I had to get 2 super heavy big safes open (the old fashion bomb-resistant bank vault kind of heavy big, like maybe 1000 and 2000 pound kind of heavy), along with over a dozen door knobs rekeyed. Walked in here today with a 100+ year old skeleton key door lockset and walked out with a new key. Matt cleaned up the hardware, inspected the internal components, and even did some minor customization of the new key to ensure it fit properly. Bode & Bode re-keyed one door for me and charged an agreed $102 for the job. Included in the "deal" was to be 2 new keys. Fine. When the job was done, they had all kinds of stipulations for 2 keys which I still don't understand. The fact is, they said it came with 2 new keys and that's what I thought was the bottom line. They finally said come in and we'll key one key for you at no-charge. Come on guys, you're splitting hairs over one key? How cheap can a business be? I would not recommend B&B just based on this experience. read more

My first visit was 3 years ago. I had keys duplicated and my car key remote batteries replaced. They were quick, friendly and affordable. My 2nd visit was today. My husband had Bode & Bode Lock & Safe company come out to the house as he lock himself out of a interior door. $125.00 !!!! His son could've opened it with a bobby pin or paper clip had he been around. Way too much.....just to open the door. No keys were made, just an inflated amount.....live and learn. read more

I have a 1929 home and the front door was jammed shut. I made an appointment and the truck showed up. After working for a while, the door was opened. The serviceman took the entire lock mechanism back to the shop where a master locksmith was able to repair some of the broken springs. Within about 2 hours, the serviceman was back and reinstalled the lock and doorknob. The lock is not perfect, but about as good as it can be now for an 80 years old lock. Great service. read more

Due to the theft of one set of our house keys, I needed to re-key the locksets on three doors (5 locksets). I was overwhelmed when I opened the phone book to see hundreds of locksmiths--who do I choose? It was suggested that we use a local business, Bode and Bode Locksmith, as they have been in business in Sacramento since 1911. I called on Sunday evening and scheduled an appointment (between 8-10 am) for Monday morning. The technician, Adam, called Monday morning at 9, arrived on time, and finished the work in about a half an hour--cost of about $180. Adam was courteous, professional and efficient. I'm told that they stand behind their work. I would definitely recommend this business for lock work. read more

Awesome company that was right on time with service. Silly me locked my purse in the car on the front seat! My car was out by the bank and in front of Safeway on 19th. Definitely not a good place to leave your purse on the front seat at all. So I called the great girl at Bode and she sent a guy within 30 minutes. He was able to get the car open and disable the alarm! Extra work with the extra mile. He was also very professional and helped me looked for my lost keys. I have been casually looking for a place that could make me a spare key for my 1955 dodge for the past four years. No luck. On my way into bonehead tattoo, I decided to see if they had the blank. 5 minutes later I walked out of there with two new keys for less than $10. The blanks sell on eBay for $20. They are the best at what they do, and incredibly cool to boot. I highly recommend their services. read more

I purchased a home last fall from people who did not leave it in good condition and left only one house key. No mailbox key. With the help of the mail carrier, I removed the original mailbox lock and installed an inexpensive one purchased at HD. It did not fit well and seemed vulnerable to tampering so once I decided to correct the situation I looked up locksmiths on Yelp. The first, AND the second businesses I went to were no longer in business. So I called my local Ace to see if they could re-key the original lock. They said no but recommended Bode & Bode Lock & Safe. I visited Bode and although they could not re-key the original they had an exact replacement. Problem solved! I had to get keys copied and the only time I was able to make it was after work. I ended up arriving a a little before they closed at five, and I felt kind of terrible for being one of those last minute customers... But I just needed keys made. The sales counter clerk was very nice and courteous and I think since they closed up the register for the day, and didn't want to refuse a customer, he offered to make the service complimentary. A little surprised, I asked, "Are you sure?!" And he replied, "Yes, because I hope, as a new customer, you'll come back to us for your future services." Truth be told, it was my second or third time there, probably within the last five years. I had told him that, but he still acknowledged it all the same. Overall, they are a nice business, conveniently located downtown and have great customer service! I highly recommend them. read more

I needed emergency parts for a very old panic door. I called a couple places, and everyone told me they would need to be ordered - no one would have them in stock. They went the extra mile and searched through their boxes to find the parts I needed. They even apologized the parts were so expensive, but they were actually cheaper than I could have ordered online. Great customer service. read more

Great work, but very expensive. I live literally blocks from their shop, but there is a flat fee of like 50.00 or something for a service call. They should consider a sliding scale on the distance they have to travel, then I would bump up the stars :) For now, if I have anymore issues, I think my sister found someone that will come out for much cheaper or I will shop around. read more

Floyd came to fix a frenchdoor handle that had broken off. It could not be fixed, so he drove around to several places until he found just the exact same lock; came back and put it in, and he he never charged me a dime for all the time he spent looking for the lock. We bought a safe from Bode and Bode two months ago. Haven't had any issues until today. No matter what I did the safe would not open. We were 100% sure of the correct code. I called and spoke to a very nice woman who said she would could send out a technician today. That was wonderful! Doug came out and he was very polite and professional. He tried to enter the same code without any luck. He called in and talked to someone and got a code to reset the safe to the factory code. Again, that was great! So we changed the code to a new one. Doug still had trouble getting it to open. It worked some of the time or not. Long story short, apparently the handle has to be in just the right position or it won't work. If someone at their office had JUST suggested we try that before sending out a technician we wouldn't have had to pay the $150.00 to come out. This is an expensive safe that we bought from them. We could have paid a fraction of the price at Costco. Seems like they would have handled this in a more positive customer service manner. Not happy! We had no problem with the technician. He wasn't the problem. read more

I was an idiot and took a brand new lock apart and couldn't figure out how to put it back together. I went in just before closing(5 minutes) and they put it back together in record time and didn't charge me!!! You'd be crazy to go anywhere else. read more

first time using bode and response was surprising. Called on Wednesday at 8:30am and Greg showed up at 9:30am. He rekeyed 4 locks within 30 minutes and they all worked well. The only reservation on 5 stars is the graphite residue left on the hallway floor after he left. read more

I'd lost last key to MC, they were very service-oriented, conscious of how much time you spend waiting, very expert, picked the locked gas cap, looked up the key code under it and cut the correct key within 10 min of my arrival at shop. Only quibble was I still got charged the full $75 they would have charged had they had to reverse-engineer key and hand-grind, but I'd still make it 4.5 stars if it were available. I tend to try to patronize businesses that specialize in one thing. I feel like if they can stay in business by just doing that one thing then they must be doing it right....does that even make sense? With that said, Bode and Bode is that kind of place. Nothing pisses me off more than when I go to get a copy of a key made and then I return to find out that the copy doesn't work. Then I have to get back in the car, drive back to the locksmith, and try to convince him/her that the key doesn't work properly. I've never had this experience at Bode and Bode. The staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. They have a huge selection of keys so they can make just about any key. When my work had to let go of a couple of people, we decided to have the locks changed. Bode and Bode came out about an hour after I called and was done about an hour after that. They might be slightly more expensive than Home Depot or somewhere like that but after factoring in the wasted time and gas to go back and forth trying to get a key that works, I feel like I'm saving money there. My only complaint is that I wish they had slightly more extended hours. I tend to be in work or at school when they're open so sometimes it is a bit difficult to catch them when they're open. read more
