The register clearly showed $18.41, yet he gave me $13.41 in change and walked away. When I called him back and showed him the numbers, he initially hesitated and spoke in another language rather than addressing the issue. Only after I showed him the cash that I left on the counter did he reopen the register and give me the $5 he had not returned. Mistakes can happen, but the combination of the horrible attitudes, the way I was treated, and the hesitation to correct the change left me questioning whether I was being treated differently. As a Black customer, that concern is real and cannot be ignored. First impressions matter, especially when someone new to the area is trying to support local businesses.
