Lots of great books. Most are barely used. They also pay you if you have books to sell. Staff are courteous and helpful.

I love Half Priced Books and always jump at the chance to visit. This store had lots of aisle space. The SciFi section was definitely SciFi/ Fantasy. The folks were nice. Super busy with ppl selling their old stuff. Great selection of some cool books and VHS tapes. read more

I have not been to a half price books in ages so when i saw there was in the Atlanta area while i was visiting, I had to stop by. The store is a great place to find valuable items, books, of course. But not just books, they have video games, music, DVDs, and more. It's really a self contained entertainment store at a fraction of the cost. Basically a budget Barnes & Noble without cutting the quality. While i didn't do it here, you still can trade, sell your items to them. The staff was helpful and friendly. I ended up with a few cookbooks for my diet I'll never go on but at least the books were cheap so i don't feel like i wasted my money! read more

I've passed this bookstore so many times on my way to other places in the plaza, and I decided to go in today to kill some time. What a wonderful bookshop! I have to keep myself from going too frequently! The staff are friendly and helpful. The selection is large, though I do wish there was more variety in the graphic novels. The Drama and Poetry sections were small, as well, but I had specific texts/authors I was looking for on this last trip. I think there are books for most price ranges (I got some for $2.99 and some for $18). There are new books as well as used, and they have records, too! Every time I visit this store I leave with an armful of books! Book lovers will love this place! read more

I've always wanted to check out a Half Price Books as a lot of my Star Wars brethren around the country rave about them; The good: Clean! Organized! Someone in management clearly has OCD; not a SINGLE book was out of place. The okay: The prices were just good. Everything in the photo I posted was $40. I kind of expected somewhat lower prices, considering the crazy deals I've seen online, but I guess the hype wagon got me again. I was on the search for any books relating to Italy. I was greeted by a clerk when I walked in. The store was nicely laid out and easy to navigate so I didn't have to ask any clerks for help. Seemed like I was in a similar store somewhere else in the US before, can't remember where, so am wondering if this is a chain. Anyway, I did find a couple of Italian language learning books that I picked up. But first, as I usually do in stores like this, is check the Amazon price on line first. Both books were cheaper in-store so I bought them here. The check out clerk was pleasant and the experience was a good one. I seriously can't get enough of this place! Not gonna lie, initially the thought of purchasing a pre- owned book was quite unappealing. The store itself is small, but very organized. They rarely have all of the books on my list, but I've found some gems. The books that I've purchased are well maintained. The prices are excellent and they send coupons when you join their email list. The staff goes above and beyond to assist you. The deals that I've received make up for the lack of aesthetics or relaxing environment that you would find at a larger bookstore. If you're looking for a great read and are balling on a budget, definitely give them a shot. read more

Decatur is bustling with new shops and eateries. Half price books is in a shopping center with Walmart and LA fitness at the corner of church street and Lawrenceville highway. Clean, bright and well labeled sections. There is a section to sell back books, cds, dvds, video games and consoles. They sell all of those, they even have cassettes and turntables (Bluetooth capability). The selling process is soooo easy. Bring in your books, show your id, wait a few minutes, they'll call you over the intercom, get a receipt if they can resell them, cash out and done. It was like walking on the yellow brick road. They have roomy aisles, seating and great deals. Creme de la Creme, there's a wonderful children's section. Whether your a book lover or not it's a great place even if just for the nostalgia. read more

Another store that carries Used vinyl is on the price gouging bandwagon. I have however, found a couple of things in the $1.00 shelf worth buying. For the most part... their priced on used (mostly beat to hell) records are ridiculous. It's like... oh that was popular band, jack up the price. read more

I have sold books to video games to them, honestly they will in most cases give you something but I would say it's a last resort. I have some video games and books in my trunk that I have been driving around for months with and just couldn't find buyers for so when I end up in the parking lot of the plaza I was okay with getting some money from them. If you are selling your college textbooks here do it within the last week of finals to get the most money you can like most college buyback shops. On the hand of finding a ton of books, records, dvds, video games and etc. you can possibly find them at an okay price. Don't know if I can recommend them for buying more than a hanging out place where you can read a bunch of cool books. read more

Cool place to check out! I was in the area and decided to drop by. Definitely has some interesting book finds --older editions of textbooks, some brand new books (still in their plastic!), and some gently used It was a cool mix of everything --I would say it definitely inspired some book choices for me, but only because I also looked up most finds on Amazon as well (sorry!) I would say prices are pretty comparable to Amazon as well, maybe a little more or less, depending. I ended up picking up an Anne Sexton poetry book and an older edition of this textbook I was interested in for a grand total of about $20. Not bad, and worth a visit just for inspiration or if you're doing some nearby shopping! read more

I love Half Price Books! The staff is always super welcoming and I have found some great reads here. They have an option to sell used books, movies, and games for cash. As a graduate student, I love being able to use this option for selling some of my textbooks, especially because other stores typically just offer store credit. My eyes, nose and wallet were impressed with Half Price Books. When I think of discounted books I think of chaotic stacks of dusty books that flare up my allergies. At this store, there were zero musty odors...just clean books organized into categories like you would find at any other bookstore. They even have grocery aisle signs to direct customers to various subjects. There were a wide variety of titles to choose from and I was happy that the employees left me alone to browse undisturbed. Not sure if my finds were new or used but they were certainly in like-new condition. At least, they looked identical to the books I buy from big-box booksellers. The name says half price but the books I bought were more deeply discounted than that: The 100 Greatest New Orleans Creole Recipes (paperback) List Price - $15.95 Amazon - $15.95 Half Price Books $5.99 My New Orleans (hardcover) List Price - $45 Amazon - $28.12 Half Price Books - $9.99 The I Hate to Cook Book (hardcover) List Price - $25 Amazon - $15.93 Half Price Books - $7.99 They sell audiobooks, DVDs, calendars, greeting cards, vinyl albums (vintage and new ones) and more. You can't sip and read since there's no in-store café but there is a Starbucks right across the parking lot. It's less than half a football field away. Although I have a membership at another bookseller, in the future I plan to make this my first stop. The bargains at Half Price Books are undeniable and with the holidays approaching it's good to know I can find affordable books and gifts for my family here. read more

First visit to the new (to me) location in the newly developed part of Decatur. Yes I lived in the neighborhood back when this was a Big Lots. Went in here looking for records, didn't find any I wanted. Bought a couple DVDs. The selection here seems to be smaller than other HPBs I visit but hey stop in and check them out and see if they have what you are looking for. read more

Half Price Books is a well organized, nicely laid out bookstore. It's not huge but not small, either. I can see spending an hour here poking through the sections that interest me. You'll find plenty of high quality books plus some DVDs and even vinyl records. Most everything I picked up was in great, almost new condition. They have a cash policy for selling back, which I like. Some other used bookstores only offer credit for future purchases, which is fine if you're in the book swapping mode. But if you're looking to unload your library, cash rules. The downside of the policy of having only 'almost new' books on their shelves is that they're apparently not going to be interested in your 'more than gently used' books. Easy parking. read more

A devoted selection for McSweeney's took me by pleasant surprise along with the right proper assortment of CDs at a reasonable price. A former regular at Half Price Books stores in CA back in my student days, I was pleased to see this branch open up in my backyard here. My hazy memory of HPB stores included mildly haphazard shelves, books overflowing onto the floor, tight spaces [insert pang of used bookstore fandom nostalgia here] etc. If that's what you're seeking, you may be disappointed. This store is well-lit, clean & spotless, and book inventory is well-organized. My focus these days is more on vinyl than books, so my comments will be likewise centered on their music section. By & large, pricing is fair - though I've noticed in the last year or so, definitely increasing. If inventory turned over more quickly, I might also visit more frequently. Quality is decent though you'll be hard-pressed to find near-mint examples as most items exhibit varying degrees of wear-&-tear. Selection is average (note - this is not a specialty vinyl store), with pleasant surprises from time to time, especially if you patiently rifle through the $2 section. One beef I have with HPB - the company, not this branch specifically - is many of the promotions & coupons are valid ONLY on HPB.com, and not in-store. For vinyl lovers, HPB.com doesn't possess actual store inventory across the HPB network, but is an online portal of specialty music retailers (with "specialty" prices). You'll find mainly new vinyl, not used, on HPB.com - which renders the promotions irrelevant to me. On a good note - huge kudos to both the Decatur & Marietta stores being dog-friendly as well! read more

This is one of my favorite places to check out vinyls. HBP in general has a large and great selection of books, board games, and music. Hubster and I like to browse the vinyls section because it's always changing. I find the prices are very reasonable compared to other stores. The selection may seem small, but it's definitely adequate and not overwhelming to dig through. 10/10 would repeatedly visit again. read more

The one in Decatur is smaller than the ones I'm used to but it is still very well stocked and the staff are helpful, knowledgeable and eager. So, so many items in this bookstore. I am a reading machine, so these kinds of places are my homes away from home. The sections are clearly labeled. They have something for everyone; video games, puzzles, comic books, the list goes on. It was super clean for a used book store, and the employees seem friendly. Sign up for their email list, they usually have some sort of special going on. I have yet to try selling books here, but the process was explained to me clearly (lightly used books, drop them off on the left hand side of the store, wait in the store while your items are checked, deny or accept the cash offer.) So the name is misleading. They have so much more than books! Of course I read, and the prices are pretty darn good. I hate paying full price for a hardback book. But I really go there for the vinyl LPs! The prices are actually some of the best in town, with an ever changing selection of new and used. I've found some new vinyl literally half the price of eBay and other record store pricing. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. My first experience here today and it was the WORST customer service I've ever endured in any establishment. I was not greeted upon entering even though I was spotted by two employees. As I was checking out, RICARDO had a very poor attitude. He not only didn't offer to bag my books, he didn't even put them in my hand. Just left them there on the table and ushered the next person to proceed to getting checked out. I plan on returning these books that I bought from this establishment and I will NEVER return here again. I've called the customer service hotline and I plan on speaking with the general manager as soon as I can. read more

Sometimes I have to go to chick-fil-a or the dollar tree to remind myself that greetings, when a customer enters a store, do exist. This bookstore is fine. It's clean. It has had some of the books and DVDs that I was looking for. And I've had good customer service once before. But my goodness, there are a few folks that work there that refuse to greet, speak to, or say bye as you exit. It's really wacky. I see you see me. And it's not a social rejection situation, you work here - you're doing your job by speaking to me. I get you're not trying to be my friend. No reason to be aloft. But when I do speak, it's a weird look away. Listen, I'm pretty understanding of the fact that there are tons of people with different social anxieties and difficulties. But there is also something relatively elitist and not culturally competent when you have someone working the front that ignores customers. Like my goodness, it's the holiday season - folks are coming in and potentially spending the little bit of money they have - the least you can do is acknowledge them. read more

What a great experience!! The staff was personable, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly and the customers were book lovers, like myself who were also friendly! They had a great selection n even better prices! The books are well organized as well and they had a cute lil curbside sale with books as low as $2. I mean, good books!! I ended spending about an hour there finding good new reads n left with three books (only two actually turned out to be good though) I loved it! I'll definitely be back! read more

Love that this area has a book store but you are better off going to a diffrent one. First: this store doesnt have management. Today was the fifth time I have seen a customer getting harassed by someone that looked like they just got out the hospital. I was disgusted because the lady was just trying to protect her kids and the employees did nothing. Other than say I don't know where she came from. This has happened constantly over the past few months. If they can't afford security the least you can do is be vigilante of who is coming in to protect your customers. Second the employees don't greet you or even say hello back they just look at you. Third books are usually out of place. When you ask for help they will help and they do find it but it's never where it's suppose to be. We will never be back to this location. read more
