Had no idea this place was just right around the corner and with great reviews!!! Such a sweet Japanese duo running the place and making really good Yakisoba. My husband and I ordered 2 lunch specials and they were exactly what we needed. There's only 2 of them at the shop so please be patient! Call in your order if needed. For convenience and cravings, I wouldn't for sure return for more!

This isn't my first pick for Asian food, but Bong Teriyaki does an alright job. It's located extremely close to me, which is why I found myself trying it out a little bit ago. The prices are pretty fair, though I wish everything cost a dollar or two less. From my experience, this place is a little slow with takeout orders. I ordered 2 two choice combos plates (chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu & chicken teriyaki and beef teriyaki) when I was the only customer in the place and waited for probably 20-25 minutes. The chicken was pretty mediocre. It was chewy and tasted a little overcooked. I'd give it a 2 out of 5. My boyfriend's chicken katsu was also overcooked and dried out. So why the 3 out of 5 stars? The beef teriyaki I had redeemed this place. It reminded me of authentic Korean BBQ beef. It was tender and nicely soaked up their teriyaki sauce. My recommendation? Skip the chicken, order the beef!

Fast Japanese food at a very reasonable price. Food is good but nothing out of this world. If you are a broke college student like me I'd recommend the $5 chicken bowl. (It's a hefty portion)

    Veggie tempura is so delicious

Eek. Not fresh and not very flavorful. Most likely won't be back. Would rather just go to Mashita in NW.

The warm and welcoming vibe carries through the whole experience and with plenty of seating you can actually sit back, relax and enjoy every bite without feeling rushed. Now, the food! Let's start with the Vietnamese Coffee with Ube, it is stunning. The rich, bold coffee paired with the creamy, subtly sweet ube is like nothing else. It's the kind of drink you look forward to. The shrimp and egg comfort bowl is exactly what it sounds like, pure comfort in a bowl. Every bite felt warm, satisfying and deeply flavorful. It's the kind of dish that just hits different and leaves you wanting more. And the chicken sando dipper? Don't even get me started. The chicken had the most perfect crisp and that golden crunch you can hear before you even take a bite. Paired with that delicious and savory gravy for dipping. It's next-level good. The kind of dish you immediately want to tell all your friends about. An An is hands down one of the most delicious spots around. The flavors, the creativity and the execution. All of it is on point. It wasn't too busy, and we had a big party; really appreciated that they gave the celebrants complimentary desserts, which was a nice touch. The pandan rice cake with ube ice cream was a my favorite. We called earlier and they got reservations available to be made. The pho was perfect for the chilly weather. The broth was strong and flavorful, and the chicken was cooked well. My friend got the noodles with crispy chicken and mushrooms, and those were phenomenal. The Vietnamese platter would honestly make a perfect date-night meal. This has great variety and fun to share. The fries and wings were flavorful appetizers and a great way to start the meal. Service was great overall, but a bit hands-off after the food was served. I don't remember anyone checking back in on us. Nothing was wrong with the food, but it would've been nice to have that quick follow-up. Would definitely come back, especially to check out their brunch next time.

Other than the AC not working properly I enjoyed my experience here at the restaurant. My wife and I had just moved here from Reno, NV which is renowned for its all you can sushi restaurants but we were craving some sushi and thankfully it's just a short walk away from our new place. We got a total of 1 appetizer (takoyaki) three rolls and two pieces of nigiri and were worried we were not going to be full after that food. Usually we always get more at an all you can eat restaurant (6-7 rolls, some nigiri, apps and desserts) but thankfully we were full after the rolls. The server was quite nice and welcomed us to the neighborhood and gave us some poki sticks to boot! The overall experience was delightful with my only complaint that it definitely needs to have some better cooling in the restaurant, my wife was "glowing" all over the seats. Even though I realize it's not usually the restaurants fault I do believe that landlords should provide enough comfort for both their tenants and the customers in the restaurant. Would be five stars but my ranking usually follows 4-5 stars for the food, a star depending on the service (usually basic timely service unless it was abysmal) and a final star for just the general ambiance of the restaurant. I can't past how hot it was inside there despite Portland being a more temperate climate I believe if the place doesn't cool down effectively it probably doesn't heat as good as well. Don't let that distract you tho, the food was delicious, and the service was timely and impeccable.

The sushi is exceptional across the board, but I came here specifically for their Hwe Dup Bop, and wow--it did not disappoint. The dish is incredibly refreshing, packed with fresh sashimi and crisp veggies, perfectly nutty from the sesame oil, and balanced with that addictive sweet-spicy kick from the chojang sauce. Hands down one of the best Hwe Dup Bop I've ever had. Think bibimbap but a sushi version. I haven't seen any other restaurant in the Portland metro area serving this dish anymore. Truly a hidden gem. The result meant that each roll or piece of nigiri basically crumbled from the moment you handled it. I had hoped I caught them on a bad day, but looking at a few reviews, the lack of rice quality seems to be a recurrent problem. The fish itself was fine, which helped make up for the rice a tiny bit, but from an overall package, it felt like it was only a few steps ahead of grocery store sushi, which is a shame because it costs $20+ a roll. Unfortunately, won't be coming back.

I got the dumplings for her but if I had to skip something I'd do those. They were good but compared to all the other items we had, they were lacking. The only thing not pictured is our wagu braised with sweet potato. That was phenomenal. It pulled apart and melted in your mouth with every bite. We ended with two very different deserts, the strawberry mochi and whipped crem brûlée type desert. Both were tasty. Price range for all plus three alcoholic drinks was $165 not including tip.
