Large amounts of nostalgia here. What they are lacking is space. I felt claustrophobic trying to negotiate the store. The time I visited they were hanging two holiday stars and an electrician was doing some work. Way too crowded. Can't imagine many shoppers here at once. I kept being asked to move. Move where? There's nowhere to go. The proprietors are very friendly, gave me some popcorn and told me the story. Had the store been much bigger, I would happily drive in from Suffolk County. But not so with the crammed space.

As soon as I opened the door to Bobb Howard's General Store this afternoon, I was transported back to the good ol' days on the island when I was a chubby kid ( actually still am both, chubby and a kid) who loved being around and working in the family candy stores in Baldwin and Westbury. I was greeted by this very cheerful and laid back gentleman named Ronnie who welcomed me as a first timer and introduced me to the rich 71 year history and metamorphosis of this business as he gave some samples of the dark chocolate kisses ( Yes! YEs!! YES!!!) and dark chocolate covered pecans. I think I just created and started speaking a new language as I closed my eyes and bit into the rich, creamy and melt in my mouth chocolate. Bobb's is a very clean, bright and well organized store with cute little blue baskets by the door to pick up and fill up any and every candy one can remember from the 50's to Y2K from mints to gum to candy corn to chocolate coins to jujubes to Yoo Hoo bars and Hershey bars. I have barely scratched the surface with these references.Love the posters and the signs from that era that complement the candy. The store also has an awesome toy collection from the good old says. Great prices too. This is a place where you would need a good three hours to go through and enjoy everything. Ronnie also mentioned that the adjoining auto repair shop was also his and they had a huge following as an honest business. Great vibe! Great set up! You have got to go check it out!, Bobb Howard's general store is located on the south west corner of Lakeville Rd and Bryant Ave, between Hillside Ave and Jericho Tpke just a block north of the library. Open M- Sat! Sign says smiles available 7:30-6:00. Smiles and sweet stuff!! There was free freshly popped popcorn for customers too. Ronnie asked for my birthday and mailing address to send me a gift voucher to redeem. This is just a surprising and refreshing stop in what looks like and is a auto repair shop. I got some sugar over here!!

    Todays haul.

I still love this place! I come here at least once a year for my reto candy. I'm hoping they'll be able to do egg cream day again.

Creme Savers!!! As a kid growing up in the 80's....the other candies were just some of my faves.

If you ate it as a kid, 9 times out of 10, it's here. If you played with it as a kid, 9 times out of 10, it's here. It's a wonderful candy land full of nostalgia. I picked up some treats to add to a Christmas gift, as well as treats for myself and the parentals. My dad's eyes lit up when I handed him some candy I remembered him talking about. That's 10000000% worth it. PLUS....everyone there is just so NICE! Go. You won't regret it. You will definitely leave with a smile on your face....and a bag full of candy.

Wanna feel like a kid in a candy store and take a trip down memory lane? Hidden in the quiet town of New Hyde Park, you'll find Bobb Howard's General Store. Attached to the owners' family auto repair shop which opened in 1946, the General Store was a convenience store which has since been converted into a very sweet memory lane. When you drive up, you'll see a sign that says, "Smiles Available" and boy, Bobb Howard's has them! Where else will you find walls labeled "smiles", "giggles", and "memories" which display lots of different candy---350 retro candies to be exact! Things like Astro Pops, satellite wafers, chocolate babies, Delfa (licorice) rolls, Zotz, Pine & Smith Brothers cough drops, and my personal favorite, BBBats!!! They also sell a variety of toys dating back to pre-1920! The owners of Bobb Howard work at the store and chat with their customers. During my visit, they were popping popcorn and handing it out to their customers. With my purchase, they gave me a number of word games to take home, as well as the history of the store and a paddle ball! (If you don't what a paddle ball is, I recommend you take a visit to Bobb Howards! Of course with my visit came a lot of smiles! So worth the trip, I had such a SWEET time!!!

This is not really a candy store, it's a working auto repair shop with a candy store inside. An easy way to get old fashion candy

I was driving down Lakeville Rd when I saw a little store beside a car service shop that advertised- "We Sell Old Toys and Candy!".

Keep in mind, it's not 'half price cards' -- they are not cheap. It's the kind of card selection you find yourself browsing extensively, and going "ooooh" a lot; maybe you even end up buying 'advance' or 'emergency' cards because you know sooner or later you will need to send something special to someone special. All in all, for a card/stationery store it's about as good as it gets, plus it's a great place to shop small.

5/5 - Venchi at Roosevelt Field Is a Sweet Slice of Italy You Shouldn't Miss…read more If you're walking through Roosevelt Field Mall and looking for something special--skip the usual food court treats and make your way to Venchi. My wife and I stopped by on a whim, and honestly, it turned into the highlight of our day. This place is more than just a gelato shop--it's a full-on experience for anyone who loves quality chocolate, real Italian gelato, and beautiful presentation. From the moment you walk up to the counter, you're greeted by that incredible aroma of cocoa and roasted hazelnuts. The store is sleek and elegant with golden details and walls stacked high with colorful boxes of chocolate. It immediately sets the tone: this is not your average dessert stop. We both went straight for the gelato, and wow--it was on another level. I ordered the hazelnut (nocciolato) and Cremino, and my wife had pistachio with dark chocolate sorbet. The flavors were unbelievably rich and creamy, made with real, high-quality ingredients you can actually taste. The hazelnut was smooth and nutty with that authentic Italian flavor, while the Cremino had a velvety chocolate-hazelnut swirl that melted in your mouth. The pistachio had just the right balance of sweet and salty, and the dark chocolate sorbet was deep, bold, and not overly sugary--perfect for chocolate lovers. One of the best touches? You get a piece of Venchi's signature chocolate on top of your cone or cup, which feels like a small luxury. We also picked up a small box of their chocolate truffles to go--and we've been slowly savoring them at home. Every bite is rich, indulgent, and tastes like something you'd find in a boutique in Rome or Milan. The staff was friendly, patient, and happy to offer samples (which helped a lot since the flavor list is full of tempting choices). You can tell they actually enjoy working there and take pride in the quality of what they're serving. Yes, it's a bit pricier than your average ice cream shop--but it's totally worth it. You're getting authentic Italian gelato and handcrafted chocolate that's miles ahead of anything else in the mall. If you're shopping at Roosevelt Field and want a sweet break that feels a little elevated, Venchi is a must. It's perfect for date day, a treat with the kids, or even a little solo indulgence. We'll definitely be back--and next time, we're trying the chocolate fountain!

As we're browsing, instead of an employee greeting the customers he would just keep saying "you have to come to this side of the store to order gelato" I did notice a couple of people walk out after that. I was interested in their coffee menu, which had names & illustrations making them look more like dessert coffees - but no description. As I'm standing on the side for gelato orders, I'm once again told where to stand for gelato orders before another employee turns around, sees me and it seemed like was was trying to avoid me. I asked about the coffee drinks and was given just basic descriptions like he couldn't be bothered and was trying to get it over with. Which was unfortunate because that's when I decided to say "thank you have a nice day" and walked out. Their coffee menu was pretty decently priced too. Perhaps I would have ordered a drink along with gelato had the staff been more professional.
