Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich
Lenny B.

Every time I visit Cleveland and want a Nashville Hot chicken sandwich, I head to the Chicken Ranch! No one does it better!!!

Cleveland Hot Chicken Sandwich

Update 1/25/2025: I nearly forgotten how huge the servings are at Chicken Ranch when I impulsively bought a Cleveland Hot Chicken Sandwich today when out doing errands. While I nearly had a heart attack at the $16 price for just the sandwich, when it came out, hot and ready, 10 minutes later, I suddenly understood the high price! These super yummy, crispy, and generously portioned sandwiches are sooooo good! I have only two downsides. The dining room is incredibly cold. Way too cold! And this sandwich unfortunately meant I had almost no calories left for the rest of the day!

Chicken tenders and #2 THREE TENDERS W/ FRIES + CHOICE OF SAUCE

Customer service is great here the staff is very helpful the chicken is fresh and juicy the sauces look and taste homemade the fries were seasoned well and crispy outside creamy inside. It is a small place but looks nice and is comfortable most look like they order to go only.

I first saw this place on New Day Cleveland, and if Natalie recommends it, it has to be good, right. I like the fact that the get their chickens from southern Ohio and not some mega farm. Tensors we're awesome and I thought I would just take a bite of the Mac n cheese. That was one big bite, one continuous bite. Going go for the Cleveland sandwich.

Brownie is more like cake than a brownie. Cookies are caramel chocolate pecan and super thin yet super caramelly and sweet. The vanilla bean sweet potatoes were fantastic. Not too sweet but definitely sweet. Tender chunks throughout the creamy mix and a bit of vanilla or honey flavor in there too. The corn cake was not dry but just sort of there. Tiger shrimp was tail-on and had great spice without much heat which I appreciate. The mac n cheese was delicious! Great flavor, little bit of chili powder for heat, super duper creamy and cheesy. The Amish thighs were confusing. There was one large patty of fried chicken. I am confused. Was it one or two thighs? Hard to tell. Nice crispy breading with a bit of heat.

Solid new addition to University Heights! I'm generally not a fan of food in this area, but Chicken Ranch impressed me. We came specifically to try the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, but also ended up ordering the Cleveland Hot Chicken Sandwich with a side of jalapeño corn cake. Chicken is tender and juicy with crispy but not-too-greasy breading served on brioche with a light and vinegary coleslaw. These sandwiches are massive, with super generous chicken and slaw portions. Sauce selection is comprised of a whopping 16 different flavors, which always gets bonus points from me at chicken shops :D We tried four: comeback sauce and chili mayo (on the Nashville Hot and Cleveland Hot, respectively) plus 2 extra sides of Black Garlic Toum and Maple Tahini Yogurt. I personally liked all of them, but heads up that the maple is ridiculously sweet and probs too much for most people. Our only complaint was that both of the "hot" sandwiches had just barely the slightest hint of spice. Both the Nashville Hot (rated 5/5 on their scale) and Cleveland Hot (4/5) had absolutely zero kick and would've more appropriately been rated 0/5 and 1/5 imo because neither the accompanying sauces nor the hot oil rub were spicy whatsoever. Honestly even Popeye's spicy chicken sandwich packs way more of a punch than this! Personally I'm not much of a cornbread person but loved the flavorful jalapeño honey butter spread that our sides came with, though I wished this had been actually spicy as well. Really wanted to round this place up from 4.5 stars bc the food was quite enjoyable but unfortunately spice level was disappointing. I realize that they don't exactly specialize in hot chicken here but when I order an item labeled "Nashville Hot" with 5/5 flames on the menu, I expect to feel at least a little bit of heat. Would still recommend checking this place out though for the tasty chicken and fun sauces!

I've been here twice now - I've gotten the tenders and the Nashville sandwich. The batter is super. There's no dispute there. I mean, the food itself is solid. Yet something is holding me back from recommending this joint at a high level. Maybe it's that the chicken is, in parts, chewy. You expect your teeth to sink right through the chicken when you bite into it, but instead sometimes you find that you've hooked a chunk of the chicken and pulled it out of the batter. I think the great flavor masks the quality of the chicken breast, which isn't at all bad - you just don't get the texturally perfect experience that other restaurants that specialize in fried chicken products often manage to deliver. But also, the price. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is $14. That's high to begin with. But consider the actual price you'll be paying depending on how you deal with the tip screen, 15/20/25% default choices, employee still standing at the register waiting, your food yet to be prepared. This practice, while obviously no longer unusual, is not present when you buy a $4.99 no-less-delicious chicken sandwich at the Popeye's less than a mile away. True, the sandwich here is bigger, but not 3x. This is a small place set up mainly for take-out, but it has a few tables that you can bring your food to and eat if you want. I like dingy little restaurants intended for the masses, but the masses - at least, in the future, this mass - are going to be priced out.

LOVIN' this place! Now that Chicken Ranch has expanded their hours, we were able to visit and boy was this enjoyable!! The Tenders were huge! Crunchy and meaty. The bleu cheese and buttermilk dips were both fresh and tasty. Nice chunks of bleu with that expected tang. Nothing is better than creamy Buttermilk dip on fried chicken. It was also wonderful on the shrimp, a nice addition to the menu. My wife enjoyed the crispy buttermilk chicken sandwich, claiming only she thought there was a bit too much salt. The White Cheddar Mac & Cheese was good, my wife liking it more than me. If you've been to Lox, Stock &Brisket in the same spot, you'll feel at home. Not many aesthetic changes, just a different purveyor of top notch food. Everything is fresh and a constant flow of visitors was great to see. You should consider joining the party!

Even down to their coleslaw which was pretty tasty and reminiscent of KFC's slaw as well. The fries were fresh, unique and kinda sweet where the misses said they tasted like "donuts?" The garlic aioli sauce was BANGING and tasted great dipping all the food in it. After sharing a meal all we were talking about was what we'll get the NEXT TIME WE GO BACK! Thumbs up on this food

I specifically asked for all white meat with mashed potatoes/gravy and green beans as my two sides. The cashier went to the back, returned and said there would be an additional charge for all white meat. I agreed. I did not have a long wait for my food. When I got home, I found two large orders of mash potatoes/gravy and a mix of white and dark meat. 4 pieces of dark and two white. I was so angry because given I was the only one there and they cashier had made a point of checking the cost of an all white meat order, it felt intentional instead of a mistake. I will not be going to this Mr. Chicken again. Note: The meal might have been tasty, but it tasted like dust because of my disappointment and frustration.

The cashier whispered that he should say it is CBD-only flower to avoid getting anyone in trouble...yikes. Anyways, if you can temporarily ignore the total circus environment this place is in then you will experience the best fried chicken and biscuits I've ever had in my life. That's right- out of all of the myriad fried poultry and biscuits from sit down to drive through I've had in my 28 years, this gas station stuff is THE BEST. I've gone three days in a row now and I'm hooked. The thighs and legs are $1.79 ($1.75?) each and the breasts are $2.79 per. Each piece is crispy, crunchy, and hot yet super juicy! Nothing dry here ever. The barbecue sauce is a horrific pinkish red concoction of what must be some sort of depot barbecue sauce tainted with hot sauce and should be avoided at all costs. The biscuits come in honey butter coated regular flavor or glazed blueberry. I normally avoid biscuits and cornbread and the like in general because they always just seem to serve no purpose other than to dry my mouth out and crumble all over everything. These biscuits are DIVINE. They have a slightly crispy outer surface with not moist yet not at all dry interior and are covered in a most sinfully delicious honey butter glaze. They are absolutely ungodly good. The banana pudding in a nearby grab and go cooler is inexplicably $3.99 which is too expensive for a small container even thought it is a nice texture and taste owing to cream cheese in the ingredient list. The cake slices are large and for the same price aren't bad- not dry but not as moist as I'd like either although frosting isn't skimpy. The $1.99 cheesecake slices are to be forgotten. I wrestled with whether to let the cat out of the bag in sharing this gem in the ghetto, but it truly is worth all the business it gets and much more.

I visit KFC exactly once a year when especially craving lots of comfort food. On this occasion, I…read morewas craving chicken. It was too late in the day to procure rotisserie chicken at the supermarket. And so, I found myself at the KFC drive thru. ORDER: I spent $50.49 at this KFC! This seems absolutely wild! I shared this price with my mom who hasn't visited KFC in a year and she thought I was joking. I purchased a bucket with 16 pieces, 4 large sides, and biscuits. Was I satisfied with my meal? No, not at all. The chicken was too dry on the inside and just right on the outside. The sides were okay. Coleslaw was too watery. Mac and cheese was delicious but had some remnants of green beans inside. Mashed potatoes looked not so appetizing. Corn was very poorly prepared, dry and unseasoned. The biscuits were very mushy. I couldn't figure out if they weren't fully prepared or just sitting out awhile. I'd get Mac and cheese again at this location. The rest of the meal components were not good. SERVICE: The service at this location was pretty good considering it's a drive thru. My order was up in minutes. I expected to wait for the rest of my life like I do at other KFC's. I was pleasantly surprised with the speed of service considering I was starving. The only change I'd make is to ask customers how many pieces of chicken they want and what type of chicken pieces best suit them. I'm not picky on terms of chicken piece types but some customers are very particular. LOCATION: This eatery is located on Mayfield Road. It's an easy and highway free drive from Mayfield Heights or Cleveland Heights. The entrance at this location is very poorly positioned. You have to battle a lot of traffic to get in or turn around to enter the restaurant from the same side of the street. It was a pain to say the least. Stop in if you're looking for great service but don't expect great food. If you're looking for something quick and a meal you can eat for days, this might be a good option.

The food also comes out rather quickly, as the menu is not very large, focusing primarily on chicken, waffles, and a few sides. Usually, when a restaurant keeps its menu limited, you can expect that the food will be top notch, as fewer moving parts in a kitchen allows for better focus. Yet, I found that the experience fell flat, with very salty chicken and soggy waffles. Ordering is easy, with the options of a few different combos, varying in the amount of chicken, fries, or waffles you get. For the price point, you get a decent amount of food which is always nice. There's also a decent amount of sauce options as well. The interior is cute with a honeycomb theme along with outdoor patio seating which seems to be shared by the other local restaurants. I did come from out of town, so I will likely not be back in general. However, I would not add this to my list of places to try again.

One note, NOT a negative to me but may be noteworthy for some: I don't think Gigi's is a spot for kids or large family events with kids, unless they have a private dining space I'm unaware of. Space between tables is tight and the space overall is not huge but they make great use of the space. The staff are extremely efficient and there are many of them moving with trays at any given time, it's absolutely not a spot to walk around with a toddler if they get bored at the table.
