Long story short/first impression: BONEZ garage is a super-quality, A+ establishment. Everyone I encountered there was very friendly and impressively knowledgeable. Instantly I trusted them with my vehicle like I trust my doctor with my body. They feel like more than just professionals. The family vibe was strong. Short story long... I come from a long line of auto enthusiasts. My grandfather was a General Motors man. He drove Bonneville's from the late 50's up until 1973 when he bought an avocado green Buick LeSabre. Some people call those the sad years for American cars but all I have are great memories of being a small kid and falling asleep in the back seat on family road trips. I can still see and feel the warmth of the amber dome light and that floaty couch energy that made every drive feel special. When my favorite uncle got out of the army in the late 70's, he bought a black '79 Camaro Berlinetta with burgundy interior and I count that as the first car I officially fell in love with. We spent many Saturday afternoons washing and detailing his symbol of accomplishment and prosperity and I really learned the value of pride in ownership. By the time the 1980's came around, most people in the family had defected to Japanese imports-which definitely held their own allure-but I never lost my love of classic Americana. When I got to college in the early 90's I was fortunate enough to have my first personal experience with vintage: a 1960 Buick Invicta. I never felt more alive than I did behind the wheel of that car. I've had many wonderful experiences on the road and the most common and essential thread is that I have always had great mechanics to keep me running. I was brought up in the culture of respecting people who work on cars and I have always been in awe of the ones who genuinely love what they do and are really good at it. That's what I get from Bonez. They love what they do. They're fair. They're honest. They look you in the eye. Recently I bought an '84 K5 Chevy Blazer Silverado and I'm SO HAPPY that I've found a place that will help me maintain one of my dream machines. I saw the Bonez 1970 Cadillac hearse driving around several years ago and I always said that someday I'd have a reason to need them. I'm happy that day is here. It has taken me over a year to write this review, and I don't know why but like a fine wine and good cars the work that Bonez did on my car has gotten better with time. Remember one thing when dealing with old cars, Good, Cheap and Fast. You only get to choose two of the three. My car (1967 Mercury Cougar) had the same problems as the majority of older cars, the biggest of which was overheating. It got to the point where I used to drive around with the heater on in the summer time. Finally after tinkering with it for years, I caved in and decided that I didn't have the time that I used to to work on it and needed outside help. I called a couple of other shops, but no one took me as seriously as Bonez. He wanted to see the car in person and came down to the house to visit it where it sat and talk about where the project would go and what I wanted. If I could have given the car to him on that day to start working I would have as I was ready to go. Fast forward to Bonez scheduling a flatbed to come down to the house and the car was off to his shop. I had dropped off a 5.0 at another machine shop that I will not mention here. They did nothing with the block after a year of sitting (I called multiple times). Bonez quickly called the machine shop and volunteered to pick up the block and drop it off to his machinist and the project was off and running. From dropping off the block to a truck full of new suspension and brake parts along with all the other odds and ends that come with a project of this size Bonez was extremely direct and professional. In the middle of the project Bonez actually got into an accident on his motorcycle (hit a deer) and was in the hospital and physical therapy for months. He was able to manage the business from his limited hours at the shop and the project kept up without a glitch. Truly a testament to his awesome passion for his job. Bonez was able to talk me into removing all of the old undercoating which ended up turning out for the best because they found two small rust holes that were patched. He then welded on the subframe connectors and applied all new undercoating so there will be no issues for a long-long time. Throughout the project he not only listened to what I wanted but also was firm with his suggestions when he knew best. When the project started to get the finishing touches not a single detail was overlooked, which I appreciate as I can be a little crazy when it comes to the minutia. It exceeded everything that I could have hoped. I now can get into the car, give it a few pumps of gas and off I go. The car never overheats, the oil pressure is right where it should be and the voltage is perfect (the wiring job was outstanding). The work was so good, I have been contemplating getting another car, just so I can take it to the shop to see the work they can perform on another one. It is also fun getting to watch the progress from far away with the narrated videos that he goes out of his way to produce for each project. YOU will be hard pressed to find a more straight guy than BIG Bill bonez. I have a 1989 ford travel van that two other shops could not fix. After taking my money and still not fixing the problem i found heard of BONEZ garage. True i had to wait to get in but good things come to those who wait. I want to start off saying, I am not from this town. I've went to two shops before Bonez with my car problem and they were the only ones that did not turn a challenge away. I was turned down by one shop and the other shop quoted me a ridiculous price so I can go else where. The second I got on the phone with gentleman, I had a good feeling about the shop. He was very friendly and listen to exactly what was wrong with my car. He even squeezed me in on the same day while other shops didn't want to make an effort to. Anyways I arrived and the mechanic quickly welcomed me in. Very friendly guys! I was amazed by the work these guys were doing when I got into their garage. He even showed me one of his projects in the back when he saw how fascinated I was with their work. This shop is really something else! Anyways the guy took a peek under my car and already knew the life story of my car. It was unbelievable. This guy has some sort of talent with cars. I was in and out of the shop in less than an hour. If it wasn't me talking so much, I could've been out sooner. These guys are great! I was so satisfied with them I had to make sure I tipped them on top of my bill.
