5/1/21: Here for a Junior Phenom basketball tournament. The facility is very clean & everything is extremely organized. The cost is $20 for the day or $35 for the weekend. The parking is plentiful & there are many hotels & restaurants nearby. The concession stand wasn't open, so we had to go out for snacks and food, which was not an issue. There are snack and drink machines available & they accept credit cards for your convenience. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I didn't have any issues at all. I was finally able to check out the Sportsplex when my nephew played a Labor Day tournament in 2018. This facility is impressive since it can accommodate a myriad of different sports and is spacious enough to house a lot of people. Coming from Norfolk, the drive is a little long but that's neither here nor there. The Sportsplex is easy to find and there is plenty of parking. Upon entering I was surprised to see the facility came with some TV's, snack machines and a concession stand. In addition, I was more surprised by the size of the facility. I didn't realize it was so big, so when I walked over to Pavilion #1 I was in awe. This place could double for a major training facility, and there was so much seating. What history this gymnasium holds. Boo Williams Sportsplex has generated tourism and tax revenue for the city of Hampton for over 10 years. Annual weekend tournaments are the main attraction. However, I was just informed that the partners who paid for and own the building want to sell it. Being that Hampton makes so much revenue with this location they don't want to lose that annual economic activity. So Hampton will be paying portions off for the next few years until it is owned by the city of Hampton. How unique is that?! Thought I'd share. Okay so I originally attended this location for a birthday event. The event was set up in the media room which also lead outside to grilling space. The lighting in the building were all new and updated. The flooring and walls were all very fresh. Overall great bones this place has. They don't have WiFi here at this location which I did find to be a bit odd but other than that; the venue it's is very large and there's lots of parking! read more

This place is by far the worst. The games are fixed and the referees are just there to decorate the court. They don't call anything if your not from the "home team". The people in the stands literally have to tell them what calls to make which is sad. The weekend pass is $45 and the condition of the place is dark and dirty. The majority of the food served is fried with no healthy options. If my kid is playing a sport and has a break between games why would I want to feed him fried food? They need to provide other options for the athletes. I would not recommend booking tournaments here at all. read more

In many years of attending my daughters AAU basketball tournaments all over the United States I have never seen such terrible facility and tournament management in my life. Starting with the pickiest registration process I have ever seen (they were asking for the girls state issued ID's, ummm they are 13. When we said we didn't have them, the lady said that the military issued ID's for 13 year olds. Welp, we are from KY, and none of our parents are in the military) All of our girls had their AAU cards, birth certificates, and school report cards) The refs clearly picked which calls they were going to make while ignoring others, at one point our player was punched 4 times in front of a ref who called nothing. 3 seconds in the paint doesn't exist here. "Security" searched all players and parent bags for contraband protein bars and for gods sake you better make sure your coaches are wearing collared shirts and khaki pants or they won't be allowed on the court. First and last time we will attend a tournament here and you better believe this review will make the twitter rounds. read more

Disorganized place of business. Should just shut down until Covid is over if they continue to mismanage the place. Making people wait outside in the cold without even seeing if the place is full is just rude! read more

My son went to an overpriced basketball camp here last summer. He also played AAU here last year. Most tournaments were $10-$20 admission and were one and done events. I'm here now to watch a friend's child play a middle school game. Parking is horrible. This will be the last time I come here. read more

This place is ridiculous! I have been coming to this facility for the last two years for my son's track meets. It's outrageous having to pay $6-8 in theory to watch my son run one race that takes less then 6 seconds! Also the fact that they will not allow the athlete to bring in their own healthy snacks is crazy! They don't even sell the things I want my son to have! Most of their food is fried and unhealthy! The customer service is often times pretty bad. For example, last weekend an older lady at the snack bar would not give me or let me pay for a bigger paper bowl! The one they were trying to serve my chicken strips in was a half the size of the chicken and it was fall out of the tiny container they gave it to me in! The lady was rude and insincere. I will never buy another thing from their facility again! read more

This place routinely takes advantage of the fact that you will pay to see your child play ball. I have paid up to $11 for one game at this facility. It's really shameful and greedy on their part. We will be asking our coach not to play there anymore. Facilities are average, bathrooms seem to have problems all the time. read more

2/27 (Saturday) during MIT - parents were waiting outside for so long under cold weather & it was our child's 2nd game @ 8:30pm (that was supposedly 7:15 almost 1hr behind) & we missed the first few minutes of our child's game because the staff said it hasn't started yet until other parents were complaining already to check the status of the ongoing game if they're done already because it was already time of all of our children's game. Disorganized. Whats the sense of waiting outside if all of the parents are congested on the line already & when we get in its the same, no social distancing anymore. Why dont just let us all in as long as no one is sick since that there is a temperature check upon entry. read more

It's a large facility, they have a summer basketball program for children. The coaches are high schoolers compared to Virginia Wesleyan, that has college players as coaches. The issue here is discipline, they need to ensure the children who attend follow their rules, no fighting or cursing better yet the parents understand these rules. read more

Great facility for the area. I'm sure the city enjoys this staple from the legendary Boo Williams. Attended the Nike EYBL Session and was awed by this place. The facility was clean. Courts and spectator areas has more than enough space. Staff were all helpful and nice. More parking is needed but it doesn't take away from the Sportsflex. read more

Came here for a meeting, which accommodated our needs well. Large, high ceilings. Mounted projectors for presentations. Lots of windows. Ample parking. I understand the BWS also opens its doors early each morning to accommodate upwards of 200 walkers! Many of the local schools hold their events at the BWS as well -- track, volleyball, gymnastics, etc. Easy access off the highway, too. read more

Boo Williams is the Premiere venue for Basketball in VA and is nationally recognized all over the country. If you have a child that plays at the AAU level and or runs Track you know about this complex! read more

I have been a walker at the Sportsplex for years. The man who runs the place is great and very friendly. The maintenance staff is very nice and friendly. However the women who answer the phone are rude and give very sarcastic and mean spirited answers to any nice inquiries. For example when asked when the contractors might finish the renovation of the track she responds whenever they leave. For example when asked if the bigger gym is open for walkers she responds I do not know what you mean by big gym. It is obvious which gym is bigger because it is twice as big as the smaller gym. People like these women do not need to be working where they have to interact with the public. They are not nice for no reason and make coming to the facility uncomfortable. I would recommend that the man who runs the place replace these women with people who know how to talk to people. read more

Generally an unpleasant group of people to deal with. Locals aren't treated with respect or professionally by security, ticket sellers, consessions or anyone I've dealt with on staff has been uninformed about events and unpleasant. You can't be mean AND uninformed! read more

As the only indoor track facility in the area, they don't need to cater to fans of the events. There is no area for spectators to view the pole vault, triple jump or high jump events because The facility under utilizes the infield. Christopher Newport university provides a great example of how to use the infield. They put bleachers in the infield that enable spectators to more closely see all of the events. Rest assured, they still charge you to not see all the events. Lastly, the food choices for athletes is poor and they don't allow outside food or drink. The staff even takes the time to check athletes gym bags to ensure the don't bring any sustenance. read more

This is a nice complex, needs a new staff, they are rude and unprofessional. The staff have now taken to violating our kids upon entry to events at the complex. Specifically, doing "pat-down" searches in an attempt to find food the kids need while in the complex 6-8+ hours. Also having adult male staff tearing through young teen girls clothes, including personal female items, and doing this one kid after another, exposing all of them to who knows what, that they picked up in an earlier bag. Doing this is an extremely rude manner, bordering on violent, this complex has become something far less than it was intended. I understand the complex is trying to increase profits from their concession, but kids, particularly runners, have specific foods they eat on race day. Eating unfamiliar food ensures reduced performance and possibly worse, it ends up on the track. Forget that the variety of food offered is limited to either typical "greasy spoon" type fair, burgers, fried chicken strips, etc., or a fruit/fruit cup, none of which will adequately fuel a seriously competitive runner who is stuck in the complex for 6-8+ hours, often coming directly from school without having had lunch. All of which is ridiculously overpriced for what you get, while charging parents $5/6 each to watch their kids compete. I thought the purpose of the complex was to support the youth, not batter and force them to spend an hour or more waiting in line for bag/body searches for food to get into their event? I for one am seriously considering not allowing my kids to participate in events at Boo Williams, it has gotten that bad. I would recommend the VHSL start considering other venues at least for indoor track, there are other options. read more

The air wasn't working on the gym side courts 5-8 went and asked the facility "director" about what could be done about it, she stated that she adjusted it. Unfortunately, her adjustment of the ac and her customer service approach wasn't working. After asking her about different options (fans, opening the doors) she stated they don't have any and opening doors was a safety issue. I responded that the heat on that side of the gym was also a safety issue and did she or the facility have a contingency plan. I asked her who her supervisor was so that I could speak with him/her she said let me get you a card. She left me standing there for over 5 minutes as I waited. Eventually she returned to the ticket office, I asked her for her card again, she responded "I'll find you." Never saw her again. As much money that they charge and make, their customer service definitely needs some tweaking. If @LavonMarrow cannot provide better customer service then please Mr. @BooWilliams and the @CityofHampton find someone who can. read more

My brother played basketball over there and they ARE NOT FAIR.. They have won all 3 of there games and lost one, but the team they had played lost 3 and won only 1.. That is completely UNFAIR! They worked really hard for this and can't even go to the championship? They cheated them really bad.. They even had the daughter of the coach doing they score and added 4 extra points! They need to have some employees doing the score not the daughters of coaches.. If I had a choice I would give them 0 stars.. read more
