Heard this was a popular place in town. Order red takeout. Took almost an hour for chicken 65, butter chicken, and chaat. The butter chicken could've been better if it didn't taste sweet. Chaat wasn't bad. Not a huge fan of the to go foam containers. Overall, average experience. They did have a big tv playing Bollywood music videos which was a nice part of the ambiance.

Bombay Kitchen is one of our favorite restaurants in Toledo, and beyond. The owner, Rita, is so sweet and helpful, as well. If you like good Indian food, this is the place!

Today, I decided to visit Bombay Kitchen. This was an absolutely fantastic experience! I ordered the Aloo Samosas, Aloo Mattar, and a side of Paratha. The staff was very friendly, and extremely helpful. The food was absolutely out of this world! There are a good number of vegan options available. I will definitely be back!

Food was so good I went into labor afterwards! (Not a joke- I actually went into labor that night) Went here last week with my husband and friends for the first time and loved it. I was hoping the spice level on the "hot" tikka masala would have been spicier but it was still really good. We also tried the panini which I didn't get a picture of but it was delicious with the chicken 65 sauce. Naan was phenomenal, best I've had around Toledo. Owner and staff were all really nice. Also really appreciate how everything on the menu is halal, this is definitely my new favorite Indian spot!

That's me. So I checked the menu about 20 times before meeting my girl for lunch. Decided on the mixed grill. Asked the server for suggestions. All she suggested was the curries. Asked about apps and if any bread/naan comes with meal. Nope she says. No help on the apps. I ordered pakoras and got garlic naan since she says no. So she brings something I assume was the garlic naan. Found out it regular naan that comes before the meal. The pakoras tasted like air. No flavor whatsoever. Got my mixed grill. It couldn't have been cooked that day. It was so dry and my medium spicy sauce had less spice than bbq. Tasted my girls chicken curry(mild spicy) and it tasted the same as mine. How does that happen? I tried a few bites with some rice n Im done. Took it home for the man and he took a few nibbles n threw it out except the naan. I didn't taste the naan because I thought that's what came out first. Ugh. Either I needed a different server or a different Indian place. I would totally go back n try something else. With some guidance. There's several other Indian spots in town which are a little more $$ but I think I will try one of those

So, starving, we went here super last minute, and they were super accommodating even though they were packed! The man at the door took our order fast and got us a seat once someone left. While we waited for a seat, we checked out the picture books of India, which kept us entertained and set a vibe. The food was incredible, too! I love peshwari naan and find it difficult to find sometimes, so I'm so glad they had it and as for the rest of the meal, we had the aloo gobi masala, and vegetarian platter, and all I can say is YUM! Would recommend for the service and food alone, but the atmosphere was welcoming and cozy and made our dining experience really nice, too.

It appears that the recipes are a little different now. I ordered chicken korma, very spicy, and it was just OK. The chicken chunks are a lot bigger now. Bigger chunks take more time to cook, making the chicken very dry. The veggies and sauce are also different. The dish was more mild than spicy. I remember a lot of Chinese restaurants doing this. I guess the chefs are trying to protect us from ourselves... My dining partners ordered chicken tikka masala and had the same comments. One other person ordered the mixed grill (tandoori grill???) and again, everything was really overcooked and dry. There was no wine or beer available. We asked if we could bring in either and were told, "no." They were very polite about it, but this is not illegal in Ohio, at least, the attorney we were dining with said it was perfectly legal to do this. I know I've dined in establishments where there was no liquor, beer or wine available and patrons were allowed to bring in their own. Casa Que Pasa in Athens, Ohio, comes to mind, but that was a loooooong time ago and, for some reason, my memories of meals there are kind of foggy anyway :). The restaurant does have the right to charge a "corkage fee" if they desire. Anyway, not sure wine would be my preference for Indian food, but beer!!! Nothing goes better with hot, spicy food than a beer that's indigenous to that country (Taj Mahal or Kingfisher!!!). Of course, the kitchen needs to get the spice lever right. For an appetizer, we did order some vegetable pakoras and they were really great. I believe we also ordered some onion kulcha too and that was great. Anyway, not the worst I've had, but not what was being offered at the Airport location. The place is young and there are probably some things to work out. I'll definitely try this again.

(BTW, I'm not sure what happened to the Taiwanese place next door, but they've been closed for a few weeks now. I'm still trying to figure out if it's temporary or permanent) Anyone who's dined out enough times in Toledo will more likely tell you Toledo weirdly -- I use the term affectionately -- has very good Mediterranean/Middle-Eastern cuisine. You get a wide variety of them, too, such as those of mom-n-pop markets that offer lunch menus, and you also get the nice, family-style sit-down restaurants too. Most of them are very good. Al Nur falls into the former category. What's interesting about them is that their grocery consist of Middle-Eastern, Pakistani and Indian items. And let me tell you, most of their items are VERY well-priced. I don't have much experience with Middle-Eastern groceries so I can't say much about them, but I'm certainly going to try them out (probably with my coworker's help) next time I'm in need of some ethnic groceries. First visit, I ordered their "mixed grill" lunch, which is their version of the kebab combo plate. Came with 3 different skewers of meat over bed of rice and a side salad. Chicken Tawook and (lamb, I believe) shawarma were excellent. Taste I was definitely widely used to. Beef kafta however, I have to mention, had a slightly different spice/seasoning to it. It reminded me of the taste of an Iraqi restaurant I visited in D.C. a few years ago. It was a place my family and my wife's sister's family tried, and I remember my wife was slightly put off by the very strong spice aroma the restaurant had. In my own experience, "Middle-Eastern" labeled places seem to have slightly stronger aroma than those that are labeled "Mediterranean." A quick research will show that it may be because of the availability and usage of different ingredients of spices in different regions. I have the privilege of working/having worked with people of different ethnic background, and I love consulting them about similarities and differences between them. This particular coworker who was born in Pakistan, but had many years of growing up in Kuwait, where his father worked, tells me beef at Al Nur reminds him of what he calls "authentic" Middle-Eastern food from his childhood. Of course, you'll find regions in the States where Middle-Easterners segregate, where you'll have access to their authenticity, but it's certainly not something that's viewed as widely available, IMO. I can tell you right now that it's not going to be for everyone, just like strong-spiced Indian/Pakistani food aren't. But those of us who have the palate for them, I think it's a treat that we now have another Middle-Eastern option in Al Nur. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go pick me up a couple sandwiches for dinner. I've been salivating for them this whole time I was writing about them.
