The total was about $729 with no extractions and included the bloodwork, cleaning and post op meds. Total cost was $810. I was very happy with the services and will definitely use them again. I'd had a dog before and knew what kind of commitment they require in time, patience, and money. I felt it was the right time since my job no longer required me to travel very much. I'd seen Chuck Bell (local NBC news weather personality) highlight HRA and featuring select dogs on his broadcast, so it seemed the logical choice. It was one of best decisions I've ever made. After seeing the dogs looking for homes (I wanted to adopt them all!), I saw Rico. He looked like hell and he was a little older than I was hoping for (5 years old) but he caught my eye. He was picked up as a stray and had no chip or identifying tags. He was undernourished and the lower half of his body was missing a lot of hair. The remaining hair had clumps of a black substance mixed in. It was explained to me that he had a horrible case of fleas when he was found, and the black goo was the tar shampoo that was used to heal him. I played with him for a little while and we hit it off. He came home with me that day. I've had him about a year now and I tell people I didn't rescue him - he rescued me. He has enriched my life and been such a joy to have that I can't imagine what I did before he came along. I'm including photos of him from when I first saw him and what he looks like today. It's amazing what a change love, good food, and grooming can accomplish. He doesn't bark a lot, was already housebroken, and loves everyone he meets (dogs and people). I couldn't have ever hoped for a better companion.

I continuously checked for appointments from 9:30 a.m. until noon, but at no point did I see a single appointment become available. I also called your service to confirm that the appointment date or booking procedure had not changed. I was specifically told that I needed to be on the computer at 9:30 a.m., which I was. Given that I followed the instructions exactly and still could not find even one available appointment over the course of more than two hours, I have serious concerns about how these appointments are being allocated. It makes me wonder whether appointments are being released through another method, reserved in advance, or whether certain patients are being filtered or given priority. I would appreciate a clear and transparent explanation of how appointments are released and how clients are expected to have a fair opportunity to book them. The current process does not appear to be working as described, and I would like to understand why.

So, despite just recently switching to District Vet, I've had several cat experiences with them. In short, they are awesome. So convenient being at Eastern Market! I can walk home with kitty sitting in his magnificent, aging Sherpa. And when I left him for his dental, I had breakfast on the way home. They have excellent hours, and their front desk people are super nice. In fact, everyone in the practice is super nice! And speaking of nice, the majority of vets are women! Very cool, in my opinion. And the vets and their techs are also amazing. As noted, we took Grant Mitchell in for his (very late) annual dental. They actually called to ask if I could give Grant his post-surgery meds. I said, "Not unless the meds are liquid," (and that's debatable). Which of course they were pills, a no way. So they dosed him with something else and he's good as new. I really like District Vet. PLEASE NOTE: This review was put in the DV in Brookland when it is for the DV Eastern Market.

A very long time ago, I went to District Vet for a quick need…read more My dog had a tick and because I tend to get squeamish, they were happy help me and my dog out with a quick appointment for tick removal. Since I had a primary vet, there was no need for me to return on a regular basis but they left a good impression. Now, I have an elderly dog with a terminal condition and needed a hospital to visit for a non-critical emergency need. I had taken him to another hospital nearby the week prior, and they suggested I make the decision to put him down over the weekend despite the fact that he's eating, drinking, playing and sleeping as normal. They thought his nasal tumor growth had progressed enough to impact his quality of life. What they didn't catch was that his new, swelling over his eye was actually a huge abscess that then erupted two days after getting an injectable antibiotic. Quite frankly, it was disgusting and caught me way off guard but it also became immediately clear that once ruptured my dog's eye visibility resumed (despite a very messy process to recognize that.) To ensure that there wasn't any additional care needed for the abscess site, I set up an appointment here because I refused to go back to the other hospital. Luckily, from the moment I arrived I picked up on good vibes. The vet tech that I met with first had done a great job reviewing all of the notes and health history files I had sent over prior to the appointment so I pretty much only had to just confirmed the accuracy, Dr. Thomas Landes then came in and he was just wonderful. He was friendly and asked thoughtful questions to better understand the current state of affairs. I was appreciative how communicative he was throughout my dog's exam (commenting positively on things like my dog's strong heartbeat) and they proposed a game plan for next steps. They took him back, further took care of the abscess and gave me some instruction on how to manage the care at home. Honestly, it was just so refreshing to have a positive but realistic doctor that had a great understanding on my dog's life stage and was helpful in ensuring that my dog received care as well as maintains a high quality of life as long as possible. Grateful to have DIstrict Vet nearby should any other non-emergency needs come up in this late stage of my dog's life.

I waited for some time to write this review, because I really wanted to show some grace in what…read morecould have been considered a complicated health issue. But now that I've had a few months to reflect, establish a great relationship with another hospital nearby and consult with my sister (also a vet) I was left feeling so uncomfortable and upset about my experience here this summer. I originally came here because my former vet had begun working here. My dog was diagnosed with nasal cancer earlier in the year and while I was away on a short trip, it appeared as though the tumor looked to have doubled in size just in a matter of days. When I got home, I set up an appointment immediately and was hoping to reconnect with my old vet (who is wonderful.) Unfortunately, although it seemed like he was on the schedule for booking that day, I received a call the morning of the appointment indicating that he was actually out and that I would be seen by another vet. Because the priority for me was that my dog be examined by a medical professional ASAP, I kept the appointment. The tech was very nice and so was the vet, however after a brief exam and being given an antibiotic and steroid (per my sister's suggestion) the vet pretty much told me I needed to make an end of life decision for my dog over the weekend. When I asked if she thought I had enough time to take my dog up to NYC by Wednesday for my sister to also examine him, I was told she couldn't confidently say he'd make it until then. I left with my heart shattered, so confused and conflicted because he was still eating, playing, sleeping well and otherwise behaving "okay" aside from the slow growing mass on his face. As a family, we decided this was not the direction we wanted to go in and I set up an appointment at District Vet at Eastern Market. My dog lived for an additional 5 MONTHS after that appointment. If I were to have just blindly taken her suggestion, I would have missed out on almost half a year of our time together. Additionally, two days later the swelling over his head that appeared rather abruptly ruptured. Turns out it was just an abscess! I'm so confused why this wasn't identified as a possibility considering the rest of the tumor was firm, while the newest inflammation was soft and appeared rapidly within a few days. Thankfully, I was able to have the abcess drained and cared for and my dog was able to enjoy life in the months ahead with palliative care and monthly steroid treatments at District Vet- Eastern Market. I'm so glad I took my dog elsewhere for a follow-up and trusted my gut that it wasn't his time. Now that my dog has passed away, I thought it would be helpful to share my experience in case it could be helpful to anyone else in the future.

I have a 9 month old a puppy I recently re-homed from my sister who was a member and frequented the…read moreMcClean location. Even though that annual membership was purchased on March 7, 2026, the 14th St. location told me that I had to buy a whole new membership because it was non-transferable. The actual patient hasn't changed just the owner, so I'm not sure why I would have to pay for another annual membership when this was just paid for three months ago. I also called the McLean location today and asked if I could bring my puppy in for his monthly flea and tick pill. They told me that they would have it ready for pick up whenever I wanted to come, but I asked if it was possible to pick up from the 14th St. location because it's down the street from my house (about a 30 minute walk). They said yes, so I contacted the 14th St location to make sure they had the medicine in stock and could refill the prescription, and also that they had availability for me to stop by today. She said the medicine was in stock and I could stop by anytime today, so I rearranged my schedule, told my husband to take the car today and walked over with my dog. When I got there, the woman working the front desk told me that I needed some sort of xyz for him to be seen at that location. I had to tell her I had no clue what acronym she kept using and then she proceeded to tell me that because my dog has medical records in Virginia I needed to reestablish new Care for him in DC. I explained that I had called both locations prior to walking 30 minutes to get there, and she just said it was her that I spoke with, so I asked her why she didn't alert me if that prior to telling me to bring him in. She said "Sorry for the inconvenience" but didn't really have an explanation she then proceeded to tell me that I needed to pay in full for a visit/exam with the doctor before they could give me his prescription. Despite the fact it was hugely inconvenient and was going to cost me over $109 just to get his basic prescription that I had already been established and in the system with the same company, just at a different location, I didn't want the trip to be wasted so I asked if he could be seen today. She then told me they were fully booked today, but then told me they had other locations I could check availability with. I asked her "Well, wouldn't I have to pay to establish care with them as well? And wouldn't it be more convenient for me to just take him to McLean to avoid all of these fees and just pick up his prescription?" She was like "Oh ya, that's probably better". In addition to being hugely inconvenient, there was no offer to really rectify the situation. This whole ordeal seems like a hustle when 1. they won't transfer the membership ownership with the dog, AND 2. for every different location I take my dog to in the DMV area I would have to PAY out of pocket to establish new care in that state. Not sure what the point of choosing a company that has multiple locations for convenience if none of the offices share records or can help you when you take your dog to their locations?? Anyway, we walked back home another 30 minutes, and I called the McLean location, only to find out they had never heard of such a policy. This whole experience has been extremely frustrating, so I'll likely find another vet. Worth saying the McClean location was very apologetic and empathetic. The 14th St location acted like everything was out of her hands. And who knows if that's even an actual policy..?
