I am waiting to write this because it was so so. For Porto it's great. It's very touristy and the food was ok. This reminds me of fast food chains but just a bit more. Nothing stood out and because I'm writing this several months late, I can't remember if anything was good. It wasn't bad, but honestly at this point I can't remember. I think people came here more to drink. I'd have to go back to get a better assessment of this place. Excellent all around! Food was phenomenal, fresh, tasty and the accommodated my allergies. The atmosphere was fun and adventurous. The table next to us had the best looking drinks served in fun and appetizing ways. My tea was served in the best teapot. The salmon and veggies was delicious, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Boa-Bao was a great find while taking in the sights of Porto. In this city great seafood is easy to come by so it was a treat to the Asian flavors in Europe. Started with a sampler plate as we wanted to savor every little bite. Then we moved on to the main course. Opted for the Black Tiger Shrimp which was the star of this show. I've had the pleasure of dining at both the Porto and Lisbon locations and both have the look and feel of a Michelin-starred restaurant (which honestly, they deserve it) and the service from the wait staff fits the exquisite decor; Top notch. This time I started with the Peking duck spring rolls which were absolutely delightful with that savory-flavor with a hint of plum. That was followed up with the Crispy Chicken and Sweet Potato Bao, which is AMAZING. The Bao is exceptionally fluffy with the crunchy slice of chicken in the tangy sauce, and a perfect quick pickle sliver to round it out. Then for my entree we had the Japchae with beef. This flavor profile was exactly what I was looking for, a nice soy base stir-fry with sweet potato noodles, vegetables, and topped with perfectly grilled beef strips. This combo with an ice-cold Kirin was the perfect end to a long day in Porto. Had a fantastic dinner here a few days ago. Cute little restaurant with a great vibe and nice decor. The service was great, and the food was really good. The Pandan Mule cocktail was absolutely delicious, and unlike anything I've ever had - definitely a repeat order. The Japchae was perfect in every way, and we ended up ordering another one. The beef pho was very flavorful but could have been hotter. The chicken bao bun was just okay to me. A full rating just for the server alone, this young man who was patient and helpful with me to help customize the dishes for my picky vegetarian needs. I ended up with some colorful and delicious dumplings which I got thru in like 3 minutes. The dessert menu looked so enticing that we ended up getting one of each. It seems to be a rotating menu, so I can't find what we got, but there was some sweet dumplings in coconut sauce and a delicious bitter chocolate cake. My friend and I came here for our first dinner because we were craving asian food. We had landed earlier in the day and decided to take a chance on getting a table here without a reservation. Luck was on our side and we were able to get a table for two. Our waitress was great, suggestive, and helpful. We ordered multiple things to give a try. Everything we ordered was delicious and filling. The bao buns, dumplings, and fried rice we ordered were excellent. When it came time to pay, we waited for a very very long time for our check not realizing we had to ask for it. An excellent find in Porto! We were looking for an alternative to traditional Portugese fare while on vacation, and a quick Google search for "Asian dumplings" yielded this gem as the #2 search result. Close to our hotel, so off we went! The interior of this place was SO COOL!! A little bar at the front greets you right past the host stand, and all the fun glassware they serve their drinkware in was on full display. Looks for the 3 monkeys too! Seated at the counter since all the dining tables were busy, and while we were bummed at first, it ended up being great as we overlooked the open kitchen concept, which was like having dinner and a show! Ordered the dim sum, Vietnamese spring rolls, Peking duck fried rolls, duck gao bao, and the japchae. A great amount of food for two hungry people! Husband got the Bamboo cocktail, said it was the 'funnest' drink he ever had, but didn't want more than one. The dim sum was good, but felt pricey - 9 euros for 6 dumplings. Duck fried rolls were totally worth it, the duck gao bao were dry and flavorless. The japchae was the most amazing japchae I've ever had in my life, and that's saying something considering it's my favorite Korean dish. Flavor was on point, I'll be dreaming of that once I'm back in the States. Worth every penny of 15 euros. Overall a great experience, but didn't get 5 stars as it was HOT as all hell in the restaurant. No A/C (or it wasn't on) and being near the woks was sweaty. Also, our server was not good. Didn't bring drinks until we were almost done with dinner, and still forgot the liter of water. Couldn't find her for a good 10 min after we asked for the bill either. Go for the food, deal with the service! A restaurant that serves Korean, Chinese and Jaoanese foods, wok'd by cooks that speak English, served up in Portugal. Does it get any better? Trendy spot for some really good Asian food on a cold night In Porto. When we first got there, there were lot of space by the front door (which is nice if it's rainy or cold etc), we thought the restaurant was empty and would have no wait, once we walked past the first bar , we realized the place was packed! We were directed to sit at the bar in the back while waiting for a friend, they gave us a cute piece of "boarding pass" , as a sign that we r "waiting to be next " for a table. How cute is that idea! Their craft cocktails all had a cool mix of ingredients and even the presentations were creative. My gin drink was served in a teapot, I thought it was my friends tea at first. I so wanted to like this place since it is the only 'Asian fusion' restaurant in Porto, but the food was so blah. The service is basically non-existent, all the waiters just congregate in the back of the restaurant by the bar talking and hanging out while the guests are ignored. Our pad Thai, which I have had on many occasions and around the world, has never tasted like that (and that is not a good thing). The decor was interesting, but I will not be returning. We were excited about coming to Boa Bao after hearing so many great reviews, and I'm happy to say we were not disappointed. We made a reservation 3 days in advance and was seated right away. Yummy selection of drinks and mock tails, and the menu had a variety of dishes. I will say this is not like other typical Portuguese restaurants - the servings were not big. Don't under order if you're trying to share! Seeming that this was one of the only Asian restaurants in Porto (with good reviews) the prices made sense. But it wasn't one of the cheapest restaurant we've eaten at in Portugal. The bao buns are a must try - we recommend the classic and chicken. Also (not shown) the pork and kimchi manduu was great. Down this cobblestone block you will find plenty of bars/restaurants/tapas to get your drank and grub on. BUT Boa-Bao was a place to fill my homesick tummy. I needed some rice and spicy Thai food. It is a fusion of Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese. This restaurant satisfied that craving, although nothing is ever spicy enough for this Thai girl. The cocktails made up for that though. The drinks are well crafted to excite your taste pallets. My favorite is the Bao Uau which has the spiciness from the ginger and hint of sweetness from the edlwflower liquor and creaminess from the egg whites. My boyfriend had the Khi khi Pho which is definitely more for the adventurous type. It's a whiskey drink mixed with pho broth and dried fungus. I have to admit it wasn't bad. Visiting Porto for the first time with my husband and decided to give this spot a chance. Without a reservation we waited about 35 mins, but well worth it. Our waiter António was friendly, delightful and beyond attentive with us. We struggled with the language, but he helped us out and was patient with us. We visited this restaurant this week past week. This is a new addition to the (much needed) variety of world food in Porto. First off, I must applaud them on the decor, it's very unique and transports you to Asia. The menu is fusion of vietnamese and thai with lot and lots of options to choose from and the best part, it is vegetarian friendly! During this visit, I tried the Vegetarian steamed dumplings, the veggie rolls, the steamed eggplants and the seafood dumplings. All dishes were nicely executed and very tasty. One thing I will add in order to make it a totally good experience, is not make sure the waiters stay on top of their game, when we arrived, we waited a good time to have our order taken.
