My work friend and I were in McAllen for a couple of days and we saw Bodega while driving by. It looked interesting form the outside so we checked it out on Yelp. Good reviews drew us in but we were totally blown away by this place. The owner/chef greeted us at the bar and we were introduced to their generous Happy Hour drink specials and clever menu. They allowed us to sample a few wines before we made our selections and we ordered the Deviled Eggs small plate and the flat bread of the day. Both were delicious. I ordered one of their hand crafted cocktails that was a spin on a Manhattan but made with house made beet liqueur. Amazing! They make their own ice blocks for craft cocktails and the presentation is very cool. Next we shared an heirloom tomato salad, a charcuterie platter that included some fine aged cheeses and some amazing chicken liver pate. We ended with a small order of fish tacos. Hands down best place for quality food & drink in McAllen. I've been to to all the expensive, well known restaurants in town and they don't compare to the value at Bodega. Quality food, top notch craft beer selection and passionately crafted cocktails by the best bartenders in the valley. All at fair prices. Went during happy hour. The Garlic Shrimp pasta was tasty, though the shrimp was a tad over-cooked. The Bodega burger tasted like something I've had at Burger King. Wanted to get a classic drink and didn't like it, (a Toms Collins, simple enough drink), it was way too bitter and when I sent it back I still got charged for it even when I asked. $50 was not worth it. The setting is fantastic! The concept even better what hurt our 1st experience was the service. After dropping off our food our sever disappeared for a good while. After getting her attention the first time she disappeared again and we had to ask another server to call her. Bartender told me "cool" when I told him I just killed a bug on the bar. Usually love this place but that was rude.

I went with a group of people and we were sat at a high-top table with stools. I didn't like that the stools didn't have a back to lean back on which was making me nervous after a delicious drink (super picky but I was also getting tired of having to sit up the whole time!). I loved the drink I had, the Moscow Mule, which was like enjoying a natural lemon raspa. I'm still craving another and this drink is perfect for those that don't enjoy tasting the alcohol in drinks. Very good drink but somewhat pricey, $10. I tried the Deviled Eggs as an appetizer and was really disappointed with the small portion. For an entree, I had the Hangar Steak, which was a great portion and lovely presentation but it was kinda bland. The service was just okay. I did like the clean, simple look of the restaurant. Considering the priciness of the restaurant, I would definitely go back for maybe one drink but that's about it. read more

What a nice addition to the Valley! They try to source as much as possible locally and have an herb garden on their patio. Also, they cure their own meats which are pretty amazing. The drinks are inventive and well made. You can tell the bartenders are passionate about their craft which is very refreshing to see. Aldo at the bar was very informative and explained the concept behind each drink and menu item I chose. My only critiques would be the menu layout and the website. The menu is designated snacks, veggies, mains and desserts but having the word "snack" makes someone think small. Most of these items were meal sized and priced and it would be nice to have something actually tapas portioned so that you could enjoy an entree/main as well. The website has a great, modern look but is not updated as often as their printed menu so I was looking forward to a couple items I found online that weren't available. It is really nice to have a changing menu, however, it is nicer to have that reflected on your website. Overall this place is well done and I'll definitely be back! read more

The food is great. I'm disappointed with several of the waitresses. They need to learn to have a smile and a servitude mentality. I asked who the manager was and they pointed out a young lady that seemed annoyed and as I observed her she has no customer service skills. A first impression is a lasting impression. Being from the customer service business I think you need to take a close look at who you have serving your customers. read more

This is a very nice place something different for the Valley. In the dress code description it said dressy, but my friends and I did feel very over dressed. Bodega has a very casual laid back feeling. The menu is not at all diner friendly. Descriptions for dishes was confusing and filled with words as if to impress other chefs. We had the mixed style calamari and the calabcitas from the appetizer section. Both were ok, one dish was very spicy without any indication in the menu. We decided not to order anything else and stick with drinks. Overall limited menu,good service, and a nice place fro drinks. read more
