Did you know that a man named Serge Voronoff once implanted pieces of chimpanzee testicles onto the scrotum of human males in order to increase sexual sustainability? Well you do now. I know this because every drink at Bon-Bon has a story behind it. And my favorite drink there is called the Monkey Gland. Named for the crazy scientist's favorite procedure, It's a delicious blend of orange juice, gin and grenadine served in a glass washed with absinthe. It's topped with a brandy-soaked cherry and is the best drink in Spokane. Not only does the drink come with a story, but the juice is freshly squeezed on the spot by some of Spokane's best (and - I'll say it - most beautiful) bartenders. Crystal and Kelli seriously know how to make a drink. And they do it so well, that I find myself perched at this lost-in-time bar at least once a week. Yeah, I have a problem. I actually have 99 problems. But a drink ain't one. So come meet me at Bon-Bon. If my monkey gland has anything to say about it, you certainly won't be disappointed. Sadly, the drink doesn't last as long as the good doctor would hope. But hey, that's why I usually do it four times in a row. Bartender! Another drink please!

This is one of my favorite bars in Spokane. Has a classic ambience and delicious drinks. Happy hour all day Sunday with strong cocktails! They've also added trivia on Monday Nights!

This is a small bar located in the Garland Theater that I may have missed entirely if not for being directed to it by friends.

The whole atmosphere is dark, cozy, moody, and feels more like a hidden lounge than a typical downtown bar. Between the lighting, music, books, and dramatic cocktail menus, the vibe alone makes the place worth visiting. We tried the espresso martini, Painkiller, and Bloody Verde. The espresso martini was smooth and easy to drink without being overly sweet, and the Painkiller had that creamy tropical flavor that somehow still worked with the darker speakeasy atmosphere. Keeping it honest though, the Bloody Verde just wasn't for me personally. I can still appreciate the creativity behind it, but the flavor combo just didn't match my taste buds. That being said, if you like savory spicy cocktails, you'd probably feel very differently about it. Service was friendly, drinks came out looking great, and the music really tied the whole experience together. Definitely feels like one of Spokane's more unique cocktail spots if you want something moodier and more relaxed.

What we ordered: * Whipped Honey Cornbread: Seared edges, whipped honey butter, and scallions. Honestly addictive. Sweet, buttery, slightly crisp on the outside and soft inside! I just can't stop eating them * Hush Puppies: Served hot and crunchy with Louisiana Come Back sauce. Simple but really well done, especially with this dipping sauce. * Poached Pear Salad: Sweet poached pears, with a nutty flavor from candied pecans and dried cherries. I don't like goat cheese so I just pretend it didn't exist Light but flavorful, with a nice balance of sweet and tangy to pair with 2 heavy dishes above. * Voodoo Pork Chop: My main dish, I was surprised with the huge portion (10oz chop), served with collard greens, creole sauce, and sweet potatoes. Pork was incredibly tender and juicy, a bit salty but this is one of the best ones I've had in a while. It honestly felt like two servings and is definitely shareable. The space is beautiful with eclectic interior design, warm lighting, and a staircase that gives the whole place a nice vibe for dinner. The tater tots with the sauce on top were also a standout and something I'd order again without hesitation. That said, the service wasn't the best, especially for a first visit. We arrived around 5:30pm and left around 8. When we arrived we immediately felt warm and cozy. The vibes are absolutely immaculate! There are plants and cute decor everywhere and the lighting is really soothing. We were shown to a table in the back that was more private and it really felt like we had our own little garden that we were hanging out in. The server was very nice and friendly. Both she and the other server or bartender were friendly and attentive. We ordered a bunch of drinks throughout the night. I had two pinky promises because I don't drink and they were absolutely delicious. They have some great mocktail options to choose from! We also got the hummus board and the bites board and they were fantastic! The hummus board had two rotating hummus options - one was a normal hummus and the other was a beet hummus. The pita chips seemed freshly made and were AMAZING. I wish I could take a bag to go with me! The bites board was also amazing and had some delicious cheeses. We asked to have the meats replaced with other things to make it vegetarian and it was fantastic. They should add it as a menu item, we loved every bit of it! It didn't feel like it had substitutions at all. We loved every second of our time there and kept saying how we wished it was local to us. This place is an absolute gem and I hope it gets more traction because of how wonderful it is. If I ever visit Spokane again I will absolutely be back here!
