This originally was a text but as of a week ago they have made no attempt to contact, to try to remedy my bad experience or the manager or owner's call to apologize is the only reason why I am taking this to social media. I think any other Black American women or men who wants to try AVEDA do not go to BOKAOS AVEDA, 52 HUGUS ALY PASADENA, CA 91103 I have decided not to move forward with Bokaso. It's unfortunate that my concerns about the service weren't taken seriously enough for anyone to follow up, even if the relationship wasn't going to continue. Initially, I considered dismissing all AVEDA schools, assuming the experience would be the same everywhere. Thankfully, I found another location that was transparent from the beginning and took the time to listen to my needs and concerns. The lack of follow-up from Nicole, the owner or manager, made it clear that my satisfaction was not a priority only the money seemed to matter. I specifically requested a master stylist, yet I never met or even spoke to one. Instead, I was seen by someone unlicensed. For the amount I paid, I expected a much higher level of service. While Jules was courteous and polite I even tipped her the experience fell far short of my expectations. My hair was left so tangled that I had to comb it out and braid it myself afterward. I can't help but feel that 'Other Clients' receive better treatment. For instance, another woman, who I assume was Nicole, was called over to turn on the steamer I was sitting under, yet she neither acknowledged me nor made eye contact. Overall, it was a disappointing and eye-opening experience one I will not repeat. I will also ensure that my experience does not stop at this text so others are made aware of the level of service I received. I'm extremely picky when it comes to salons. The last time anyone touched my hair was prob 2-3 years ago. I met Hasblady at an event and instantly we clicked. I admire her style and her personality so much! She mentioned about her salon and I couldn't wait to check it out. Sure enough I went.. Hasblady and her team took such great care of me. I NEVER write a review much less a negative one. I have been going to Bokaos and have been satisfied with the results of coloring my hair. I stopped by two weeks ago and decided to trim an inch off my hair. An inch. It literally took my hairdresser "seconds" to trim an inch. Nothing fancy, an inch was trimmed. I go pay and was charged ** $95 ** for it. I was shocked, sad disappointed, stressed. No one over the counter seemed to care or did anything about it even though I expressed my stress. Zero empathy!! I took the initiative to reach out to the owner about prices becoming visible to customers. In so many words, Bokaos said that my Stylist prices have gone up. They are very sorry for Stylist not having communicated this to me. However, they would like to offer a complimentary conditioning treatment and blow dry. I AM SORRY but that offer does not make it right. I was not talking about the prices going up. Does the salon not feel it's wrong to charge $95 to cut an inch off? Where is the empathy when I showed emotion? Why not talk to me about it further when I was there? SAD in so many levels. My goal with this review is not to trash the salon at all. My wife and girls have been getting their hair cut and styled by Erika for over 15 years now. Her locations have changed from time to time but we keep up with her because she does such a great job with their hair. My wife has done some subtle hair color to highlights over the years depending on her mood and she always looks amazing. I don't have a favorite style because they are all gorgeous! My daughters also have come by often for trims and styles. I really do love how Erika takes the time to make them feel comfortable and make the day a fun experience. All while crafting such beautiful hair styles. She has traveled across the world for expert training and I love the looks that she creates. It always looks so complimentary to the girls. As for me, I keep my hair pretty short but I do have a stubborn cowlick that would annoy me if Erika didn't keep it under control. Oh and honestly she is one of the kindest and most genuine person I know. Bokaos is a gorgeous salon with a relaxing yet trendy vibe to it. I am always so scared of getting my hair done since I've had some horror stories with hairstylists not getting the color right or cutting too short, but Aly made me feel heard and confident. Booked an appointment for 9am and my stylist didn't arrive until 9:35am. It felt like a botch job because at 10am I was already out the chair paying $95 for the subpar haircut. The haircut itself was so choppy. I felt like there was barely any attention to detail. If you're only spending 15 mins cutting my hair then, yeah, there is no attention to detail. I had the most incredible facial with their new esthetician Michael. I get a lot of facials and this one was IT. I already booked for next month and feel like I've finally found the perfect place and esthetician. The location is in the cutest area, first of all, and the overall vibe of the salon is great. I love how thorough Michael was with my skincare and really getting to know my skin type before treating me. The aromatherapy at the start of my service was great, the clarity essential oil was my favorite. I loved the plant chemical peel that was gentle and 100 percent natural. She was short, long straight dyed blonde hair, fake thick false lashes, fake long nails. When I asked to speak to a manager about my experience, they asked Nicole to fix it. She was not very friendly. Place has a bad ambience. It was the worst haircut of my life. I will never go there. I am not sure why they have 4 stars. I have been to Aveeda salons before. I booked an appointment with Jan Marie after seeing all the amazing reviews she had for brows and they were all spot on. I love her energy and she's definitely worked her magic on my brows. Six years ago, I randomly found Bokaos on yelp. I got an appointment with Farrah, and was not disappointed. During my last appointment, (today, in fact) Farrah and I joked that this is the longest relationship either of us have been in. My haircut and color are always amazing and even when I take forever to come back, the cut keeps its shape. I moved about an hour away and still keep coming back because of the great quality. JAN MARIE's (facial) is the place to be! I met Jan Marie as a yoga instructor and she immediately became a dear friend. She is super sweet and provides such a relaxing facial. She listens, understands, and addresses any skin issues you have. She offers the best advice and every day tips to help your skin glow. My favorite thing is that she incorporates more than just your face during the facial... she helps you relax by incorporating your breath, she continues little massages to your shoulders and even feet! Was nice and easy process to buy my Aveda Shampoo and Conditioner over the phone. Girl took my card number and everything and it was a curbside pick up. When I came home, they gave me two conditioner bottles, when I ordered a shampoo and conditioner. I called and kindly asked if they can do anything even though I know it's COVID times. A girl told me on the phone that she asked her manager and there's nothing they can do at all- I feel silly for feeling like I just wanted to exchange a simple bottle of conditioner now I don't have shampoo. So disappointed. I walked into the salon to inquire about brow lamination services and the girl at the front desk didn't even know what it was and proceeded to tell me they don't offer it. As I'm walking out the owner stops and says they do and apologizes because the receptionist is "new". So I go back to the front desk while they are fumbling to find any information about the service. Finally after almost 10 min she gets my phone number to call me back. After 2 hours I FOLLOW UP and call the salon. She doesn't even remember me and after I explain she ends up giving me the phone number for Jan who apparently is the brow artist. Well I texted the number, she READS IT, and then never responds. Didn't know it would be this difficult to make an appointment. So sad because the salon looks incredible inside and is in a nice location. read more

I went here with a Groupon for a haircut, scalp ritual, and blow dry and was so looking forward to it! So I was so disappointed with the experience and result. I thought I would be walking out with a refreshed and clean feeling but I'm actually going to go straight home and wash and style my hair myself. Making the reservation was easy and the front desk was super helpful. Parking is always annoying here but I used the park and walk garage which is free for the first 90 minutes. That was perfect for me because I was in and out in around 40 minutes. That amount of time though does not make for a great salon experience. Seriously this includes the time it took for me to check in, use the restroom, put on a robe, scalp ritual, shampoo, hair cut, blow dry, checking out, and back in my car. Scalp ritual - I don't even know if she touched my scalp. Like literally it was less than a minute where she applied a product to my hair and basically touched my scalp with her fingertips once. I thought OK maybe the shampoo will be longer and relaxing and I love a great head massage when I get my hair shampooed at the salon! Nope! She barely wet my hair and when she washed it again, never touched my scalp. I don't get how this could be a scalp ritual?!? Hair cut - I hate having to stand up behind the chair to get my hair cut and I had to get up twice today. The haircut itself was fine (not butchered) but when I went home my husband said "you look exactly the same". That's not the type of reaction one looks for! I checked out with the Groupon which was fast and still tipped my stylist to be nice because I thought maybe she's not having a good day or is off her game. I wish I read reviews searching for her name earlier because others wrote the same about her. I won't recommend purchasing this Groupon or going to get your hair done by Allie. I had the worst experience of my life at this Salon. I have not left a yelp review till now, I am new to Pasadena, so I read the reviews, and opted for Bokaos. So called them 3 weeks ago to book an apt , as Has( the owner) has been given good reviews, I had to wait 3 weeks to book an apt coz Has was off . They called me a week ago if I can postpone my apt from 3 to 4 pm , I said yes. They called me 2 days before my apt saying that they have to reschedule coz I had booked for hair colour and cut , the time would not be enough. I said I will not be able to find another time because I am will be busy from next week, Has does not work on weekends. So they said they would discuss with Has and call me back . They now call me asked me to come at 2.30 instead , I said ok ( I am a physician and it's a light day on this Friday 2/25/23 When I showed up for the apt , D( Has's assistant) talks to me regarding what I want etc. I asked if it's going to be Has , doing my hair ? She said absolutely, yes. When I went upstairs, the robes were dirty. Has comes and asks how much hair do you wanna cut ? I showed her and she chops it and leaves D and another assistant does the hair colour, another assistant washes my hair. There was dye left on my face , no one bothers to clean it , I still have the marks on my face. Has comes in does the haircut and leaves. The assistant does the hair conditioning and washes my hair And 2 assistants and Has( she was only in the beginning 5 min) get ready to blow dry. I said I don't want blow dry . Has said I need to get it coz she needs to adjust the cut at the end . When all of them did at once I felt like my hair was pulled and I could smell my hair burning . I asked them to stop and payed the bill . And it was 488$. I came home disappointed, had severe headache all night , my ear is red and burning from the heat of the blow dry, the dye on my face and my ears and the cut which is below average...... hello! i am not really the type of person to write reviews about places but after getting my hair done here i feel as though i need to. i was initially going in to get my blonde hair retouched with the stylist NICOLE. she said she did not usually do those types of services but she would try to for me which i was grateful for. fast forward to me getting my hair done she was saying how my hair was having a hard time lifting and that i would need to schedule another session within a couple days ( i went in friday and we scheduled for the following monday ). i paid $200 for a prelighten and tone on friday and was assuming that my next appointment would not be charged as though this was initially the work she was finishing that was left undone on friday. keep in mind im a boy and my hair is fairly short. she had also recommended we cut half an inch of my hair to get rid of the dry dead hair which i was totally up for. she never told me how much of an additional cost this tiny haircut would be keep in mind. anyways my session on monday when i came back was super quick about an hour or so nothing to major and to my surprise when my session ended i was charged another $200 for the session of a prelighten and tone. then to top it off they had charged me $85 for a haircut that literally only took a couple minutes and she didn't really cut my hair but just do a trim. i could have gone to a better hair salon and gotten a way better haircut for the price of $85 which is absolutely insane to me. in total i spent $485 to initially just get my blonde hair retouched and a small minor haircut. i would understand if she was bleaching my hair from original black to blonde but my hair has been blonde prior to this appointment and i was just getting a touch up. nicole never told me about any pricing or even mentioned it at all throughout my appointments which is something that should be initially discussed before any work is done. it is crazy to me how my hair cost $485 when first of all there wasn't a lot of hair to work with since i am a guy and have fairly short hair i would understand if it was a girl with long hair. i would highly advise anyone who has thoughts about going to this salon to rethink their decision and go somewhere else. i literally feel as though i was scammed. i talked to my coworkers about how much they had charged for my hair and they were all baffled and basically said i was overcharged. i really hope whoever is reading this takes my word and does not come here!! i really was debating about writing this review because i hate being that type of person but i really want to warn people. never coming here again !! read more

Bought a Groupon and had no trouble making an appointment. A confirmation text was also sent a few days before to remind me of my Friday appointment. All the staff were really sweet, however that's about as far as my compliments will go. FRIDAY: I arrived a little before my 9am appointment. I was greeted by Julie at the front desk. And then I just sat there and waited.... I knew my hairstylist was running late; I heard one of the other hairstylist offering to take me and my hairstylist can take her other Groupon client (but that didn't happen). Julie tried to keep me occupied by giving me a hand treatment (still not informing me that my hairstylist wasn't even there yet). Finally when it was 9:20, Julie took me up the stairs and she began washing my hair. Usually I enjoy having my hair washed, however having the water being too cold and then too hot was rather unpleasant. I want to say it wasn't until 9:30 I finally saw my hairstylist, Montana. I showed her a photo and she got to work right away. During my haircut Julie came by and let my hairstylist know that her next two appointments were there waiting for her already. It was close to 11:00 when I was done with my haircut. The haircut looked good until... SUNDAY: As I was washing my hair, I felt a chunk of hair that was extremely long. It felt like I had a ducktail/rattail! I called the salon to let them know that my hairstylist missed a section of my hair. I was told that Montana was booked and that I can come in and she can try to fit me in... (I thought to myself, " Let me get this straight.. she rushed my haircut when I came in on Friday and now she is going to rush to fix my hair in between her appointments?!") I informed the receptionist that I did not want to sit there and wait until whenever she had time. The receptionist put me on hold and came back to tell me that Jen can take me at 3:30pm. I arrived about 5 minutes before my appointment and met Jen. I held my hair together for her to see the extra long section of hair and she said, "Oh it's a quick fix." She sat me down and started to fix my hair and explaining now it wouldn't matter which way I style my hair it should be even. (....Shouldn't it have been like that in the first place??) Twenty minutes later she was done. She tried to use a hairdryer to remove some of the hair on my neck but the damage was already done. I wished they had offered me one of those robes to wear underneath like my first visit. Instead I left the salon with hair all over my back and shirt. Well at least my haircut is even now... the second time around. SUMMARY: I thought it would have been a nice treat for myself to get a haircut at a nice salon like Aveda but in the end I should have just stuck to one of those cheap Asian places. I would NOT recommend this place. CONS: -Not informing the client that the hairstylist was running late. -Missed a chunk of my hair. -Unapologetic for messing up my hair. -Left salon with hair all over my neck/back and shirt. read more

I found this salon through Groupon and my hair cut, wash, blow dry, and styling was $46 (w/o tip)! Allie was my hair stylist and she did great. Friendly and warm. She asked about my day, New Years, and always checked in about how I was feeling about the length of my cut. She answered questions I had about my hair maintenance and hair dyeing. The whole cut was fast too - I had super long hair (down mid back) and we took off 3-4 inches and she only took 35 minutes. If I had to pay full price I don't think I'd return because I'm a student but for the Groupon deal, it was totally worth it! The only critique I have is the cleanliness of the salon.
