Disrespectful manner for upholding normal human respect !!! Rescue all the dogs from this shelter and do not give them your business!

At Bobby and the strays I witness an intense amount of negligence alongside blatant racism and overuse of superiority. Bobby, Genene and Ron use bully tactics on their employees to keep them quiet about the malpractices in the establishment. It is very clear that people who are their friends or top donators are prioritized in comparison to the normal adopter. They love to belittle pet owners who cannot afford to take care of their animals, however do the bare minimum themselves. They hoard donations and supplies until they expire and state they need donations but never make full repairs. Dogs are never bathed or properly groomed until it becomes unbearable for the animal and their smell. The only employee with an ounce of dignity is Juan, who sadly endure the brutal attacks by these people for the sake of the animals. Remove all the animals from this facility and give them none of your business.

Bobbi and the Strays are full of some of the kindest, most compassionate people -- with the cutest dogs, too! I had been looking to adopt for awhile, but never felt truly secure until I stumbled upon BATS. Each time I visited their Queens location, their staff was eager to answer all of my questions and concerns. I immediately fell in love with River (previously Beethoven), and met Louise for a home visit two days later. On the day I picked up River for his official adoption, Louise left us a bunch of toys, treats, food, and a brand new blanket. It's obvious how much she cared for him. Even after I brought him home, Louise would still happily hop on the phone with me to answer any of my dog-care questions -- knowing that I was a twenty-something and bringing home a dog was a big step for me. Fast forward three months later, and River is most definitely my best friend! Thank you, BATS, especially Louise, for your guidance, thoughtfulness, and patience in facilitating the adoption. You rock!!!

Amazing how the reviews are five star or 1/2. I have been watching a particular dog on PetFinder for weeks and I finally decided to pursue him because I already have two of the same, I am 96 miles away, I can give this dog the best home ever, I love his face. He has cataracts and diabetes and I wanted a little more information about his medical requirements so that I could determine if I was a good candidate to administer medical care. I sent an email, which also included photos of my two dogs, I have excellent references, so I asked a few questions. I almost immediately got a response that this dog will not be adopted out of state, and none of my questions were answered. This dog has been in their care for one year and four months in need of a home, but I am thinking that his foster care is not ready to give him up. I don't know for sure, but if that is the case, shouldn't they make a commitment and adopt him? I sent back another email and asked for Bobbi to answer my questions, and this email went ignored. I don't know how these rescues work, but I am beginning to think that the ones who send most dogs out to fosters are just about a paying job. I'm thinking that if this Bobbi was around a lot of dogs desperate for a forever home, she would be more compassionate, be nicer to potential adopters, and allow adoptions withing 100 mile radius. I appreciate anything that she is responsible for, but at this point I can only assume that she treats most people the same, like dog poo (s##t) UPDATE It is now 24 hours later and I finally received a response From Bobbi and her whole attitude seemed to change. In fact it was like dealing with another person. She gave me all the reasons that I needed to understand the special circumstances around Tiger and him not being adopted out of state. She said that he was blind and needed two injections daily for diabetes. The listing that I read initially stated that Tiger was just recently diagnosed, so I don't see how he would need two injections at this time. Also there is a video on PetFinder and I assure you that he is not blind on that clip. I just upped the one stat rating to three stars to give Bobbi the benefit of doubt, but no matter, she need to learn the appropriate way to deal with people. I say this because there are many other reviews that state same. I am guessing again, but I wouldn't be surprised if she read my YELP review then decided to respond to me without being offensive. If she is reading this, I hope she understands that I am a dog lover and I was hurt by her initial response when all I really wanted to do is was give a needy dog a great second chance. I have posted a picture of one of my rescues when I first adopted him, AJ", maybe eight years ago. And a second photo of the same dog after I adopted and loved him.

We adopted a puppy from them during Covid. Not an easy thing to do but we did it. Everyone was very patient and kind. We had adopted a cat from them previously. Great place. All the animals are well cared for. The kennel staff are the best. The paperwork didn't bother me. It's for the protection of the animals, as it should be.

I am a NYS licensed veterinary technician with over twenty years of professional experience in addition to decades of pet ownership (of many species.) I find it distressing that so many of these negative reviews are because the -people- somehow feel they weren't treated special enough, or fast enough, or something. I would often visit the kitties after my workout at NYSC. And when we lost my girls at 21, we stopped in to fill out an application "just in case." You can guess where I'm heading... a week later, after a home visit, we adopted a young male and an older female cat (who had spent most of her life in the shelter.) Was their acclimation smooth as silk? Heck no. I'm a trained pro and thought I could handle anything, but we still had adjustments to make. But 4 months later and the boyfriend and I love our babies to pieces. I really worry that people looking to adopt an animal thinking somehow Bobbi and the Strays has a crystal ball with all the answers (and all the loot.) Trust me - breeders cant predict how big the puppies will grow, but you think somehow shelter staff can predict this? The cages are spotless and the animals are well loved. The volunteers are dedicated and patient. They are trying their best to empty an ocean of strays teaspoon by teaspoon. If you think adopting an animal is all about you... I'm suggesting you reconsider pet ownership. If you' are willing to do whatever it takes to rehabilitate an animal in need, I suggest you stop in and maybe meet your next love.

The adoption process was detailed and thoughtful, with multiple steps that showed how committed KK9R is to ensuring every dog finds the right forever home. After submitting our application, my husband and I had a virtual interview with a trained volunteer who asked meaningful questions about our background and did a virtual home tour to ensure we had a safe space. We also visited weekend adoption events to meet the dogs and learn more about the organization. Once pre-approved, we joined their Patreon to participate in their Foster-to-Adopt program--and that's how we found our Bari. Bari, a sweet 2-year-old Mini Jindo mix, was rescued from a short chain in a rural area near a puppy mill. The rescue arranged for us to foster him short-term, with the option to adopt within five days. From minute one, we fell in love. The support made the Foster-to-Adopt program incredible, especially for me as a first-time dog owner. My husband had experience with rescues, but I didn't, and KK9R ensured I felt confident and equipped every step of the way. I had a direct line of communication with the staff and kept a detailed online diary about Bari's food, medication, energy, temperament, potty habits, and anything else that stood out. The staff used that diary to give us feedback, tips, and encouragement. They helped me understand basic things like how to encourage him up a flight of stairs or how much to feed him, and they were always available to help troubleshoot or celebrate progress. Interacting with the volunteers and staff was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly, kind, and genuinely invested in our success. I grew up with a fear of dogs, and it turns out that many of these pups, including Bari, come with their own fears. The support I received from KK9R helped us feel safe, confident, and ready to build trust with each other. Their care helped me become the kind of dog guardian Bari needed and helped Bari begin to feel secure in his new life. One of the things that sets KK9R apart is its required training program, which ensures every dog and adopter has the foundation they need to thrive. Training is done with professionals with experience working with dogs like Bari--dogs who may not know how to play, lack confidence, have difficulty trusting people, or need help with basic skills like crate training, leash walking, potty habits, and recall. While it may seem like a lot initially, the required sessions are invaluable. The rescue doesn't receive any kickbacks--KK9R just properly vets the trainers to ensure adopters are working with people who truly understand the unique needs of these dogs. We paid upfront at the time of adoption and quickly scheduled five sessions with a trainer who came to our home and worked around our schedule. I started out with zero experience, and those sessions helped lay a strong foundation. Training is a lifelong commitment, and I'm so grateful KK9R sets adopters up for long-term success right from the start. Another incredible part of adopting through KK9R is the rich alumni network. Since bringing Bari home, I've connected with other KK9R adopters in our neighborhood--people like me who welcomed a pup from South Korea into their lives. It's been such a gift. Bari and I have joined other alums and their dogs for pack walks in Prospect Park, dog-themed craft events, and other informal meetups. It's been a wonderful way for the dogs to build confidence and socialize and for the humans to swap stories, share recommendations for gear and services, and be in a community with people who understand the joys and challenges of adopting a rescue pup. I've made dear friendships through this network, and Bari has too. We look forward to every pack walk--it's been one of this journey's most unexpectedly beautiful parts. Because KK9R has given me so much, I knew I wanted to give back. In the spring of 2024, I began volunteering with the organization as a KK9R alum. Signing up was simple, and attending adoption events quickly became a highlight of my weekends. Even the simplest volunteer tasks--helping others learn about the rescue or watching dogs interact with potential adopters--felt incredibly meaningful. I've also conducted virtual interviews with new applicants for the past year. It's been a rewarding way to spend my free time. I enjoy guiding others through the same thoughtful process that helped me find Bari and helping them understand what it takes to form a lifelong, loving bond with a rescue pup. A year and a half later, Bari continues to thrive. He's changed our lives for the better.

Why Instagram, rather than the uber-popular, super visible adoption options in the city that come up on Google? Because A. I specifically wanted kittens and the big shelters I went to didn't have any. B. Because all the ultra-cool hip rescue organizations require you to practically sign away your firstborn child in order to adopt. I understand that they want to find the perfect adopter because it's in the best interest of the animal, but I see people bragging about their 2-page essays that accompany their applications because they're such A+ adopters. And hey, just because they want to assign "Exhibit As and Bs photos of their home life," high school English teacher references and SAT add-ons, doesn't mean that should set the standard. Holland from Cat Castle was warm, friendly and helpful when I reached out to her; the friendliest out of EVERY place I had looked into! I told her which kittens I was interested in, filled out the application, and she delivered my sweet boys to my apartment! She even came back to pick them up to take them to get neutered before delivering them back to me! I loved her energy and I love how she and Max have the knowledge to treat some of their rescues in their own home making some vet visits avoidable! While other pet rescues have an almost snooty demeanor about their approval process, I love how down-to-earth Cat Castle is and their non-discriminatory application process. And I'm so happy I was able to support a small, up-and-coming, NYC non-profit that truly cares for animals and wants to match them with potential adopters without being judgy about it.
