The colorful décor and nostalgic touches throughout the dining room create a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels more like sharing a meal with family than dining out. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and I appreciated that they were bilingual, making everyone feel comfortable and at home. We shared the Bandeja La Casa del Mofongo con Tostones, loaded with chicharrón de puerco, chicharrón de pollo, masitas de cerdo, salami, and queso. At $22.99, the portion was incredibly generous and easily large enough to share. The meats were flavorful and well-prepared, with the pork perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. The tostones were fried to perfection! If you're craving authentic Dominican cuisine , La Casa del Mofongo is definitely a place worth adding to your list.

And the parking lot out front is very busy. Past the entrance, there's a sit down dining room and even a full bar. We seated ourselves. They brought over menus. It helps to have a bit of Spanish here. I ordered their shrimp in garlic sauce (camarones al ajillo). The shrimp in sauce was on a separate plate. For sides, it came with yellow rice mixed with veggies and sweet plantains (maduro) . I could have scooped up the garlic sauce with a spoon -- absolutely delicious! The shrimp were firm and fresh. The plantains nicely caramelized and sweet. My husband got a beef steak with onions. He said it was a little dry. I happily shared some of my garlic sauce with him. And that helped. I really want to go back and try some of their other dishes -- there were some things displayed that I didn't see on the printed menu. I'll remember this lunch for some time.

Back when they used to focus only on their food. Last visit, my Cuban sandwich was absolutely gross, the bread was rock hard, the pernil was super dry, and the cheese wasn't even melted. I let that one slide and chalked it up to the kitchen having a bad day. However, yesterday was even more horrendous experience. I've been Puerto Rican my entire life lol. Almost 50 years of existence. I have never in my life encountered a more soggy greasy and squishy Chicharron as I did yesterday. It was an absolute abomination. A disgrace to all of Latin heritage. The little bits of meat were rock hard and burnt to a crisp. What's supposed to be crispy skin, was completely soggy and soft. As if it had never been cooked at all. I have no idea how you could get the meat burnt to a crisp and the skin completely soggy on pork belly. I'm completely appalled the fact that it was even given to me. Whoever was in the kitchen should have known better than to serve that slop. It's an embarrassment to the establishment to even have put that into the window to be given to a customer. There's absolutely no way the person in the kitchen knows what they're doing with Latin food if that was served. It deeply saddened me to say I'll never go back to this place again. Not even for a beer. Seeing as how the prices have skyrocketed and the food quality has gone into the toilet I'll pass. Thank you.(pictures taken before the Chicharron was given to the dogs as a snack, because even bad food doesn't go to waste in my house)

Open arriving at the parking lot and seeing how deserted the place was, I had a feeling in my gut we had chosen the wrong spot. Came in and we're sat right away. There was only another couple dining in at that time, on a Saturday at 6:30pm. Against my better judgement, we sat down and browsed the menu. We decided to order and make the best of our evening. The menu had several dishes that didn't sound like a bad idea. Service was great but then again, it was just us. Lol. We dined in for approximately an hour and within that time, another couple came in. Appetizers and courses came out very quickly. We had the yuca empanadas for our appetizer. They were really greasy but not horrible. For our main course, I had the mofongo stuffed with churrasco and a side of tostones, my husband had the fried pork chunks with white rice and red beans. My churrasco was a bit fatty and chewy and the mofongo was on the dryer side. We both ordered cocktails, they were both very heavy on the alcohol but not too bad. I'm almost certain we will not be visiting again but I'm glad we checked them off of our list.

Let me start my review by saying the food was really good and worthy of a 5 star rating on its own…read more BUT...my experience with this resturant is a classic example of how service can just take away from the food quality. My work colleagues and I were greeted by a friendly host and sat at a table. But everything from service went down hill from there when our actual table server arrived. We were immediately greeted with "You ready", with a frowned face. We asked for water with lemon (never received) and was later served water from a pitcher (without lemons) only later to see an adjacent table served water from a picture with lemon and orange slices. Didn't make much of that. But when our waiter returned to take our order the second time, again with the same "you ready" frown faced I asked for help with the menu. I could hear her sigh so loud I wanted not to believe the feeling that we were bothering her in some way; and there was maybe only a quarter of the tables with customers. After placing our orders I asked my colleagues if they were getting the same vibe as I was from her and they both felt the same way. From my seating angle I could see this young lady server when she approached the front bar/seating area of the restaurant; which appeared to be where the other waiters all gathered when waiting. But I noticed her smiling and engaging in friendly conversation with two customers sitting at the bar. I noticed this difference from how she treated us vs these other guest throughout the entire time. With them she was smiling, engaging and not in any flirtatious way, but seemingly just being nice....being a good waiter. Clearly she was choosing NOT to be nice to us, and this bothered me internally because I did not know why. Our friendly greeter from when we arrived was seen serving another table and whose behavior was consistently friendly with everyone. So why the difference with our waiter I kept asking myself. I still gave a generous tip despite this service. It was important to me to do so, but I probably won't be back here, and this would have been a nice place to go back to with mi amor.

If you've never heard of Sushi Aplatanao, you're in for a treat! FoodTok FL is a food truck…read morebringing a bold and creative fusion of Dominican and Japanese flavors, and trust me--it's not your average sushi spot. The term "aplatanao" is Dominican slang for being deeply connected to Dominican culture, and that's exactly what this sushi is: a Dominicanized take on Japanese sushi, packed with flavor and personality. Forget raw fish and delicate flavors--this sushi is all about big, bold, and cooked ingredients that blend the best of both worlds. Some of the signature Dominican touches include: - Sweet plantains (maduros) for a little natural sweetness - Fried cheese, because, well, cheese makes everything better - Salami, adding that smoky, savory Dominican touch - Guacamole, swapping out wasabi for a creamy, flavorful kick - Churrasco (grilled steak), giving sushi a hearty twist - Chicken (fried chicken), for those rolls that love white meat Wrapped up in sushi rice and nori, then topped with house-made sauces, the result is a delicious mix of sweet, savory, crispy, and creamy flavors in every bite. A Must-Try: The Villa Juana | Domi Roll One of their standout rolls is the Villa Juana Roll, named after a well-known Dominican neighborhood. It's got fried cheese, sweet plantains, Dominican salami, and a drizzle of their special sauce, making it a perfect example of this fusion style. Every bite is an explosion of flavors that'll have you questioning why sushi didn't always taste like this! If that doesn't appeal you, then just go for their traditional rolls in the box, such as Spicy Tuna, Kalifornia, Salmon roll, JB roll, etc. Service it's amazing and both the chef and the sous chef are great hosts.
