This place is trash. I think DEXA body scans are good and they probably make sense, but BodySpec as a company and this location are garbage.
Initially, I tried to make my appointment and then I had to move it and I was able to call and move it with no problem. As expected, great. Then, I had a family emergency and I had to move my appointment again... I called and no response, I responded to the text reminder and no response. I tried to call five times, left a voicemail all five times, never got a call back. Then eventually just had to miss my appointment. Then when I finally rebooked and did go, the scan said that my body fat percentage was 28%, which is crazy because every other body fat measurement I've done in the past month, has said it was between 18% and 21%. That's either with the in-body scans, pinch fat method, and buoyancy methods.
It's just so bad and I don't know what happened, but I have a feeling it was because I was wearing my sweater and they didn't tell me to take my sweater off. When I finally got my results, I said, "hey, I think I should do another scan because this number sounds crazy. Like it doesn't make any sense." Then the operator proceeded to tell me that the machine uses the X-rays to determine my actual body weight, which is completely wrong!!!! That is not how DEXA machines work!!! So the people there didn't even know how their own machine does..... Then they refused to rescan me without my sweater.
There is actually a scale built into the machine that weighs you and the operator refused to acknowledge that for some weird reason. The math doesn't work on the DEXA scan unless it has a body weight for it to do calculations off off the density of your soft tissue. These people have no idea what they're doing! BodySpec has terrible customer support and overall the experience was just absolute dog shit. I will never go to a BodySpec ever again and I am a negative net promoter for anyone who asks me about this company and maybe even possibly DEXA scans as a whole. Ridiculous.
Edit: The owner responded saying that their machine derives mass from the xray scans. That doesn't make any sense. You can't get volumetric and density from xrays. It's physically derive mass from an xray. I haven't found a single journal article that states Dexa scans don't need a mass input. There is almost always a scale built into the table.
If I'm wrong then that's fine, but at this point I don't think the owner even knows how his machine works. read more
