The muffuletta? Life changing. One of the top 3 sandwiches I've ever had, and I'm so lucky it's not far away and I can get it every week if I really wanted. My husband doesn't even like lamb and he thinks the lamb is pretty good. Perfect for the paleo plate application - you won't even miss the bread. The breakfast sandwich? UGH. Phenomenal burger. Doesn't even need ketchup or mustard because the meat is so flavorful. Not heavy, maybe because it's grass fed beef (which is much healthier). It's the end of tomato season and the tomatoes were great. They gave me a sample of their chopped pork when I saw it and asked what it is -- also phenomenal: tender and flavorful. This is hands down my favorite burger in SF. I wish i could get it any day of the week, but it's only at the fort mason farmers market. Every bit of it is prepared from someone that truly loves the craft of making a burger. Order it medium rare and you get it medium rare. It's cooked to perfection with flavorful beef, sharp cheddar. I stumbled upon Boffo Cart at the California Avenue Farmer's Market in Palo Alto on Sunday. If you're unsure what to order, I highly recommend the breakfast sandwich! It was one of the best breakfasts I've had in a really long time. The sandwich has thick slices of bacon, egg, provolone, and mayo, between two slices of rosemary focaccia. I'm a loyal patron of the Boffo Cart at the Palo Alto Farmers Market on Sundays. I used to go once in awhile as a treat, but now I pretty much get a breakfast sandwich every time I'm there. No shame! I've tried a few of the sandwiches, but the breakfast one is my go-to. Sometimes the line is long but it turns over pretty quickly. Met up with a friend for lunch on a Friday, who happens to work overlooking the Old Oakland Farmers' Market. While there are obviously some great lunch options at the market, Boffo Cart drew us in with their delicious sounding sandwiches, any of which you can also get "paleo" style (sans bread). I appreciate food places that don't confine dishes to a specific time of day. Yes, I would love a breakfast sandwich at 1:30 pm! The breakfast sandwich is two eggs over medium, crispy bacon, provolone cheese, arugula, and their house-made mayo. The eggs and bacon are cooked to order. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the sandwich was hearty and filling. I would have liked my bacon to be crispier, especially since they specifically list it as so. This particular sandwich typically comes on a rosemary herb bread, although they only had one left so I got mine on another type of bread... a challah roll, I think. We took our sandwiches to a bench nearby, so we could sit and eat and chat. It was quite a messy situation (the eating, not the sitting or chatting), so next time I would opt to get the sandwich fillings paleo style and dig in with a fork. read more

Delicious! Been coming to this stand at the Cal Ave Farmers Market (9-1 Sundays year round) for 5 years. It's consistently delicious. They have both good breakfast and lunch options. Breakfast-wise, I've attached a picture of the breakfast sandwich subbing bacon for avocado. See, this place is delicious for meat eaters and vegetarians alike! Don't let the pile of meat on the grill in the back fool you. Lunch-wise, their pork and lamb sandwiches are downright exquisite. The crust they get on their meats is downright delicious. I walk past this cart every Sunday at the Cal Ave Farmer's Market and gawk at the enticing aroma of bacon, eggs and pork on the grill. Today we went with the sole purpose of going to Boffo and Im so glad! Pork sandwich, pork sandwich, PORK SANDWICH with a fried egg! I don't know what they did to that Pork, but it was so satisfying! The sandwich came on a fresh, soft bun with Dijon mustard, arugula, and a generous portion of their perfect pork. I chose to top mine with a fried egg. The pork was grilled perfectly with a nice crunch, but not overdone. The flavor was subtly powerful, meaning that you can taste the meat without the "smokey" flavor overtaking the flavor completely. My husband got the breakfast sandwich (cheese, egg, bacon & arugula) which was also delicious, I think there was a hint of rosemary buried in there too, which made it unique to other breakfast sandwiches. I think he was jealous of my pork sandwich though. ;) Overall, we'll definitely be back for more pork sandwiches. With the egg it was a $10 breakfast, but my tastebuds insist that it was absolutely worth it! read more

Awesome. I found out about Boffo Cart at the Beehive Market in Berkeley while visiting friends in the East Bay. The guy that runs it is super nice and friendly. He makes these awesome paninis (grilled sandwiches) and piadinis (grilled calzones) with super fresh ingredients. He's cool, too, cuz he's pretty vegan friendly. I got a cherry tomato panini, and just asked for no cheese. Turned out perfectly delectable. I went to the first Underground Market held in Oakland and the Boffo Cart guy was there! Remembering that I'd only tried the panini before, I had the piadini this time. I forget what was in there, but it was delicious. Anyway, he grills his sandwiches right in front of you, and if you're lucky, you can walk right up to his stand, order something, and he'll hand you it right off the grill, ready. As Shannon K. said in her review of the Boffo cart in Oakland, I too feel that "I cannot wait until next Sunday' until the scrumptious pork sandwich is in my hands... and then in my belly. My first experience at Boffo was a mere month ago-- I was introduced by a friends, friend, and it surely changed my Sunday routine for the rest of eternity. The breakfast sandwich is the perfect balance of crusty warm bread, bacon sizzling while it cookies in slow cooked pork juice, fried egg with a runny middle and crispy edges, provolone, mayo, and some mustard greens. Ugh. And then there is the deceivingly simple sounding, "Ham n Cheese", which is actually the code word for the sandwich that will forever change your expectations on how pork should be cooked. Old Oakland's Farmers Market lunch time secret, thats not so much of a secret! If you ever venture down to the farmers market, you'll see everyone standing in line for fish tacos. If you're feeling tacos, stand in that line, if you're feeling a juicy grassfed burger or pork with a fried egg ontop of some greens, then just take a few steps further down to the Boffo Cart. This place does not disappoint! I've tried their grassfed cheese burger twice; they grab a handful of ground beef and form the patty right then and there after you order it. Not one burger is the same size as the other. The first time I had it, the burger was amazing... the second time, it was good, but lacked the size/seasoning/greens. I've also tried their paleo plate which is a great concept. Any choice off the menu ontop of a bed of greens and a fried egg. I opted for the chopped pork... pork is tender, juicy, and flaky! This time though, my egg was over fried so it wasn't runny and the "bed of greens" was minimal in comparison to my coworkers who ordered the same exact thing. This is a great addition to the California Ave Farmers Market in Palo Alto. They seem to run out of most of their stuff fairly early every week. They use Acme bread. So it is nice, fluffy, moist. Good stuff. I had the pork sandwich. The pork is very tender & moist, but still maintains some bark. There is a generous amount of mustard on the sandwich. Since I love mustard, I enjoyed this, but those who dislike mustard should be wary. The 'cart' is right next to Roli Roti at the Cal Ave Market, so my mind was primed to draw parallels between the two. I think Roli Roti's porchetta sandwich is better because of their Rosemary Salt(that stuff is so delicious). It's truly a blessing that this place makes an appearance at the Oakland Friday farmers market. They're on Clay and 9th. The several times I've been I've gotten the pork shoulder paleo plate and it never disappoints! Really generous portions of pork and zesty mustard on a bed of fresh arugula, topped with a fried egg - can't be beat! The texture of the pork is a nice balance between chewy and crispy, and has never been tough. The egg doesn't ooze quite as much as I wish it did but it's still a great topping to the whole dish. At $10.25 after tax, it's a little pricey but imo worth it to get once every couple weeks - it's so filling and satisfying and delicious! Last week I saw some tempting prepared food, maybe a brisket, at the Albany Farmers' Market but when I went yesterday, ready to buy dinner for last night, the menu was different, something w/ chorizo, that didn't appeal to me. Right next door was Boffo Cart, w/ its charming and friendly chef. He had calzones , something else and pork chops on his menu. The pork chop was accompanied by asparagus tips, green garlic and thinly sliced onions. That looked good, so I said I'd be back after I did the rest of my shopping. That I did and he cooked up my pork chop, covered it w/ the veggies, packed it securely and gave me instructions on reheating it when I got home. A couple of hours later I followed his instructions and cooked a bit of squash I picked up from Shooting Star. It was a delicious and healthy dinner. It wasn't until writing this review that I read Lyd D's, which reminded me that Boffo Cart had been at the Kensington Farmers' Market. I'd bought something, maybe a sandwich, but hadn't reviewed it. I remember whatever I had as being good and I remember the chef/owner as being very nice. This may have been a year ago. As far as I'm concerned, Boffo Cart is the Chez Panisse/Rivoli of food carts/street food in the Bay Area - fresh, seasonal and high quality ingredients prepared simply but perfectly. I remember when Boffo Cart first made its debut at the Kensington market, I was mildly intrigued, and it took me several weeks to decide to get a grilled sandwich on Acme rosemary focaccia with cherry tomatoes, basil and fresh mozzarella. It was love at first bite. My husband and I took a bite of the sandwich and looked at each other, and we said, "WOW!" We are quite addicted to the grilled calzones - the dough is handmade by the Talent (I don't want to say "Owner" because to me the term doesn't reflect his culinary artistry) behind Boffo Cart, and it's got a perfectly tender and slightly chewy consistency, and it's a little smoky from the grill. Besides the tomatoes/basil/mozzarella combo, we've tried butternut squash/goat cheese, butternut squash caponata, eggplant parmesan, trotter terrine, roasted turnips, caramlized onions/gorgonzola, potatoes/cheddar/truffles... they are all fantastic! Oh, the pulled pork sandwich is awesome too. The pulled pork is piled high on Acme buns with blue cheese dressed lettuce. For $6-8, you are getting a high quality and super satisfying meal, which is a pretty darn good value. I overheard that they will be at the soon-to-start Albany farmer's market on Wednesdays too... I live nearby the Montclair's Farmers Market but I wanted to try something new. I made the decision to drive out to Kensington today and check out the Farmers Market there. I walked around and got all the veggies and fruits that I needed. It was around lunch time and I was hungry. I saw some of the food being prepared at Boffo Cart and it looked pretty good. The menu was a little more interesting than just your usual food booth. So I thought, why not? Oh.My.God. Best decision of my life. I didn't even know my taste buds were dead until I tried a butternut squash piadine with roasted brussel sprouts and caramelized onion. All the flavors revived my sense of taste like I was eating a slice of food heaven. I'm a meat eater and I normally don't order just vegetarian sandwiches/paninis/piadines/pizza (I always feel like something is missing and I'm not full) but what I ordered was, hands down, one of the most amazing foods I've ever experienced and I didn't feel like anything was missing.
