a plate of naan bread and a bowl of soup

The food was absolutely incredible-- I had samosas and a veggie roll but also tried the butter chicken and tikka masala that my friends ordered, and it was delicious as well. truly good food. the service was great, they treated us so nicely and brought extra plates etc because they knew we were sharing. ambience was great too, we sat there for about an hour and had a nice dinner. would highly recommend.

Thali with (clockwise from top right) salad, samosa, rice, naan, braised eggplant/veggies, saag paneer, lamb.

We hadn't had Indian food in a while and Namaste was full, so we walked a bit more to Bombay Mahal. The location is fairly small, but there's a least 6 tables in the dining room. We got butter chicken with extra naan and a thali. The food hit the spot. The dishes were greasy and flavourful, perfect for rice and naan to soak up. The mango lassi we got was the only correct answer to the spiciness of the food. And it was cheap!! For 7.99$, you get a thali with two vegetable options and one meat option (I got lamb). These come with salad, a samosa, rice and two slabs of naan. The salad was a bit wilted, but who cares when everything will be mixed with creamy butter chicken! I do recommend choosing the thali instead of a "single dish" menu item. The butter chicken was at least 3$ more expensive than the thali, with less variety and smaller total amount of food. It was a quick and very satisfying meal! We'll be back for sure.

Great, reasonably priced Indian food. The staff is quite nice, depending on who is working, and the samosas are fantastic.

We do not recommend. Food is diluted, tasteless and they do not issue receipts but take only cash payment.

It's towards the top of Old Montreal so we had a nice walk to and from the restaurant. We were greeted by the host and sat down immediately. The restaurant inside was very pretty and had low lighting to make it look very intimate. I'd definitely consider Veranda a fine-dining Indian restaurant. We ordered the samosa tarts and malai chicken tikka from the appetizers and both were absolutely delicious! We also ordered mango lassi, butter chicken, and garlic naan (all automatic orders for us when we go to Indian restaurants) and none of them disappointed. However, we were a little disappointed that they didn't have a few menu items that we see back home or at other Indian restaurants like onion bhaji, pakora, biryani and tandoori chicken. The only complaint we had was the service wasn't that great. Our order was taken a few minutes after viewing the menu and the staff was very friendly but after we finished our appetizers, we felt neglected as other tables were served their food and we were waiting 25-30 minutes to get served our main dish. We had to let the server know that we were done our appetizers and ready for the main dish. I'm not sure if this is normal in Montreal or at Indian restaurants in Montreal? Other restaurants we were served our courses immediately one after the other, with maybe 5-10 minutes in between. It wasn't busy either for a Wednesday night where they only had 3-4 tables. Regardless, we would recommend Veranda to anyone craving Indian food who wants to eat in Old Montreal! The food is delicious!

Excellent meal and deserves 5 stars for the food, ambience and service!…read more Our server was amazing and explained the thali in detail! Highly recommend this place if you are vegan and are looking for health Indian meal choices! Everything on our plate was delish! The place slowly started getting crowded for lunch since thali is only offered during lunch! Turmeric milk was the best!!! Would visit again! Montreal's most magical dining experience!…read more If you're looking for a reason to book a trip to Montreal, let me give you one: Tula. My husband and I visited during a recent trip to the city, and without question, it was the best meal we had -- and honestly, one of the most memorable dining experiences of our lives. From the moment you walk through the door, the space wraps you in warmth. The atmosphere is inviting, the decor puts you instantly at ease, and the staff greet you with the kind of genuine kindness that's increasingly rare. But it's Abhi and Renata (apologies if I've misspelled either name!) who truly make this place something extraordinary. These two are the heart and soul of Tula, and their passion for what they do radiates through every single aspect of the experience. We spent a few wonderful hours there, and I mean that -- the time just melted away. Renata sang for the entire restaurant, and her voice was absolutely stunning, a spontaneous and beautiful gift to everyone in the room. Abhi, in the most generous gesture, sat down and hand-wrote a list of vegan restaurant recommendations from around the globe for us to take home. These are people who love what they do and love the people they do it for. And then there's the food. Oh, the food. We started with an Indian taco special that set the tone perfectly, then moved on to the Tofu Achari Masala curry with chapati and the Dal Sambar with steamed rice -- both absolutely spectacular. We finished with a special pistachio cake dessert that was the perfect, dreamy ending to the meal. Every single dish tasted like it was made with genuine love and intention, because it was. This is vegan Indian cuisine at its very finest. I left Tula feeling something I didn't quite expect: greater faith in humanity. That might sound dramatic, but if you go -- and you absolutely must go, as soon as possible -- I think you'll understand exactly what I mean. Don't wait. Just go.
