Mysore Masala Dosa

Y'all check out this place for a great Indian meal! It's connected to their Indian grocery store so their claim to only use the freshest ingredients is pretty accurate judging from how great everything tastes. Super sweet service from the young lady, whom I guess is the owner. I'm not a vegetarian but sure do enjoy eating a nice, fresh vegetarian meal. It's the first time I've ever ordered dosa and man, I loved it. The Paneer Tika Masala was awesome too! It's very rare that I'm in Ocala unfortunately but I'll be sure to plan any future trips around hitting Ocala at a good time.

I'm from out of town and I was craving some really good chaats and dosas! So I came across Bombay Cafe which is located inside of a grocery store and at first I was a little skeptical but I was mind blown. The customer service was so friendly and nice! Came here with my niece and my niece loved the ambiance. Customer service was a 10/10 btw! They were so nice when we asked for more Papar and menus haha! I ordered their masala dosa platter which came with their Idli, which I had for the first time and I was delicious. It's like a corn cake with half the calories haha! Delicious. Then it came with a dokla like donut which was savory and flaky and delicious! The 3 chutneys included the mint and coconut chutney which were good but I'm not a fan of the coconut but it still hit the spot. The dosa itself was better than I've had in the past and I gave it a thumbs up. Delicious flaky rice pancake with savory tangy potatoes stuffed inside! I was in heaven! But the Vada pav? First time having that too! A potato bun inside of a slider bun with crispy puri and butters bun! Served with chutneys. Delicious! Outstanding! Everything was perfect.!

If you are a vegetarian and enjoy good Indian food this is the place to come. We started with coffee, masala tea and ginger tea, both were wonderful. The waitress brought us a bowl of chips and a very nice dipping sauce that was really good. I had the Bombay famous dosa. It was really good came with a spicy tomato sauce and coconut sauce, and a cilantro sauce, all used to dip the sandwich in. Also a nice soup with just a touch of curry was also on the platter. Another we had was aloo mutter and it was really good and also had a little curry taste. We got the cheese naan bread. Overall, really outstanding flavor and we were asked what spice level so we were not surprised when it came. The price is very fair for the amount of food you get. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone not wanting meat with your dinner.

A strip center behind a McDonalds. This is at the right of the strip center and the rest of it is a huge Indian grocery store. Please note that this is vegetarian Indian food with no meat options. Having said that, oh my it was good. I recommend the cheese option. It resembles tofu but with a much better consistency and flavor. I ordered medium spice and it was just right. The heat builds and warms but does not burn. We got a tikka masala and a koftka entree. I could just have the nan bread and the gravy. The portions are big and the service was amazing. After you are done, browse the grocery store for some amazing finds including UK foods and drink like Cadbury and Ribena.

Food was magnificent! Our first time trying Indian and we will be back. Normally we are steak and potatoes kind of people, but we enjoyed everything we ordered ! If you want a nice quiet quaint place to dine with amazing food check this place out. Service was excellent. Small mom and pop business!

Each and every time I've dined at Amrit it has been an experience I'm grateful for. The service is…read morealways wonderful and the food just as good. The atmosphere is beautiful and I always feel like I have walked into a different kind dining experience. It's relaxing and a lot nicer than many of the local restaurants around here. I feel that it has a quiet nuanced feel that is simply elegant. I ordered the Create your own course because I wanted more. I was in time for the lunch special that they serve Tuesday-Thursday from 11-3 but that wasn't what I was looking for. When coming here I just wanted to enjoy my idea of the meal I can create. The create your own course is just that and for $40.99 you receive an "appetizer, entree, dessert served with two sides, naan or tandoori roti and sauce. If you would like an additional entree and two sides it's only an additional $16.99. Extremely reasonable for the amount of food you receive and how well the food is prepared and the service you get here. My favorite is the Chicken Vindaloo which is Chicken, chili, tomato and it has a little coconut in it. It's a spicy dish but a little tangy too. I love that the heat is flavorful and not overpowering that you cannot taste all the spices in the dish. The tandoori roti I enjoy thoroughly it pairs very well with this dish, I've had the Peshawari naan which is filled with cherries, coconut flakes, cashews and raisins and this is so different and delicious more of a dessert you must try too. I also had the chick pea salad and this is a mix of chick peas, lettuce, red onion, cherry tomatoes and cilantro. Nothing out of this world but refreshing. Last time I was here I had the Samosa Chaat for a starter it was so good! It's a potato turnover with chickpeas layered with chopped onions, yogurt, tamarind, mint chutney, and so flavorful! The Dal soup is also very nice it's a smooth mild soup made with yellow split pea lentils, some ginger and just the right amount of garlic. So many choices here and I'll keep coming back so I can be sure to try everything in the menu at least a few times! I have had dessert and I really enjoyed this as well wanting to try something different than I can get in most restaurants so I tried the Gulab Jamun that is a deep fried dumpling soaked in a sweet syrup that is infused with rose water and coconut. I don't know what to expect but I absolutely loved this and it wasn't as sweet as I thought it might be it was very pleasant and a mild flavor but truly delicious! Other than the food , the service is always really nice here, it's just a very nice experience coming to Amrit you feel lot's of peace and tranquility while dining. Highly recommend visiting Amrit you will not be disappointed! I went for the lunch buffet which had 4 vegetarian options, 4 non vegetarian options, an appetizer, rice, naan and a dessert. It's the perfect way to try their sauces, which do not disappoint. I might agree with the other reviewer about the buffet price. It's a little high at $17.98 to come more often than not and could use some more offerings at that price - like Raita, tamarind sauce, etc. The regular menu is extensive and there's plenty of seating both inside and outside. It's at the left end of the shopping plaza and has a lovely outside seating area which I wasn't expecting. The entrance is also welcoming with fishtail palms swaying in the wind. I wish them much success. It's a winner in my book! Maybe this is the start of more interesting restaurants opening here aside from the horrid Suleiman and FMK monopolies found inside of the bubble.

Update 10 September 2026: This was our second visit to the…read moreBombay Bistro. The restaurant has made considerable changes and improvements since our first visit last year. Serving plates are of permanent material and metallic eating utensils are provided. It was a warm day, but the atmosphere inside was cool and fresh. There was one person receiving and serving customers; he was most friendly and helpful (we were surprised when he mentioned it was nice to see us again; I guess he remembered our visit from last year). Shortly after we were seated, the server brought out a basket of freshly prepared naan-bread. Our previous visit we ordered from the buffet, this time we ordered off the menu. From the menu we ordered a Mango Lassi, hot tea, Aloo Paratha, Chicken Tikka, Goat Curry, a House Green Salad, Raita, and Mango Chutney. (We observed on the way into the restaurant that the buffet service area has been relocated up to the front of the restaurant and it offered more choices than it did on our previous visit). The waiter did caution the table that the Chicken Tikka (from the Tandoori section of the menu) might be dry for our tastes, and he recommended a version with a sauce; we went against his advice and ordered the un-sauced Chicken Tikka. We also chose spice level 4 of 5 for the Goat Curry. I wanted to be able to recreate previously enjoyable goat curry meals (that I had experienced in a restaurant in Maryland), so I needed the lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers that come on the House Green Salad. Well, the server was correct: we should have ordered the sauced version of the Chicken Tikka (rather than Chicken Tikka from the Tandoori section of the menu) - we felt the chicken we received was low on flavor and highly dried out. OK, live and learn, next time we listen to advice :). I thought the goat curry was ideal, nice and spicy by not too spicy - it combined well with the Basmati rice and salad components plus the Raita. The sauce in which the goat was cooked was superlative. I guess our only other dissatisfaction, aside from our unwise choice of going against server's advice, was with the Aloo Paratha (potato stuffed bread); it seemed damp on one side and we felt is seemed more like it was fried instead of cooked in a Tandoor. The Goat curry was very good, maybe even too good in quality - only one bone in the entire dish (I was accustomed to sucking meat off from half a dozen or more bone pieces when I ate this dish in Maryland; this seemed too easy!). The Basmati rice was ideal. Had my first Chai tea: it was surprisingly good ( I had ignorantly been expecting plain black tea from a teabag, this was an entire creation!) Overall our impression was the restaurant is good, we received way too much to eat for two people, but eating at the Bombay Bistro is an experience we are eager to repeat.

Parking in the nearby free…read moregarage was perfect timing since many workers and patients of the nearby UF medical center had already left for the day. Only one other couple was dining in, and there were a lot of take out orders being picked up. The place was well-lit, clean, and had ample space. We were greeted and seated almost immediately. Scout was our waitress and Deepak was the host. Menu has all the Indian cuisine staples that we expected - we ordered 3 orders of garlic naan, fried rice with veggies and egg, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi (potato & cauliflower side dish ) - all with medium spiciness - with mango lassi and masala Chai tea for drinks. While waiting for our orders, we washed our hands and the single-occupancy restrooms were clean and stocked. The only downside to the facilities in general are the slightly hard chairs / benches as these were possibly made with the intention of not spending too much time in the restaurant or for people with more natural padding in that area . The naan arrived about 10 minutes later, followed by the rest of the food. The naan was excellent - just the way we like it (not too soft, not too crunchy, with enough garlic oil for taste). The basmati rice was cooked just right in the individual bowls and also in the generous portion of the fried rice. It was my first time trying the aloo gobi, and I loved it! I never knew about this dish, and my husband said it was a must try. I also tasted his chicken tikka masala, and it was also made deliciously. The drinks were also great - mango lassi was fresh and not too sweet. Masala Chai tea was exactly how I imagined it would be. Overall, we spent around 1 hour and about $100 on our date here, including generous tip. We are glad to be repeat customers to try more dishes, and of course, enjoy more garlic naan .

It was highly recommended to me by a lot of my Gainesville friends, so I finally went to compare it with Indian Cuisine, Amrit Palace, and Indian Aroma. I can confidently say it's either slightly better, or on par, with Indian Aroma, and significantly better than Amrit/Cuisine. Only slightly better because the array of food you can get here is larger and a bit cheaper, but I do think Indian Aroma's butter chicken is still the best I've ever had. I got the varutharacha chicken curry combo, and it felt like an absolute steal for the amount of food and the price. My entire friend group went non-verbal as we chowed down into our dosas and food, and while I've never had varutharacha curry before, the flavor and savoriness blew my mind. The samosa was thick, crunchy, and filled with delicious veggie interior, and the chicken was soft, juicy, and slid right off the bone. The dosas were crisp, and paired excellently with their sauces. We ripped, we shredded, we came, we conquered, we devoured. The food coma after eating everything was so, so worth it. Service was great, and we were kindly greeted by two workers at the front who got us drinks fast and took our orders as soon as we were ready. They were very friendly, and as the front desk is semi-facing the restaurant, we could catch either of their eye whenever we wanted or needed something and they'd come right over. Overall, love this place, and will be back to try so much more.
