Too Noisy!!!! My friend and I had to keep repeating everything we said and couldn't have a decent conversation. The empanadas were ok, nothing special, but the octopus was really awful, tasted old. We both love octopus, but this was off. The waitress did not have a menu for the wines by the glass. She told us a list of the varietals, but didn't know the vintner. I had to get up and go to the bar to read the list of wines and vintners on a blackboard. The meat dishes looked good, but we didn't have them. Must try: - El Filet: If you've had it at Tango, it's the same delish red wine sauce but is served with asparagus. (If you miss the spinach mashed you can sub that) - The Choriboard: If you like sausage at ALL you MUST try this plate. - The pickled eggplant: Surprisingly nomnomnom - The carpaccio: the best I've ever had, hands down. The only thing I haven't liked thus far is the octupus app - weird flavors or maybe just not to my taste. I came here for brunch and can't say enough great things about the food. I was so pleasantly surprised that everything we got was fantastic, and reasonably priced, too. My absolute favorite were the empanadas. I've lived in Buenos Aires a few years ago and these are some of the best empanadas I've had since being in Argentina. Went here for brunch today. The good news: the food is great (unlike Tango Sur). The bad news: the service is slow (just like Tango Sur). Great Chai Latte. The Croissant Sandwich was delicious. Nice, flaky, buttery croissant, the bacon was perfectly cooked and crispy, the eggs (I had them scrambled) were also cooked perfectly. Best part of the dish: the sliced tomatoes and avocados on the side. They were sprinkled with some herb and after I added a hint of salt, they were delicious. Server was very nice but very slow. We ordered our coffee and my dining companion said go ahead and order your food and I'll decide while you're ordering and, instead, the server left after taking our drink order. We had to flag him down near the end to get our check, even though we were sitting by the computer where they put in the orders! BUT, that being said, the food is great. Being big fans of tango sur we had great expectations for this place, unfortunately we just had an ok experience. The Lomito sandwich was very bland and not close in flavor to a lomito sandwich that you could taste in Argentina. The choripan was ok, the chorizo did not have chard flavor which is characteristic from Argentinian chorizo cooked in a more traditional way. Thank goodness for the chimichurri sauce and the empanadas that are the same you can find at tango sur. I give it three stars because they actually have a decent selection of wine that actually alludes to the purpose of this place (bodega). read more

The marinated white mushrooms (HONGOS EN ESCABECHE) in particular, are one of the most delicious things my tongue has ever tasted and my teeth have ever bitten into. They have a wonderful texture. Traditionally I have loved Bodega Sur, but after last night I will not go back. I made a reservation for my brothers birthday weeks ago. (Something I have done before.) We arrived last night to find a packed restaurant with no empty tables. I told the man who greeted us that we had a reservation. He asked for me name. Checked a book at the stand and then looked around at the packed room. He then grabbed two mismatched tables (in size and height) that could barely sit 4 people and crowded 6 chairs around it. When questioning the man he then claimed that they don't take reservations and never had. He was so incredibly rude about the whole thing that we just left. So disappointing as this was an establishment that I have been to a million times and historically loved. read more

Unfortunately,I've had enough of the poor service and condescending attitude of the manager at Bodega Sur. I want to emphasize that it is the manager and not the servers or bartender that I'm referring to. I've enjoyed many meals there, and the food has always been excellent. I also stop by 5 days a week to get fresh rolls of bread (50 cents a piece but worth it). The last time I stopped for bread, the manager was standing behind the bar and said, you know the bread is 50 cents each. As if I walk into a restaurant and expect free bread? The waitress told him I come all the time for bread and he said, " she's paying 50 cents each does she know that". Really? A week later, I placed a phone order to go. Got home and the charcuterie plate had literally 6 slices of meat, 3 pieces of cheese and came with 5 crackers. $14 for that? I wish I took a picture so you all could know I'm not exaggerating. Anyway, my husband brought the plate back- not rude or upset, just asked "is this what the charcuterie plate is supposed to look like?" The manager stared at him and said "Yup". My husband placed the plate on the counter and told him to keep it. We didn't ask for our money back or anything. He ran after us outside, only to tell us that we were ignorant of the quality of the meats and how much they cost. We continued to leave. The he CALLED my husbands cell phone, and continued to berate and insult us and told us that neither of us were welcome in the restaurant again. Well at that point my husband had choice words of his own to say. I was in shock because as I said, we didn't make a scene or ask for our money back. I don't know if that guy is part of the family that owns the place, but I hope they get it together. read more
