Had the misfortune of a friend showing up with Steve's food as his contribution to the evening. A little background, I live near the place and have given it 4 tries in the last 20 years. Every single one was a fail. BUT......the times I have been inside have almost balanced it out just from having the privilege of observing the shitshow. Anyhow, friend shows up with this and it's just as bad as previously remembered. At least I could skip the customer service portion. I recommend you drive 30 seconds further north to get decent pizza. I hear their subs are ok but I don't want to gamble on it. Simply put, I wouldn't wipe my feet on this stuff. read more

Ill start by pay attention to their fake "old school" phone.. (which by the way I loved the thought of it, even after they F'd up, because you know, I love old school.). Anyway, I called and ordered a lg chicken salad sub with lettuce, tomato, toasted and a lg stk&cheese, extra cheese, mushrooms, light peppers, onions and mayo, toasted.... I was so hungry after working all day, overtime in fact, and decided after 15 min, I wanted onion rings... so I called back to order them. The response I got was, "oh I'm glad you called back because we don't have any chicken salad left". I asked why they didn't call me to tell me.. THEY CLAIM, they can't see your number because the number is gone wnd they don't have caller ID. Which I STILL wasn't knocking them for it, (because again, I'm old school and can appreciate it.) Well I got home and the "change sub" because they didn't have chicken salad, didnt have extra cheese, no mayo, no peppers, no mushrooms, no onions.. no real biggie, but kinda is.. so before I could even ask, they put "STEVE" on the phone. He told me I was ridiculous and I asked him, if he was going to listen.. he told me to "fuckoff" and hung up on me!! Steve is a business owner! There is no food good enough (not saying they have horrible food, but it's SURELY not the best) that makes it ok to treat a buying customer this way!! STEVE HUNG UP ON ME!! you can bet your bottom dollar, I drover BACK there and told them I want my money back! Which was given to me without hesitation after the clerk (definitely on drugs) yelled and swore at me!! UNACCEPTABLE! I could've handled the mistake, we are human. I have been customer service since 14 years old.. and either you have it or you don't. As a business owner, the customer is always right, even when you don't agree 100%. Classic Worcester take-out pizza. I personally think it has the best pizza around, but most people rave about the subs. The fish and chips are also good, but you need to reserve ahead on Fridays. (Steve's is actually located in West Boylston, a few hundred feet from the famous O'Connor's Irish pub and restaurant.) The nearby Route 190 on/off ramp brings you almost directly to Steve's front door. read more

Come here for the pizza, do not stay for the service. We came here and ordered a couple of pizzas for dinner. The person on the phone was rude and when we finished ordering, they told us the pickup time and just hung up - no anything else, no see you then, tell your family I said hello...nothing. When we arrived, same gruff demeanor. So weird to be this way in a people serving business, but whatever. On to the pizzas. The pizzas were totally fine, not the best ever, but not the worst. The pizzas completely did the job required and all of the kiddos at home seemed pleased and the adults munched away as well. read more

Inside of shop is lacking, dim lit and sad. Sad just like the lack of appropriate employee behavior. Horrible pizza. The sauce tastes like someone went to the supermarket a bought a jar of Ragu™. The cheese is flavorless and what veggies are placed on the pie are stale. The whole pie was undercooked and gave me the impression that it was a frozen pizza that was removed from the oven too soon. The pizza I got on "pizza day" in high school is better than this pizza. The subs are not that impressive. Then there's the staff. Almost without exception, they had rather large chips on their shoulders. Also, they really need to refrain from using the F-bomb as a comma. This is not based on one visit. I've worked in West Boylston since 1994 and have lived there since 2011. The men who work here (for the most part) are jerks, I'll never understand how they survive. Pizza is greek (and decent for greek pizza if thats your thing) and the subs are big but I'll never understand why they are consistently just jerks to people. We would probably order from them more but no one wants to give them our money anymore. I was walking through the parking lot to head inside two days ago and a woman walking out was yelling about how she'll never go in there again and give them her money. Very obvious that looks is not a priority For a business. It's not the cleanest place. Dull, dingy atmospher. The Cash register is filthy Which your made fully aware of because you need to lean over the trash can to pay for your food. The food has always been good here & they give you plenty, but they could clean up the place. Most people are friendly & welcoming but there is one older guy who' s personality makes you feel like your putting him out & he can't wait for you to leave. I will think twice before going back. I've had him before & for what customers pay we shouldn't be subject to negative employees. I know there are idiots out there that everyone has to deal with but a smiles goes a long way. read more

I have been a customer of Steve's for decades. The food is constantly great. The portions are large. Today I had a pastrami sub. It was very lean and cooked perfectly. The price was reasonable. My favorites are their meatball pizza and subs. Their fish and chips are excellent. Please note that I have to drive half an hour to get there. Please try them. You won't be disappointed. read more

Ordered 2 pizzas for pickup last night. When ordering I asked how many slices in a pie, I was told 6, so I ordered two pies. The pizzas are a little larger than a personal pizza cut into 8, not 6, small slices. The vodka pizza was slightly better than the regular pizza, which tasted like sauce from a jar. Way to upsell! Almost $40 for 2 pizzas, and very overpriced for the quality. Needless to say, we won't be ordering again. read more

The subs are delicious and HUGE! Definitely worth the price for the amount of food you get. My go-to order is the chicken cutlet and I have yet to find a better one than Steve's from any of the different sub/pizza shops I've been to over the years. Love Steve's I drive 20 minutes to get the fish and chips which is always plentiful and delicious. I even like the coleslaw which isn't overly vinegary which is a plus. My son enjoyed a steak and cheese sub which is loaded. The rough edges of the workers add to the ambience. It's no frills and a neighborhood joint that makes great food with outstanding portions. My wife just returned from Steve's practically in shock. She stopped in to order a sandwich after a doctor's appointment. I might add she passed no less than 12 other restaurants and take-out places on Rt 12 on her way there. Upon entering, she was "greeted" by two men behind the counter; glowering with their arms folded across their chests. They must be super-busy to just be standing guard there. Anyway, she asked for a "small BLT." She was told she couldn't have one. She brushed this off as a lame joke. She decided to play along and asked "Why?" He replied that the price of bacon had gone waaay up and that he'd probably have to charge her "$25" Still thinking this was all a stupid comedy routine, she turned around and started to leave, fully expecting him to say, "Wait! I was KIDDING! Do you want it toasted?" or something. No one said anything--no "sorry about that" or "can I make you something else?" not even "Goodbye!" So she left. I've been going to Steve's for as long as I can remember. Seriously, one of my earliest childhood memories is getting food from Steve's as a young kid, in their old location, my Dad shooting the shit with the guys behind the counter while I looked up, hoping we were getting an antipasto to go with the pizza. Some of the same guys still work at Steve's, and no- they aren't warm and fuzzy and that's ok. It's kind of their thing. One reviewer wrote that they were New England's version of the Soup Nazi and I cracked up. I can see how people could feel that way, but I grew up experiencing Steve's and I wouldn't have it any other way. Luckily I know enough of the people behind the counter that I typically get a head nod and occasionally even called by name. So, the food... I am pretty loyal to my Italian grinders and typically don't stray away from them, except maybe for a steak and cheese. There is So. Much. Meat. in these grinders. It's insane. The salads are great too- we get them frequently as well and their house dressing is amazing. I never get pasta and meatballs/sausage from there, but my son does and he loves it and the pizza... I'm not going to lie... not my favorite thing to order from Steve's, but for me Steve's is all about the grinders and salads. Order extra cheese on your pizza and you won't be upset- they take the word "extra" to heart. Oh- I don't eat seafood but they are famous for their fish and chips on Fridays. Recently my cousin had a baby- she lives about an hour away from me, and when I was going to visit her and see the new baby I asked her what I could bring.
