A very comfortable neighborhood bar - and great value for the money. I had a very large Wild Turkey 101 with burger and tater tots For a staggeringly low amount. Ok, maybe I was staggering because of the very large Wild Turkey but it was still a great deal. * * * Texas flags fly on top of the bar. The jukebox plays country. The parking spaces features those pre-made aluminum signs you can buy on Highway 290 that say things like - "My Colt 45 is a lot faster than your 911." I don't think they will be serving tofu here anytime soon. * * * The crowd inside is 80% white, 20% black, 0% hispanic. Some of the blacks wear veterans caps. Most of the crowd is 40 or older, with a smattering of 30's and no one 25 or younger. Lots of people know each other. * * * Eight-liners are a big thing here. Two thirds of the patrons play. I am guessing these are fully legal. I have been in illegal eight liner places. Those have an icky furtive paranoid feel. At the illegal places, if nobody knows you, everyone wants you to go. At Bob's, I was made totally welcome the minute I walked in the door. No one was worrying about anything. * * * I am not an eight-liner kind of a guy, So I watched Sports TV and had a burger. It was a regular bar burger and tasted fine. The tater tots were T-shaped. (What's with that?) Still they were fun. There was plenty to see on all the TV screens. * * * Nice people. Nice place. I can't really comment about the drinks and service as I didn't even get to the bar. I stepped inside the door only to be greeted by the foul stench of cigarette smoke and the sight of people smoking at the bar. It was awful. read more

My little brother been doing so good. Decided to take him out. He was shooting pool, and I decided to go back on games This is what happened tonight.In Bob's Computers froze/stop working twice in less then 4 minutes. Had to reboot, lost free plays. I'm on free plays have lost $300.00 Really. Worker said he can't do nothing in here one hour and only 1 free spin n it freeze. Yeap I'm mad. We spend our money (lose In machines) when it's time to hit don't hold the machines. The 3rd is tomorrow, payday so BOB'S didn't want bell nor 7's to go off nothing because he would lose all the weekend gamblers. It Not Hard To See. Meh- I have mixed emotions about this place. Josana is amazing, remembers your name and exactly what you want to drink when you come in. She is the reason my boyfriend and I kept coming back. That personal touch and level of service goes a long way in a customer's eyes. I love their pool tables and that you can smoke inside. Unfortunately, my recent visits have not been as enjoyable. There has been other bartenders that get your orders wrong, don't comp you for their mistakes, have a bad attitude and are honestly just extremely rude. These recent experiences have ruined my view on their level of customer service and I'm not sure I will be returning. I feel like as a customer I am an inconvenience and unappreciated which is a shame because Josana does such a great job. Also- the glasses the beers have been served in lately have been dirty and soured my love for this neighborhood bar. read more

We are new to Elgin and figured hey let's try the new bar down the road. With three people and one person had one and two guys with three a piece, Bar is nice , customer service sucks!!!! They decided to cut my friend off because he bumped into the wall!!!! And to top it all of he was the most sober guy there!!! And when the bar staff decides to say rudely agree to disagree than that went your flipping tip buddy!!! Need to take a lesson in customer service!! read more

My girlfriend and I went and felt very comfortable hanging out for some drinks. Guys behind the counter were very nice and the bar food was OK. The only thing I didn't like was the smoke but hey it didn't seem to bother anyone else :-) read more

Super kind staff. Stick to bottle or cans here. The taps are far from being cold although they have a few interesting beers on tap. But skip the tap until they figure out how to get it around 36 to 38 degrees. read more

I love their beer, their chicken tenders, and their massive TV array. I'm not a fan of smoking there, but obviously a smoker will love it. It's a fairly large facility so the smoke is not overwhelming, but most non-smokers will notice the smoke. I still like to go there for a brewsky, and Norm look-alike from Cheers named Big MIke serving up the suds, and their chicken. If you like a little foreign intrigue, they also have a skinny Limey named Jim bartending too. Nothing not like here, except... otherwise they're a five star for sure. read more
