Giannola's Tile and Pavers - Gaps in grout

    Giannola's Tile and Pavers

BEWARE!!! DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! They are the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt…read morewith. I went to Homeadvisor.com and requested names of contractors for an 821 Sq. foot tile job. Nick Giannola came and walked in every room, saw the furniture that needed to be moved, looked at the tile, mortar and grout that I already bought and had here waiting to be installed and initially gave me a quote for $6,788! I told him I had 2 other quotes for $2,600 and Nick agreed after a phone call and lunch with his brother Tony that he would match the price and terms of the other quotes for $2,600. Nick wrote up an estimate, (leaving out the removing and replacing of the furniture even though we spoke at length about it and I even told him that a desk I have is especially heavy). Nick said he was going to have a hard time with his brother, Tony but it was better to stay busy and keep his workers working than not doing anything because they didn't have another job until the week after the following week. Nick called me after lunch with his brother, Tony and said they would do the job and they would be here at 8 am the following day. Nick and 2 others arrived to do the job 2 hours late, which he explained away by telling me that a lady he did work for previously was having trouble with the inspector because of the work they did and he had to take care of that and that is why they were so late They began by moving furniture in the master bedroom and removing the carpeting, then Tony shows up with 2 more guys. All of a sudden Tony came in to tell me that they will not move the furniture and that we need to do it. After I refused explaining that they could not change the contract that Nick and I agreed to in writing (and verbally as to the moving of the furniture) he then sent Nick in to tell me they are putting the furniture back that they moved and they are leaving! When I reminded Nick that he walked the job and saw all of the furniture to be moved and the tile to be layed he said I didn't have the material to fix the cracks in the concrete (there was no way to know that until they removed the carpeting), that I didn't have enough tile because they would have to make alot of cuts (which is untrue because I purchased 10% more than what I needed which is standard) and that the furniture was too heavy (again he saw every bit of furniture and I even told him that the desk in one of the rooms was very heavy) and said he couldn't do it anymore and they left! They just walked off! I can't think of a more unprofessional way of doing business! Basically you have two kids who took over their stepdaddy's business and don't know how to behave! Learn from what they did to me and don't hire this company. Nick's statements below are an outright lie! I am posting a pic of my actual contract and you will see that it is for $2,600 and that Nick deliberately left off the moving of the furniture and put in that I would give a 50% deposit upfront. He then distracted me by telling me that his view on the company accepting jobs rather doing nothing was different from his brother Tony's views on the matter. I should have been more careful and read the contract before I signed it but we had just discussed the terms and i had no reason to believe that he would deliberately put in and leave out terms in an effort to get one over on me! I didn't loose any money because I specifically told him I would not give any money upfront, but I suspect if I had that they would have walked off the job and kept my money as well. Don't believe him. He is a liar as well as a cheater and they are both a disgrace to their Italian heritage and should be ashamed of themselves! You are right, Nick I should have know better than to sign a contract without first reviewing it word by word but why would you deliberately leave out the moving of furniture and adding in a 50% deposit when we specifically discussed both issues and you agreed to go forward without a deposit and to move all of the furniture, except to be deliberately deceptive. If I am not telling the truth then why did you move my bedroom furniture, remove my carpeting and why didn't you collect the deposit? BECAUSE YOU ARE LIEING! You cannot do business this way and stay in business. You weren't that busy before and I suspect when everyone knows the truth you will be even less busy. I know your parents would be ashamed of the way their sons are conducting themselves if they knew! And YOU were the one who told me your stepfather started the business and that everyone in your family thought you would fail but now think you are great because you know how to get business vs your brother who doesn't understand that it is better to be working than not! I liked you when you came to do the estimate and thought you were a respectable Italian but it turns out that you are a liar, a cheater and BAD businessman!

Tony Giannola was a true savant with the paver layout and his team was awesome throughout the project. I would highly recommend Giannola's Tile and Pavers again and again with no hesitation. Communication is very difficult with them. They tell you their work is warrantied and but then find any excuse to not fix their mistakes. After paying a 50% deposit on July 10, I was told I would be scheduled immediately. That didn't happen. I had to follow up multiple times just to get a start date. Communication was poor and unprofessional, with broken promises and missed callbacks. The crew finally arrived on July 29. The tile was installed with an extremely thin grout line--something I was never asked to approve but chose to accept. They said they would return the next day to grout and then come back the following day to move the heavy furniture back, which was the agreement I had in place with their representative. Instead, they grouted the next day and replaced the furniture less than an hour later, ignoring the recommended 24-hour grout curing time. When I called the project manager, his dismissive response was, "What do you want them to do?" The crew came back to remove the furniture, clearly annoyed, and became argumentative and disrespectful in my home. One even said they used a thin grout line specifically so they could move the furniture sooner. Later, I was contacted by someone in management, Jonny Sibrian, whose tone was equally rude and condescending. I explained I was arranging a third-party inspection to ensure the tile wasn't damaged due to rushed furniture placement or the use of vinegar (an acidic cleaner that can harm uncured grout). Instead of understanding, he accused me--twice--of trying to avoid paying my bill and even made a veiled threat. I've always paid for quality work, and I fully intend to pay the balance if the job passes inspection. But the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and disrespect I experienced with this company were unacceptable. I would not recommend Perfect Choice Flooring to others based on how I was treated or the quality of their work.
