I would never come here on my own given the price and quality of food. The sushi is just fine. The non-sushi items are good but not incredible. The drinks are fantastic and so is the ambiance, service, and view so that's what you're paying for. And you're paying a lot. But if you're seeking a great sushi experience, do NOT come here. Come here for a social outing with co-workers or friends when you've got some money to burn. Don't get me wrong. The food isn't bad by any stretch of imagination. But you're paying a lot of money so you are (or at least I was) hoping for more. The sauce on the agedashi tofu and shishito peppers were too sweet. The carpaccio was good but not that memorable. I thought the mushroom soup was going to be a lighter broth but it was thick and while good, too heavy. All the sushi was fine but not outstanding. It relies on sauces and other flavors but the fish itself doesn't jump out as anything spectacular. One thing that I did enjoy was the cocktails. Great mixed drinks and that was the highlight but that made the apparent discrepancy of the food being just fine more apparent. Yes you're going to have a fine, if not good meal here. Loud restaurant with poor service and mediocre sushi with top-notch prices and attitude. Who were there as a party of six on a reservation, the server pulled our chopsticks out of the paper envelope, touching them by the food end. He was seen repeatedly through the evening, wiping his nose and mouth with his hands. This is a terrible hygiene violation that should not happen in any restaurant at any level. They were repeatedly touching and rearranging the plates. We were heating off of to make room for food. Very long delays and drink delivery and food delivery. The salads were tasty. The sushi was very slow and delivery and poorly executed, not rolled tightly enough to stay together. This is basic execution that was below par for supermarket, sushi. There was some creativity in the sushi, but not on par with high sushi restaurants. Atmosphere was loud. The room lacked finishes or any sound absorbing materials, so it was Stark and echoey. I've heard amazing things about Bond ST in Noho, and was excited to try them out at their new-ish location in Hudson Yards. Just note that this is on the top level of the shopping mall. So if you visit on a weekend or during the holidays it can be a little tough to get to because of the crowds. I wasn't sure how the vibe would be since we were in mall, but the ambiance was A+++. So swanky and romantic with amazing views of the lit up vessel. We started off with cucumber gin coolers which were smooth and refreshing. They have lots of small plates which are perfect for sharing. Seaweed salad came with the most delicious sesame dressing. Artichoke tempura was so good and had the best dipping sauce. The crispy shrimp roll was just OK and we probably should've just ordered some crispy shrimp standalone. For mains you cannot sleep on the wagyu skirt steak which comes in a hot skillet with sauteed onions, brussels and kimchi. The steak was cooked to medium perfection. Every bite was savored. I also tried some of my husband's sea bass which was buttery and decadent. Prices are high, but just as expected at a swanky restaurant in Hudson yards. Service was top tier. We love love love Bond ST and would choose it as a lunch or dinner or both dining option and here's why: - Easy to reserve a table, we initially made a reservation next door at Estiatorio Milos and decided a day ahead to book Bond ST instead. Thankfully, they seem to want people's money and we were able to get a table for more than two, which is impressive for the city. - A vast array of sushi options, but not too much that you're questioning why it's even on the menu taking up space. The rolls they offer are far from basic/that Whole Foods' vibes i.e. cucumber roll, California roll, so it's definitely hard to choose what not to order! - Service and decor are always so top tier, cups are always filled with water and drink refill requests don't even need to be asked or mentioned. Plus, the view of the Vessel and/or the Sunset? Yesterday, I went with a large group and my baby to this location and it is very modern and sleek. The ambiance is very welcoming and the staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. They helped us store our birthday cakes that we had brought with us with no charge, although they do charge a cake cutting fee of $10 per slice so we didn't eat it at the restaurant but they did help us light the candle and bring it to the table while singing happy birthday which was very thoughtful of them! They made sure our glasses were never empty and checked up on us from time to time! The food was great but unfortunately, not for the price. The portions are very tiny, and they were presented it as shareable. The price range for the appetizers alone were in $30-$40 which would have been fine if the sizes of the apps were just a bit bigger. My favorite dish was the Chilean Sea Bass and the apps with the raw dish were all good. The steak was very tender and delicious! I'd definitely recommend them. Lunch at Bond ST was an unexpected pleasure. The seating was nice with views of the Hudson Yard Courtyard. The kitchen and service was also open to view. I was quite impressed with the sushi. I absolutely loved the spicy tuna crispy rice, the big eye tuna tarts (I would literally come back to NY just to eat this), and the crispy shrimp appetizer. The Hudson Yards Bond ST location was nice overall! There are some obvious strengths, including a beautiful space with amazing views of the Vessel and the Hudson. Bonus points if you can go around sunset. Service was also excellent, with very attentive waitstaff who had helpful recommendations about the menu. In terms of the food itself, there were some fantastic dishes -- the Big Eye Tuna Tarts were a great appetizer, and the Chilean Sea Bass was phenomenal, it was a clear favorite at our table. The rest of the dishes were fine, but nothing to write home about, if I'm being honest. At the price point of this restaurant, I expected a little more consistency with quality and flavors. I have to start this review off mentioning how amazing the service was! As soon as we entered the door, our luggage was taken to coat check for us by a very friendly hostess. Our servers (special shoutout to Sierra) went out of their way to be accommodating and welcoming. We were complimented on our outfits, so I mentioned how we were dressed up because we went engagement ring shopping. 10 minutes later we were gifted 2 glasses of champagne to celebrate. I typically stay away from Asian cuisine as a vegetarian & someone with a shellfish allergy, but BondST does have some good vegetarian options and refreshing cocktails. I thoroughly enjoyed the small plates we tried: Avocado Crispy Rice (my fave), Eggplant Steamed Buns (special-but these need to be permanent), Beet & Goat Cheese Salad (special-so unique and flavorful), Yasai Roll, and Crispy Cauliflower. The desserts are phenomenal and you'd be crazy to skip: the Lava Cake and Bread Pudding are musts. The only reason I take off one star is because our waiter on this particular evening was pleasant but made a few passive aggressive comments (1. When my friend arrived a bit late she said "oh finally" in a slightly rude tone, and 2. She asked for allergies/restrictions and we said shellfish...at the end of offering she suggested the tuna tarte and I said oh no thanks it sounds nice but I'm vegetarian-to which she responded "yeah that's what I tried to ask earlier.") Very loud, located on the 5th floor in the Hudson Yards Mall. Walk in, greeted and directed to table quickly enough, and there was a very loud bar to the side which only got louder as the night progressed through dinner. If you're ok with noise - you'll make it work here. Great view of the Vessel outside at night. Food - I arrived and my fellow diners already had a number of dishes on the table: Fluke Sashimi w/ the watermelon radish, the Yellowtail sashimi with , a little spice to it, were both ok - I've had more interesting preparations but solid here. The scallops with uni, though, excellent preparation, I enjoyed this for the easy way it melted down into your mouth and down the throat in a cool delicious swallow. Spicy crispy shrimp was good, a little spicy may outside and crisp hot coating fried. Short rib foie gras gyoza - eh, pass for me. It was pasty and ok, but not outstanding like the beef dumplings at Nobu. Seared scallops were ok, came with some crispy fried fish skin. We shared the Japanese A-5 Wagyu Ribeye - excellent, so rich and fatty it literally melted in your mouth, the chimichurri there was excellent. Chilean sea bass in miso - too thick for any flavor in the middle other than some fishiness, didn't have enough miso flavor, skip it, as a disappointing dish. Sushi tray was a filler dish. The oh-toro (most fatty) was good, the rest was about average. Next time I have to ask for sashimi instead of nigiri, though. And some edible gold on the sushi - eh, would've preferred they spent that on something else, next time I will skip the sushi. Dessert shined, though, relative to the rest of the meal. Mochi ice cream, excellent, just a little sweet, cold and not too hard; perfectly served temperature-wise to enjoy. BondSt donuts were a hit - delicious and puff of sweet and warm with some creme and jelly. The Lychee panna cotta - again, waste of putting gold foil on it, but the panna cotta itself was firm and tasty. I'll definitely look to come back for dessert and the wagyu. The rest, I've had better elsewhere, but this is still above average. Service was pretty constant, good house iced tea that was kept refilled and changes of plates and dishes were at a good pace, but every once in a while they disappeared for a bit. read more
