A comfy little coffee joint with good food as well ..pretty quiet and I saw several people working. I sat indoors since it was rainy and cold but the outdoor seating looked really nice and could definitely be a place you spend hours at with a book and a cuppa. Fido's seems to turn off the wi-fi instead of just insisting during certain hours to keep the "meter" running if you are going to keep a seat. I am one of those guys who will camp in a seat for 2 hours to work and enjoy coffee. However, I don't do this during "rush" hours or when a business request in the "sign on screen" to not keep a table if tables are needed. Just what we needed! After a rough Friday night in Nashville we needed a good meal and a good strong cup of coffee. We walked in and the first thing I noticed was the long line in a small space which made me think "we came to the right place!" With the time standing in line we had plenty of time to look over the menu, everything sounded so delicious but I finally decided on the southwestern breakfast burrito (Cant' remember the actual name of it) When it came out it was huge!! I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to finish but I was a champ and powered through it with no problem as it was the most delicious thing I put in my mouth that morning. For some reason I thought I needed a coffee that morning, even though I'm not a big coffee drinker. I just ordered it black and it was the strongest coffee that I have ever had......still didn't do much for my hangover The staff was super friendly and the clientele was pretty much what you would expect of a coffee shop. With 2 rooms there was plenty of seating inside, I just wish that it would have been about 10 degrees warmer so we could have sat outside in the sun. I don't know that I would go back on my next Nashville visit as I'm all for trying new places but if I lived in the area I would definitely become a weekend regular read more

I went here during a week day and the place was packed with people working, studying and eating at each table. I was able to grab a corner table to work at. Problem is not enough plug ins for your computer. I eventually had to switch tables with a guy who was reading so I could get some electricity for my computer. I love getting coffee here, and sometimes tea depending on the day, but the place does get crowded. I can't say I blame the Belmont students that frequent it, I probably would have lived there during my college days had I attended here. I do enjoy sitting outside of this place to people watch the groups coming in and out. With all the people it's a chore that could go on for hours if I let it. I do tend to watch the baristas work, even when they're too busy to get me at the moment. They're always nice. I think the prices are very fair considering how great they are, the Bongo beans are always roasted perfectly and you can tell in their coffee. Not tourist friendly! We wanted the best of both world so we got bagels from proper bagels and wanted to get coffee at Bongo Java and eat our bagels there. We started eating our bagels while waiting for our coffees and one of the waiters came to our table and started yelling at us that no outside food was aloud. Told us he would get us to go cups because we couldn't eat there. We wanted your coffee not your food , we spent money in your store so what's the problem. Completely ruined our mornings. Stopped by here to grab a coffee and check my email after being in Nash-Vegas for work for the day. Pulled it up using Yelp mobile, which was very good, and got here and was not disappointed. One of my new favorite spots! This place has a really cool atmosphere and seems to attract really friendly people. We sat outside on a perfect Fall day and enjoyed lunch and some coffee (obviously). I had a great cappuccino made with almond milk along with a bagel sandwich. Everything tasted fresh and my coffee was made perfectly! A quaint, hidden gem that native Nashvillans love, Bongo Java and Fido has luscious coffees and a delectable menu. My favorite (and very simply) menu item is the Bowl o' Hummus, as it is flavorful, simple, and blends beautifully with a light roast on their patio on a breezy spring day. This place used to be my favorite spot in Nashville. But they sold out. The owners renovated the building, made it nonsmoking, and increased the prices. If I wanted to go to an overpriced, pretentious coffeshop I'd go to Barista Parlor or Fido. Bongo Java Belmont was great because it had character, everyone was welcome. I understand that they felt the students/smokers might be deterring other customers from coming in and thus altered it to make those other customers feel more welcome. But they ousted a lot of regulars with this change. The food is still great. The coffee is the same as before.They have great fall special drinks. One of my favorite places to hang out on the patio, however, the coffee is pretty average at best. Not the best coffee in Nashville by any means. Also, the muffins are pretty bad. I've given them a chance a couple times, each time hoping for the best, but always ending up dry & old tasting. The employees aren't rude, but aren't really friendly either. They just kind of do their job & get on with it. I'm fine with that. I do love coming there in the mornings however to just have a small coffee, sit on the patio, & just relax. There is plenty of seating, inside & out. If you want a relaxing hang with average coffee to just wake you up, I definitely recommend this place. I was really disappointed with this coffee shop. I ordered a Cortado with alternative milk, and asked for it to be done at a cooler temperature. When I got my drink, it wasn't the milk I had asked for. Which was OK, the barista remade it. When I got it, I held the cup and could already tell it was way too hot. When I tasted it, the milk tasted burnt and the espresso was super bitter. I went to Belmont, so I naturally hit up Bongo at least once a week. First and foremost, I'd say go with a friend who knows the drill the first time you go. There's no prices on anything, no real waiting area for your coffee, and you WILL get stared at if you're dressed like a joe shmoe and not like an Urban Outfitters model. CONS: -Grumpy baristas. Sometimes they're OK but I honestly can't blame them...They're in their 30's, being professional baristas, when all of these bratty college kids with overhyped dreams and way too much cash come in and just piss them off. Just try to be nice and say "Thank You," though they may ignore it. -Small ordering/waiting area. Just put on your mean mug, lean up against a wall, and hope no one takes your McBowl. -Smoky patio. I actually don't sit inside either, but the sheer amount of smoke coming from the assholes who stared you down in the first place just puts the foam on the latte. -Zero parking for visitors (unlike Belmont's visitor policy...mehheheh) PROS: -Fair Trade. And it's not a sham. I went on a trip with Belmont and Fido/Bongo's head barista to Guatemala to check out one of their fair trade coffee plots. The area was still impoverished by American standards, but it was by no means a plantation. Each farmer owned their certain amount of trees and they even let us pick coffee berries with them to see how it's done. Super awesome, and the reason I always buy a bag of Guatemalan. -Convienient -Reliable -REALLY good coffee when it's slow. Kind of meh when there's a huge line. I've really never ordered the food because I'm scared my bill will be $20 for a coffee and some eggs, so I can't speak to that. The service had been below my expectations, I'm constantly having to remind barista/workers that I'm still waiting on coffee or a bagel. Practically every time they "lose" my ticket. Also, barista doesn't even apologize when I told her I haven't gotten my full order after 15 mins of waiting. Instead, she acts like it's a huge inconvenience to HER. Every time I go I tip because the initial service is great but after that it's all downhill. But I guess that's all these guys care about anyway.
