I nearly cried seeing my dog. They had my baby looking like a whole new doggy! I'm so happy to have such a great grooming salon for my pup. Everyone there is so kind, helpful, great at their job and seem to truly care about your dog. They also have great prices and often run specials. Additionally, they never pressure you on the tips. I always try to hook them up but sometimes it helps with budgeting, especially in this economy, to not have tipping pressure. I'll also add that I love that they let the dogs run around and play so your dog gets some socialization and exercise in with their groom. However, they will also keep your dog in a kennel if you prefer. Additionally I love how easy it is to schedule an appointment. They text you reminders at just the right time and with a simple reply your dog's appointment is set. It's also very convenient that they keep your payment info on file. To operate at such a large scale with incredibly thorough medical care imposes a high financial risk for any business let alone one that is focused on pets found in horrendous conditions all across the state. I cannot believe there is 1-star review for someone saying, "you should just go get a bred dog for these prices." That's a different can of worms which is incredibly unfortunate to even read as that completely defeats the purpose shelters work so hard for. Needless to say, I'd much rather pay more $$ for a rescue than a bred animal so someone can make a pretty penny forcing animals to give birth for their pocketbook's sake. Now, why this shelter is actually amazing and does not deserve anything less than 5 stars (other than strikes for employee customer service experiences as of course those are more than valid): The state of Texas is so behind when it comes to managing strays and animals in general across the state. There are so many shelters that resort to putting down animals as there is such a massive volume of pets abused, isolated, abandoned, etc. I won't get into that, but suffice to say, the state/conditions a lot of these animals come in with are less than stellar. This shelter goes above and beyond for Texas' animals' wellbeing and ensures they are healthy and well looked after, not stuck in cages all day long. Moreover, they reach out to other states who are much more kind to pets and bring literal truckloads of animals up interstates to deliver to folks who will love and care for them. I think that's fantastic as it helps provide a need in other areas while also lessening the incredible burden Texas has put on itself with its mediocre pet laws and prosecution efforts. TL;DR - I received the most amazing 1-year old "aggressive breed" from this shelter who is an absolute angel and fixture in our family. The amount of care and trust they put in has absolutely wowed me and I am sure to attend their fundraisers and help in other ways I can. If you are looking for a life partner, please go here and help support the tremendous things they do for Houston and the state as a whole. Know that your money will be much better served here than elsewhere and while you may have bad customer service experiences, just know that the people that work here are more animal people than people people lol and that's a good thing!

I went to their website and filled up the forms. That same day, April 25th, I got a response that…read morethe earliest they can get Buncho in for the neutering is July 21. I get another email the next day confirming that Buncho is booked with Dr. Laura de la Prida with the date and time of appointment. July 12th I got a call asking for confirmation. I called back 4x to no avail and their voice mailbox is full. So, I emailed and told them my confirmation. They're really prompt in answering emails, just NOT phone calls. July 20th (the day before the scheduled appointment) I get another voicemail asking to re-confirm the appointment. So, I called and the lady I spoke to was clueless about what I was talking about and she eventually transferred me to the lady that actually called me for the "re-confirmation". Appointment day. I get there a few minutes before opening. I parked across the street from the clinic. A few more cars started to trickle in as my dog and I waited by the grassy area just outside the gate. A little after 8 am, they finally opened. I was the first to go in and I was immediately given the take-in forms for Buncho. Another lady took him especially since more people (and their dogs) started walking in the door. The waiting area is nice and clean and spacious. However, all the ladies that worked in there this morning seem to have woken up on the wrong side of their beds. No one smiling. You get the aura of "just-get-down-to-business". And now I'm getting a little worried for Buncho. If these people aren't happy being there, I sure hope they don't botch Buncho's neutering (first time dog mom worries here). I hesitated leaving but at this point, I'm just going to hope and pray they keep my baby safe the entire time he's out of my sight! I was told they'll call when it's time for pickup (between 12 noon - 3 pm). Well, 3 pm comes and still NO phone call. I called several times to no avail. I emailed and still no reply. So, I searched for them on FB and finally found their page. I sent a message through messenger telling them I'm on my way. Before I got in the car at around 3:20, I can see that they've read the message but still NO answer. At this point I'm already freaking out. As I was stopped at a stop light, I heard my phone ping and a one-liner message on messenger said "everything is fine with Buncho". That's it. Nothing said about when he needs to be picked up. I literally zoomed to their clinic livid but still trying to compose myself when I got there. I walked in and I can see they're extremely busy. I tried my best to be nice especially since my boys are with me and told them I never received a phone call and I'm there to check on Buncho. The lady on the front desk cordially said, "yes, he's been ready and that they're going to get him." I mean, how hard is it to make a quick phone call to let me know "he's been ready" this whole time?!! No apologies whatsoever but I'm just glad to finally see my baby again. I was ushered in as one other lady was giving me discharge instructions especially on how to put the e-collar on. It was a ginormous e-collar and the vet (Dr. Laura de la Prida) came over and told her to get a much smaller sized one. At this point, Buncho was already hyperactive and really needing to get out of there, so containing him with the leash was quite a struggle. I have to say, if it were not for the nice vet and the nice lady giving me assistance and giving me instructions on putting the e-collar correctly, I would've easily rated this place an overall 1 star. I try to be understanding and reasonable in giving this rating but NO COMMUNICATION during the time frame that they said they were going to call was UNACCEPTABLE and for that alone - that warrants a 1 star. But, the professionalism and care of the other workers and the vet made up for their lack of communication on the day of the procedure (an easy 5 stars for them). I paid a little over $140 (that's for the neuter, e-collar, pain medicine and antibiotics), a very reasonable price considering I was quoted about $500 from my other vet. Do I still recommend them. The answer is Yes. Despite the fact that I was super upset about zero communication the day of the surgery, I will still recommend them. I just hope they will find more help on that department because I can see that the vet and their assistants are doing extremely well in what they do. I can see they're expanding and they're in dire need of improving on their communication. They need someone to actually make (and take) phone calls. If they can address that, I have no doubt they'll be even more successful in what they do.
