THIS PLACE IS. AMAZING!!!! Honestly I travel for work and it was the best meal I had in a long time. AND THE DRINKS SO GOOD! I got the boar meatloaf, $23 and it was worth every penny. I substituted carrots for EXTRA wild mushrooms and it came with Gouda mashed potatoes that were perfect the meal came together amazing. We shared the fish tacos for an appetizer that were also really great with the drinks. A little on the expensive side for your average Joe but in my eyes worth every penny. Half off wine on Tuesdays which we took advantage of. Also, our waitress Natalia was the most pleasant and easy to talk to without being overbearing. Best service. LOVE! read more

Eat brunch here if you're interested in a good look but not if you want a high quality experience. If you don't get quick service after you've been seated walk the h out. Front of the house needs tighter supervision, host picks up the slack for the oblivious wait staff. Pulled in for a plate that was featured on their website, not available - website needs an update. Major disappointment was the oversight on how to properly cook an egg, hard boiled eggs benedict up in here. read more

I went to Bodega yesterday as part of a large group. We had terrible service from our waiter and our friends at a separate table had very rude service from their waitress. When one of them complained about not liking their cocktail ($14) they were told "not to expect it to taste like the ones at Olive Garden" because they're original recipes. At my table, none of us liked the overpriced cocktails (pricey does NOT equal good), and my table mate waited over 30 min for her drink, and was told "they're handcrafted so they take a while." Her drink never arrived! After 45 min. she just cancelled the order. The drinks and food that did arrive took a long time. My cocktail looked and tasted terrible--no garnish and no taste of the St. Germain or honey promised in the description. Fish tacos were good, the calamari was almost burnt, and the deviled eggs and pizza were just ok. Avoid this place unless you want terrible service and condescending treatment from staff. This dinner was meant to be a celebration, but Bodega did its best to take the fun out of it. I do not recommend this place. (Note--the restaurant will only split a bill six ways and adds a 20% gratuity automatically to large groups.) read more

Much better menu this time around. I was lucky enough to try it again on a Tuesday which is an all day happy hour. Sangria was 4$ and was very refreshing and hit the spot. I had the half salad half soup lunch option and was pretty impressed. The soup was a mushroom soup and the salad was the chopped salad with a nice buttermilk dressing. Had the chicken and waffles. It was like I ate yesterday's waffles on today's hot chicken. The waffles were cold and tasted a bit stale. Wife had chorizo and biscuits and she experienced similar thing. Hot chorizo on cold biscuits. I really like this place and maybe just caught them on an off day. Just be forewarned about the possibilities of your future dining experience. Other than that the service was good when it came to our waitress but the person that seated us took the chair that my wife had her purse on promised to return with purse holder. had dinner there last night. got there for a 7:30 reservation. perfect timing because by 8pm the place was full on busy. appetizer board of three items pate' excellent ham amazing salmon rillettes ehhhhh! main seared sushi grade tuna. med well served with white bean puree white wax beans, cherry tomatoes and baby potatoes. excellent desert pannacotta. amazing best part of the meal was our very gracious, very knowledgeable and extremely on point server "ashley" the restaurant is extremely fortunate to have such a fantastic employee. loved her!!!! one last point. please upgrade on your gin mixology. gin is the future!!!! ashley should get a bonus just because she is ashley. a truly wonderful person. enjoy your experience you will not be disappointed!!!! read more

I really do like the food here in a way it's worth the price, but it's definitely an every now and then place to go to if u don't like to spend a lot of money on food going out. I would highly recommend the mushroom and Swiss burger it was amazing!! I am very disappointed with how the employees do not know their menu. I called recently on 6/17/20, I asked the first woman who picked up to list their appetizers and she didn't know and told me to go to their Facebook page. So I did, they have menus as far as 2017, I call again with my order and the second lady Andrea told Me she "didn't think they had two of the appetizers that were posted on their menu" so I asked her to ask someone who does know and I had to wait another 5 mins. She came back, I said I wanted her to put an order in for fish tacos, then I wanted to know what was on the menu, she didn't know so she had to ask someone, I agin waited 10 more minutes. In the mean time I drove 25 mins to get to the restaurant to find out that she never placed my order for the fish tacos. She said I would have to wait another 25 minutes to have them made. I looked at my phone and I was on the phone for 21 mins with her. I was so upset that I traveled with my two kids and took me 25 mins to get there! I canceled my order immediately. The employees need to know their menu if they are going to work at this restaurant! read more

First time here, and having brunch here. Everything about it was fantastic. The environment was very nice, the food was very very delicious. We got the steak and migas, and the the OG burger. The steak and migas had an absolute flavory taste same with the OG burger. The fries were good but the ketchup, the ketchup is made in house and it's very delicious. Our server Frank was outstanding as well, he went out of his way and was very helpful on what to get on the menu. He took his time explaining how it was made and how fresh everything is in house. My go to spot for lunch or happy hour! They have really wonderful lunch specials with more than enough variety for everyone to enjoy! Their pastas are always perfectly cooked and flavorful. They cure and age their own meats in house so their charcuterie boards are unbeatable! Lastly their cocktails and so perfect crafted and their bartenders and so passionate and knowledgeable! The only downfall is that sometimes the service is a bit slow but as long as you're not in a rush it's worth it! read more

Good afternoon fellow yelpers, This morning, I decided to have brunch at this "fine" establishment. Little did I know the mediocre experience I would encounter at "Bodega". To begin with the waitress, who will remain anonymous, would visit the table seldomly (every 30 minutes). It was hard to order anything. It took roughly 20 minutes for our simple to make micheladas to come to us. And even longer for our biscuits and gravy, that tasted incredibly bland, to come out. When we requested mimosas an hour and half before the restaurant closed they told us "they ran out of the champagne", 30 minutes later I looked to my right to see a table being served a brand new container of their house mimosa. This will be the last time I take my business to Bodega, this was a waste of money, do not give them anymore business! read more

We tried Bodega for my friend's birthday. Lots of positives and just two minor things to keep in mind. First, you must order the crispy pork belly and truffle rosemary fries. The pork belly comes with an orange glaze and corn tortillas. Very delicious. I'm not always a fan of pork belly, but this has the perfect ratio of layered goodness. The fries are a nice crispness on the outside and soft on the inside. They are served with a house made ketchup that has a tangy kick - even better with the fries, ask for the smoked aioli, our server brought us out some to try and it was ketchup's sophisticated cousin. I had the ribeye, it was well seasoned, cooked to perfection ( I enjoy it medium rare) and came with puréed potatoes, of which I wish there was more. They were very creamy. Also came with grilled carrots that were well cooked and still maintained a nice bite to them. My friend has the shrimp and scallops risotto, I don't like scallops personally, but they seemed to be delicious, seeing as how he practically inhaled them. The risotto was creamy. Okay, the only rub - soda and tea come in 8-10 ounce glasses with a ton of ice and there are no refills. Paying a little over two dollars per drink was not cool. Also, if you are a little on the chunky side like me, the chairs there are not your friends. Just be ready to be uncomfortable if you get chairs. read more

It took them around 10 min. to get our order for drink, and then we waited about another 10 min for them to tell us they couldn't make one of the drinks we order because they were missing an ingredient. We also ordered their guacamole sampler (3 types of guac) supposed to be chef's choice of the day and it was the worst 3 avocado mixed I've had. It felt like they just threw whatever ingredients they had together and the flavors did not compliment avocados well. Asparagus and avocado, goat cheese and avocado and whatever sweet and sour stir fry and avocado were all disappointing. We tried to order pizza afterward and were told they also did not have pizza. Great atmosphere, good food and amazing service. This was our first visit here and was excited to try this place out, a few coworkers recommend the place and it did not disappoint. We visited on a Thursday night, about 30% capacity and everyone was well spaced out. Burgers were great and the kids loved the cheese pizza. Also highly recommend the Pork Belly App, they are served with one of the best corn tortillas I've ever had! Could have just eaten a dozen of those and been fine. Love their front patio, especially for brunch or a drink after dusk. Although it is a bit bare (ex: empty wall planters). Could use a little more attention to detail. The restaurants inside is great. Went with my girlfriend visiting from out of town for brunch. Both of our meals: the eggs benedict and blue corn pancakes, were very well presented and just as flavorful. We also tried the bellinis and micheladas, also great. It was pretty quiet for a Sunday late morning with no wait for indoor or outdoor seating (I sense the brunch crowd is slowly catching on down here). Also our server was kind and attentive. Only thing that caught us off guard was our $80 check. We weren't made aware of the upcharges on the drinks we ordered. Quite a pricey breakfast, but we did have a great time. I would definitely return the next time I'm in the mood for a more pampered breakfast experience, but be more conscious of our menu selections. read more

Bodega is probably one of my favorite kitchens to come to in McAllen, Texas. The food NEVER EVER disappoints even on their busiest days. Their brunch menu is all mouth watering where the problem lays in the difficulty in choosing what you're going to indulge in. I went with the chicken and waffles, and all I can say is WOW. For Happy hour, I mix it up with the 1$ grilled oysters, 50 cent wings & truffle fries (from their appetizer menu). Great place, good vibe & great attentive service. read more

I had an awesome time at bodega! The staff was very attentive of our questions and needs; They know their menu inside out, and will not hesitate to explain anything to you. The drinks are creative, but well made as they find a right balance of variety and flavors (their "paloma" is a must-try). Furthermore, their food is great! I only had a limited number of items, but that alone was enough to tell me just how fresh their food is. I started off with the deep fried mollejas-- flavorful yet surprisingly not "greasy" like regular deep fried items. I also had beet fries, brussle sprouts, and oysters, which I am not a big fan of, but somehow tasted amazing to me! The oysters had a tangible, meaty texture compared to the rubbery mess that I remember from other places. Overall, if you're looking for a nice restaurant that is both elegant and bold, you should definitely try Bodega. read more

This place is somewhat new, from what I've been told, about a month. This location has been used for various other concepts and I think so far this one has gotten it right. The decor is on point, it's simple and fancy without being pretentious. It gives a very "San Francisco" vibe with the low lighting and retro fixtures. The meat curing room ugh hello awesome, and there's also an outdoor area which is nice. As far as the food, and drinks, I went with their recommendation of pork belly and a tiki specialty drink. The drink was fresh and well made. The food was reasonably priced. As far as my pork belly it was well cooked but a bit bland. However I am giving it 5 stars because it's a standout by valley standards and because the service was great. Will definitely be checking out this place a lot more. read more

Great hidden gem of McAllen! Visited here for my birthday after I saw them pop up in my Instagram feed and I keep returning for the Bodega burger! It is honestly the greatest burger I have ever eaten in my entire life! The atmosphere is very cool and relaxing, a bit intimidating at first, but once you try the food you'll be hooked! I'm always looking for new place while traveling the RGV. A friend of mine told me to stop here so I did. The exterior/porch is modern which sets it's self apart from the strip center it's located in. Walking in, the modern/clean look continues. I sat at the bar and was kindly greeted. They were advertised to have a wine tasting that evening but never saw or told of it. After some time, I ordered the market pizza. It was simple, yet fresh. It was explained that they change their pizza frequently which I liked. That day it was fresh veggies and grilled chicken. I made a few modifications which were respected. I enjoyed the pizza. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that service was slow. Very friendly, but slow. The bartender did not seem well versed in the menu as well. Few tweaks and they could have a great restaurant. I wanted to give this 3.5 stars but couldn't, so 4 stars it is. I recently dined here with some friends, the atmosphere was very relaxing and modern, and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Our dinner didn't start that great because our drinks weren't as good as the waitress told us. Two of us got the chupacabra cocktail and it was too smoky, kinda difficult to drink, not because it was strong but it felt like we were inhaling mesquite smoke. The appetizers arrived and they were delicious, my favorite app was the fish tacos, and the beet dish, they were both full of flavor and tasted fresh! For my entree I ordered the hangar steak, which lacked a bit of salt, and the arugula salad that came with it was too salty, the fries were good but over seasoned with pepper, and I didn't like the ketchup that much, it had a lot of cumin. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked the right way. The red fish tasted fresh, but didn't taste anything else on the plate. We ordered 2 of the desserts, the pastry chef was nice enough to explain them to us, and also too kind to give us a taste of the bread pudding. They were all really good, but the fennel ice cream was tooooo gooooood! I would totally go back just for that! read more

Love love love this place! I'm always looking for really good (non-chain) food in the Valley, and having lived in NYC, my standards are high. And Bodega hit the mark. I went with my parents at the beginning of September, so they had either just switched to a more "fall" menu or were about to. I had the delicious jalapeño tequila cocktail and a pork loin dish that will go down in my book as one of my favorite meals of all time. Our server was lovely; she explained the menu nicely and offered suggestions and recommendations when appropriate. The atmosphere is great - you don't feel like you're in a strip mall on 10th! Can't wait to go back and try another dish at Bodega (or get the pork loin dish over and over until the seasonal menu changes!). read more
