This book store is Amazing! The customer service was great. She's very accommodating! If she doesn't have it, she'll get it.

Omg!!!! I love this bookstore! The staff are amazing and book selection is impeccable!!! This is an ethnic bookstore so you won't find all of the New York Times bestsellers, if they are not written by Black, Hispanic, and possibly Native American authors but I was very excited about being there!!! I just happened to be browsing when I saw a poster advertising Vivica A. Fox's book signing!! I immediately purchased the book got in line and waited!! The wait was not bad and they were very organized!!! I will definitely be back to purchase Michelle Obama's book in September!!! Oh by the way, the bookstore is located inside of Greenbriar Mall near the food court!

    Medu...a gold mine of information

There are only 50-odd black owned bookstores left in America and Medu is one of them. They've been operating out of Greenbriar Mall for the past 23 years and they're hands down my favorite "Mom and Pop" bookstore in the Atlanta area. I've been a customer for years so it's past time for a review. I went there about a month ago for a celebration of two of my favorite things: centenarians and cookbooks. Mother Hughes (an Atlanta icon) was doing a signing of her cookbook and I simply couldn't miss it. She's lived to see 101 years and I'm convinced that her collection of recipes contains the dietary secrets of longevity. In my experience, the more obscure the cookbook the better the recipe gems inside so I had to have a copy. Anyway, Medu seems to specialize in carrying books like hers--titles you can't find anywhere else online or in brick and mortar bookstores. The store owner, Nia, and her sister are extremely knowledgeable about their inventory too. They have books for children and adults on a variety of subjects including: African-American History and Culture Politics and Sociology Biographies and Non-Fiction Spiritual and Holistic Healing Nutrition & Cookbooks (Soul/Vegan/Vegetarian) Natural Hair Care Fiction and Poetry Aside from the books they have an excellent selection of calendars and greeting cards. Literally the best card I've ever received in life came from the shelves of Medu Bookstore. I opened the card, read it and Oprah ugly cried for like 10 minutes. I've already purchased their unique holiday cards in bulk so I can give them to my sisters and friends. I love buying from Amazon and Barnes & Noble as much as the next book lover. That said, I make a concerted effort to support the passion for literature and special interest titles that can only be found at an independent book seller like Medu Bookstore.

Medu Bookstore in Greenbriar Malls stocked with predominately African American literature. They have a decent selection of authors for adults, teens and children. I really appreciate stores like this one because its hard to find a lot of these books at Barnes & Nobel and Borders. Every so often Medu Bookstore hosts events and brings in authors to promote new books. Additionally students, nook clubs and libraries are offered a discount. For details, book lists and bestsellers go to www.medubooksonline.com. Happy reading.

Of course always grabbed a copy of Creative Loafing to check out cool events that I couldn't attend because I was underage and or had no driver's licence. Fast forward a few decades and CL is still one of my favorite sidekick for what is cool, interesting and or off beat for this city of mine. Besides letting you know what's worthy of checking out in this fine city of the south they also have great short fiction written by local talents. We shouldn't be surprised that there are so many talented local writers in this city. After all this is the city of Gone With The Wind and telling stories to each other is as natural as sweet tea and fried okra baby! For the past 10+ years or more my favorite reason to get the CL is the legendary epicurean Cliff Bostock. He was a foodie before most of us were even born! Whether it's Waffle House or some foo foo restaurant where they serve you food the size of a half dollar and then have the nerve to charge you half a Benjamin for it. You can always depend on CB to give you the honest truth in a down to Earth no pretensions manner. BTW if you want to torment yourself check out the 100 dishes to eat article https://creativeloafing.com/content-270683 don't read this when you're hungry as I did..you'll hate yourself. Best the best thing about CL are the classified...funny as hell.....

There are some very talented writers at Creative Loafing, and my hat goes off to them for the remarkable job that they do on a weekly basis. Undoubtedly the best Newspaper that Atlanta has to offer. Not to mention, they are free. Which is nice because I would never pay for something that wastes millions of trees anyways. I can't wait until there is no such thing as a newspaper actually. Our generation no longer needs it, considering we are ushering in the digital information age. Get with the times you small minded journalists, and quit throwing that dumb Buyer Savings newspaper in my driveway that I repeatedly told you to stop giving me.
