Shrimp and grits's
Jenell C.

I've been gatekeeping this place for weeks, but it's time I say it out loud... Bon Temps is officially in my weekly rotation, and for very good reason. As a self-proclaimed foodie, I don't play about flavor. I wanted to really sit with this experience before writing a review, and after about six weeks of consistent visits, I can confidently say this place delivers every single time. Let's start with the location. It's tucked away in Midlothian in a small shopping center, and honestly, I love that. It's away from all the chaos, giving it this hidden gem energy. The space itself is intimate and cute, almost like a boutique-style restaurant with just the right amount of seating. Now the staff. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. You can tell they care. They are still fairly new, not even four months in, but they are already finding their rhythm beautifully. The servers are attentive without being overbearing, and the bartender? Elite. The drinks are crafted with intention and flavor. The owners, especially the chef, are incredibly personable, and you can feel the passion they have for what they're building. Now let's talk about what really matters... the food. Bon Temps brings together Trinidadian and Creole influences, and the result is bold, flavorful, and unforgettable. The drinks deserve their own moment. The lychee martini is dangerously good. It's one of those drinks that tastes so smooth you almost forget what it's capable of until it sneaks up on you. I also asked for their take on a French 75, and now it's my go-to every single visit. As for the food, I've worked my way through about 60 percent of the menu, and I'm not stopping anytime soon. The Cantonese shrimp is one of my favorite appetizers. It does bring the heat, so if spice isn't your thing, proceed with caution, but the flavor is absolutely worth it. Pair it with the shrimp and grits, and it balances everything out perfectly. The seafood gumbo? Rich, flavorful, and easily one of the best I've had. And I've had a lot. But now... let me say this clearly and confidently. The oxtails are the best in Virginia. Yes, I said it. After talking with the chef and learning about the three-day prep process, it all makes sense. The flavor, the tenderness, the depth, it's unmatched. If you're in the RVA area and you don't try the oxtails here, you are doing yourself a disservice. They are a little pricey, but absolutely worth every dollar. The portions are generous too. I have never left without a to-go box, and it always makes for a perfect lunch the next day. Overall, Bon Temps is more than just a restaurant. It's an experience. It's passion, flavor, and intention all wrapped into one beautiful, tucked-away spot. 10 out of 10. I will absolutely keep coming back.

Nashville Hot wings with fries

I had the pleasure of ordering to-go on their opening evening. The staff was welcoming and friendly. I ordered the Cantonese Pepper Shrimp, Nashville Hot wings, and Creole shrimp tacos. Everything was good. The fries are well seasoned. The Cantonese Pepper Shrimp are NOT for the those playing with liking spice. The shrimp are cooked perfectly. That slow creep spicy is absolutely the best and these definitely have that. The shrimp tacos are delicious. Nashville Hot wings.... The hot is not just a part of the name. They definitely come with have heat. Carribean spicy is not a game. Please know your spice level and be prepared. I will definitely be back. The inside is beautifully decorated, well lit, and inviting. I love the decor.

Everyone seems like they're nice people and the bar area is very cute but overall this just wasn't a good experience. They're understaffed. No one was around to greet us when we walked in. There were a few customers when we arrived but they weren't busy. We ordered pork belly but were later told it wouldn't be ready for another hour so we pivoted to wings. The default for the burgers I medium rare just fyi. Their $18 burger does not come with fries. Husband got the shrimp po boy that does not come with a sauce despite listing it on the menu. It's an extra $2 for a sauce and and it also doesn't come with fries. The wings were pretty good. Not the biggest fan of the sauce but they're the best thing we had. The burger was overcooked and forgettable. The beast sauce is barbecue based I guess and was nothing special. I wasn't a fan of the fries or the aioli. Po boy was fine, nothing to order again. Ironically we came here because I love lychee martinis but I never ordered one because there was no apparent bartender and I wasn't in the mood to pay for more disappointment. As we are wrapping up my husband realized we were charged for pork belly we never got. The waitress was very apologetic. They refunded the first charge then charged us for the correct amount. Other customers were enjoying their food (I heard people say they liked the shrimp and grits) but it was a miss for us. Oh random but the water in the bathroom is freezing cold when you go to wash your hands.

This spot is a hidden gem If you're into oxtails, they got you covered. I didn't even get a pic of the lamb chops with oxtail gravy--that's how fast they disappeared ‍ straight ON POINT. Chicken wings were hitting too. Definitely a spot you gotta check out

We had a wonderful dining experience here. The food was absolutely delicious and so were the drinks. It was only their fifth day of opening and everything came out perfect and we did not have to wait long for the food. We had the shrimp and blue crab gumbo, shrimp and grits, pork belly appetizer, and tiger prawn appetizer along with some old-fashions. They were all wonderful. We forgot to take a picture of our dessert, which was a beignet with banana cream inside of it. It was so good! They have a nice lovely bar set up and the dining area was very nice and can accommodate a lot of people. We will definitely be back!

Great atmosphere came when it wasn't crowded on a Sunday. Had the margarita pura with some scrumptious shrimp wontons and for my entree had the seafood gumbo. Very flavorful and tasty. I would recommend

Food was terrific and fresh. Don't expect quick, but well worth any wait. Service is good, but quality takes a minute. Really enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere.

The tacos... amazing with the ranch sauce.

This was my first time here for lunch and it will not be my last. From the attentiveness of the staff and the freshness of the food, everything was on point. The place was even clean! I will definitely be back.

An unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. Every dish was crafted with precision, bursting with bold flavors and beautiful presentation. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between elegant and inviting, and the service is effortlessly attentive. This isn't just a meal -- it's a place you'll be planning to return to before you even leave.

Great food- Cantonese shrimp little bit salty. Shrimp tacos are awesome. You can pick different sauces that's a plus. Unfortunately they sold out the pork belly tonight. Restaurant is Caribbean vibes, felt like you are in vacation. Very busy, restaurant is packed with customers

I noticed the ice cream/yogurt spot nearby was hopping. There was a person asking for change outside the front door. We were greeted by an enthusiastic host and seated immediately at a booth up front. The server came by within seconds and brought us water and place settings. We decided to get the chips and salsa for an appetizer and a pair of melting chimichangas for entrees. I can't resist some chorizo and steak. My partner got the chimichanga without chorizo and with chicken. The ambiance was colorful with beautifully painted murals on each wall, and the atmosphere was undeniably loud. There were lots of patrons. The place was packed, even at the bar, so your mileage may vary. We received our orders within minutes of each other, so there wasn't much of a wait time. The chips and salsa were homemade, fresh, warm, and delicious (muy rico). Same for the entrees; exactly what I want in a Mexican food restaurant. The chorizo and steak were well-cooked, seasoned, and chopped finely, but not ground. I was in heaven with that chimichanga. We had to take home leftovers. The next night, heated in the oven at 325 for 30 minutes, they were similarly excellent. The night ended without dessert, sadly (too full). However, the server was quick and efficient, and he was always around to fill water and bring anything we needed throughout the meal. Great experience overall. We will definitely return here whenever we have a hankering for some good Mexican food at reasonable prices. I can recommend this place to anyone who appreciates hearty and filling Mexican food.

We considered a few places but decided on Big Chile based on the authentic look of the food in reviews. Our visit didn't disappoint as we received good service from our waitress and the food was excellent. There was a variety of patrons dining in and a few came in to pickup takeout orders. They had bar seating, high tables and low tables which is probably most fitting for a couple's date. First came the chips and salsa which were fresh and tasty. The first bite into the taco was full of flavor. The steak was tender and juicy and the corn tortilla was fresh and had a slight crunch. The brisket quesadilla was my favorite. It hit my exact craving. We boxed 1 slice of the quesadilla and the remaining chips and salsa to later and finished them that later that night. I'd definitely return to this place.

She was so kind and was like don't worry I got it. I was cleaning some of the sauce on the floor and she just was like no I got it. Also, I had a toddler that was having a total meltdown. The lady was trying to help me with that! There was a language barrier, but she was just trying to know his age and tried to smile at him. It was also the evening time so, it was busy, but she was just so calm and helpful. I didn't get a name, but you are amazing and hope you are doing well! Tacos were the best I had since my trip to the Bay in '19. Al pastor was perfect. My husband said the chicken quesadilla is the best he's ever had in his life.
