As soon as you walk in, you'll feel the warmth and community energy of a Dublin pub: chatter, laughter, and the comforting clink of glasses create an inviting atmosphere that's lively but never overwhelming. My party of four made a reservation for a Monday night at 7pm, and I'm glad we did - the restaurant was almost full, and by around 8:30pm, it was absolutely packed! We were immediately led to our reserved table, which you can book through their website. The menu includes plenty of options for everyone, including fried appetizers, salads, traditional Irish fare, and lots of sides. They don't have an actual drink menu, but our server was more than happy to walk us through what they had on tap; my dad and brother enjoyed a pint of Guinness and a local Irish lager, respectively. In terms of dishes, two members of my party weren't hungry, so they split an order of the Wrights of Marino Smoked Salmon (€12.95) and the Traditional Beef & Guinness Stew (€16.95). The smoked salmon dish was quite a good deal for only €13 - it was a sizable portion of thin slices of lox paired with capers, a tangy horseradish cream, a fresh vegetable salad that wasn't overly dressed (as pub salads often are), and a thick slab of their signature Guinness Brown Bread (more on this later). The Beef & Guinness Stew was a thick, hearty bowl of stewed Irish beef, root vegetables, and a savory broth with a touch of that distinct malty flavor of Guinness. It was delicious on its own, but elevated when paired with the bread (though my brother may have been onto something with using it as a dip for his chips). Another member of my party ordered their Traditional Fish & Chips (€19.95), which was a large piece of battered cod served with a heaping pile of thick-cut chips (fries), a mixed leaf salad, pea puree, and a creamy tartar sauce. The fish was beautifully flaky and moist in the interior, with the crispy batter on the outside lending a lovely crunch without being overly oily. The chips were truly the best we've had in Ireland, with a delectable crisp exterior and a creamy, almost mashed-potato-like inside; perfect with the briny richness of the tartar sauce. We weren't huge fans of the pea puree (we've had better at other pubs), which was a bit bland, though it was a good palate cleanser for the dish. I chose the Traditional Irish Lamb Stew (€18.95), which was another large bowl of filling stew. This broth was a bit thinner than the Beef & Guinness Stew, and had complex flavors of herbs and the root vegetables. The portion of lamb wasn't huge, but the meat was of good quality: it was tender and not overly gamey, simmered to a pull-apart texture. I also ordered a large portion of their Guinness Brown Bread (€5.50) to share with the rest of the table; while I'd normally balk at paying almost €6 for 3 slices of bread, this is award-winning brown bread; thick slabs of oaty, malty bread with a touch of sweetness, lovely when slathered with creamy Irish butter. I do wish that the bread had been served hot, but that was easily fixed when dipped in the steaming stew. Lastly, we ordered the Apple Tart (€8.50) and Bread & Butter Pudding (€8.50) for dessert; the former was decent, with spiced apples in a flaky pastry, topped with vanilla ice cream and almonds, but the real star was the Bread & Butter Pudding: pillowy soft bread soaked in a rich yet not overly-sweet custard, strewn with cinnamon and raisins. A decadent way to end our meal! We truly enjoyed our time at the Celt - it's the sort of place where locals and visitors mingle easily, whether you're there for hearty pub fare, a pint, or live music. It's fairly priced for its central location and generous portions, and a stellar choice for casual meals, drinks with friends, or an authentic Irish pub night!

Breakfast had great crispy bacon, well fried hashbrown and black pudding, and nice sunny side up eggs. But wish thete had been an extra banger and a white pudding. Still, overall taste is quite nice.

The authentic Victorian setting, the Victorian mahogany fittings, the mosaic marble tiled floors and granite tabletops, the mahogany bar, capped with red Connemara marble, follows the classic Victorian architectural pattern. The staff are helpful, friendly and patient since their accent is hard to understand sometime. My 1st beer and 1st Irish food, all I can say is what a meal, just simple delish. Being here is just a wondrous experience, the place is cosy, warm and the friendly of the people. So glad I picked this place as my first of Dublin.

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

The welcome here was friendly and the pub cosy. They had a food menu but we didn't dine. I'm afraid when it comes to alcohol in Ireland and particularly Dublin we are robbed blind by the taxman (government) with minimum pricing. So the Irish government rob us blind and criticise the hospitality industry for ripping us off then the hospitality industry do likewise while criticising the government for robbing us blind. As for wine; the duty on it is €3.20 a bottle, and double that for sparkling wine. That is before VAT at 23% is added on to the final price. This effectively means the government puts a tax on a tax. It also means that before you look at any other costs, the price of any bottle of wine is at least €4. They also have minimum pricing, so a standard bottle of wine with 12% abv will cost you at least €7.40 so when a glass of plonk runs you 11 euro for 50cl of the cheaper stuff you know why - you are being doubly ripped off. It will all end in tears only a matter of when.

Having booked dinner for 11 people well in advance of our visit, I arrived at 7.04pm on 21st March to find the tables were occupied by a large group of people with their meal in progress. The waitress did not seem surprised, and left quickly to see what could be done. Another waitress came along a few minutes later, advising that they were setting up another area. The manager then arrived and apologised, confirming it was totally their fault and a table would be ready soon. We were then led to two tables that would normally seat 4 on each table. 11 settings were squashed together and when we asked for another little table for more space, a small round table at a lower level arrived, which I refused (it was inserted between the two rectangular tables and did not solve the problem). I pointed to another suitable small table but that was refused, and a few minutes later, while not marked as reserved, it was given to other diners. The head waitress was unfriendly and made no effort to make up for the complete-let down with Fagans ignoring the booking I had carefully planned for my 60th birthday. When I wasn't ready to order wine as I was still upset with our table arrangement, she did not return to follow through on looking after us. The white haired manager was even worse, as he visited the other diners in that area and did not check in on us once in the whole evening to see that the rearrangements were satisfactory. We weren't offered the option of dessert and were not granted as much as one complimentary drink to compensate for ruining my night. Having been a local in Drumcondra for years before I moved to the UK, and my family still living there, I chose Fagans to support local business. The staff who death with my booking seemed very accommodating so I trusted I had made a good choice.
