My boyfriend and I would always frequent Bobby G's as they had our favorite pizza on the planet: the Paradise Pie. Hawaiian pizza with ham, pineapple, and topped with delicious mango puree. It was the only thing we would order from Bobby G's along with a Pliny. However the last time we went, THEY TOOK THE PARADISE PIE OFF THE MENU :'( Apparently it was a hit or miss with the customers. Really devastated about the menu change. Anyways, the staff is super sweet and the pizza is yummy! One time during a Warriors game, the place was packed and we were waiting longer than usual for our pizza. The cashier was super apologetic and gave us a beer on the house. I guess I've become a gluten-free pizza snob, because a few short years ago I would have done anything for even a sub-par slice of gluten-free pizza. That's not to say that Bobby G's serves sub-par pizza. Actually, it's pretty good, and the crust hits a home run. But the toppings were just so-so on both the margherita w/sausage and the veggie pizza. I'm not sure what it needed... more sauce, more cheese... something. The salads were quite good, but really, we came for the pizza. My dining companions and I would come back, but we wouldn't travel a great distance for the stuff. Why is it that there never seem to be any real vegan pizza places in SF? If I want to find a place that makes vegan pizza that 1) uses cheese instead of going without and 2) doesn't use a variety of cheese with some kind of milk derivative, it seems as though I'm always forced to dine in the East Bay. Although Fellini is near and dear to my heart, a friend and I wanted to grab some quick eats and beer in a casual environment. So we found ourselves at Bobby G's. It's worth noting that this is the only place I have found (thus far) that sells vegan pizza by the slice. $2.50 for a smathering of sauce and spices and their own homemade cheese? Not bad. Throw some pepper flakes and nutritional yeast on top to spice it up. Come between 4pm and 7pm any day and slices are only $2. And of course, you can add on a variety of toppings for an additional cost. The second time I came here, I split a small pizza with a friend. We topped it with fresh garlic, carmelized onions, vegan sausage and jalapenos. It was so good I just about died. And we showed up about five minutes before they closed, and they weren't jerks to us like some places might be. In fact, they let us take as long as we wanted. And chatted with us afterward about the products they use. I was seriously impressed with not just how nice the owners were, but how professional and dedicated to pleasing customers they are. For those who don't want pizza, there are also different kinds of pasta, sandwiches, paninis, salads and more. Needed a quick bite to eat on the way to the library so stopped in hoping to satisfy son's pizza needs and daughter's pasta want. Never expected that I would discover a delightful dish that I can't stop thinking about! First-son's pizza. Hard to mess up 2 slices of cheese, right? Right. Next - daughter orders caprese and simple pasta with butter. Again - hard to mess up pasta with butter. But with the caprese, you must understand that at 9 years old, she has quite the discerning palate for just-right ripe tomatoes and mozzarella. In fact, we had just been to Mario's Bohemian Cigar Store the week before, which she has dubbed the freshest, best caprese ever, so there were some big shoes to fill. Well Bobby G's lived up to her expectations. Finally - the pan fried pizza. I decided to order the mushroom, goat cheese, white truffle oil version. Wow. Truly. Delicious. Such a simple concept - and executed to perfection. Loved it. Very nice people working there. The only downside to me were the big screen t.v.s everywhere. That's a negative for me so it knocks off a star (and it IS a pizza joint after all-can it REALLY earn 5 stars?), but I get it that it's perfect for the college students so add back in that star if that describes you. Hit the happy hour today *just* before 7PM (4-7). $2.25 cheese slices and $1 off beers, $2 off pitchers, $17 for large cheese pie. One SN pale ale and one Deschutes Dark Ale later and some custom slices, we all felt that the ingredients were very fresh, and the dough super chewy and tasty, but the awful pasty color on that crust rim.... do something about that, wouldja!? Think the ambiance is nice.. kinda loungy for a pizza place, with sports bar on one side, and like the conversational comfy backyard-feel of some of the settings... They weathered the pandemic delivering free pizzas to frontline hospital staff (fueled by donations from fans like us). Now they've reopened in full swing - sponsoring live outdoor jazz on Fridays, trivia nights, etc. "It's all good"...but we just discovered their Arugula & Cheese pizza, and it's exceptional. Sharp goat cheese, + mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, and fresh garlic and arugula. Lots of other creative pizza options here like curry, roasted chile peppers, mushroom mixes, and vegan soy cheese (because this is Berkeley). Look I've been to New York and Chicago and are some amazing pizza so I can't compare Bay Area pizza to them. However this is a solid pizza. Thin crust that does not fall apart and folds over nicely. Food: I got the 1 New York slice with caramelized onions replacing the cheese. The pizza was was nice a crispy. The sweetness of the caramelized onion matched the light, refreshing, sweet, and tomato-y marinara sauce (house-made!) perfectly.The size was huge. 1 slice was bigger than my face! A friend and I also shared the stuffed bread sticks. Best.Things.Ever. Bread sticks stuffed with house-made fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh herbs, and aged Parmesan cheese. The cheese isn't all just concentrated in the middle, it is actually rolled into the dough in the middle section. The bread is fragrant and chewy. I wished they bottled this fragrance so I could spray it all over my body, car, and room. This is a must try. Get it. Tip: You can get toppings in your stuff bread sticks too! The server recommended artichoke hearts. (I know what I'm going to get next) Bread sticks take longer to make, but they are worth the wait! Service: Spectacular. I went here with friends during an Oakland/ Kansas City football game on a Thursday night! The vibe was fun and there were $4 pints of beer since it was a Thursday. They were out of the buffalo chicken wings we tried to order, which was unfortunate for Thursday night football. However, between 4 of us we shared a large meat lovers pizza, a fried mushroom and goat cheese pizza pie, and cheesy garlic bread with marinara sauce. The meat lovers pizza was HUGE and definitely hit the spot. The mushroom and goat cheese pizza pie was a bit bland (needed some salt and spice), but it was a good effort for a hipster Bay Area dish. I've never really explored the menu that much, I tend to just go with the cheese pizza but that is really good. My favorite things about this place are the service and the beer. Staff are super friendly and provide great service. The beer selection is great and changes frequently. This is one of the best places in the area to get Pliny the Elder on tap, but they also have a lot of other great local brews. There's usually something from Fieldwork that is always worth checking out. I also like that there's a lot of seating, which is somewhat rare for Downtown Berkeley. This place had an ownership change a while back, but it doesn't appear to have missed a step. read more

Excellent pizza! Absolutely superb. The Margherita pizza was fantastic. The crust was crispy and crunchy and the sauce was delicious and flavorful. The sauce had a bit too much chopped up basil for my taste, but it was still wonderful. They also have gluten free options, and the GF dough had surprisingly pleasant texture..you could hardly tell it was a GF crust! My only complaint is that the croutons in my Caesar salad were so burnt that I thought I broke a tooth. Overall, I recommend this place if you love a good honest pizza! read more

I was planning to go to Cheeseboard, but it is unfortunately closed on Mondays. Luckily, Bobby G's is open! And it wasn't a bad second choice. We got the baby greens salad which came with greens, walnuts, onions, green peppers and tomatoes in a honey mustard viniagrette. The salad was pretty fresh and I enjoyed the slightly caramelized walnuts. The viniagrette was tasty but I would have liked a more intense flavor. Then for the main course, my friend and I shared a small triple mushroom pizza, definitely enough (and probably more than enough) for two people, although we finished the whole thing. The mushrooms had a delicious, meaty flavor that went well with the goat cheese which was creamy and slightly grainy. I don't like cheese, but the cheeses weren't overpowering for me which is a rare accomplishment. Service was very friendly and we had to say, "I love Bobby G's!" in order for the server to take a picture for us. They are putting words in our mouth, but I can't disagree! read more

3 days into work & the boyfriend was ready for a break. But to be honest, if I were in the same situation, I would've cracked after 2 days. As a little treat, we decided to go to Bobby G's for some beer, pizza, & a good 'ol time. He got himself a pitcher of Pliney the Elder which he drank 90% of by himself (5% was left in the pitcher & 5% was in me). It was $2 off during happy hour so I guess the left over beer wasn't too much of a waste. For food, we got an order of Spicy chicken wings & a large Triple mushroom pizza. The wings were very spicy but they paired well with the blue cheese ranch dressing. For what they were, I didn't think they were worth the price or the wait (it took at least 5 minutes longer than the pizza which already took a long time). The pizza was slightly too acidic but the use of goat cheese was very clever. Also, the mushrooms could have been sliced thicker to provide a bigger contrast of textures. While the food was pretty good the prices were ridiculous. The wings & pizza together were almost $40 - & that's after a 10% student discount. Bobby G's is a place I've liked going for the last 2 years I've lived in Berkeley, but there are other places where one could get pizza & beer for much more reasonable prices...& at comparable qualities. read more

I came here for lunch with my colleague and we decided to split a small pizza and get two salads. Our salads were prompt and about 20 minutes later the server brought out one slice pizza. For two people. After clarifying that we ordered one pizza and not one SLICE of pizza as evidenced by our receipt, the server said "oh" and walked back to the kitchen. Since we needed to get back to work, 45 minutes after we ordered, I asked the server how much longer it would be. He said a few minutes and didn't offer any explanation as to why it was taking so long. 55 minutes after we ordered, the server brought out our pizza. With the exception of a couple to-go orders, the restaurant was not busy. The server apologized for the wait and told us we didn't have to pay for the pizza, only the salads. My colleague pointed out that we had already paid for our entire order. The server told us not to worry about it, it would be taken care of. It was not. We were charged full price for everything. I wouldn't mind waiting an hour for a pizza in the middle of the day if the restaurant was busy or if the pizza was good but it was pretty mediocre. read more

Love the food (check out their fried pizzas!), but the staff are what puts Bobby G's into 5-star status for me. Typical situation: Super-crowded Thursday night football. They are out of my preferred beer (Anchor Porter), so I order an Anchor Steam. Next thing I know, the bartender is seeking me out with two sample shots of the two porters they have on tap. This sort of service is the usual at Bobby G's, but it still astonishes me because it's an order-at the counter arrangement - not a server angling for tips at 'their' table. Awesome service.
