I was very excited that we had the opportunity to look at their wine selection (available for purchase) while we waited for our food. However, when I food came I was even more excited especially for this spinach empanada. I would say that was the highlight of our visit. It was 10/10 one of the best empanadas that has ever reached my mouth. We split a burrito and sandwich which were good, but I think when we come back I would definitely try out all the empanadas. My friend and I were walking down the Southport Ave when we saw Bodega Sur and decided and eat here on a whim and oh boy, we couldn't be more right. I got the kids' meal - mini steak and eggs. 4 oz steak with quinoa/potato hash browns, eggs with CHIMICHURRI SAUCE, the awesome Argentinean specialty. The steak was perfect portion for my ravenous yet small stomach, the quinoa/hash browns were extremely delicious - crunchy, right amount of spicy and incredibly savory. Fried egg was great and went well with everything. This meal would have 12/10 perfect had I not been so adventurous and ordered the mate traditional drink. Imagine your most bitter green tea and now multiply that by 50 times and you get mate traditional. I am a mate-ignoramus and hope to remain so after this close encounter. My friend got chilaquiles and not gonna lie but it was the best I ever tasted. Anyway, 12/10 for my meal. 15/10 for the chimichurri sauce. Honestly, this was a great find on my last trip to Chicago. It's sweet and intimate...perfect for digging into some wine and food with your peeps. They have a pretty big food menu with plenty of tasty Argentinian options for your dietary needs or taste bud desires. I wanted to take my husband out for dinner and when the place we really wanted to go to was slammed, we decided on Bodega Sur. The menu looked good so we decided to give it a try. I love me a good skirt steak and just very soft and tender food so I really had high hopes that whatever we ordered here would be mouth watering and delicious. My husband and I are huge skirt steak lovers but unfortunately I was disappointed. The meat was not soft but rather hard to chew and once I start getting pieces of meat stuck in my teeth, I stop eating because it's not ladylike for me to start taking out pieces of meat out of my mouth. The best thing on the menu was the sweet potato fries. It my first date with my husband post second baby and I was just SO annoyed that our food was not as great as I expected it to be that I didn't have the energy to complain to the waitress, I just wanted to get outta there. We got the empanadas but I was really not impressed, they lacked that extra umpf that would make them special and they weren't as flavorful as I expected them to be. I absolutely love Chilango's empanadas and they can't even begin to compare to the quality and flavor of Chilango. It could be that for individuals that don't want a kick of flavor, these could be great but not for me. That is why I highly recommend you check them out for yourself because we all have different taste buds and expectations. My friend and I visited Bodega Sur before heading to a Cubs game on Saturday. Since I have eaten at Tango Sur often and and the reviews were glowing my expectations were high. When the server arrived we got ordered Sangrias and Torta's as recommended by the server. While we enjoyed the Sangria (7/10 I've had better but I wasn't mad at it) But the Torta's were damn near inedible. We politely expressed to the server our displeasure with the meal and to our surprise she refused to replace the order with another item. She went on to tell us "no one else has ever complained" " not enjoying the Torta's as a personal preference", and she would not remove it from the bill or offer another item in its place. Keep in mind that we had only taken a single bite when we're informed her the food was not good. My husband and I dine out often and I have never been treated so poorly! This woman who claimed to be the manager clearly doesn't value customers and should not be working there. Safe to say I will not be coming back and I encourage you to choose another place to eat! read more

When visiting an Argentine restaurant, it's never wrong to order all of the meat! loved this spot we ended up visiting when Tango Sur had a long wait. We ended up next to the window and had a delicious meal. We decided to split everything bc we couldn't decide on just one thing each. We had empanadas (bc of you go to an Argentine restaurant you have empanadas). Honestly, they were fined but the other items we ordered certainly shined in comparison. The crust was heavy and the filling was slightly bland. But the were disappointing just not superlative. We shared the steak- which was perfectly cooked and delicious. It came with garlicky and yummy chimichurri - highly recommend. The sausage board was a great way to experience all of the options. I loved all but one, but my companion enjoyed all of them. Had a lovely food experience here but knocked off a star as they seemed understaffed during the Saturday brunch and we waited a good 20 minutes before having to walk up to the wait staff to get our check. When we arrived before 10:00AM it was pretty empty, maybe only 1-2 other tables full. By the time we left a little after 11, it was bustling and it seemed like every table was full. I had heard lots of good things about Tango Sur, but when I got there, the wait time was about an hour and a half and we were hungry. One of the servers at Tango told us that Bodega Sur was owned by the same people and it had a pretty similar menu. The big difference was that they served wine there, instead of having the free uncorking/byow set up like Tango Sur. It was actually a great decision to come to Bodega Sur. The space is cozy and chic, with incredible mood lighting and cool deep house music. Both the hostess and server were Spanish-English bilingual, and very friendly and attentive, I really appreciated them. My mom and I ordered the beef empanadas and a morcilla for starters, both of which were excellent. Morcilla is an acquired taste, so just beware. The empanadas were packed with flavorful beef and the dough was crispy and tasty. Then we ordered the asado de tira and mashed potatoes. The asado de tira is HUGE, I think 2-3 people would be satisfied sharing 1 plate. It was expertly cooked medium rare, lovely seasoning and the chimichurri really brought out the flavor. The mashed potatoes were also amazing - like, no joke, they were so good, creamy and flavorful even though it's such a simple dish. The asado de tira comes with a tomato and onion salad that nicely balances the boldness of the beef. We really couldn't finish everything, so we skipped dessert. This was a huge meal and it was very reasonably priced, especially given the quality and quantity of food. This is a first choice! I still gotta try Tango Sur, but head over to Bodega Sur as your 1st choice. read more

We did a tasting: split 3 empanadas, ham & cheese, chicken (not the usual boring plain chicken but well seasoned,) and sweet beef with the best chimichurri I've ever had. The open-faced sandwich trio, each one excellent but the prosciutto with lemony goat cheese was the best. And the lomita sandwich was amazing with sweet potatoes fries. We skipped the "salsa golf" (he said ketchup/mayo) and used the chimichurri instead and I was in heaven. Then the fantastic Bloody Mary with fantastic bacon in it. Hands down best chimmi I have ever had. I came last Saturday night with my girlfriend and a friend of ours. We had a reservation, but it took a minute to get someone's attention to get seated. First bad review I have written. My friends and I stopped in to get some drinks and appetizers mid-afternoon. Although the place was nearly empty, we waited at the hosts station for a while to be seated (as workers were standing, chatting). Once we were seated we did not receive our menus until asking. We ordered fries and drinks immediately. When we told the waitress we would not be ordering a main entree, she informed us that there is a 20 min limit, which we kindly obliged to. We felt very rushed by the staff as they watched us in the empty restaurant. Within 15 minutes of receiving our food and drinks, a buss boy sternly told us that they needed the table, while the other tables were notably empty around us. We were given no check-ins or any warnings beforehand. Every worker with whom we interacted was very curt and unkind. The food was also ill-prepared and cold. This review is for lunch on the weekend during COVID. When you walk up to the front of Bodega Sue, you'll see a wall of wine that lines a whole wall. The seating is comfortable and relaxing. Their wait staff is world class. They are some of the nicest people in the industry. They don't come to the table too much or too little and have this kindness approach to their service! I loved the staff. The food is insanely amazing. We got the cheese, pepper spread with bread for our appetizer (highly recommend). All i can say is fresh and wow... My family and I got the rib eye, lamb and 14 oz steak. All of these were cooked to perfection and the presentation was perfect. The sauce that comes with the meat takes the flavors to a whole new level. We also got grilled veggies which were amazing wonderful. My Mom couldn't stop raving about their mojitos. They are sweet with just the right amount of garish mint. The drink was fresh and made perfectly. Their menu is so large. You can order anything on any menu through the day. Since the restaurant is small, get there early or be prepared to wait for a bit. Bodega Sur has become a favorite of mine. I've come early on the weekends and during the week and I've never had to wait for a table. This place is small and cozy. I definitely enjoy sitting and relaxing in here. It's never been too loud and it has a very casual and chill vibe. Everything I've ordered has been delicious from here. I definitely recommend the sangria! I've also had the lomito sandwich, the salmon soup (I know, but it's actually quite tasty), and the steak and eggs. Obviously steak is my go-to meat here. That's because it's always flavorful and cooked perfectly! Service is always good and although I think things move a bit slower here than at other restaurants, I never feel forgotten about.
