Well, another great race another great venue. Of course he jumped the start. We all know that that's not pretend.. But beside that Richmond international Raceway stuck in a little bitty neighborhood somewhere here in Richmond, Virginia . Great place loved it. First time was here.

I came this weekend to see the nascar race and it was a good one! I haven't been to this particular track in awhile and this is my list of what I liked and disliked. Likes: the staff they hired for all areas of customer service from gate help to helping me on go carts getting from one area to another, vendors, everyone was more than helpful and kind to us. I also liked that all the seats seemed to be good for watching the race. You were kinda able to walk fence down by cars during the race as long as you didn't linger which not a lot of tracks do. The restrooms were very clean. Overall a pretty good experience. Dislikes: No fireworks for the winner of the race!! Prob not Richmond it may be nascars doing but not having the fireworks for the win made it feel kinda weird lol. Camping situation was kinda chaotic. We came with tent which doesn't need water or electric but no spots were available. No one close to track even at closed business had parking or spot we could pay to pop tent up for 2 days. We ended up having to stay kings dominion KOA 24 min away. We normally pay week rates even if we only come for 2-4 days so moneys not an issue just wish there were more options for camping. We really did have great time. We were able to park in handicap area and get to our gate close by.

Fun place to see a race. But, here are some pro-tips: - DO pay for premium parking; I did and was lucky enough to be parked 2 rows back from the exit. The only thing bad about this experience is I was led in a loop trying to park. Directed to take a right by like 5 different people and the very last one told me to go back out to the main road and down two gates. Which.... Was not correct. I was in the right place and I know that because I was directed back around by the same 5 folks who directed me in the first time. - DO go with friends. I went by myself bc none of my friends like NASCAR. When folks come to races it's an all day thing, so of course by race time they're RIPPED. Some drunk man came up behind me and put his hands on my head. He realized I wasn't who he thought I was but nonetheless splayed his legs over into my row, left foot touching my thigh. Thankfully security and the numerous local cops patrolling the place saved the day a half hour later when he tried to fight someone else. - MAYBE pay for the fan experience. If you do DO NOT just go stand around in the driver intros area for an hour until they come out like I did. I walked the garage, saw no cars (this was an hour before intros), not much else to do so I stood outside the stage for an hour until they came out... come to find out you can meet them. But who would've known? I didn't see any agenda posted or arrows directing you on where to go or what was going on. - DO NOT get a front row aisle seat. You will spend the entire entire race dealing with people coming and going up the stairs in front of you. You'll be distracted by people walking the path in front of the stands. You'll constantly have to shift your weight so people can cut in front of you to walk on the seats back up to their rows. Overall this place is ok. The food is standard. The bathrooms are as clean as expected. The crowds are lively (and sometimes a little TOO friendly). Also if you're going to an early April race BRING A SWEATSHIRT. It is COLD.

I'm all for new experiences beyond my typical routines. But visiting the Richmond Raceway for a NASCAR race seemingly was too large of a stretch to be enjoyable. I think I can safely say I won't return. I spent $38 on a "party deck" ticket. Other friends had purchased the same, but I arrived separately from them and we ended up never connecting during the race. Another group I knew had free Grandstand tickets, which ended up being a night saver for me. So, let's start at the beginning. Three of us arrived and walked up to the Raceway. My ticket was at Will Call because you have to be 21 or older to enter the party deck. Unfortunately, they didn't have a section designated for people who had already purchased tickets, so I had to queue behind large groups buying tickets. When I made it to the front, I handed the man my ID (New Jersey license) and he demanded my confirmation number. I pulled it up on my phone, rattled it off, and took my ID back/put it in my purse. He then demanded my ID again, and I told him he had just been holding it for a long time. His nasty and aggressive response was, "What? Do you have a problem with me seeing your ID? You have to be over 21!" I assumed he had some sort of power to not let me in at that point. Otherwise, I would have screamed back at him, because that was beyond uncalled for and blatantly ageist. I'm in my late 20's with a valid ID that I had already happily showed him unprompted. I shouldn't have to justify my entrance to a sporting event to that degree. Once my ticket was finally in hand, I made my way over to security. The others had already walked in, so I was on my own. I had a larger purse and I was holding stuff for others, including one of those retro wooden back scratchers that we had gotten for free at a previous event. Welp, security determined the back scratchers could be considered weapons, and they held me there for quite a while. I offered to just throw them out, but they were ~very concerned~, which was exceptionally annoying. Eventually, the back scratchers were deemed safe, because, duh...and then they let me in. Once I made my way inside, I had absolutely no clue which way to go. I walked halfway across the WRONG way before finding staff who (nicely, finally!) told me to turn around. When I reached the party deck, I had to show my ID yet again and got a wristband. I then walked up to the bar where the overwhelmed bartender skipped over me several times until I waved my hands at her. She was v. upset that I had a credit card rather than cash because their cc machine sucked, but she also wouldn't tell me if there was an ATM on site. I then couldn't find the friends I was supposed to meet and one of the other patrons pushed me out of the way so he could snap some photos, so I was at my very wit's end by that point. The others told me they had plenty of room in the Grandstand, so I made my way over there and sat with them instead, which I guess is fine but I heard that the party deck had specials and what not. Too bad I didn't feel at all welcome there. As for the actual race, I didn't know to bring earplugs and it was crazy loud. If they were selling earplugs, I certainly didn't see any signage. It was cool to see drivers lap around so fast, and the actual track is in great shape, but after a while it got old and we left early. This is one situation where trying something new just simply won't result in an encore for me. But the main point of my review is that the staff need to realize how much of an impact they make. Treating someone who paid $38 for an event like a lesser human because she looks young should never be considered okay.

An awesome sports venue. An example of what Richmond can do when it has a nice venue in the area (please build a new arena). Chaos corner is the place to be.

Four wide salute outlaw sprint cars style!!!! Very cool!

This is a great facility, and I really enjoy their night races. Unfortunately, NASCAR has some work to do to make these events more competitive and more exciting to watch. There isn't much the Speedway can do about that, but if you want to check out a good NASCAR race this is a pretty good venue. The Martinsville Virginia track will give you a better more competitive race with more action as the cars try to out break each other in the tight turns, but this is still a pretty good venue.

    Yeah!

Nothing like a sporting event on a gorgeous day with friends, beer, and great weather. Add in the smell of burnt rubber, interesting outfits, lots of southern accents, and sounds of engines screaming and you get yourself a NASCAR event. This was one of the more interesting sporting events I've attended and more fun than I imagined. Seeing the Sprint Cup race in person beats watching on tv especially seeing the pit crews go to work (where else can they change four tires, add engine chemicals, and update driver equipment in under 30 seconds). The raceway are all bleacher seats and its BYOB. You can also purchase scanners where you can listen to the drivers and crews communicate but I'm not shelling $60 for that. You won't be watching the race the whole time (with 400 laps, who does that). You'll mostly be conversing with others, drinking tons of cheap beer (or lemonade), eating fried foods to soak up the beer, and people watching. People watching was my favorite; you'll see a lot of interesting outfits and personalities at these events. Most interesting was seeing a guy dressed in a wheaties box outfit to a young guy wearing a confederate flag bodysuit (did not approve but that's me) and seeing a young woman wearing Jimmie Johnson short shorts. Did I mention lots of rednecks? Not that there's anything wrong with that. So if you're down with those you'll love these events here. I'd see another racing event here or somewhere else. Oh yeah, Carl Edwards won the race. And apparently the majority of the fans hate Kyle Busch. With a last name like that, I'm not surprised!

    April 2016 Southern Women's Show

April 15 - 17, 2016 This is our third year ( GF & I ) attending the Southern Women's Show within the Richmond Raceway Complex adjacent to RIR. huge, Huge, HUGE shopping, education, eating event and did I mention FUN! You can't not be happy sharing the day exploring so many vendors. Lori saved by getting advance tickets at Walgreens but you could also get tickets online, so add the below address to your 2017 calendar so you can get advance tickets AND coupons for many of the 200-plus vendors. Now many ladies rush the Dillard's makeup station and get beautified but Lori and I have our own strategy. Lori spots the $5 cash bar and gets a bloody mary while I head to Heaven's Gate Gourmet Coffee and get a dark roast. YUM. These ladies from Stafford, VA are so sweet. I also purchased a bag of ground Cinnamon Sweet Potato Swirl. You can get some too, at HeavensGatecatering.com. Wear comfortable shoes because we must have walked 5 acres going up and down the aisles - there is just so much to see and experience. From Clothes, containers and kitchen items to Soaps, Scents, and Sweets...Ending at Perfectly Posh with Terri Berry. She is so fun and full of energy and laughter. See AreYouPoshed.com for the fun lineup of pampering products that I love. We closed the day at O'Charlies with a Southern Peach Margarita. Cheers.

September's race was the first I had been to since the revamp and name change from RIR to Richmond Raceway. Upon arrival I was disappointed that the accessible parking had been moved further away from the track. The live music before the race was a very nice touch. The vendors were the same as before. The Solar Fangrounds are nice with a great view of driver introductions. The pre race festivities were nice with two flyovers. I am giving three stars due to the change in parking.

View from our seats, not a bad seat in the house!

Came here 11 years ago for my first NASCAR race and came back this past weekend with my husband and friends for their first RIR experience. The track and excitement has not changed, loved every minute of this event. Everyone was especially nice, from the other fans to the event people. Such a magical experience for this race fan, will definitely be back!

Talk about comfort...this time around was so much more rewarding. The first year I attended in 2016...it was at least 100 degrees...no shade in sight basically. But there were oscillating fans blowing mist throughout the crowd. But it's a large open field on a hill full of Redskins Fans...but the heat OMG!! There are areas for children to play as well. This year wasn't as packed as the year 2016, but the energy was still present. Well fast forward to this year...air conditioned tent with tables and chairs...free snacks including chips, water, soda and a voucher to use at Papa John's (tent on site). So to get all this... I won a contest Papa John's hosted on FaceBook - so yeah, go like their page now!! We also were warranted an up close and personal view of the coaching staff and the players. We were positioned away from the main crowd. An unforgettable experience that I am so looking forward too next year. Not sure if it will be held here next year, I believe the team is looking at other locations to host the camp. We drove up from Chesapeake...about a 90 minute drive well worth your time especially if you're a fan of the Redskins. We parked in a parking lot ($10 or $20) about a half a mile away from the training facility. Remember to stay hydrated and bring money for parking and snacking. Bring a lawn chair too and perhaps memorabilia and a sharpie to obtain signatures. Small coolers are allowed as well. But if you forget your memorabilia or want something new/else there is a store on site that includes all types of items from pens to jerseys. FREE to attend - FREE to take pictures - Porta Potty rentals (unisex) are present as well as mini sinks to wash your hands. Have fun and enjoy life! HTTR!!
