In town for a couple of days. Craving Indian food, and this place was around the corner from my Airbnb. First of all, let me say that these folks are SERIOUS ABOUT THAT LAMB VINDALOO. Before you order it, have a bucket of water standing by. Aside from that seriously delicious and seriously hot vindaloo, the chicken tikka masala was great, rice and nan terrific. I was puzzled by the channa samosas, though, because I thought samosas were a food you pick up and what I got was a big liquid mix of stuff, to be eaten with a fork or spoon. We hadn't had Indian food in a while and Namaste was full, so we walked a bit more to Bombay Mahal. The location is fairly small, but there's a least 6 tables in the dining room. We got butter chicken with extra naan and a thali. The food hit the spot. The dishes were greasy and flavourful, perfect for rice and naan to soak up. The mango lassi we got was the only correct answer to the spiciness of the food. And it was cheap!! For 7.99$, you get a thali with two vegetable options and one meat option (I got lamb). These come with salad, a samosa, rice and two slabs of naan. The salad was a bit wilted, but who cares when everything will be mixed with creamy butter chicken! I do recommend choosing the thali instead of a "single dish" menu item. The butter chicken was at least 3$ more expensive than the thali, with less variety and smaller total amount of food. It was a quick and very satisfying meal! We'll be back for sure. read more

Solid Indian Take-Out. While this is not my preferred Indian take-out spot on the Plateau, it *is my back-up. The thali is reasonably priced, and the selection of dishes is usually pretty fresh. Their samosas are also reliable. Definitely worth stopping by if you're in the neighbourhood and hankering for some curry. read more

Love this place! Cheap north-Indian thali. No need to venture out to Parc Ex. You can get it fresh right here in the Plateau! There are a few meat options (butter chicken, lamb, etc.), and a few veggie options (dhal, mix veg, palak paneer, channa masala, etc.) and it's all delicious. It comes with rice, chapatti, and samosa. They have loyalty cards - so stamp away! They used to have students discount, but that was discontinued for some reason :(. I usually pick up the food myself, so I can't speak for the delivery option. There's limited sitting there. The staff is friendly and the fragrances are sensational! They now accept credit cards - not only debit / cash. This is my go-to Indian take-out place. read more

Horrible service. This rating is solely based on the service you receive. Upon picking up a takeout order, I was told there's delivery service in my exact area. No extra fees included. Which made me happy since it's out of my way from work to home. So I place a delivery order by phone and the guy tells me there's a 'delivery fee' of $5.50!!! Not only is that fee preposterous, the guy literally laughed in my ear when asking about the fee. Needless to say I'll mention it to everyone I know. read more

Absolutely fantastic! We got take out and ordered a broad range of the menu. Everybody loved it and we all kept commenting on what a great place this is. Went here for the first time tonight (we got takeaway) and the food was delicious. The staff was friendly and very kind, and the young guy serving me suggested we get delivery next time to save us some hassle. I would definitely eat here again. My favourite dish was the veggie pakora - they were a little salty but quite good. Of note, when paying debit you are prompted to tip and are not given the option of zero tip - I don't usually tip when ordering takeaway so I feel this was a little unnecessary. read more

Positive: Conveniently located for urban lifestyle. In and out/plastic tray type dining room. Polite and friendly service. Fresh, flavorful food. I went for a late lunch and ordered a nice lamb saag 12$ with mango lassi (juice) 3$ and was delighted by the taste. It was spicy enough to be truly satisfying, but not so much as to make one's digestion upset. Worth improving: The mandatory steamed rice does not come with the dish, it's a whopping 3$ extra each for a small handful and I had to have 2 portions to make a full dish. The lamb saag went cold by the time I got the 2nd portion. This way of proceeding is popping up elsewhere and it must be clear that it is nothing short of a scam. Serve a properly accompanied dish with the real price to your costumer, they will grant you their loyalty for it ! Rice is not a side dish, it's the base starch, and it doesn't cost the price you are charging for it, so that part of the experience is putting the authenticity of your cuisine to shame, really. Also the lassi was offered with deliberate confusion on the price, again. These are a huge NO-NO is service business, because most people won't tell you when they know you stiffed them, they just won't come back. The bill: Although it was a nice dish, the experience was not so well meaning and turned out ridiculously expensive for what it was. Warning: HOT HOT HOT! Had takeout chicken biryani last night and it burned my south asian khatta desi garam masala conditioned stomach. My sister and other desi friends love the overbearing spice effect though. For me, I'm a flavour and balance person and I thought the hot aspect strongly overshadowed any other flavour spectrum of the biryani. Great of you are a fan of super hot desi food. I've been going to the Jean Talon location for close to a decade and have always loved their food. I was pretty excited to hear that an express version was opening near where I live. Sadly, I've experienced nothing but unapologetically slow service at the St. Laurent location ever since. This evening my wife and I waited 45 just to place our order after multiple unanswered calls and a handful of times left on hold for minutes on end. When we finally got through and placed the order we were assured that it would arrive in 45 minutes. It was nearly an hour and half before the doorbell rang. It pains me to write such a negative review of a place whose food I love, but the service at the St Laurent location is just pathetic. It should never take over 2 hours to receive a small order from any restaurant with "express" in their name. read more

We ordered delivery when we were too lazy to head to Little India for some good Indian food. Prices were fine and the food was great. It did take about an hour to show up so in the future I'd probably be sure to call well ahead of time. Really good samosas, delicious lamb madras and the butter chicken was nice too. Also went to their location to eat in but as there was a street fair we couldn't get a Thali plate but got some nice containers with chicken biryani, butter chicken, samosas again and good mango lassi. This was a terrible experience. We ordered almost 30$ worth of food over Skip the Dishes and a lady called a half hour later saying that there was not enough money (I had never experienced something like that) and that we had to "call Skip the Dishes" before they would send our food. Absolutely ridiculous! We finally arrived at a deal where we would pay the driver the missing amount in cash. All in all it took over an hour for our food to arrive -- cold and not that tasty. This place is a must avoid, especially if you are planning on using any kind of technology to order. read more

I'm visiting from out of town and read that Bombay Mahal was one of the places to try if I was interested in getting Indian cuisine. I went through the menu online menu to get delivered since it was just one of those nights where I wanted it to be stress free. Once I called an mentioned I wanted delivery, he immediately said "can I call you back in 2 minutes?", which was fine since it was around dinner time so it was understandable if they were busy. Continuing on, I had asked for the naan in one of the orders to replace the naan with rice and there seemed to be a big confusion. He kept saying a side of rice, while keeping the naan in the order. After a while, the issue finally got resolved. The total amount was what threw me off. We ordered two items on the menu, one being $15.99 and the other being $17.99, which should add up to around $34.00, with tax it should be no more than $40. Our total came close to $48, assuming they had already add on delivery tips, etc. When the order was delivered to us, we did not receive a receipt with the prices of the orders and was told the order did not come with the extra delivery charges, expecting us to provide tip on top of the price they quoted us. I know we should't have had to pay anymore extra since we knew our calculations were right but like I said, it threw us off. Anyways. I would most likely never order from here again. The person on the phone was not the most polite and service provided to us was lower than standard I felt. Food itself was mediocre. Also to note, they don't take anything other than cash. read more
