In the area for work and walked past here so decided to try it out. Asked the bartender what was good and without hesitation he said the Rubens. I got the Pusan Ruben which has kimchi instead is sourkraut. It was out of this world delicious. You can tell the brisket is cooked in house and all the flavors came together. We sat at the bar but if your at a table you have to walk up and order from the bar that caused it be be a tad loud when busy but great food and a great beer selection.

Stopped in for lunch for the first time as we live nearby (we moved here recently). I was hesitant to eat here/stop in as I was put off by all the dusty beer bottles in the window. But once inside I realized those bottles are in an enclosed space in the storefront window display and the inside is wide open, tidy and clean. A really pleasant surprise! The menu was appealing, prices are fair and the service was good. Of the 2 sandwiches we ordered, the BLT was bland with the bacon too crisp for my taste but it was otherwise fine, but the other sandwich, the Cuban, was given high marks. Overall, this seems like a solid choice for lunch in downtown.

I stopped here when I was visiting my daughter and son-in-law a couple of months back. We are taking a bike ride and decided to stop in for a beer. I checked in on Yelp and guess what! A coupon for half off and appetizer! So we got the pretzel. It was huge and it was delicious. They have a lot of beers on tap and it's a cool building.

Stopped in on Christmas Day about noon... was there a couple hours, the place just got busier as the day went on. I've been meaning to stop in since I moved my mom to the area a few years ago. I got the vibe the Bodega is an Institution! I love the old tap handles, coasters and world money that adorn numerous places! Elizabeth took great care of us...offering beer samples and making a delicious Old Fashioned! We didn't dine on the $15 holiday meal as this was a stop as our dinner cooked @ home. I liked that the tap lists are on overhead TV's and broke out by lists, such as Christmas beers. There was a good selection; the local breweries, several WI breweries and just good breweries from around the US and a few high ABV imports. The stool seating are regular height bar stools, so easy to hop on to and padded, thanks. The place never got annoyingly loud as it got busier, thanks! I love the whole wall of floor to ceiling windows! Street parking was easy and w a convenient 2 hour limit. Now that I've finally made it in I will definitely be in when I come to town. Thanks Bodega and Elizabeth for a fantastic inaugural visit, cheers!

Best La Crosse beer bar Must stop when I'm in town I'm the Duke for now La Crosse is a really fun city to visit. Great people, great scenery (for the Midwest, anyways) and given that it's in Sconnie - a pretty big drinking culture. There are a ton of dive bars in town, but if you are a beer geek like me then it is the place to be. As their sign says, 400 beers, 15 taps and open 366 days a year. They are also open until 2:30 in the morning. I thought bar close in Sconnie was two, but apparently there a few places that keep rocking until 2:30 at least in La Crosse. Staff has been super friendly every time that I have been. On my visit today, they hooked me up with a little taster of a $170 bottle of champagne. Tasted like $20 champagne to me, but the gesture was much appreciated.

We are new in town and wanted to try out some local brews. Based on the reviews, we decided to pop in and give this place a chance. They offer a HUGE selection of bottled/canned beers, I believe over 400 of them, and 20 beers on tap! They serve typical brew pub fare that hits the spot. We decided to order the Braunschweiger & Onion sandwich (since it's a classic Wisconsin sandwich). The sandwich was very tasty, I highly recommend it, and the richness of the sandwich really compliments beer. We visited on a Monday night and it happened to be their weekly trivia night. We ended up staying for over 2 hours sampling beers, grabbing a bite, participating in trivia, and having a blast. The atmosphere was welcoming and casual. The staff is super friendly and informative (lots of good beer suggestions). They don't have their own parking lot so you would have to find street parking. I recommend checking this place out and I would gladly return.

I thought I'd visit a recommended dive bar with a great beer selection and good sandwiches. Great afternoon drinking spot. Great service from Matt who had some very good recommendations for local beers on tap as well as sandwiches that the locals love. I ordered the AVOCUBANO -- a bit of a twist on their Cubano. Fresh ham, roasted pork shoulder, Swiss, sliced dill pickle, homemade guacamole on a Fayze's sub roll. It was great. I also ordered a CHILI DOG made with St. Joe's Meat's 1/4 pound Bodega dog, homemade chili, topped with onion and cheddar. I was good, chili could have used more spice. Matt was more than accommodating when asked to give a couple of samples of beers on tap from the area. Great place to hang out and do some work on your computer. Great furniture layout to just read a book with a great beer. The only drawback is, and I know it's a dive bar, they need to work on their bathroom.

Visited here this past Friday during the day.... The GOOD: The grilled cheese sandwich was made with turkey, how I requested. The bathrooms were clean. There are also many beers on tap and lunch specials. Oh and my other friend enjoyed her fish sandwich on brioche. The BAD: The buffalo chicken pizza had wayyyy too much bleu cheese...my BFF and I agree on that. The service was meh. They tried, but it wasn't busy and they could not keep up. The UGLY: The mixed drinks are TERRIBLE! Stick to tap. I had both the Bloody Mary and Peach Sangria...both very bad. I requested a medium heat Bloody Mary, as did my friend. After watching the bartender make another, I see why I hated it. She had NO CLUE what she was doing! At one point she added sriracha! That is a very specific ingredient and should not be added to a standard Bloody Mary without asking the patron. The Peach Sangria was weak and full of meh-looking canned fruit...oh and a fork! I guess to eat the fruit? No thank you. All in all, if you stick to beer and wine you will be ok. The food is variable. Good luck with that!

Our experience here was less than desirable. Service was super slow. The food we ordered was burned and half was never delivered. Beers were pricey and tasteless (how do IPAs NOT have much taste?? ). Old fashioned was made with cinnamon Schnapps (what the heck??). The atmosphere was very neat (super old building with tons of charm), and they seemed to be dog friendly (I met a wonderful pup...most definitely the highlight of our visit). I honestly cannot comprehend how this place has such high reviews on Yelp.....severely disappointed. Save your maoney and time and find a different place to dine and drink.

Very friendly bartender. Went around 11am in a Sunday, sucks they didn't have like a brunch/mimosas option but still very good. They had supposedly over 400 beers! Amazing! Only had an appetizer with a buddy and this place mango salsa was delicious but their guacamole sucked. It was pretty brown. If it was gonna come out this way than they shouldn't have offered it to me. They should've just left it out. I would've given it a 5 if it wasn't for that brown guac. So sad to be honest. LoL their beer was Fuckn amazing! Went down so smooth and has beer from all these different breweries and different locations from all over Cali! Loving it!! Next time I will go back to try their better lunch and dinner options. Y'all should try this Forsure!! Most extensive beer folder, could get some organization too though. Maybe by region or type of beer or alphabetical.

Confusing. That is the way I would describe our experience. I really wish they had table service because there is not any signage to tell you that you have to go to the bar to get your drink and then go to a separate window to get your food. The food was okay, the best thing we got was the pesto bruchetta. The Yelp Check-in offer is half off apps but the guy running the counter had never heard of Yelp or knew about this offer--annoying. Owners, if you are going to have a deal like Yelp, tell you staff about it for cryin' out loud. So, the staff was not friendly and down right rude when I asked the bartender to change the soap in the bathroom. Um, gross, how are your employees washing their hands? I would probably pass on this place the next time in LaCrosse. read more

The best of the best in La Crosse. Where we usually start or finish our night. The food and food specials are great. Pulled pork sliders for $2 each on Mondays is a must. Spin the bike wheel to get a random beer. Free popcorn to throw at your friends. And the bathrooms don't smell too bad. read more

Whenever I am in La Crosse "The Bodega" as it is known locally is a must stop. Huge selection of fantastic (and some not so fantastic) beers, ales, stouts, porters, and IPA's. There is something for EVERYONE here even if they are stuck in the world of American Macro Beers. There are literally hundreds of beers in stock. The environment is fun and the location is right downtown and just a block or two from the river. Some weekends local bands play some tunes and the owner is knowledgeable and well traveled. Since Wisconsin (finally) went smoke free, there is no reason NOT to go here and try a rare brew from a distant land or a favorite you have in mind. read more

I was in LaCrosse for a wedding, and we came here every night to drink. Good food, and great bartenders. It was so much cheaper than anything you can find in Dallas. We had several people in our party from Austin and they compared this the best bars in Sixth Street. Love the Spotted Cow and don't forget the double IPA. read more

While in the LaX area recently for some training, I was in the mood for a pint to be enjoyed in a good atmosphere. Thankfully, the Bodega did not let me down :) The bar itself offers an extremely laid back and welcoming atmosphere, equipped with couches to lounge in and all. I love the "front" of the establishment (bordering the sidewalk)... It is filled with old beer bottles and trinkets that have been collected over the years. These "antiques" make this bar extremely unique. The bar staff at the Bodega are friendly and knowledgeable about the plethora of beer choices they offer... Just ask one of them what they would suggest and I assure you that you won't be let down. For a pint of the unique or popular beer, stop at the Bodega for a great evening of drinks. read more

Not a place to eat, but a top beer bar. Great selection of beers at pretty good prices for a place like this. Not a brew pub (no brewing), and not a good food place (so a .5 stars off for each), but one of the better specialty beer pub places in Wisconsin. read more

Just spent 5 days in Lacrosse on business/pleasure. Went to Bodega on the first day with every intention to try a new restaurant each day, I wound up going back to Bodega each day for a beer, great food and friendly service. The food so was great, tomato basil bisque soup, cuban sandwich, Sicilian sandwich...they cook it fresh to order and about half way through a pint of beer it arrives. The service was friendly and willing to talk to a middle aged guy traveling on his own from across the country. I also talked with many interesting people at the bar and found this place to be warm, welcoming, tasty and an excellent value. And oh yeah...the beer selection was off the charts. I stuck to the locally brewed draft beers and was not disappointed. read more

It doesn't get much better than the Bodega. They have nearly 400 beers to choose from! Some may say the food prices are a little steep for bar food, but the quality and portion size defiantly warrant the payout. If you can, go on a tuesday; BOGO on all food items. By far the best bar in La Crosse, if not the Midwest. read more

If you ask me, and it's my review, so you are, this place as the best beer selection in La Crosse. It has a really relaxed and chilled out atmosphere with really eclectic things lining the windows. Normally they have free popcorn and the bartenders were always friendly. This was always one of my favorite places in La Crosse so check it out! read more

My favorite pub in the area. An excellent, unbeatable selection of both tap and bottled beer. Don't expect to get off cheaply, but the beer is worth it. My wife doesn't care for the food, but I think it is okay. Always a great bartender. read more

Nice atmosphere for a brew pub with the right amount of lighting and tables/chairs and seating. Excellent bar service and food service. Extremely clean for a bar. The southwest chicken sandwich was outstanding with the spicy chipotle sauce. Ambiance of clientele was lively and energetic. Beer selection was great also. read more

I loved this place. The beer selection is absolutely outstanding - drafts, bottles and cans. Great food choices - the bacon/bleu cheese bruschetta was delicious. The place has a great, old-time bar feel. And, the bartender (I was in on the night of 10/21, so she gets some props) was just terrific - super friendly, knew the beers and made everyone feel welcome. read more

One of a kind place to kick back and partake in a fabulous selection of craft beers. Great barkeeps, food and popcorn. Music well chosen but not too loud to strain Conversation. Eclectic clientele that are happy to strike up a discussion regarding hops or malt. If you're visiting La Crosse and have time to visit only one place, this is it. read more

This is the most amazing bar I have ever been to. Over 400 beers in house all the time. Out bartender Sam is more then knowledgeable of all the beers. Definitely recommend it. And I will be back. read more

Passing through town with the fam - took a quick look in to make sure kid friendly (9 and 11) and it is. Totally mixed crowd - we tried two soups vietnamese broth, which I liked alot and tomato bisque which my wife enjoyed. I had a reuben slider and a bbq slider, both were solid. My wife and son split the meatball sub and it was spot on as well. I can't add anything as to the excellent beer selection and friendly staff. It's true. I will hit Bodega every time I'm in LaCrosse. read more

Went there for lunch. The sandwiches were really good (had the Cubano and the Reuben) and decently priced. Clearly the beer selection is amazing and is the main reason you should stop in. I think it has just become a personal goal of mine to try all the beers on their menu...maybe avoiding the $300 beer. Great, laid back atmosphere,decent food, lots of beer, what isn't there to like? Just note that if you do go there for food, you have to order your beer at the bar not through your waitress. My husband and I were a little confused by that, but it wasn't a big deal. read more

I love this place! The beer selection is amazing, the décor is very cozy and homey and you can people-watch downtown traffic. The southwest chicken panini was super. It was a little spicy and had a fresh herb paste as well. read more

I hope I get another chance to visit this beautiful town right on the Mississippi River. Had lunch at the Bodega and was extremely impressed. I had read that they carried upwards of 400 beers (including WEEKLY draft rotations) but was not prepared enough to be thoroughly brought to my knees. Knowledgeable wait staff and bartenders made fantastic recommendations for local brews, and the sandwich I had (Cubano) was amazing. I wish I had had time to spend an entire day there, but alas I had to settle for three hours of bliss. If I'm ever in that part of the country again I'll make sure and stop by for lunch and a few amazing craft beers. read more

Best food on my road trip on I-90. You can't go wrong with any of the selections. We totally pigged out. The artichoke dip thing was AMAZING. And the service was great. The place is huge, but somehow still homely. I love the wall murals, posters, and photos. Totally exceeded anything I could have imagined. Even the bread was good. read more

The bruchettas, especially the bacon and blue cheese bruchetta, and artichoke dip are really good. The sandwich selection is okay. Pretty much all of the sandwiches are spicy. I wish this spicy food trend would die. Not everybody likes spicy food nor can everybody eat it. The beer selection is huge but way over priced. read more

Specialties

We specialize in the fine and rare beers. We carry 400 different kinds in cans or bottles including 70 Belgians. Bodega features 18 different beers on draft. Our food menu includes food that is especially complimentary to beer such as authentic Cubanos, Rubens, BBQ pulled pork, Vegan wheat meat, soups, salads, and appetizers such as Artichoke Dip and Bruschetta. Our ingredients are made from scratch using old family recipes. We have a lounge area with easy chairs, coffee tables, lamps and couches. Bodega is listed on the National Registers of Historic and Haunted Places. We also feature huge windows that provide excellent people watching and amusing attempts at parallel parking. On New Year's Eve we are open until about 5 am or you turn into a zombie.

History

Established in 1994.

The Bodega Lunch Club (the location's name prior to becoming this bar) was a locally famous restaurant/cafeteria since about 1900. It was origanally two buildings evidence of which is still observable from inside and out. Notice the change of patterns and elevations on the brickwork out front and the step inside. The original building that has the main bar in it to the south was a dry goods market and was seperated from the north building by an alley. The north building had been a saloon/ pool hall. The second floor had various occupants from offices, to dental work, and apartments.

John's a go to guy with a great sense of humor. Been with Bodega for 10 years. Always reliable and there when you need him. All the staff like working with him. John knows his Beer and was the creator of the hugely popular White Sangria. If you have any questions or comments - go see John.

The Shitty Lyte beer I expected to taste like a regular domestic... had a little..something to it, I can't describe it, but a little punch. Jenna was attentive and funny my whole visit despite the bar filling up w customers. All the customers were equally as funny as we all talked and joked. Don't skip past Pearl Street and your directions are correct when it reads to take a left in to what looks like an apartment parking lot... you go the short distance past that to Pearl Street. I liked that the brewery really covered your palate with light to hoppy to malty and flavorful. I really enjoyed the Siberian Disco Toasted Stout and Java Lava Coffee Stout. I also enjoyed my Old Fashioned, they have a menu of cocktails as well. I definitely won't be waiting another four years for my third stop in to Pearl Street. I had the soup special, a bowl of the French Onion Soup, and my wife had the Pub Burger. Although both dishes were presented attractively, neither one had a "wow" factor, and in fact, were bland and lacking in flavor. It's too bad because,I was really in the mood for Onion Soup. The onions were cooked well, but the soup really was lacking in taste. I think the broth tasted like canned broth and did not have any depth of flavor. My wife felt the same way about the hamburger; it also was bland. So neither dish was particularly memorable. So one less star for food. They also loose another star for their continued surcharge for both a credit card and a debit card. When I rated this place two years ago, they were charging a 5% "employee pay supplement" which is no longer legal. However, it is also illegal to charge a 3% surcharge on both credit cards and debit cards (this new law was effective in January of 2025). Restaurants CAN charge for credit cards, but it is illegal to surcharge for debit cards. In fact, not only is this a Minnesota law, it is a Federal law, and part of the rules for Visa and Mastercard. Another option is that restaurants CAN give a cash discount from the menu, but to do that the menu must show prices using the credit card price and state that they give a (in this case) a 3% discount for cash (note: a menu discount, not a menu surcharge). If a credit or debit card is used, then it must match the MENU price and the check needs to show the menu price total, and separately show the cash discount. I tried to show the General Manager this law and explain it, but he was very dismissive and borderline rude. At first he tried to tell me their was a discount for paying in cash, so I asked him if that was discount off of the menu price, and he said no. A lack of a surcharge is NOT a discount; it is a surcharge!

Wisconsin Sate law allows children accompanied by their parents to enter establishments that have a Liquor License and serve food. Went in with my 11 year old son and they MAKE you sign some sort of illegal, discriminatory "made-up" "you are responsible for your child" policy. Not only is this discriminatory WRT to children, and parents with children, but as a disabled VET this "policy" disturbed me. I got into an argument with the wait staff...our group of three moved onto "The Twisted Moose". Child and Family friendly. Whatever elitist "MOTIF" you are trying to project id a disastrous failure. You actually have to implement a discriminatory and illegal policy to keep children out of your "pub" to accommodate all the millennial low lifers that think they are "high brow" by drinking some locally brewed swill; and they apparently were "hatched" at 18 as they seem to forget that they were once children. LaCrosee; ruled by numb-skull bureaucrats with no agenda, raise taxes, and run the "average" Joe out of downtown...what a waste of a formerly friendly town.... read more

Word to the wise: Avoid employment at this establishment! Jeff, the owner, is an arrogant and verbally abusive person. He may be seeking a general manager, but be ready to be his assistant that he can yell at and disrespect in front of the very employees you are asked to manage. This place needs more than new management, it needs new ownership. Look anywhere else than to Bodega for your own good and mental sanity. There's clearly already a good handful of know-it-alls that do nothing but make the new GM's job hell. This is most likely the reason they've been looking for a GM for a while now (they've been through multiple in the last year). Get real, you're in La Crosse, WI. I was on a business trip and had inquired where to get some good food and a good beer. What I found was much more than that, it was great beer, over 400 different selections and although I can only speak to the bar b que beef sandwich, great food. I was greeted by Alicia the bartender and she had a suggestion for every type of beer I could think of. I also chose to take the option out of my or her hand and spin the wheel of beer destiny and was happily suprised with a weissen-bock I might have never chosen. Beer lovers should post up here! Lots of taps and tons of bottles to choose from, or spin the wheel if you can't decide! They've got fantastic popcorn, and so far everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious! (I've only ordered apps & flat bread which is amazing) My last visit, my hubby and I sat at the bar and got excellent service, but that was a first, it's usually good to great. Went to the Bodega to listen to a local band. Waited and waited at the bar trying to order a couple of beers. Bartenders waited on others around us and even those who were there after us. One of my favorite bars to visit. The selection of beer is humungous, and the food is pretty darn good, and cheap (Tuesdays are buy one get one half off). The crowd can be a bit overbearing at times, and the bartenders are normally pretty friendly. I always recommed going to this bar to anyone who asks where to go. read more
