His restaurant is definitely a good option in the area. Prices are a little too high for the food, but as a summer destination it is somewhat understandable. We came after 8:30 so there was no wait. The service was very pleasant, but I found it very odd to eat and see my server doing end-of-night tasks at the next table. Very off putting. Roll-ups should never be done near customers. I was soooo disappointed! Heard so much about this place and it did not live up to the hype. I ordered a signature pizza, which was delicious. My kids ordered a hamburger and fries and the other ordered a kid's personal pizza, which they said was, "ok." They liked it too though the pricing is a bit much, because, I think, they are in Margate. However, where I take exception is the kids take out of baked mac and cheese for $8.50. If you eat in you get the mac and cheese, a drink, and a popsicle. If you take out you do not get the drink or popsicle. What you get are 23 pieces of rigatoni pasta in a very thin cheddar cheese sauce. It was not baked! So, for $8.50 I got 23 pieces of rigatoni and thin cheddar cheese sauce for $8.50!!! Crazy!!! The food was totally underwhelming Ordered clams casino appetizer, 6 clams that were so tiny we all laughed when served, we couldn't share because of the microscopic size. 6 clams casino for the same price at crab trap are inctedible. The artichoke app was terrible, very tasteless. The lobster roll for $16 was the size of a hot dog. We paid $96 for 3 and walked out hungry and disappointed. We wanted to like it since the place is comfortable but totally disapointing food, the wait staff was attentive and efficient but that kitchen needs an overhaul. Cross this off the list. This place is beautifully redecorated! Great bar and great atmosphere. The staff was friendly. The food was just not up to par with the decor although it was reasonably price. I had a steak which had a funny taste and the pizza was watery. Hopefully they are able to make better food before the summer as the place has a lot of potential. read more

Showed up on a not so busy night with a party of 8 we were told we would be seated in 20 minutes at most ok so we waited outside while we watched at least 3 groups of 6 seperately walk in no reservations and get seated in under 5 minutes. After being seated I have never had a restaurant take so long to bring out an under cooked burger that tasted like they pulled it right out of a camels ass then had me pay 15 dollars for it. The meal was 50-50 last night. The shrimp was beyond salty and the asparagus was so stringy that my daughter had to literally pull it out of her mouth( preventing a brief choking episode). The balsamic dressing continues to be very good and the waiter was very warm, friendly and attentive. I love the bread but if you dare ask for seconds, you usually get day old bread that they toast to disguise it. I guess that's a good business move for them. We also ordered the new Asian steak salad and we enjoyed it. It's an easy "go to" place, if you are in Margate. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone, so everything isn't going to be terrific. Stopped in for early happy hour today, which was a great call! Bartender lady was beyond super friendly and what a pleasure to be greeted by someone that is truly nice and welcoming. Too often you get the "i'm too important" attitude from bartenders so as a past bartender I always like to point out great friendly service when I see it. Kept it simple ordered a couple glasses of wine and beers all were great and not skimpy pours for happy hour prices. Next up food an order of the dry rub spicy wings Incredible as I have had them there in the past and never disappoint. Also, had the pizza special of the day with amazing flavor a few meats and a really light crust. My husband's dish, flounder with crab meat ( a special) was delicious and too big a portion for him to finish. Nice atmosphere and the bar area, restaurant seating area and pizza area are all separate, which is nice. I hate to admit I only order one thing when I go there, the Fungi Pizza, but it's coal fired and they use different kinds of mushrooms, and it is just so good that I don't want to have anything else! I just dined at Bocca last Saturday evening (Jan. 13) with a large group--10 adults and 12 kids. The food and service were terrific. I ordered the Tuscan Salmon which I highly recommend (the waiter suggested I get it blackened--excellent choice). My friends got eggplant parmesan and several pizzas which were gobbled up quickly. I can't recall what the kids ordered, but no complaints whatsoever! I recommend Bocca when dining out in Margate. read more

Enjoyed the outdoor dining and drinks! Now that the city has chipped in with new pavers lighting and trees this end of town is really starting to flourish! Usually love this place. Was told 30-40 minutes for delivery. Called after a hour and still waited another 10 minutes. EVERYTHING was cold. My husband called to speak to the manager, Joan, she told him she was "slammed" and would call him back. It's 2 1/2 hrs. later and doubt she's calling back. If you can't deliver, don't advertise!!! Very nicely renovated, really looks great but the food leaves a lot to be desired. Ordered an antipasto, very skimpy on the cheeses, prosciutto and peppers. I ordered veal saltim "bocca", veal was tender but overall the dish was tasteless. My husband ordered seabass, first order had to go back because it smelled "fishy". Second serving was without the fishy smell but also lacked taste. We were very disappointed because we really want to see a local place do well. Went here for my first time recently and it turned out to be my last time as well. Upon arriving I asked for a table and was asked if sitting in the pizzeria area was fine as opposed to the restaurant seating. I obliged as I didn't realize the pizzeria was a smokey room where I'd be sat directly in front of a glass food case. I asked to be moved and was given seating in the restaurant which was surprising because there were multiple tables available and we were asked to sit in the pizzeria. We order our food and our appetizer is delicious. We get our meals and I can immediately tell the steak was chewy and unseasoned. Whatever it was cooked on made it smell like the worst kind of old grill and ruined the taste. The rest of my dish was good but with the steak being the main aspect of the dish it was disappointing. We get home and my girlfriend and I who shared the appetizer both feel sick. I'm sick for the rest of the night in what felt a lot like food poisoning. For how much we spent on our meals I expected a lot more without even considering getting sick afterwards. read more

I ate at Bocca last week with my family and without a doubt my/our food was fine. What wasn't fine was when we witnessed the restaurant manager absolutely embarrass a table of patrons when they were trying to return a dish. She was insulting and condescending. The restaurant was full of diners so I couldn't even imagine a manager verbally attacking patrons so loudly with little effort to keep her voice down. What happened next was unbelievable. The manager went and got the owner who came out of the kitchen and was a complete ass to the patrons the manager had just insulted. He literally made a huge scene and kicked them out of the restaurant. I can't ever remember witnessing anything like that before. If you like carryout, give them a try. If you want to dine in, I would never recommend Bocca. read more

As a Margatian this corner was forever wanting a successful restaurant. I have been there several times and think that it could not only be a regular stop over for me as a local but also as a destination for mainlanders. The food has been good, but it could be so much better. The management is poor. I'm a foodie and while the food is always an almost hit, the wait staff and front end is a turn off. A very distracted hostess rudely had us waiting for a half empty restaurant. The waiters though very polite seem unsupported and misdirected. The manager seemed to be running in circles without a clue. A seasoned manager would allow the food and decor to shine. Every meal we have had has been marred by a lack of coordination. I see little to no inexperience in managment. Fix that and this will be a potential winner. read more

I have been eating at Bocca the past couple of years. Its one of the nicest local and laid back watering holes and eating establishments in Margate. Built out of the ancient history of the Sailfish Cafe, my mind could not help but muse about the sweet old local working drunk John Shaw I knew as a boy who made his mark here stumbling to his home back in the 70s and 80s but this is ancient history. This place is completely and utterly transformed from those salad days. There is a pizza restaurant where the bar was once and the adjoining new restaurant and bar next door is a lively and happening place for families and young and old alike. My visits here with friends have been memorable as the food.. This is a quality restaurant with an eclectic menu, but I have to say my vegetarian taste buds were awakened by their black bean burger. I ordered last night. And I have to tell you its the best burger meat or otherwise I have eaten anywhere. It actually has the real consistency of a meat burger but its seasonings and taste are very distinctive. When I married the veggie burger with ketchup and jack cheese the meaty taste of the veggie burger literally exploded. Being a former vegetarian, I often don't get excited by vegetarian options at restaurants but this meatless burger is really fabulous and is worthy of a trip to Bocca. One hint of advice; keep the very friendly staff behind the bar on their toes. They are indeed friendly but maybe too friendly. The wait for a menu took a little bit more time than usual but once you engross yourself with Bocca you are bound to visit and to come back again. read more

It's interesting how I've read about the poor service at this place and thought people might be overreacting. Well, to my surprise, they certainly are not. I had the misfortune of going to dinner this past Tuesday evening at Bocca. A normal summer night down the Jersey shore--nothing too crazy as far as crowds go. Got seated at a table after about 10 minutes--like I said--nothing crazy. From that point, it all goes downhill. After 10 minutes, not one single waiter, hostess, floor manager, or anyone stopped by our table to even acknowledge our existence. I was ready to walk at that moment. At 15 minutes, my wife asked the female bartender if she could help get us a waitress as we were now waiting 15 minutes. She said, "I'll see what I can do". She did nothing!!! Nothing, except go back to washing glasses. Didn't budge from behind the bar even though there was another bar tender there (and about four bar patrons). Like I said--nothing crazy. You would have thought she would have jumped at a waitress, floor manager (do they even have one?) and said, "OMG, they've been waiting 15 minutes". At 20 minutes, still no one, and I'm walking. My wife looked at a passing waitress in dismay and she wanted to know what was up. We told her the situation, and she took our order and apologized. Not her fault because it wasn't even her station. Food came out after 30 minutes (like I said--not a crazy night) for a chicken parm plate for me and linguini and meatballs for my wife. 30 minutes--really??? Please don't tell me the kitchen was slammed because it wasn't. Then another 15 minutes to get the check when we were done. Oh, I guess it takes a long time to add up two meals on the register. Really? The waitress did offer to take something off the bill. Really? Is a discounted bill going to make up for terrible service? The hostess then wanted to know if "they" did anything? Like what? A hula dance, a juggler, a sword swallower? Maybe "they" had to check with the floor manager (like I said--do they even have one?) If so, you are obviously so clueless you have no idea of what is going on in the restaurant. We told the hostess you could have turned over our table at least twice with new customers in the time we were there. Lost business = lost money. I've never experienced such outrageously bad service in my entire life. No excuses, whatsoever. This is a no return restaurant on my list, even in the off-season as I'm a local. But, wait, didn't I say it wasn't a crazy, busy summer night already. I couldn't imagine what a Friday or Saturday night would be like. Ate here last night. Wait staff was spot on, but food was mediocre. The reason for writing this review is to caution folks to review their bill before paying. Our bar bill was off by $12.00 and our meal by $34.00. An extra charge for a martini was on the bar bill and an additional bottle of wine was charged to the food bill. One mistake in billing could be explained as an honest mistake; when we encountered a second error we question the honest mistake theory. Food average and how can a pizza cooked in a 900 degree oven be served with a soft soggy crust.

My fiancée and I only went here because we were craving strawberry daiquiris outside and could walk here. We asked to sit at the outside tables and the waiter huffed and puffed and made a big deal about not wanting to seat people outside, so we had to suffer through a terrible, way-too-loud cover band inside (just wanted to relax in the cool night breeze!) I asked the waitress if they had a blender just to be sure, since many restaurants don't and she said yes, but when we received our drinks it was obvious that the bartender had no clue how to use said blender. My "daiquiri" was served in a highball glass- barely blended ice with a light taste of strawberry and way too much rum. My fiancées was even worse- barely any alcohol and light strawberry. The ice was so thick that his was undrinkable. We set that one aside and gagged down mine. When it came time to try his it was still solid ice so we explained the problem to the waitress and she took it back to the bar. When she returned, the bar had NOT MADE US A NEW DRINK. she showed up with HALF A GLASS of the same drink but with a splash of club soda added- TO A DAIQUIRI! Clearly the bartender had NEVER made this beverage before. We told her we were ready to leave and she package the drink for us in a children's cup and said we should take it to go... Isn't that illegal?? We promptly threw it out because it was disgusting. Needless to say I will never get drinks here again. read more
