I found this salon through Groupon and my hair cut, wash, blow dry, and styling was $46 (w/o tip)! Allie was my hair stylist and she did great. Friendly and warm. She asked about my day, New Years, and always checked in about how I was feeling about the length of my cut. She answered questions I had about my hair maintenance and hair dyeing. The whole cut was fast too - I had super long hair (down mid back) and we took off 3-4 inches and she only took 35 minutes. If I had to pay full price I don't think I'd return because I'm a student but for the Groupon deal, it was totally worth it! The only critique I have is the cleanliness of the salon. I had the worst experience of my life at this Salon. I have not left a yelp review till now, I am new to Pasadena, so I read the reviews, and opted for Bokaos. So called them 3 weeks ago to book an apt , as Has( the owner) has been given good reviews, I had to wait 3 weeks to book an apt coz Has was off . They called me a week ago if I can postpone my apt from 3 to 4 pm , I said yes. They called me 2 days before my apt saying that they have to reschedule coz I had booked for hair colour and cut , the time would not be enough. I said I will not be able to find another time because I am will be busy from next week, Has does not work on weekends. So they said they would discuss with Has and call me back . They now call me asked me to come at 2.30 instead , I said ok ( I am a physician and it's a light day on this Friday 2/25/23 When I showed up for the apt , D( Has's assistant) talks to me regarding what I want etc. I asked if it's going to be Has , doing my hair ? She said absolutely, yes. When I went upstairs, the robes were dirty. Has comes and asks how much hair do you wanna cut ? I showed her and she chops it and leaves D and another assistant does the hair colour, another assistant washes my hair. There was dye left on my face , no one bothers to clean it , I still have the marks on my face. Has comes in does the haircut and leaves. The assistant does the hair conditioning and washes my hair And 2 assistants and Has( she was only in the beginning 5 min) get ready to blow dry. I said I don't want blow dry . Has said I need to get it coz she needs to adjust the cut at the end . When all of them did at once I felt like my hair was pulled and I could smell my hair burning . I asked them to stop and payed the bill . And it was 488$. I came home disappointed, had severe headache all night , my ear is red and burning from the heat of the blow dry, the dye on my face and my ears and the cut which is below average...... hello! i am not really the type of person to write reviews about places but after getting my hair done here i feel as though i need to. i was initially going in to get my blonde hair retouched with the stylist NICOLE. she said she did not usually do those types of services but she would try to for me which i was grateful for. fast forward to me getting my hair done she was saying how my hair was having a hard time lifting and that i would need to schedule another session within a couple days ( i went in friday and we scheduled for the following monday ). i paid $200 for a prelighten and tone on friday and was assuming that my next appointment would not be charged as though this was initially the work she was finishing that was left undone on friday. keep in mind im a boy and my hair is fairly short. she had also recommended we cut half an inch of my hair to get rid of the dry dead hair which i was totally up for. she never told me how much of an additional cost this tiny haircut would be keep in mind. anyways my session on monday when i came back was super quick about an hour or so nothing to major and to my surprise when my session ended i was charged another $200 for the session of a prelighten and tone. then to top it off they had charged me $85 for a haircut that literally only took a couple minutes and she didn't really cut my hair but just do a trim. i could have gone to a better hair salon and gotten a way better haircut for the price of $85 which is absolutely insane to me. in total i spent $485 to initially just get my blonde hair retouched and a small minor haircut. i would understand if she was bleaching my hair from original black to blonde but my hair has been blonde prior to this appointment and i was just getting a touch up. nicole never told me about any pricing or even mentioned it at all throughout my appointments which is something that should be initially discussed before any work is done. it is crazy to me how my hair cost $485 when first of all there wasn't a lot of hair to work with since i am a guy and have fairly short hair i would understand if it was a girl with long hair. i would highly advise anyone who has thoughts about going to this salon to rethink their decision and go somewhere else. i literally feel as though i was scammed. i talked to my coworkers about how much they had charged for my hair and they were all baffled and basically said i was overcharged. i really hope whoever is reading this takes my word and does not come here!! i really was debating about writing this review because i hate being that type of person but i really want to warn people. never coming here again !! read more

I LOVE my hair again! Like so many during Covid, I hadn't been to a salon in over a year. I lost track of my former stylist and was searching for a new, long-term relationship. I'd gone to Bokaos Aveda years ago, and always thought the salon was beautiful. I made an appointment with Suzi and started thinking of what I wanted to get done. My hair was way too long, had no shape, and was pretty badly damaged. Suzi and I talked about what I was hoping for, and then she went at it. She started by chopping off about 8" of damaged ends (with my full permission). Gulp. Then she proceeded to give me the best cut I've ever had. Seriously. She really took the time to get it right. My hair is bouncy and sexy and has movement again and I LOVE IT! She really got me. I'm so happy to have a home again, and confidence that I can keep my hair looking great. I was very very disappointed with the hairdresser here. I tried this place because I couldn't get an appointment at my regular place nor at the other Aveda salon in Glendale. I reached out to Bokaos and they were able to fit me in. I forgot the name of the hairdresser that did my hair, but she totally got my color wrong. I literally sat in the chair as she greeted me, then she said "ok I'll go mix your color". I'm not kidding or exaggerating when I say she looked at my hair for a couple of seconds before saying she was going to mix my color. She didn't even move it around to see my roots all around my head. I'm not one for chitchat so I just relaxed, it was pretty quiet since COVID and maybe the time of day. The rinse and shampoo was basic no scalp massage or anything, she just did the mechanics. Then, when we moved on to the cut, I showed her a couple of pictures and she said "ok". She didn't discuss the styles or the shape, which one might work better or anything. Whatever, I was already over this place. At this point I decided to make a little chitchat, because I needed to know how long she's worked there. She said she's been there for 5 years. At this point I had a couple of thoughts, first if she's been here for 5 years, how did she have availability? Normally, seasoned hairdressers have full books. When a new person comes in, they are usually assigned a new hairdresser so that the salon can fill the new hairdresser's books. Second thought, she hasn't been there for 5 years. Back to my cut, it was average, because after I washed it, my layers didn't blend at all. You can see every layer every 3 layers. Now, I really want to review my color (that she instantly mixed). When I looked at my color, it looked too light. I got up moved closer to the mirror, moved my hair around and said that my roots looked too light. Then, she said...she said, oh it's the lighting up here. Obviously, the direct sunlight was confusing me and making my roots appear lighter than they are. Then, we go down a few stairs to check out, where there's another mirror away from a light source, which she proceeds to tell me to check my roots again. Basically, my color matched perfectly in a dark room. It was so obvious that my roots were too light, but the fact that she told me to look into a mirror away from a lighting source is what really upset me. The only plus side to this was that she did give me a nice blow out. read more

I came in for a color consultation for someone with experience working on natural curly hair . It started a bit uncomfortable coming in and not being greeted. Walked up to a stylist who was able to get someone to assist. I didn't think much of it at first. I patiently waited to get a stylist to give me a consultation. But it got even more uncomfortable, I watched as the stylist finished a customer, chatted with the receptionist who also ignored me, and went back to "clean her station " without even being acknowledged. She finally comes down to the waiting area where she takes a whole 30 seconds to tell give me a "consultation". I was not given the curtesy of sitting at her station after all that wait. I booked for a mini highlight and cut, it took a while to get into the chair but once I did I showed her a photo of what I was going for and also the cut I had in mind at the end. I believe my stylist was the owner. She seemed preoccupied dealing with an issue during that day. While I was waiting for the color to soak in, a girl offered me a moisturizing hand massage, she was super friendly! I was there for a few hours and finally my hair was ready to rinse and blow dry. I realize a mini highlight wouldn't visually be a huge difference but I felt as though the highlighted pieces in my hair were more golden than the photo I referenced in the beginning. The photo I showed was more blonde. There wasn't much to do about that at that point so she continued with cutting it but nothing like the photo I showed in the beginning. I had asked for curtain bangs and long layers. I got more of a choppy layer look and no bangs I had been there for a while and was going to be picked up and she told me she could put in a couple more foils for no charge, and I had mentioned her cutting my bangs shorter. But since I had been there so long I had to go; she told me to come back the next weekend. I did message her via Instagram to make sure I could come in but never heard back. After giving it some thought and looking at my hair the next couple days, I didn't think coming back for a few foils would do much to the overall look of my hair; I didn't want more of these golden pieces. And I also didn't want curtain bangs anymore because i don't think it would coincide with the layers she gave me. Initially my coworker recommended this salon as she had been there a few years prior. I just think the price I paid vs what I got was not worth it for me. I have been going to Bokaos for almost half a year now and cannot be happier. I tend to be a fairly low maintenance person in regard to my hair routine and my stylist Didem has been very accommodating of that. Didem always has great suggestions for me on how to make my daily hair routine as quick as possible without looking like a mess :). Salon called to cancel my appointment two hours before my scheduled appointment because the stylist couldn't come in and offered me another appointment two weeks down the line. I have a wedding in two weeks and was depending on my appointment. When I asked why the stylist wasn't able to come in they told me she actually had regular clients that she had to do...so I guess she was able to come in just not for a new client! I walked in the salon with the the worst case of Covid hair imaginable. After seeing Hasblady, my hair looked fabulous. I gave her a photo of what the color used to look like. She duplicated that, only it looked better. What really impressed me was the time, patience and precision she displayed. It paid off -- because the colors were so well blended that it didn't scream -- "look at these highlights." It simply said -- "what great hair." She is a talented colorist who knows what she's doing. And she asked if the end result was what I wanted. I got the definite feeling that she cared about making sure that I was happy. I'll be seeing her in three months for a touch up and hair cut. However, the owner did, so there you have it. I reserve the right to my opinion and if I am to be somewhere for over 5 hours -and paying for it- I should at least enjoy myself. Apparently I should count my blessings that I was even there to receive such amazing tea surrounded by a renowned atmosphere and served by a highly trained hair dresser. I was referred to Farah, nice girl, but new nothing about cutting hair!! How can work in a salon and not know how to cut hair?? I've been holding off on reviewing this place because I am so torn and slightly disappointed. I had one of the best haircuts ever there by Rex. Seriously amazing. But, I called a month or so later to get a trim and he's no longer there. I was super bummed. So, this review is really based off of everything else about the salon, which is just ok. It's a nice place, but I really wasn't blown away by it either. My GPS was pretty confused when trying to find the place and they weren't super helpful when I called a little lost. Parking-- you either have to find street parking or pay at one of the nearby garages. Pretty typical for the area. If you want to give a tip, you have to bring cash or use the ATM that they have in their lobby. Or write a check? I've had some horrific experiences with getting my haircut, so I'm always a bit apprehensive when it comes to trying a new place. They're also pretty expensive, which is fine if you know you're getting a great cut, but is enough to keep me from going back and taking a chance. They do have a GroupOn offer which is a great deal and totally worth it. I was hoping to use it and give them another shot with a new stylist, but they said that since I was there in February that I couldn't use it. Confusing since the fine print says conflicting statements-- that Its not for clients active within the past 9 months AND it may be repurchase it every 30 days. Oh well... I'm a little disenchanted. I might give them another shot when it's been over 9 months and if I have an amazing experience with a rockstar stylist, I'll definitely update my review. read more

I have been coming to this salon periodically throughout the years to treat myself because it is a little out of my budget to come all the time as I wish I could. Has is brilliant she restored my hair and brought it back to life after a friend ruined it with bleach and box color. I couldn't run my fingers through my hair without crying. The bleach turned My hair into straw and I hated the color. Has fixed my hair brand new with the color I wanted , a deep conditioning treatment and a perfect cut that restored my hair to LOOK AND FEEL HEALTHY. Has also did my hair for prom and I looked like a 50s pin up doll. Most recently I came by and Has was on vacation so Ally did my hair and I'm in love with it! If I could give this salon zero stars, I would. So, let me tell you this nightmare I went through not to mention the way I was so disrespectfully treated by the Salon owner "HAZ". Back in late February... This was my first time at Bakaos Aveda, and because it had the "Aveda" name backing it up, jeez, I knew that they would be able to work with my baby fine hair. The owner "HAZ" is a complete liar and will not keep any eye on a new stylist who ruined my fine hair saying he was an expert in "Hair Extensions" his name was Mitch and has only worked there for about 3 months back in February of this year. He over bleached my fine hair, so it was blonde on top, so, the extensions he should've ordered for my blonde hair, eh.....Blonde. WRONG! The complete moron ordered a brownish red color. OMG, The owner "HAZ" should have checked to make sure he ordered the correct extensions for me. I mean, the time I spent having to return to the salon as I had a YouTube party in Sunday and meetings the following week. Then the whole reason for getting the extensions was because 1/Mitch said that was his specialty and 2/ I had a video shoot coming up too. Well, I had to return to that salon about 4/5 times, The owner bleached my extensions and hair again, it was one HUGE mess. Because the extensions were reddish brown, the blonde was a strawberry blonde and not ash. I was mad, late for photo and video shots, stressing because if what she and that idiot did to me! She then added some ass toner on top of the strawberry blonde. So I asked if this was permanent now. NO IT BLOODY WASN'T! Then 13 extensions fell out within two weeks and after one was I had this horrible color. I asked for all my money back which was $400, $200 for the color that first time and they let me leave with wet hair too. Then $200 deposit for the extensions. They actually wouldn't refund my money. I had to threaten her with the small claims court. It took a month or so, but she didn't pay to have my hair fixed by another salon. However, the night she was trying to fix my hair, she had Mitch blow dry it with this other girl. HAZ the owner doesn't care about anyone but herself. I lost a lot of money due to THEIR MISTAKES not mine. I'M THE CUSTOMER and I STAY AWAY from this salon as she is a drama queen calling her stylists "Baby" and "Darling". Also, the bathroom was out of order for a week! There is one nice girl I spoke to on the phone and she was on my side. I will not say her name, but thank you, I know she wasn't FAKE like HAZ. Expected me to pay for this! She should have paid for another salon to fix my hair as I asked. It started falling out and breaking off when she took out the extensions. read more

What a clean, pretty place! I recently purchased a Living Social deal for a full over color, cut and blowdry. I was in desperate need of covering up my head full of grey's and was hopeful that they could take my somewhat last minute appointment request. The front desk girls were more than accommodating and made me an appointment with Aspen for the following week after work. Aspen was super sweet, funny and made me feel like my grays weren't that terrible (thank you haha). She did a great color and cut for me. She didn't pressure me into cutting more off than I wanted or to do something I wasn't comfortable with, which I've experienced at other salons. She did a sleek blowdry for me after everything. My hair has never been shinier and smoother. I'm not sure what she did, but it worked! Parking: forever 21 has a valet service. Why be a below par hairstylist people!? Why? By chance I called Bokaos I asked for a skilled cutter and the woman said oh then Andrew. I looked him up on-line and it said he taught Vidal Sassoon styles in Europe. While the Sassoon school was open I went there to get my hair cut for 30 years. So I learned a lot sitting through hours of student haircuts. Andrew does know what he is doing. I have the perfect haircut. He told me things about my hair I never knew before that will help me blow dry it better. And now I have the perfect product to make my hair look cool too. I went in last week to get my first hair cut after covid-it had been a year and a half since I had gone in and I had had a full head of balayage done the last time I was in so my roots were pretty dark and my hair was at my waist, with awful rough ends. I was super nervous because I have naturally curly/wavy hair but Stacey gave me the BEST haircut I've ever gotten!! I told her all my concerns and wants for my hair and showed her a picture and she took lots of time to carefully explain my options for a cut that would satisfy my low maintenance and 0 morning-styling-time lifestyle as a teacher. I always take a while to really gauge how much I like a haircut since my hair is curly and you can never really tell until you try to style it yourself- but wow, I feel like I've finally achieved my Lob dreams with this cut! Loved this salon! Hazblady and her team are total gems! They did a great job and I'm very happy with the color and the attention to detail. I liked her technique and also professional consultative viewpoint in advising what would look best based on what I like and what can be done. I had prepared and brought with me several images of styles and colors I liked and she really did great in creating what I was looking for. Hazblady is the salon owner and she does a lot all the time to also supervise the quality of work of her staff and ensuring that the color work that is done is on-point and to a great result. I could see that she values QUALITY of the actually ensuring a great job is done on each client. While I was there she was simultaneously supervising other jobs and managing many things fantastically. She checked in me very regularly while my color was processing. It's not a matter of just getting everything all done and out the door. It's verifying that each detail is right and if something needs to be modified it is done right there to client satisfaction. I have been getting my hair cared for (care is the key word) for 15 years. I have followed Has to 3x different salon locations. Waited weeks to get in and believe me it is worth it. Most people tire of their stylist after a few years. ( I know I did until Hasblady started cutting and styling my hair) let me begin with I am super picky, super jumpy client! Ask anyone who has known me at Bokaos for the last 15 years! when I leave Has's chair (not making this up) people have asked to touch my hair it looks so perfect. Uh. Yeah. Strangers in line at various Old Town shops. I am a Leo and my mane is everything. A red head since childhood--that is a tough color to weave in as an older adult. Has nailed it every time. When I decided to be adventurous and try some blond highlights, we proceeded slowly and methodically. People were shocked when I said I dyed my hair blond. I am finally back to strawberry blond with warm blond highlights! My hair looks more like a 30 year olds instead of my real age. If you are jumpy or picky, my best advice is explain everything to your stylist! I know most of the team members at Bokaos and they will all listen and treat you with love and care. I went in with hair up to my shoulders. I asked to get half a inch cut up and add some structure. I proceeded to showing an image of how I normally cut my hair. The stylist himself said "so we're not cutting much off" I said no :). I'm not too sure what happened he basically cut off close to 4 inches. Hope you can imagine my frustration I've been letting my hair grow. Then he tells me I know we went slightly shorter but in order to give you texture we had too... I mean I already had the style I just needed a trim! Now the back... I'm not too sure what's happening here. It's completely uneven! My entire look has been changed. My hair is a mess specially the back! And I'm embarrassed of having my hair down because of it but then again I can't even put it up so I'm stuck looking a mess! It's very humiliating ñ! read more
