I like the spicy pork, but the sauce is a little thick for my tastes - I'm used to the flavor being more imbued in the meat itself, rather than drenching the pork in sauce. I've always seen it, and friends have always told me great things about it, but I never got to try it until yesterday. I got the rice bowl (comes with salad and corn, potato noodles, a fried egg, choice of meat-- I choose the pork belly, all on top of rice). And let me just preface that by saying, it was so good. For $9 (the tax was already included in the price), you get just about as perfect of a lunch you can get from a food truck. The korean tacos here were far better than they looked in the pictures on the side of the truck. The servings of meat were generous, the shells were soft but substantial enough not to disintegrate in the sauce. And they were kind of tasty. I dunno, is that an endorsement? They all seemed to have the same watery, sweetish dressing and certainly lacked the zip and punch one might have hoped for in a korean taco. Or even a regular taco. I added six packets of Frank's Red Hot from the secret stash in my desk drawer, and that helped a lot. So I'd rate this as "ok," as a vehicle for hot sauce, but not necessarily worth getting on its own. read more

But I absolutely love the beef burrito and it's a very solid food truck lunch for just $9. The meat is the star (I stick with beef) and the other toppings add just enough flavor without getting in the way. The sauce that comes with it is more sweet than heat, so I like to add a little sriracha to the party. I'd still say Fat Shallot and its buffalo chicken reign supreme...but Bob Cha is easily a top three, if not top two truck for me. read more

Pretty delicious, well flavored, and good portion size for the beef rice bowl. The fried egg was cooked well, still runny on the inside. Don't confuse this with Bob Cha SF when searching Bob cha online for the menu. Made this mistake and expected to find korean fried chicken and bacon fried rice at this food truck. I ordered the pork bulgogi from the Bob Cha food truck recently while it was stationed on the west side of Wacker Drive just north of Adams, which has become a hotspot for food trucks. The guy gives you a number after you place your order, but there was minimal wait before my meal was ready. The pork bulgogi had a bit of spiciness to it, but the little patch of kimchi was far spicier (let alone the cup of bright red-orange hot sauce that I did not dare try). The scoop of fried rice and the side salad slaw with corn and olive were decent counterpoints to the spicier stuff. read more

Found the truck Wednesday at Franklin & Randolph. I first thought that this was the same truck in SF, but after much research, I'm pretty sure it is not. Even though they have the same name, their logos are different and have different twitter accounts. Therefore, their menu is nothing like the SF one, which to my disappointment wasn't discovered until I arrived at the truck. I got the taco trio and all their meats were quite tasty. However, it could have been better. Also, would have preferred the use of soft shell over the hard shells. I understand fusion but to me, just having Korean meat in a taco along with cheese, lettuce, corn, and olives just doesn't quite work. It was fairly decent but by no means outstanding. The accompanying hot sauce was by no means like any gochujang. It actually was more like sriarcha. Maybe that's what it was, but everything so far weighed too much on the American side for me. Sister had the rice bowl and they were able to make it vegetarian. There wasn't much going on as there weren't a variety of veggies like there are in a traditional bimbimbap, but it had a nice sweet flavor to the rice bowl. This isn't so much Korean/Asian fusion to me as it is American food with a hint of Korean/Asian. There needs to be bolder flavors and more cohesive and thought out dishes. Mediocre. read more

Two stars only because the Korean meat was pretty delicious. I got one of each of the three tacos. You have the choice of hard or soft shell..I got the soft shell and it's flour, not corn. Corn tortilla is much better for tacos in my opinion. The ingredients were lettuce, cheese, olives.. just imagine going to taco bell and swapping out the meats. They serve it with a little side cup of sriracha, which was probably the second best part of the taco. Some sides like fries would also be a nice option here. They aren't terrible tacos, I would eat there again if they were cheaper (currently $2.50 a piece)... but it's hard to justify it when there are other options for Korean tacos in Chicago (Del Seoul) that are much better. read more

Review for Bob Cha trucks in HYDE PARK. The spicy pork bowl is my favorite. There's a little bit of everything in the bowl: meat, rice, noodles, salad, egg -- so the flavors don't get boring! Make sure you get the rice bowl from the Bob Cha truck on Ellis though (not University). The Ellis truck fries their eggs whereas the University truck scrambles theirs. I was pretty disappointed with Bob Cha. Korean BBQ in Mexican food has taken over the fusion world (thank you Kogi truck from LA), and I couldn't be happier. But Bob Cha's rendition on this fusion food was particularly disappointing. I would rather eat just Korean food or just Mexican food - this food truck didn't elevate the best part of each cuisine. I ordered a KBBQ beef burrito and couldn't even finish half of it - and I normally can finish however much food is put in front of me. Unfortunately I would not come back. For good fusion food in Chicago I would make it out to Del Seoul instead. read more

Diabetics Beware!!!--I got the beef rice bowl. Not great. Lots of overcooked but o.k. beef, scant veges. In fact the promised vegetables were a tablespoon or two of slaw. The problem for me (which I understand is not a problem for everyone ) is that the marinade for the beef and the dressing for the veges have VERY substantial amounts of sugar. I know that Korean food can tend to sweet sauces--so this was a risk--though the degree of sweetness was a little surprising The 2 stars don't reflect the amount of sugar--which is fine for a lot of folks--but the mediocrity of the food for the money.. However, I wanted to warn other diabetics (and we are unfortunately legion in the U.S.) that this is not a good option. I had 2 chicken tacos- they give you a lot of chicken for the money! (1 taco =$2.50) I think it's a great value. The chicken was flavorful and moist, and the veggies were nice and fresh. I ate here once three weeks ago and I did not fell well after I ate. I always give Food Trucks the benefit of the doubt and always try them twice. This time, there was no doubt. I am currently bent over a trash can with food poisoning from Bob Cha. Two times is not a coincidence and they need to solve their sanitary issues ASAP. Great experience at UfC campus location. Had 2 tacos, one chicken and one beef. Both were very generous in terms of amount of protein. Both were composed of tender and tastee meat with corn and cabbage. Nice mix of subtle sweet with heat form sauce on side. Overall 4+ stars for food plus one for generosity. Had a chance try out Bob Cha's spicy pork rice bowl and I loved it! Portion was generous and the meat was very tender and lots of flavor. I have to say I would've liked it better if it was more spicy but that's because I LOVE spicy food. My friend also had a beef rice bowl with more clear noodle than rice ( you can ask for the just the noodle I think) and it was pretty delicious as well. I've never had clear noodle before so it was new. It's not like the normal noodles you eat but more stickier and chewier? Definitely more flavorous since it kind of soaks up the sauce. They also give you frequent buyer card so that was a plus too. Will definitely be back to try other menus! read more

I have been a loyal patron since the beginning. I always get the beef rice bowl. I have never had a complain about this dish until today. I don't like the fact they swapped the fried egg for the scrambled egg. I get it that they did to expedite orders, but the fried egg was one of the best things about that dish. I still get it though. Today, my dish was soooo dry and was mainly rice...barely any noodles and eggs. And basically no dressing. I had told them the last time I got food there that I hope they keep up their quality since they were in my opinion one of the best food trucks.
