We've eaten here probably five or six times in 2023. It's among the most expensive places in the area to eat. There are a few great things about the restaurant: the view and the sunsets and the location are unbeatable, the live pianist in the dining room is quite talented and takes requests, the service and the ambiance are great. But Bon Appetit is definitely old fashioned in many ways -- on the verge of out-dated. The use of iPads and the system of bringing a credit card machine to the table to close out is tacky. We recently noticed a sharp decline in the quality of the food and discovered the restaurant is under new management. Our family has a few favorite items on this menu; we order the French onion soup and the ahi tuna every single time we come. The French onion soup is still among the best we've ever had and still worth ordering, but the ahi tuna has completely fallen off. The last two times we ordered the tuna, the fish was old and stinky and clearly of subpar quality. We miss the sauce it was formerly dished with. But nothing compares to the absolute travesty of the steaks they attempted to pass off at this dinner. Pricing any 12-16oz steak over $50 sets a bar and expectation for EXCELLENCE. And every aspect from the cut, to the seasoning and preparation, to the execution was a massive fail. We ordered the NY strip and the Kona ribeye. You could see that they were going to be bad before we even tasted them. The strip did not appear to be seasoned at all. The first two bites I tried I had to literally pull back out of my mouth with my fingers because the gristle was too tough to chew and swallow. I knew I would not be eating the rest of the chewy, sad meat. The ribeye was pathetically thin. Even as the waiter delivered the plate to the table, eyebrows were raised. It looked like a skinny pork chop drowning in sauce. It was mega overcooked. It's the kind recipe you might try to dress up a skirt or flank steak, or any cheap cut of meat -- not a $60 ribeye. My husband choked it down anyways and did not ask to remove it from the bill, even though it was the third unacceptable dinner (of 5 ordered total) served at our table. Not wanting the night to end on a sour note, we did order dessert and it was of good quality. The coconut cream pie and tiramisu were both quite tasty and we love the coffee at Bon Appetit -- thankfully that hasn't changed. But the ahi tuna and those steaks were ABYSMAL. The chef truly should be ashamed to have sent those plates out. Csaba was our waiter, and the service was pretty good. I do think more of a gesture should have been made to correct the poor experience -- more than half our table had bad meals. That warrants more than just taking two plates off the check. A manager definitely should have checked in with our table. With Fenway's Chophouse less than a mile away, with an absolutely knock-your-socks-off tomahawk steak on the menu for less than the price of these two steaks -- I doubt we will try Bon Appetit again. read more

Delicious food with great service! Ambience is delightful! Wonderful to watch dolphins playing in the water!

Amazing staff and ambiance. Tiramisu was delicious. Drinks were cheap for the high end vibe. Melissa was a amazing waitress. :)

This was my second time here. I didn't want to wrote a bad review based off first experience. We came Saturday afternoon and sat at the bar outside this time. I'm giving 3 stars because the Ahi tuna was good although I thought it would come with wasabi not guacamole. The staff is not friendly at all. Prepping the bar is important and making sure there's clean glasses wrapped silverware etc BUT at least acknowledge people when they sit down. The bartender didn't say hello and gave us 1 menu and walked away. Didn't ask if we wanted water or a drink. Finally got someone's attention and ordered 2 drinks (mimosa and draft beer). We also the ahi to hold us over until we ordered meals. We didn't end up ordering anything else because no one came back to take our order or offer us more drinks. We flagged the guy down again paid our bill and left. Beautiful atmosphere horrible customer service read more

We hadn't been here in over 10 years, so it was well overdue to try again. It was Saturday and a date night We had made reservations on line using their website, very easy. We were seated at a beautiful table for two inside along the water. Service The service was excellent. Our waiter was professional and experienced. He knew the menu very well and was always there to fill our glass, get bread and check on us. Food The salad was their version of the Columbia Salad. Julienned ham, Swiss, olives and a lovely dressing over cold lettuce. Mostly romaine. Dinner- wife has the chicken w pecan butter. I had the Dover Sole plated table side. Both entrees were hot, delicious and beautifully presented. Wine We brought our own bottle and paid the decanting few. Outside There is outside dining snd a bar but you can't make reservations as far as k know. First come first serve. Overall an excellent dining experience. Highly recommend read more

We stopped there for drinks at the outside bar and was going to eat. I ordered the Ocean Mist drink which to me was weak. I could barely taste the alcohol. Snobby clientele as this place appears to be a hangout for the snobby upty crowd. We decided to pass on food and go somewhere else. read more

View and drinks were good. Food ok out on the patio. Services was always good so no complaints there

Outstanding meal, service and ambiance! Our first time visiting the area, my wife and I were celebrating our 35 year anniversary. The escargot app. was fabulous as was the rest of the meal. They even topped the experience off by giving us a certificate for a bottle of champagne on our next visit. read more

This is one of my favorite waterfront restaurants. We recently came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Nice atmosphere. The service is impeccable. The food is incredible. Our waiter even encouraged us to watch the sunset from our table. read more

We left due to the weird set up dining on patio bar in parking lot and guitar can I play so cars driving front of him people walk back-and-forth from the restaurant to the bar crossing in front of the very highly traffic valet area which is totally dangerous. I don't know why they were just black it all off. Manual was overpriced for what you get choices are not very good bye-bye read more

Wanted to love this place, but it was a mixed bag. Positives - gorgeous view on the patio and crème brûlée & coffee. Overall Decent service. Not so positive - It was a birthday celebration so we booked an advance online reservation only to learn they don't honor reservations for patio dining. Why not? Since COVID,, we only dine outside. No standard wasabi for my friend's go-to Ahi Tuna, but some type of wasabi guacamole hash? She ordered mussels and they were smothered in onions and tomatoes. We asked the server if the menu mentioned that, he said yes, left and didn't come back until much later. That said, this was obviously a problem or we wouldn't have asked but there was no offer to replace w/ something else. She avoids conflict at any cost so tried to scrape them off best she could. Double checked on way out but there was no mention of either on the menu. My Grilled Black grouper sandwich was a small portion - couldn't describe the sauce. Honestly it didn't have that firmer texture of blank grouper but the fries were good and it was ok At this price point, overall - disappointing. read more

So amazing staff for sure. Good service. Food is good. Best thing about the restaurant is the outside bar to feel the breeze and watch s sunset. Except for the fact that new management changed the outside fans which don't work as well as the previous ones and the birds. The birds are overtaking the bar and there is nothing the bartenders can do about it. Looks like someone tried to cover the corners where they go and nest but um hello they get around that and it is a pain to deal With. Feel like there is more management can do to make The outside experience more enjoyable. Oh and now there is the new frozen machine that blocks a lot of the water and sunset view. New management pay attention to what worked before you bought this restaurant. read more

We had reservations but decided to just have drinks at sunset on the patio bar. It was great even in the chilly weather!

Food was very good. Restaurant has a beautiful view of the intercostal and we were fortunate enough to see the sunset.

From the minute we walked in to the minute we left, we totally enjoyed our experience at Bon Appetit in Dunelin. Everyone was pleasant with big warm smiles. We asked to be near the piano player and were accommodated. We enjoyed the music and being close, thinking if we were further away, we'd never be able to hear it....lots of chatting people that night. Our waitress, I believe her name was Rebecca, was more than awesome. She suggested wines and was kind enough to give us tastings so we could decide. She was more than efficient and attentive to us. Our meals were top notch, cooked to perfection. The atmosphere was romantic, ohhh la la. We were sorry we didn't have room in our full tummies for dessert. We would HIGHLY recommend Bon Appetit to anyone visiting Dunedin. Thank you for a wonderful evening. read more

Will never go here again. I used to really enjoy sitting outside. Today I was excited to share this restaurant with my soon to be mother in-law as she is visiting from NY and 84 years old. I asked Winston the host if we could sit at a Specific table that was not in direct sun. I explained I was just going to help my mother in-law get out of the car. Which was right in front of the host stand. He was not friendly at all when I walked up. He had an attitude when I asked for that table. There were a several empty tables but he explained that those are for parties of five and we were only three. That's fine because I showed him the table I wanted. He acknowledged and I went to get Lucy. Two woman walked up and he took them straight to the table I wanted. When he came back to the stand his excuse was first come first serve. I do not understand the logic of not sitting 3 people at a 5 top with two empty seats but sitting 2 people at a 4 top and still having 2 empty seats. He was very rude and unprofessional. My parting words were I hope you have an experience just like this with your mother. Very unpleasant experience. Disappointed. We were going there for lunch and to inquire about possibly have our wedding there. I had my mothers funeral lunch there with 50+ people. Service since has gone down hill. I do not recommend! read more

Can't make reservations for outdoors so You never know if you're going get in. In an evening sometimes you don't get a table till 8 PM. And then No one pays any attention to you unless your entire party is there. I was sat at the table for good 20 minutes waiting to order a drink. As soon as my friends showed up two of the waitresses came over. you get rushed to pay the bill and get out the door at 9 PM sometimes when you still have wine and food in front of you. They really need to stay open past 9 o'clock, we're not in high school! read more

I used to love this place. Now, not so much. My wife and I have been here several times and loved the Mediterranean octopus. It was a fabulous dish that had a nice savory broth, artichokes, pancetta, and sun dried tomatoes. I looked forward to getting it every time. Alas that is no more, we went on Sunday and they changed the sauce to butter. Not a butter sauce, just butter. This went from a dish that I ordered every time, to one that I will never order again. They ruined a perfectly good dish. It went from complex and sublime, to one dimensional and tasteless. Too bad. I'm only giving it three stars because of the view. read more

We reserved a table at 9pm at New Year's Eve but we had to wait 30 minutes after 9pm, the designated time we were supposed to be seated and served. I was upset of this. But the food was magnificent. We enjoyed the food. The servers were very kind too. Very excellent. read more

i was staying at the hotel sharing the parking lot w this lovely restaurant and my son and I decided to grab a drink at the (outdoor) bar. had a drink and some calamari. service was friendly and everything was great (including the lively and picturesque location). Went with 3 friends to celebrate a birthday. Sat at table outside facing west for the sunset. Much more casual than all my past dinners at bon appetit. But just as pricey for what you get. Very good broiled grouper. Very average sides. Service was casual and none too attentive for what I had expected of bon appetit. Now owned by crabby bill's organization but with same European chef. Wine selections pretty unremarkable. I think I'd rather go elsewhere for local fish served with flair n friendliness. Seaweeds belleair is nice... btw read more

Excellent food and service! The atmosphere was just as expected on the water in Florida. Absolutely perfect.

My experience at the Bon was amazing! From when I was greeted to when I left it was nothing short of spectacular. The service was very attentive and top notch, not to mention servers Sierra, Grace and Christine were very friendly, welcoming and always had a smile on their faces. You can tell they love what they're doing and are great at it. I sat down at the terrace for one of the best views in Dunedin to enjoy one of the greatest lunch meals I've ever had. The blackened grouper sandwich was great to start with. Paired well with a veggie medley and a delightful house salad. I tried the stone crab claws and they're definitely worth it especially if you love fresh crab. Moved on to the bouillabaisse and that was a grand slam of a dish! The broth is out of this world good to go with all the other components in the dish. Ended with a peanut butter mouse, something you can never go wrong with. I was very thirsty as well and Sierra always made sure my glass of water never went empty. Highly recommend Bon Appetit for the phenomenal food, world class service and incredible ambiance. I hope this place never goes out of business cause you'll never lose mine! *Chefs kiss* read more

Mediocre food presented in a beautiful setting. One must admit that the location (location, location) of this restaurant is finger licking good. What is not so, is the food itself. On a recent visit, we felt some pressure to leave our table since they wanted another seating to start. A restaurant that claims to radiate an European (French) atmosphere in setting and taste should follow the tradition of the country it tries to emulate. Furthermore, the food is quite mediocre as well. A couple examples: - A filet mignon was NOT a filet mignon but another cut of beef. It was not tender but rather mushy. - A ceasar salad was a joke. A few leaves of salad, some croutons and parmesan grinds from a package, - Beef tips that were greasy and hard to chew All the dishes are priced to be top notch but they all fall short... I did not want to complain to the waiter nor staff since I was with other people. This restaurant has to up its ante before I will say "Bon Appetit" again inside this establishment. read more

This is my 8th or 9th time at Bon Appetite...and may be the last. The last time we were there the food was just excellent, however last night left lots to be desired. We ordered two appetizers the Ahi Tuna seared and stone crabs 1 lb. Tuna was excellent, stone crabs were like last months. Our entree was shrimp and pasta, 8 out of 10, I ordered the scallops, rare. The scallops were cooked pretty good however they were about 1/2 inch thick and greasy. And we only served one roll per person and had to ask for more....a little basket with 4 or 5 would have been nicer. They could have been crispier also. Now for the drinks. I ordered a Grey Goose Martini straight up...it was done nice $12.00. I then ordered a Cosmo with Grey Goose and was charged additional $4.00 for Grey Goose....REALLY!!!!!! I would not recommend due to food and cocktails. read more

Best thing: location, views, the Tiramisu Worst thing: tried 4 drinks on their menu, every single one beyond doubt was watered down. It's just wrong to do that, I know it's common in touristy joints but it's not acceptable. All drinks were just plain bad. Food: the Shrimps dish in appetizer was good. From mains, my grouper was over cooked and chewy, hubby's Rob Eye Steak was good. The kids had Fettuccine, Salmon, surf n turf - al very above average. read more
