Boise Trolley Tours is a great time. The conductors are very friendly and knowledgeable about Boise and its history. I found it surprisingly fun and enjoyable to ride around town in the trolley, just kicking back and enjoying how beautiful and special Boise truly is. I bought our tickets online. $20 for seniors, $22 for adults. My brother was visiting from out of town and our daughter also came along. I believe it's supposed to be a two-hour tour. You meet in the parking lot of the Red Lion Downtowner hotel. The woman at the front desk of the hotel cheerfully told us that the Trolley picks up at the front entrance. She was wrong, and I told a few people that drove up what the lady said. One, a man with a cane, then had to walk to the back of hotel after telling me that he was told to meet in the back. I told the driver, a nice ,older, white-haired man, and he made a comment but didn't seem too concerned. Then it started raining, and with the wind blowing, got pretty chilly. We brought jackets, but it was still cold. No one's fault. The driver has a laptop with a program that he plays, with narration that could have been AI generated, and photos. There are screens in front and midway in the seating area. The first part of the seating is covered on the sides with windows, the back part is open on the sides. There were flaps that could have been brought down to keep us warmer. I don't know why the driver didn't think of that. We sat in the very back, as the front was filling with seniors. Most of the tour was OK. There was commentary on historic buildings and parks, as well as 19th century homes. We stopped at the old Boise Train Depot, but it wasn't open today (only Sunday and Monday, I believe). We drove down Harrison Blvd, through Hyde Park, and past the Capitol building and Boise State University. When the tour was almost over, the driver seemed to be having trouble with his program. He pulled over to the side of the road and we all sat for at least 5, maybe 10 minutes, while he fiddled with his laptop. Finally, he gave up and everyone cheered. For the last 15 minutes, he narrated while we drove, which I'm told was good stuff, but his mic did not have enough volume for me to hear. So, I missed out on that. The tour ended up being about 2.5 hours, longer than I'd like on a chilly day. On top of the cost of the tickets, over $12 was added in "fees and taxes". For that kind of money, a witty, funny, and knowledgable guide should be doing the tour, entertaining the customers. I don't think that I would bring any more out of town guests on this tour. read more

Beautiful fall day & light enough to see everything on the tour. The trolley was gorgeous & our tour guide was very nice. The only thing I really didn't like was our skeleton tour guide. He was cute yeah ( yeah he was cute), but his jokes were horrible! Even the tour guide seemed embarrassed by some of his jokes. We did stop at a cemetery & the old penitentiary which was pretty neat , but weren't able to stay for long. Saw the Halloween decorations on Harrison & that was also pretty cool. Overall , I enjoyed it , but the skeleton just wasn't very funny. read more

We went on the Haunted Trolley Tour last night and the trip was so fun. The trolley was packed even for a Wednesday night. We went on their Christmas light tour a few years ago and it has gotten better. They know have small TVs inside the trolley as part of their tour so you can see and hear about what they are talking about. Our skeleton hostess was awesome and very unique. Made 2 stops at a cemetery and the Idaho Pententairy. Both were great to see and visit this time of year. Spooky. Made a drive down Harrison Blvd. Our driver, I forgot his name, was so nice and did a great job! What a great night and we are looking forward to some of their other excursions. read more

I thought it was going to be more informative. And since it was Halloween I thought it would have been a little scary. We got out and walked around a grave yard. Went to the penitentiary but it was closed so we just walked around the outside of the building. I think they should have had people in costumes in the grave yard. And the Penitentiary should have been open with people in costumes. read more

Absolutely loved this tour! We went yesterday (June 12) at 1:00 PM and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. Our driver was wonderful--friendly, welcoming, and took the time to greet each guest, explain the agenda, and offer helpful tips to make the most of the tour. We parked at the Red Lion Hotel, which made things super easy. The trolley was easy to spot when it pulled in, and there was time to use the restroom and get settled before departure. I was a little concerned about the heat since it was over 80 degrees and our group had eight people, ranging in age from 8 to 83--but the open-air trolley was perfect! With both sides open, a great breeze kept us cool and comfortable the entire time. I wasn't sure what to expect with the recorded audio and video, but it actually worked out well! The audio was clear and loud enough for everyone to hear--even me, and I usually need subtitles! The video added a great visual element, showing historical photos of Boise and Idaho that really brought the tour to life. The large open windows made it easy to see the sights, and our driver even pulled over at times so we could get a better look and hear additional commentary. His driving skills were impressive--navigating downtown Boise with all its one-way streets and construction is no small feat, but he handled it like a pro. I felt completely safe and could just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. It was a fantastic way to spend a couple of hours with visiting family, and we all came away having learned something new about Boise and Idaho. This tour is perfect for all ages and clearly run by people who care deeply about making it an enjoyable experience. This was honestly the worst holiday light tour we've done. The tour for the mine lasted maybe 40 minutes and only went through one neighborhood that's been around forever. If you've lived here for any amount of time, you've already seen these lights many times over. We were really hoping for something new or unique, not the same displays we see every year. The experience felt very limited and repetitive, especially given the expectation that this would be a special holiday event. My family was genuinely disappointed and felt it wasn't worth the time or cost. If you're looking for a fresh or memorable holiday light experience, this probably isn't it. read more

I recently did the haunted Boise trolley tour and it was a fun time! One of my side gigs is as a tour guide on a year-round walking ghost tour in Boise and me being a tour guide myself, I wanted to take a tour of the area myself and see another guides take on the haunted history of Boise and let me tell you, it was well worth it just to get a ride on trolley with a talking skeleton! Yep, that's right a talking skeleton!!! Our skeleton guide, Ron, was a hoot! He was quite humorous telling lots of jokes throughout which is something I also like to do on my tours.. and he actually talked about some of the same places I take groups of people to and talk about as well but also had a few fun ghost stories i didn't know about. It was definitely different being on the trolley versus walking in those areas as the driver did go by alot of these areas rather quickly but I don't blame him though.. I'm sure the tour company has got him on a tight schedule as they sometimes do 3 of these tours a night and he's got to make it back on time for the next group... and my group did get to stop at a cemetery (this only happens when it's still light out which it was because I went on their earliest tour time, 5pm) and we got to walk all around the cemetery and then we also got to get off the trolley at the Old Idaho State Penetentiary and walk the grounds outside of the Penetentiary. We also saw some pretty cool Halloween displays around Harrison Blvd towards the end of the tour. The driver of the trolley also chimed in from time to time to tell us some stories he had but he was nowhere near as entertaining as Ron the skeleton lol Overall, I'd say it's worth going to the haunted trolley tour and I look forward to going on their Christmas lights trolley tour next! read more

That was the biggest mis-advertising I've ever seen. Save your money. The Christmas lights tour is winding and circling around in random unimpressive neighborhood off Fairview and you can barely see the lights out the windows. They need to tell you where the tour is- they advertise like it will be downtown Boise or historical district. read more

Don't waste your money, the driver whizzes by the property so fast you don't have time to take it in. Very inconsiderate driver. Acts like he's in a huge hurry to get back and be over , but that's not what we expected or paid for. Big waste of time and money. I booked about 1 month before my trip. I took the tour today and just enjoyed it emmensely. Tom was the guide and gave us a brief history of the Boise State Bengals football team. I am all about housing styles and history in the development of cities, towns, etc. I took over 100 photos from houses, the state capitol, old state prison & Basque restaurant area. I was excited. This should have been fun. The classic trolley looks really cool. Mostly old stained wood with bench seats that have cushions. And they have it decked out in Christmas lights which go well with the Christmas music playing during the tour. However, the person who checks you into your reservation is rude. My tour started 15 minutes late but still finished at the scheduled time so the hour I paid for was only 45 minutes. Also, myself and the other passengers were all nauseous from the overwhelming exhaust from the trolley. I'm assuming they have a smog exemption on this whole thing because it's pretty bad. Overall, I would avoid it. Could have been great but the people operating this wreck it. read more

We got to go to a graveyard and walk around which was awesome! Not everyone can say they got to go walking around a graveyard, in the dark,...on Halloween night! We were in town visiting a friend so I thought this tour would be fun to take our 1 yr old and see some of the sights. The tour takes you around some of the highlights of Boise - you get to see sone of the various residential neighborhoods, a peek at the old Idaho penitentiary and state capital. The guided tour gives you some info on the history of the various locations; all while riding around in an old trolley. I really liked seeing some of the old huge houses and getting the history of who used to live in them and how old they were. No regrets, it was nice 75 minutes. Hubby thought it was a little longer than necessary but it might have been partly because our 1 year old was done sitting still after about 30 minutes. We sat in the back where there was a long bench all to ourselves so that worked out with a toddler but again, only lasted for so long until she was pissed because we didn't let her walk down the aisle. read more

I have lived in Meridian Idaho for a year and was clueless about this area. When an out of town visitor came to see me, we took this tour as something to do. It turned out to be a pleasant and informative experience. The driver was respectful, the prerecorded message was clear, the trolley was cute, and the passengers happened to be quiet (yay) . We had a super disappointing experience with Boise Trolley Tours. We hired them for a private event for five hours. Communication wasn't great beforehand, had to fully pay and tip before services were received, and the service the day of was so bad we had to hire a different company last minute to assist us and fire them the day of. The new company said they have been in this situation before and the driver is known for his bad attitude. Boise Trolley Tour's driver absolutely shocked our guests with his rude behavior and made quite the scene that left our guests appalled and talking about it instead of enjoying our event. When I fired the driver he did not seem to care at all. When I called the person we booked with to give them feedback about our experience they never returned my call. We will never work with them again and would not recommend them to anyone. read more

I went with my daughter who now lives here. We loved it & the history. My parents had also done the tour. It gives you a great overview of the city & the local area. We learned tons. I've lived in Boise for 16 years and had a friend visiting from California and decided to take the Boise Trolley Tour. It was very interesting and informative. The only thing that could of made it better was if the windows could of been opened (was broken) and if they would of served cold drinks, as it was a very hot day. Would recommend. read more
