Bon Temps is such a cute spot. The only thing that threw me off initially was the location because it's in a shopping center next to Food Lion and a Chinese restaurant. You really wouldn't expect the vibe you get once you walk inside. The decor is beautiful and gives tropical getaway or island vibes. Everything felt intentional, and they did a really good job using the space. It's a smaller restaurant, but I liked the setup. The tables are mostly four seaters that can be pushed together for larger groups. I could definitely see this being a date night or girls night spot. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was great. I've never had Caribbean food before, so I needed some help choosing what to order. He helped me pick both my food and my drink, and I'm glad I listened to him. I ordered the In Bloom cocktail, and it was beautiful. The reddish purple color and the glass made it very picture worthy. I don't typically drink gin, but the bartender told me to trust him, and I'm glad I did because it was really good. The drinks are definitely pricey at $18, but I thought it was worth it. If that drink were a little cheaper, I'd probably be a regular. For food, I ordered the Stew Chicken with Red Beans & Rice. Everything came out hot and fresh, and surprisingly, it came out pretty quickly. I absolutely loved the red beans and rice, and the mac and cheese was the perfect addition. The chicken was different from what I expected, but it was delicious. It had a little spice to it, which I loved. The flavor reminded me of chicken cooked in an oxtail gravy. My only hesitation was that the chicken didn't necessarily look like chicken to me at first But once I tasted it, I didn't care what it looked like because it was good. They also have happy hour Wednesday through Friday from 4 to 6 PM, and the prices definitely caught my attention. They have $6 shots, $6 wings and po' boy bites, $5 tacos, and $5 to $6 drinks. I definitely want to come back during happy hour and try some of those. Overall, I really enjoyed Bon Temps. The location may not look like much from the outside, but once you walk in, it feels completely different. Bon Temps got me. Bad. My first order was supposed to be me simply trying a new spot. Four weeks later, I've ordered the Stewed Chicken every single week. At this point, I'm no longer sure if I'm a regular or if I have a problem. We started with the Pimento Beignets, and they immediately set the tone. Light, airy, warm, cheesy, and savory without being heavy. Then came the Buffalo Shrimp -- big, fresh, quality shrimp with a buffalo sauce that brought the heat and tang without covering up the flavor of the shrimp. No tiny over-breaded shrimp hiding under sauce here. Then came the star. The Stewed Chicken with red beans and rice, baked macaroni, and plantains was ridiculous. Tender, deeply seasoned, rich, comforting, and packed with flavor all the way through. I've eaten stewed chicken on several Caribbean islands, and I can confidently say this is some of the best I've had anywhere. The fact that I've gone back for it four weeks straight probably says more than I ever could. The Chicken Roti deserves its own praise too. The roti was soft, light, tender, and pliable with just enough flakiness -- exactly what you want when it's wrapped around a flavorful Trinidadian-style filling. What I really enjoy about Bon Temps is how naturally the Trinidadian and Creole influences come together. Nothing feels forced. You get layers of spice, seasoning, technique, and comfort in the same bite. And here are two sleepers: GET THE LIMEADE. Bright, tart, refreshing, and the perfect counterbalance to all of those bold flavors. Then finish with the Banana au Rhum Beignets. Trust me. One thing worth mentioning: every experience I've had so far has actually been takeout. That makes the consistency even more impressive. The food has traveled well every single time, portions have been solid, and the staff I've interacted with have always been pleasant and welcoming. Bon Temps is tucked into a shopping center next to Food Lion, close to the fire station, and I'll admit it seems like an odd place for a restaurant, but the moment you step inside, it all makes sense. The space is beautifully decorated and feels warm and inviting, and the staff were so friendly that I felt welcome right away. The owner even took time to chat, which made the visit feel a little more personal. For my meal, I went with the shrimp and grits, and the prawns were large and full of flavor (they come head-on, just so you know). The grits were cooked to perfection and had crab stirred right in, so every bite was rich and satisfying. I also ordered the blue crab beignets, and I was pleasantly surprised by how full they were. There was no filler, just real crab wrapped in a crispy outside, and they were packed with flavor. Be aware if you do not like a little spice that some of the dishes pack more of a punch than others. To drink, I tried a mocktail, I can't remember the name, but it was well balanced and not overly sweet, which I really appreciated. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. read more

The Good: They've nailed the important stuff. I'd actually rate them a 3.5 star, but that's not an option. - Overall, the food is good -- offerings, quality, texture, flavors. Favorite was the Spanish mackerel fish and chips. Fantastic! The fries were absolutely delicious, too. Next favorite was the shrimp and cheesy grits. I did expect them to have a bit more spice/Caribbean bite, but they were still delicious. The beignets were also delicious. I loooved the flavor and texture. Unfortunately, the filling was cold. Like...straight-from-fridge cold. I'm guessing they premade the beignets and did not give them time to come up to temp before frying them. The chicken tacos were fine, but they, too, were not hot. In this case, I'm guessing they sat too long, waiting to be delivered, because the place was understaffed. - The servers were kind. This was impressive because there were only two of them and the place was packed. - Smart location. Easy to get to. Ample parking makes visiting easier. The Not So Good: Only one thing! - The interior is seriously lacking in the main seating area and it's "cold" enough to make me not want to spend time there. Especially if I have to wait a long time for the food (on a busy night). Basically, if you are not at the front by the lovely bar and window area (which has large tables for groups of six), you are stuck in a narrow, windowless room with black ceilings, dark floors, and walls painted a dark teal. This decor works well at the front of the restaurant, but only because there is plenty of natural light there. In the hallway/room, however, it's depressing. Cafeteria-like. And if I'm paying $140 for a meal (our price for four people without alcohol), I want to be comfortable and not feel like I'm in a cafeteria. The current economy has meant that we cannot go out as often as we'd like -- this was my birthday dinner -- and that makes ambiance matter just as much as the food. Easy fix: The vibe can easily be improved with 1) more ambient, warm light (lamps or up-lights in bare corners), 2) wallpaper that compliments what's in the bar area, 3) a few large palms/plants, and 4) larger art on the wall (right now there are cool records, but the scale/size does not match what's needed for the space). Bonus: Under-table hooks (or even wall hooks) to hold purses so ladies don't need to put them on the floor. Wow. If you're looking for Creole with a kick -- this is it. It's only Day 7 since they opened, and clearly word has gotten out. My husband and our two kids went, and we literally grabbed the last available table. A little constructive feedback: the front area feels tight. There's no real hostess stand or waiting area, so when it's packed (which it was), it feels crowded. They may want to consider moving the larger tables toward the back and creating a bit more breathing room up front. That said -- the owners were incredibly kind. The wife was very apologetic and transparent that they were completely bombarded this weekend and hadn't anticipated how busy it would be. We genuinely appreciated the heads-up. And honestly? When the food and drinks are this good, it's hard to fault growing pains. They had already run out of the crispy pork belly, but we snagged the last order of the shrimp wontons -- absolutely delicious. They came with this smoky, slightly sweet sauce (not sure what it was exactly) that elevated the whole dish. Drinks were on point. The kids had bottled sodas (Fanta and root beer). I had an Old Fashioned -- perfectly balanced and smooth. My husband had the Soho Manhattan, and we both agreed it was one of the best Manhattans we've had... rivaling a great Black Manhattan. Bon Temps was a good time indeed. I went with some friends after work and we didn't know what to expect, but we arrived to find a DJ, an MC, and a videographer. People were having a time. In terms of food, we ordered a little bit of everything. The wings with crack sauce were not my favorite, but it was more the sauce than the wings. I started out with a beefy slider and it was ‍ flavorful, with a generous portion of meat, and the perfect amount of cooking time for the burger. It was juicy! I also had a fried chicken taco, and even got a disclaimer from a staff member about it being spicy. I guess they didn't see that I was Mexican I was ready. The taco isn't even close to being Mexican, but they don't claim to, so nbd. It was very flavorful and the hot sauce had a nice heat to it. I also got a chance to sample the savory beignets. Call me uncultured, but I only thought of them as desserts. These pimento cheese beignets were great though, would get again. The last food I tried was the mushroom grits. I've never been a fan of grits, but these were so good. Whole time I've been missing out on grits. In terms of service, it's hard to say exactly. My friends ordered food to-go at the same time as we ordered our dine-in food, but we had an extremely long wait to get our food and ended up being later for the show we were catching at 7pm. We thought it was really tasty. We thought the portions were a really good size, but we waited for her over and a half hour for our food and we were the second table in the restaurant. We thought it was a very very, very very tasty rue that was nice and smoky that was part of the duck gumbo. I had the shrimp and grits that had a tasty crab sauce over it. The grits could have been smoother. We just saw everything was a little bit more expensive than it should be. The vegetarian dishes were the same price as the meat dishes, 30 for mushroom gumbo was extreme. There was no bread service and that was a problem when we waited over a half hour for food we really liked our entrées. We didn't really like the dessert that much. The beignets were a little doughy and the cream and it was very boozy and I didn't taste the bananas now if this was a downtown restaurant with high-end service, maybe you could go for these prices but we thought everything was a little bit too expensive and we didn't even order a drink, cause they were super expensive. I might try it again for a happy hour. It is in a strip mall, next to grocery store. Everyone seems like they're nice people and the bar area is very cute but overall this just wasn't a good experience. They're understaffed. No one was around to greet us when we walked in. There were a few customers when we arrived but they weren't busy. We ordered pork belly but were later told it wouldn't be ready for another hour so we pivoted to wings. The default for the burgers I medium rare just fyi. Their $18 burger does not come with fries. Husband got the shrimp po boy that does not come with a sauce despite listing it on the menu. It's an extra $2 for a sauce and and it also doesn't come with fries. The wings were pretty good. Not the biggest fan of the sauce but they're the best thing we had. The burger was overcooked and forgettable. The beast sauce is barbecue based I guess and was nothing special. I wasn't a fan of the fries or the aioli. Po boy was fine, nothing to order again. Ironically we came here because I love lychee martinis but I never ordered one because there was no apparent bartender and I wasn't in the mood to pay for more disappointment. As we are wrapping up my husband realized we were charged for pork belly we never got. The waitress was very apologetic. They refunded the first charge then charged us for the correct amount. The crab roll appetizer works with fries as a entrée lots of crab meat and super tasty fries. We had the shrimp bruschetta appetizer which was on point great spice and a vinegar undertone. We also ordered the mushroom appetizer and they came really nicely batter fried shiitake mushrooms and two really tasty dipping sauces. We were fighting over the mushrooms lol. Every time I walk in, I'm greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. You can tell they care. They are still fairly new, not even four months in, but they are already finding their rhythm beautifully. The servers are attentive without being overbearing, and the bartender? Elite. The drinks are crafted with intention and flavor. The owners, especially the chef, are incredibly personable, and you can feel the passion they have for what they're building. We had a wonderful dining experience here. The food was absolutely delicious and so were the drinks. It was only their fifth day of opening and everything came out perfect and we did not have to wait long for the food. We had the shrimp and blue crab gumbo, shrimp and grits, pork belly appetizer, and tiger prawn appetizer along with some old-fashions. They were all wonderful. We forgot to take a picture of our dessert, which was a beignet with banana cream inside of it. It was so good! I was going to give it a three until the cook came out. Let's get started. I've read the reviews and seen plenty of post about this place, therefore I was really excited to come. I went on a Friday night. It wasn't packed so we received a table pretty quickly. The good things: 1. The vibe and atmosphere was really nice. The music was great! 2. Over all, the food was good. It wasn't the "OMG!!! I HAVE TO COME BACK TYPE", but it was good. My partner ordered the shrimp and grits and they were good. I ordered the lamb chops (mistake) and my daughter had the duck gumbo (I think that was the name). We had an appetizer of wings with the sauce on the side. The not so good things: 1. As I stated, we were seated pretty quickly, however it took some time for the waitress to come get our drink orders. When she did come over, she was good a suggesting items on the menu and was nice about answering our question. (That was the last real interaction we had with her) 2. Again, overall the food was good. The appetizer wings were a little salty. We got the sauce on the side as this was our first time there and wanted to try their special sauce on the side. I ordered lamb chops prepared medium. My daughters duck was a little dry, but she ate it anyway. She wasn't too impressed with the sauce and rice mixture. 3. MY MOFO LAMB CHOPS!!!! The were not cooked to order. One was well done and the other was med-well. There was a guy server (not our server) who came to check on us and we showed him the lamb chops and stated there were overcooked. He agreed and took them back. After waiting a while someone (not our server) brought back the second order and stated to check them to see if they were cooked to order. This time they were rare! I was done! She said I could take them back. At this point, I told her not to worry about it, we'll just take them home and recook them. I ate off my partners plate and my daughters plate. I was getting irritated, because we were just left sitting. 4. The server was non existent. We didn't get refills on water nor did she come by to see what was wrong or if we were ok. I just ate the fries that came with the order. We waited forever and still did not get any attention from our waiter. The table next to us went to complain about having to wait for their check. I noticed that other tables were waiting for a while as well. There was a party there, but they weren't that big. 5. I went to complain to a female manager who stated she would take care of it. I also advised her that we didn't have water either. The waiter still did not come by. The cook came out and argued with us about how the lamb chops were cooked. He TOLD us that we didn't see where the lamb chops were cooked med. He argued that it wasn't well done or med well. When it came back to him, he cut through it and saw that it was med. I showed him the new lamb chop and showed him that it was rare. He stated he cooked it a little under so it could come out the way I wanted it. I was like "NO! I asked for Med not rare!" My partner eventually told him to not worry about it, obviously we were seeing different things. The cook was rude af!!! No apology nor a let me fix it, just argumentative!! Our waiter still did not come over. The manager comp'd our ticket of the lamb chops and gave an additional 10% off. I was willing to go back and try something different, but after the rude cook, the non attentive server, and seeing other customers having to get up and ask the manager for help was a bit much for me! I really wanted to try the beignets, but I wanted to get out of there asap!! The ticket was still $90!! For the rude and slow service, I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. After a while she reassured us our food would be out in 5 minutes. It was actually 10 minutes but, lt was worth the wait. The presenatation was a 10. The food was extraordinary. Very much packed with FLAVOR! CON's: I ordered a $8 beer. The waitress brings me a halfway full 16oz glass. I asked where is the rest of this $8 beer? This when she begin to tell me they only have cans not draft beer. Might I suggest purchasing pint size glasses, No way, they paid $48 for a 6 pack. Then when I ordered a double shot of 1792 the bartender told me $40. Nope, you can keep that too! I never been stuck up without a gun in my face & I'm not about to start today. I wish them well. We had a great experience at Bon Temps, which just recently opened! We had tried the La Bête Food Truck a couple times before, so I already had high expectations--and they definitely delivered. We started with drinks, and my husband and I both ordered the Rich Millionaire. It was perfect--smooth, balanced, and a great way to kick off the night. For appetizers, we had the Cantonese shrimp with crab rice. Whew! It was spicy, incredibly flavorful, and honestly so good I wish it came as an entrée. Even the kids' chicken tenders were bursting with flavor--our kids ate every bite, which says a lot! For our entrées, we had the seafood gumbo and the fish po' boy. Both were delicious and packed with flavor. I especially loved the variety of homemade sauces you could choose from. We finished the night by ordering the banana au rhum beignets to go, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, amazing food, great service, and cozy ambiance. We'll definitely be back! read more

This was our first time eating here, and we were really excited after seeing so many online video reviews praising both the food and the service. Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. When we arrived, it took a while before we were even greeted, and it quickly became obvious that the hostess was also serving as the waitress for the entire restaurant. After being seated, it took about 20 minutes just to receive water. Since she was the only person working the floor, we decided to go ahead and place our full order at that time. We specifically told her we were ordering appetizers but wanted them served as our meals. My daughter also ordered shrimp and grits as her entrée. Unfortunately, it seemed like our request wasn't really heard because the appetizers came out early and were cold. Considering she was handling the entire restaurant alone and wasn't checking on the food, it wasn't surprising. After we finished the appetizers, my daughter's shrimp and grits still had not arrived. Once we were finally able to get the waitress/hostess's attention, she went to check on the order and later returned saying she wasn't sure what happened, but thought the meal may have been given to another table and that another order would be made. What I assume was the manager or owner later stopped by to ask about our experience. We explained that the food was cold and that there had been a major delay with the missing entrée. Her response was simply, "I'm sorry, I'll have to speak with the kitchen." Nothing was offered or done to make up for the experience, despite it being clear they were short staffed. On top of that, several menu items we attempted to order were unavailable. The reason I'm giving the rating that I am is because, despite everything, the food actually had good flavor. Very excited about this restaurant! I had tried the food truck La Bete and loved it so to have a brick and mortar right off Midlothian Tpke is awesome. Great mix of carribean and creole flavors. We started with the pimento cheese beignets and Cantonese Pepper shrimp, both were incredible. For our first visit we tried both gumbos (seafood and duck/andouille) they were equally good with the homemade hot sauce adding an extra kick of heat for me. Relaxed atmosphere and great drink menu. Owners and staff were super welcoming and helpful. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! read more
