customers, especially regulars. Honestly, maybe I would buy more CDs if he actually stocked more of them. I've seen him turn away people trying to sell CDs and decline them rudely, which hurts the selection. As another local record shop owner told me, Warren is just a "bitter old man", and after today, I believe it. As a warning to regulars and new customers, watch your back, because you never know when he'll turn on you. I won't be coming back, and I do not recommend this store.
