Came here for lunch the other day, it was my first time at a Bob Evans restaurant. Their menu is pretty extensive and they had breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I ordered the famous sausage chilli and the cranberry pecan (chicken?) salad. Also got an order of the cinna-biscuits. They weren't as busy but service was a bit slow, they forgot that I asked for the cinna-biscuits so we had to order it as a takeaway instead. I tried it while they were fresh though and they were good. The chilli was just okay, nothing too special. I wasn't sure if the salad came with chicken (I thought it said on the menu) but when I asked a server, she said that I can get chicken added if I asked for it. Pretty standard, price wasn't too bad for the portion. I'll maybe come back and try other dishes next time. read more

This was our first visit to a Bob Evans restaurant. We found it fairly typical of chain short order restaurants from atmosphere to service to food. We visited late morning on a Monday and it didn't seem busy at all. We were seated quickly and got coffee quick enough but we just as quickly realized it was understaffed with only two wait staff covering the entire floor (it's a large space). Our waitress was serving a couple tables in a section adjacent to ours but seemed confused at times. Once we placed our order it turned into a long wait. Part of the problem was a couple items included with our food weren't available....so we were forced to substitute. We noticed a lot of back and forth conversation between our waitress and the kitchen (we were in close proximity). We did find the food tasty for standard fare once we got it. Our waitress was pleasant and apologetic for the long delay which was considerate. We didn't hate it but would like to have seen menu items available and increased coverage and less confusion. I took my wife here since she used to work at bob evans a long time ago, and everything went great. We had a 30 minute wait but that was fine, food took about another 30 minutes and our server was nice . I felt bad because she looked stressed but she overall did an amazing job. My wife got the farmers choice, i got a hotcake breakfast and besides her bacon being a little burnt (she liked it) it was a good way to get out of the house. The breakfast is terrible hash browns were not even warm the eggs under cooked the biscuits were hard as a hockey puck. The server told me the reason for the undercooked potatoes was that the grill had just been cleaned and that she ordered another and they would be taken off the bill The potatoes were served the server told me that it took 10 minutes to cook them. The decor is on par with most chain coffee shops. The service was the same. But then, that's where we drift away from the competition. A relative of mine loves to go there, so I've had chance to sample the food three times now. I can't even understand this... each time has been a poor tasting experience. Even on my most recent visit, the food was dismal, and I was prepared for bad food. I had a basic breakfast combo, straight from the menu. What was delivered was unsalted home fries with no life, and yet the gravy was a disgusting salt lick. The bacon was far too cold and the the biscuits were warm, but heavy and as uninteresting as a silent movie to a blind man. Terrible. Read no further. OK. So, read. I have heard that the chain is in trouble, and I am here to report that it's accountants have taken control and have reduced costs by attacking quality. See that dark chicken in the pictures? That's caused by old, oxidized oil. And my two-piece dinner is the result of cutting a single breast in half and then hammering it flat. Thin and bitter is not a good taste combination, but the accountants evidently like it. And the corn. I imagine people everywhere saying, "We must get down to Bob Evans for the Delmonte can opening ceremony." The green beans are only OK, but that's enough to star here. The wait time for seating can be long, but it is rarely more than 20 minutes unless it is a Sunday morning or family holiday like Mother's Day. The servers are always friendly and patient but quick. The decor is typical chain restaurant country diner. Lots of wood and farm decor. Seating is varied with tables and booths, plus plenty of seating in the waiting area and some benches outside. Food is delicious. If you're looking for a fresh, almost home cooked meal, look no further. The banana bread is delicious, and I highly recommend it warm with butter. Full holiday meals are also available at reasonable prices, very much worth the cost. read more

I love pancakes, but my family doesn't, so I try to restrain myself from making them for every meal. Actually, I really only get to enjoy them when I go out, Bob Evan's pancakes specifically are delicious and filling. I love the original, but the extra chocolate ones are like dessert in pancake form, topped with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Indulgent heaven. The coffee is awful, unfortunately. For a while there was no heavy cream either, just coffee creamer, which made the coffee even worse somehow. But you know what, a fresh sweet tea is always great as well. I did take a star down for the service. The food is always delicious, good old home style country cooking, and you know what to expect. But the service since November has really gone downhill as far as servers go. I know things are hard, and I didn't enjoy being a server myself, but there is one in particular who always seems miserable. She doesn't smile, is a bit brusque, and doesn't seem to have the time of day for you. It's actually unpleasant every time we have her. I know people are doing their best right now, so hopefully this gets better over time. read more

I used to love Bob Evans food, it always hit the spot of comfort. Our meal today was just okay, we probably won't eat from here again anytime soon. I have no problem with salty food, but the bread and celery dressing was next level! All you could taste eating it was salt, enough to sting the mouth. This is a staple item at a place like this, so surprising that they don't have it consistently right. Also ordered the Cheddar Baked Potato Soup, which should be renamed to cheddar and bacon cheese sauce. It was nothing comparable to a soup, just some ingredients in a canned-style cheese sauce. Had it been served as a nacho-style dish and not a soup, it may have been edible. Yuck, lol. I'll give them another try in the future, but I will give them some time to figure out their prep issues they clearly have going on. read more

We had to wait forever to be waited on and to get our food. I had so many blueberries in my pancakes that they were purple, and they had no flavor. Waitress never came to check on us ever. Didn't refill our drinks. We didn't have any silverware on the table. We had to get up and get our on along with extra syrup since she never came back. A real letdown. They used to be the best place to eat. My banana bread I got to take home had 0 flavor, and I'm not exaggerating. You couldn't taste the banana any spices, nothing! read more

Here almost every Sunday, here now as I type this. Let me tell ya, this place is awesome! Mind you, everytime there's a wait but not for too long. Staff is nice, all of them. They hustle especially during peak hours. Food is always delish (banana nut bread is the bomb) and hot when it's brought to the table, with minimal wait. Very clean restaurant. Not only for all of these do we return, you know when a restaurant treats their staff good, because we have seen and been served by the same people for at least 3+ years. Great place to eat if you have all day to wait for food!! This was by far the WORST dining experience I have ever had. We were sat fairly quickly so we had high hopes for the time it would take for us to be waited on, but we were dissapointed by a long wait time just to be greeted by our server. I'm fairly patient because I work in the food service industry as well, so I assumed that maybe our server Rita was busy. I ordered a sweet tea, and I was given an unsweetened tea, no big deal, mistakes happen, but then I was given more unsweetened tea for the rest of my meal, when I previously told Rita that the tea was not sweetened. We had a ridiculously long wait for our food, it was at least an hour to get our meal, and when it came out, the hashbrowns were hard as a rock, I could throw it like a frisbee if I wanted to, like that bad. The pancakes were hard and dry on the top so I knew they had to have been sitting under a heater for a long time. This place is honestly a joke. And it isn't the first time we have had this type of experience at this location. When we were finished with our meal we were stuck waiting for a check so long that we decided to go up front to ask for it. If your servers at your location cannot run their own food, then maybe you should work elsewhere or hire food runners!!!! read more

Oh - ok. - no problem I will take home what I can't eat I explained. THEN I get the bill - $48.72. So the tacos were $22 - that adds up at $2/taco. I've been to this place several times and depending on who is working, the place can be like night and day. Sometimes when a manager is working they are good. The food is good and all is well. If there is a male server working, he is excellent. He's attentive, professional and friendly. Then, today I went in and there was a young lady hostess with dark hair seating patrons. She acted like this was the last place on earth she wanted to be. She was not friendly, didn't say anything, went to a table, after looking around while talking to herself, where she put menus on the table then walked away. The food was good considering the fact that the server was rude and basically just sucked. I ordered biscuits and gravy and sweet tea to drink. The gravy was brown with sausage in it and the tea was very sweet. (which is bad if I say that... lol) I asked her to give me the white, country gravy with sausage and she brought white country heavy with no sausage. Ordered take out from the Wentzville, Missouri location. Two stars only because it was decent. I ordered over easy eggs and received eggs so over cooked the yolks were dry. The portion of home fries was lame. I get more than twice the serving if I go into the restaurant. I would suggest they prepare the same size meal for those ordered for deliver as they serve inside their establishment. I am a regular customer and what I received at my door is a disgrace. My wife ended up making eggs for me out of our own supply. Sad. read more

Really not good. The service was excellent, but that's about it. The coffee tasted burnt, a bit. I cannot recommend the French toast at all. It was terrible. Like chewing gum. If you're planning on getting sausage, get the patty not the links. They are hard and cold. Like one of those hot dogs that has been on the roller too long, except it has this skin that is impossible to chew through. The biscuits were very good, but the gravy was far too salty. As for the potatoes... go with hashbrowns. The little chunks of potatoes were flavorless, and barely warm. The eggs were alright. We got them scrambled, you can't mess them up too bad. We eat here usually on Saturday or Sunday mornings every week for the last few years. I order the same thing every week and it is always consistent - delicious, hot, fresh and made to order. (I get the Country Biscuit - it's a biscuit , with an egg on top, covered in white gravy and sprinkled cheddar cheese on top and sausage crumbles). I get hash browns with cheese and onions on the side. One thing I like about this location is that they have had the same staff for quite a long time.
