This is a place that is trying to be 3 types of restaurants all at once. It doesn't quite work, they need to pick a lane. The food all comes out of a "pizza kitchen". It's serviceable, very average pizza and sandwiches. To make it a "grille" they have some legit meals on the menu but it is still prepared by people working in the pizza kitchen. Most of the inside orders are taken at the walk up counter by young kids and entered directly into the POS system. The other orders come from the bar. If you sit at the bar, the bartender enters and serves your order. No table service. Bar is 10 ft from the ordering counter so you still have the pizza place vibe even at the bar. I try to sit with my back to the ordering counter to improve the vibe. Good local beer on draft, nice! There is live music on occasion but that set up is a different 10 feet from the bright order counter. There is also a section where you can eat your dinner- tables and chairs- separate from bar. This townie pizza joint has had many iterations over the years as the owners love to keep changing the name and tacky decor, but they never improve on the one thing that is important in getting folks to visit...the food! Service is as slow as a glacier as the staff is solely dedicated to managing their TikTok scroll. Mind you, I am very forgiving of food service workers as the job is actually very taxing, but please, all I'm asking for is simple eye contact and a rudimentary knowledge of the menu. My friend and I ordered beers and a cheese pie. Beer was a good poor, can't ruin that, but pizza, we thought we would use the crust as snow shoes during this awful storm to get outa there. I've yet to have a positive experience when ordering food from this restaurant! The majority of the staff are rude and always playing on their phones, I understand they are young and still kids but there's seriously zero professionalism. Three times I've ordered from here and only once was my order made correctly. Forget ever speaking with a manager after a terrible experience. I've tried and was out right refused even a name for the manager or a way to contact them. I asked them to please take my name and number since no manager was there supposedly. Well the minute I started walking away they through the paper with my information and why I was asking for someone to contacting me right into the trash while giggling. They did a great remodel on this a few years back. Bill's used to be a really run-down divey place to grab a pizza/sub from. Since the remodel it's much nicer and has more food offerings including pizzas, subs, salads, calzones, paninis, and a bar. Their pizzas are pretty good and I just tried one of their calzones recently. It was good, but not your typical calzone, almost more like stuffed cheesy bread. Not sure what is happening in Hopkinton, but this place similar to other establishments in this town is not that great. Its maybe a slim step up from the other pizza place down the street that is terrible, not much of a difference since this place is not that great. Great place to go if ur on a low carb diet and want a sub. Because you will pay $11 for a sandwich that has basically nothing on it, and your only choice will be to take all the toppings off one half and put them on the other half of the sub. Bills have been a refreshing pizzeria here in Hopkinton Massachusetts. I should know I've been here for over 40 years.

The kind strong looking young man up front gave me my food and promised it was made with love. Good god did he deliver.

They have a big menu which is good because their pizza is pretty bad. We have two small kids so we are here frequently for school and sports celebrations. It is really the only option downtown for events this size. It is always crowded but we've never had to wait for a table. I like their spinach salad with grilled chicken. It is massive. The hot subs are also delicious with really good, crispy bread. The kids love their chicken fingers and fries. I actually also like their fries. Most of the staff are local high school kids but they are always friendly and I can't remember them ever messing up an order. OK, now the pizza... I have been striving to find really good pizza in the area since we moved here 4 years ago. Bill's doesn't make the grade. The crust is just awful. You notice it from the very first bite. The sauce, toppings and cheese are average but the crust just makes you wish you went for the chicken parm sub. They have a relatively new bar area over to the side so you can sneak over for a shot and a brew while your kid's Little League team is celebrating their "Participation" medals on the other side. We live nearby and Bill's is always our go-to when we don't feel like cooking. They PILE toppings into all meals (the buffalo chicken pizza is like a two meals in one in terms of the amount of chicken you get!) and they are always quick to get an order up. CONFISCATE THE COOK'S SALT SHAKER IMMEDIATELY. I used to come here regularly when I worked in the neighborhood. I haven't been here in a couple years. Their steak and cheese used to be pretty good. This one was mediocre at best and had way too much salt on it. I don't put salt on anything. My suggestion to every restaurant on the planet is do not put more than a pinch of salt in anything. If I want salt, there's a Shaker on the table. But I can't pry out what your cook dumps on to an otherwise serviceable meal. I am not on a sodium restricted diet, but a lot of people are. And those people would never come back after a sandwich like this. ((An edit a few days later...)) Zach: I'm glad to see that you are paying attention to reviews, and I'm glad you took the time to respond. But I am afraid you are missing my point. My point is that you and other restaurants should be far more careful with the salt as a general rule. Some is okay. Sometimes it's actually required for the chemical reactions going on during the cooking process. But too much is a real problem. And again, I can't remove the salt that's been dumped into something that's cooked by somebody else. But I can always add my own. So again, my recommendation to you and other restaurants is to go light on the salt. For all of the reasons outlined above. What your response tells me is that you are placing the responsibility on me to ask you guys not to overdo it with the salt. And that's just not right. I'm not averse to salt, I just don't like a ton of it. Your response tells me that you are not open to the idea of changing how you prepare your food.
