From the immense front porch with rockers and a swing to the claw tub to the mini farm with sheep and chickens one was surrounded with silence and thought - if these walls could talk!- Every nook and cranny filled with early 20th century furnishings and books! There is a fireplace for cool nights and one very small hidden tv which was turned on once in 3 days and that was to watch Little House on the Prairie! Breakfast each day? Delectable!

When we pulled up to the hotel, we parked in an area that the front desk later confirmed was not valet parking and that we were fully permitted to use. Despite this, a man wearing a plain black shirt with no name tag, hotel logo, or other identification immediately approached us and aggressively demanded, "You need to give me your keys now." He never introduced himself, never identified himself as a hotel employee or valet attendant, and never welcomed us to the hotel. Instead, he immediately became confrontational. When I explained that I was not comfortable handing my vehicle keys to an unidentified stranger, he escalated the situation by repeatedly yelling, "Bro, bro, you're not going to disrespect me." We attempted to walk away and continue with check-in, but the harassment did not stop. After checking in, we returned outside to unload our luggage, and he immediately confronted us again. This time, he threatened that if I did not hand over my keys, "there would be consequences." No guest should ever be threatened simply for asking reasonable questions or wanting to verify the identity of someone requesting possession of their vehicle. The front desk staff later confirmed that we had parked in the correct location and acknowledged that this employee's behavior was inappropriate. While I appreciated their honesty, that did not change what had already occurred or the fact that the individual continued to work the front entrance. Unfortunately, the situation only worsened throughout the remainder of our stay. Every time we entered or exited the hotel, this valet employee continued making comments about my group to his coworkers. He would smirk, laugh, and make remarks within earshot of us, often in front of the front desk staff. Rather than feeling welcomed as paying guests, we felt uncomfortable and uneasy every time we walked through the lobby. The hostility that began upon our arrival never truly ended. As an IHG One Rewards Diamond Elite member who spends more than 200 nights each year almost exclusively at IHG properties, I have always chosen IHG because of the professionalism, hospitality, and consistency I have experienced across its brands. Unfortunately, this stay was unlike anything I have ever encountered. In all my years of traveling, I have never felt so disrespected, singled out, isolated, or unwelcome at a hotel. IHG promotes its hotels as places where every guest should feel safe, respected, and valued. That was not my experience at this property. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, I felt that our concerns were dismissed, and the behavior of this employee created an environment where we no longer felt comfortable. This was, without question, the worst hotel experience I have ever had. It has caused me to seriously reconsider my loyalty to IHG after spending hundreds of nights each year with the brand. I hope hotel management and IHG Corporate conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, address the conduct of the employee involved, and ensure that no future guest has to experience the same treatment we did.

Service was overall good at each venue. The lobby restaurant didnt open until 5pm. However the pub was able to accommodate our needs. The adjacent bakery and coffee shop was a nice venue to have. I was immediately blown away with the foyer! At check in, there is fruit infused water to quench your thirst. Make sure you keep your room key in hand because you will need it to operate the elevator (once in, hold it against the black box until light turns green and quickly select your floor). The hallways were incredible! And still had their old charm! I even picked up the old fashioned telephone and it rings the front desk! You can use it shall you need something ... if for some reason you cannot enter your room, just pick up the black phone in the hallway and they will come to you (this didn't happen to me, but just a tip if it does). I stayed in room 1470 and absolutely love my view of the gothic architecture of the Union Trust. I looked out my window a million times! The size of my room was huge! I could have done cartwheels all over the place! The WiFi is complimentary for guests. There's cable TV. Maybe other options too but I didn't have my tv on much to know. The water pressure deserves its own special shout out! Holy moly it was heaven! And the brand of washes they had was nice! Usually the conditioner isn't good enough in hotels for my hair but this was just fine! And there's a good blow dryer on the back of the door (I still used my own because I have a lot of hair and it's long BUT had I forgotten it, their hair dryer would have been just fine at 1875 watts. There's a tag on your door that you can hang if you'd like to skip housekeeping for a day and the hotel will donate a meal for doing so .. check out the tag for more info! There's also cards you can put on your bed if you want your bedding changed. I was never bothered in my room by housekeeping. I was never bothered by noise. I never experienced a phony phantom call to my room. (All things I've experienced at other places). You will get a free drink at checkout you can get a beer at the tap room or a coffee at Mellon Square (on site). It is not good for the speakeasy ... and yes, it's a real speakeasy that existed in the 1920s you could access thru tunnels under the city! So cool! On checkout day, the event I attended was going to start early and finish after checkout time. Since I was up late the night before, the front desk said I was welcome to bring my bags down now for bellhop to hold, but they also put me for a late checkout at 1pm so I could come down late the next day too. So partway thru the event just before 1pm I brought down my bags and they held them for the next 90 mins I was there. I parked across the street at the Mellon square parking garage ... Apple GPS marks the garage in the wrong place FYI ... it marks it about a block away but it is directly across the street from the hotel, with the entrance to it being on the cross street. I paid $44 to park there from Thursday around 5pm to Sunday around 3pm. Not bad. They do have valet parking at the hotel too but that is $55 per day I believe. Leaving was sad. I would have liked more time to enjoy this place. I would love to come back sometime! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Wonderful staff and incredible hotel! First off, parking for The Fairmont is $10 for self-parking or $56 for valet parking. While the valet parking fee is quite hefty, the valet attendant did let us know in advance of both options. I opted for valet because I would have either had to backup or drive around the block to self-park and, well, why not treat ourselves further on this festive day while we were all dressed up soooo we did valet parking. Then, the hotel lobby was emaculate and festively decorated for Christmas with a tree, Santa's mailbox, and garland adorning the stairs. We made our way upstairs to the grand ballroom with assistance by pleasant hotel staff. There was another Christmas tree there. The ballroom was large, tables with tablecloths were set about the room, and there was a pianist and cellist playing. Service was buffet-style with staff assisting us with what was what. There was a meat station with turkey, ham, and prime rib, salad and soup station with butternut squash soup and French onion soup, a station with sides including Brussels sprouts, glazed carrots, yams, potatoes, green bean casserole, dressing, etc., a coffee station, and a dessert station with bourbon pecan pie, pumpkin pie, blueberry cobbler (star of the show), and more. Everything was delicious, staff was excellent. Two notes to elevate the experience: 1) next time setting up tables for two, staff could set it up so that guests don't have to straddle the table legs 2) for the price of $75, ya gotta have cocktail shrimp Would i do it again? Yes, IF they add the shrimp.

The space was clean, comfortable, and the bathroom was well kept. The only downside was the bed placement--it's positioned in the corner, and both of us ended up with a few bruises on our knees from the bed frame, which was a bit inconvenient. It's also pet-friendly, which was great for our dog. He did well overall, but being a senior, the stairs were a bit much for him after a while. Breakfast was simple with options like cereal, oatmeal, bananas, apples, tea, and coffee. It was fine, though we were expecting a more traditional bed-and-breakfast style meal with a bit more variety. If I owned the property, I'd love to add a front deck to make the outdoor space even more inviting.

What they have here is afternoon tea and I wish they would advertise it as such. You get a perfect 19th century setting, which makes for the perfect ambiance. For the tea, I had green tea and hot cinnamon, and both were excellent! The cinnamon takes the cake for best tea with excellent flavor, especially with the hints or orange. Our food was delectable. The pimento cheese sandwich and crostini were fantastic. The chicken salad stuffed gouger was divine. The scones were the best I've had. Crunchy on the outside, while warm and fluffy in the middle. I could have eaten ten of the cinnamon scones. Excellent cheesecake and cream puff. The star of the show was chocolate mousse on a pecan crust. Just yum!!! Phenomenal service, tea, and food made for a wonderful afternoon high tea!!
