With one hundred and twenty three years of industrial and consumer level bicycles and tricycles…read moreunder their belt, I'm hard pressed to offer up a guess for a more historic, storied and successful American manufacturing company, not listed on the exchanges. Worksman's roots begin in the late 1800s, a stones throw away from the current 9/11 memorial, (I typically prefer not to use this ground as a point of direction with such a loss of innocent life lost) then to Queens N.Y., now Conway, S.C. They manufactured the wheels for the origional push carts -- speaking of which -- ice cream and hotdog push carts, and food trucks are also manufactured, but remain in NYC. I've had the opportunity to purchase a tricycle at the New York location, a beautifully designed and tough as nails MOVER model which still serves me well, yet relegated to limited duty, not making the trip South. Needing a fresh set of wheels, opting for a more sporty two instead of the heavy hauling three, I met with one of the executives I had forged a relationship with back in Queens. Our history of buisness and genuine enjoyment of each others company, Mr. Wayne invited me to come see the new one hundred and seventy five thousand square foot facility in Conway. As we walked the factory floor, the moment of American worker pride was strong. Each dedicated to their departments toil, the factory was ripe with heads held high, a bounce to their walk, pride in their eyes. Afterwards, we sat in the officers to discuss the particulars of my custom cruiser. With a plethora of options to accompany the cool loop drop frame design, Mr. Wayne and I went line by line, option by option to create something very special, something not pre made, not dangling from a shelf or stuck in a small section of a sporting goods store. This build will be a reflection of me, built by hands that I shook and arms that I embraced. The final product will arrive this week, (pictures to follow) and slightly ahead of schedule. As mentioned, the ability to customize each component and color, coupled with the tour made this one of the more memorable purchases I've had to date. If your located in an area if the country that creates a geographic challenge and you can not swing by and stop in as I did, not a problem. The website will guide you through the options available and a friendly customer service representative on the other end of the phone is available to assist your future purchase if ever the need were to arise.
