After my mother passed away early this morning we needed to get some coffee and breakfast while waiting to meet with the funeral director. We asked for coffee. We were brought mugs, however no coffee. After waiting at least 30 minutes for said coffee, the server brought out a pot, went to every table besides ours serving coffee, and walked right by us to go back to the kitchen. I literally had to jump out of my seat to get ours. She poured us the bottom of the pot. After asking multiple times, we then waited for cream and sugar that never arrived. We won't be back to this or any other Bob Evans locations needless to say. read more

Oh boy... I am giving this location (Cedar Center, University Hts.), 2 stars because at least I did not get food poisoning. I have given it 2 tries since it opened a month or so ago, and if I ever go back, it will be after they cross the 6 month mark, so that the teenager servers they hire have either figured it out, or have moved on to other jobs. I do not understand why a chain that seems to be successful hires servers that are SO green...I suppose you can make a case that the teens can be "molded" in the Bob Evans "style" (as opposed to hiring experienced servers who actually know what they are doing), but holy moly, it makes for all kinds of crazy when the servers are so nervous/oblivious. First visit was for lunch, I ordered chicken noodle soup - I figured something basic, should be good. looked good, lots of chicken pieces...and then I put the first piece of chicken in my mouth...is it possible for chicken to have gristle? all I know is that when I tried to chew it, it chewed back at me...BLECH! I discreetly spit the offending piece of chicken into my napkin (something I am not in the habit of doing). Sorry if I am grossing anyone out, but it is the truth. I bravely and carefully looked at the rest of the chicken, and while most of it turned out to be fine, there were a few very dried out pieces, and I was stuck trying to figure out how pieces of meat submerged in a liquid can get that dry. Got the attention of one of the MANY management types that were there (seemed like for every server there were 2 corporate types hanging around). I mentioned to this manager what the problems were with my meal, and he gave the typical "we are new here, I will mention it to the kitchen"... Ok, fine. Good luck with that. 2nd visit was for breakfast 2 weeks after my first visit, our server seemed to be holding it together well enough on a busy shift. I asked for an extra syrup container for my pancakes, and she brought me a small creamer...neither of us had ordered coffee. I was almost done with the pancakes so I did not point out her error. I have worked in a kitchen restaurant and also as a server, And although that was a long time ago, I can appreciate how tough a server job can be, I feel sorry for the Bob Evans servers, who apparently did not get a good enough training before opening. read more

Take out service is so slow. I ordered soup, salad & rolls. I used to work at Bob Evan's, I know those are all ready to serve items. A wait of over 30 min was rather ridiculous. I'll be driving to the next Bob Evan's next time I need a quick meal. I'll save time, if not gas. read more

This place happen to be close by and the wife love their Turkey Sandwich diner. For the most part their food is 3 star quality. Nothing stands out but nothing excels either. Their broasted chicken is better than KFC though, so I will give them that. I would avoid the Mac & Cheese though. The place always clean and they have a manager that is always making the rounds. So that is a plus. Their staff, at least up front, tend to get in little cliques like a bunch if giggling high-school kids and give off the vibe that you are really ruining their evening by having them work for their pay. It is not that the service is bad when they show up, it is getting them to show up. I have been to this one on multiple occasions and it is always the same. But, because it is close, I power on. I was disappointed with the service and the food was just ok. I kept seeing all of the Bob Evans commercials about the family meals to go and I was curious, so I went online to order a meal. I ordered the country fried steak, salad and sweet tea. They said it would take 20 minutes; I was 5 minutes late and I called as the sign instructed when I pulled outside, this is when it started going bad. The young man who answered seemed like he could've used a little more training and phone etiquette. When I told him my name he said "WHO?!" And I asked him if that's what he just said, bc I was surprised by the way he said it. He said "yeah I didn't hear you" I gave him my name again and he said "oh yeah, that's going to be 5 more minutes" 12 minutes later a young man came out with my bag, I briefly checked the contents and asked if I wanted gravy for my steak. I told him yes and he went back to get it. When I got home, my food was not hot and I only live 7 minutes away. The tea was not sweet tea but instead unsweetened. I was very disappointed. When I walked thru the door the hostess that seated us was ok. We get to our table and our waitress is Rhonda not very friendly. After bringing our drinks back and taking our order she snatched our menus out of our hands I asked to keep one because I wasn't done ordering. As I'm sitting oat the table I heard her call over another waitress (with a short hairstyle) and tell her that she didn't like me nor my attitude (I knew she was talking about me because she looked straight at me and didn't say anything else to the other young lady. Another unprofessional gesture she did wAs argue with the young lady while she was talking a order at her table about her accidentally taking her table 24. She barely came back to check on us. She dropped our check off right after our food and disappeared. I give her a 2 out of 5. read more

This is an amazing breakfast or brunch restaurant. I personally like the breakfast better than their lunch or steak etc. Last time I was there, I tried the sausage patties which were included in my meal (Homestead Meal), they were not as good as the breakfast. Wow, the eggs were delicious (I ordered sunny side up), and with the eggs, you can order some kind of bread. I suggest the white toast, but if you don't like butter, you wouldn't like it because t is covered in butter. I also recommend the hot chocolate. When I went here in Sandusky, there weren't many people there and it still took them a long time to serve my food, but our server was super nice and kid friendly and I think it's so funny that all of the Bob Evans restaurants look exactly the same! The place was great when it first opened. A couple years on and it seems as though it's on its way downhill. The attentiveness and knowledge of your server will vary greatly. There are some attentive servers here, but they are few and far between. The accuracy of your order will vary, as well, either on the part of the server (there's high turnover, methinks) or who's flinging food in the kitchen. I don't think its death is imminent, despite the slow evenings. Weekends are the busiest times and it's one of the few sit down and be served joints with reasonable prices for breakfast/brunch. The food is still tasty. If you have a problem, ask for a manager and present your case in a CIVIL manner. They want to make your visit right and educate the employee. read more

I got a shock when I tried to place a carry-out order. It seems pricing is different from that on in-house menus if ordering from a delivery service, even if picking up. NO WHERE is this discrepancy pointed out. I only found out after my check passed $20 for items that should have been approximately $16. That's significant. One of the worst experiences I've ever had at a Bob Evans. Manager couldn't manage food came out at different times, People just walking around. Staff loud to each other manager being to friendly with staff and not delegating properly. Just horrible. I'm annoyed with how bad this was and how they literally don't know what customer service is. I went in there for a breakfast thinking I would be in and out. I sat at the counter where I could see the cluster show going on before my eyes. My server (she had a server/trainer tag on) How this woman is supposed to train anyone is beyond me. She basically grunted at me when i ordered but treated her sisters sitting next to me like royalty. It should not take a half hour to get my eggs, hash browns and toast, but it did. Disgusting bitter coffee, never checked on and when my eggs/hash browns came out she slid the plate and sneered that the toast should be up *soon*. Really? While I waited on my food (which I saw sitting on the counter under the warming lights) she and others were gossiping, standing around and doing nothing. At one point the *trainer/server* was flinging her arms around saying Imma tired Imma tired. I ate and got the hell out of there. how does this place even stay open. I will never go back. Stopped for breakfast with family You could feel a lot of tension when you came in. The the staff seemed to be on their own as management seemed nonexistent. My dining experience at the Cedar Road location was sub par. The beverages came in very small glasses as if we were children. By the time one was refilled, all at the table had to wait for refills, multiple times. The pancakes used to be almost the size of the plate, today...size of my palm-no fingers included. The waiter brought watery syrup for pancakes/French toast, the portions of my dinner entree were extremely small compared to what they used to be...not a healthy scoop of mashed potatoes, barely a leveled scoop, on top of even smaller size green beans and they were barely warm. Will not come back as this is not what I was used to. The meal itself was not indicative of the food that used to be served. The poor waiter could not handle the few COVID-spaced tables he had, not to mention that two in our party of four got hash browns when they asked for home fries...again, the food and service were not up to par with what I've known/experienced over the decades sad to say. read more

This location has a major issue with flies. It is disgusting. We were seated in a booth along the back wall and there were numerous flies sitting on the walls. I am talking about 30-40 flies. We were asked to be relocated to a different table. There were still flies in the air though. As the manager was making his rounds we told him about the fly problem. On a recent trip to this Bob Evans on my lunch break, I ordered the chicken Cobb salad and was utterly disappointed with the portion. The chicken & bacon was uncooked, the tomatoes were soft & soggy, I asked for cucumbers, extra dressing and biscuits and received none of it. Once I realized I had none of what I requested, I called the restaurant back and asked to speak to a manager, to which I was told they weren't in, and in asking for an assistant, I was put on hold for a long time and finally told I couldn't speak to anyone about my issue until Wednesday! Yesterday I was at Bob Evans and ordered the broasted chicken meal (tenders). When I first got it the meal looked super small as if it was a kids meal... I complained and the server Alyssa was very kind about it as some servers give you a face when you complain. She was very pleasant throughout the service and she took my whole order back and changed it. There was a manager who had come in on his day off to check on things and she fixed the whole order for me while giving me an extra side of macaroni. He was super pleasant and was dedicated to making me a satisfied customer. I love Bob Evans and always have, but I'm glad the service was also pleasant to go with the good food. P.S. Make your own informed decision. Went to this Bob Evans on a trip to Cleveland. 6 of us waited 30 minutes just before noon today (Saturday) to be seated. A couple of times we were told by the hostess that she was waiting for a group to get up so they could clean the tables, which we had no problem with. The problem started when she says it would just be 2 more minutes while she put the placemats on. Another 10 minutes and we still were not seated because the tables were not being cleaned so we finally spoke up (just then they started wiping the tables and placing the mats). Our salads arrived WITH the meal. One soup (bean) was missing so our server went to check. Finally, a guy came out and said it's an unpopular soup so it was frozen but he would go back and check on it. It finally came out when we were finished eating. The point is the service on this visit was terrible. The food was fine, just bad service. Another manager did offer a discount as he was shocked at what happened. As we were describing our situation to him, the hostess chimed in and then started laughing. (Thank you to that Manager). Very unfortunate for anyone working there that actually tries. read more

The one thing that has been pretty consistent about this place has been the bad service. And I have been at this location many times since they open. It is 8:15 on a Sunday night and they close at 9. The service was somewhat faster than usual because there are barely any people here. I understand they are getting ready to close but if you advertise being open until then you should have enough of everything to las until then. I ordered the bold coffee. It was cold and when I ask for a refill I was told they are not making anymore. The server did give me a drink of my choice at no charge. I do agree with the one reviewer here that said that there seem to be too many young people working here, and tonight I don't think there was a manager on site. I got to hear all of their personal conversations while dining as they where being pretty loud. Very unprofessional if you ask me. I keep coming to this location because is literally around the corner from my house,hoping that things have changed, so I dont have to travel 15 minutes up to the road to the Mayfield Heights location.
