Rodney's is a genteel bar/eatery in a restored house with an upmarket seafood & steak menu, plus outdoor seating. For our opening course, we tried the Sea Divers Scallops. These were tandoori-rubbed and served with a sweet Thai chili sauce. The scallops had a good sear and a slight crunch, with the tandoori rub offering a mild, earthy kick and a hint of chili powder flavor. The scallop was light and melted in your mouth. The Thai chili sauce added a sweet heat combo that complemented the scallops perfectly. We then shared the Lobster Bisque, which our server recommended. The bisque was very creamy, with a slightly thicker, velvety texture than typical bisques. It was so creamy that it almost tasted like it had cheese in it, which it did not. It had a salty, slightly paprika-spiced flavor, while the sherry added a slight nutty note. This was an excellent dish and worth the drive itself. For my main course, I ordered the Lamb Chops. They were char-grilled with roasted garlic mint demi-glace and the Potato de jur, which is smoked Gouda au gratin. My lamb was spot-on medium-rare; however, the char was a little hard and bitter, especially on the edges. This was present in most bites. The mint sauce added a touch of sweetness and depth to the meat's flavor. The potatoes were cooked through and offered a slight chew. The Gouda was creamy and nutty, pairing well with the potatoes, though it needed a bit more seasoning. My wife chose the Filet for her main course. She ordered it medium rare with Weisenberger white cheddar grits and green peppercorn cream sauce. Her grits were cooked well and not overdone; the cheddar was only topped on the dish and not melted into it, but it did offer a sharp bite. We both found them to be bland and in need of seasoning. The peppercorn sauce was creamy, with the onions adding texture, crunch, and a slight sweetness, while the peppercorns popped with flavor and mild heat. The steak was seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare; it melted in your mouth. However, the hard char on the edges added a heavy, bitter flavor to most bites. Rodney's menu features appetizers, soups, salads, prime beef selections, entrees, side dishes, and desserts. They offer a full bar with beer and soda selections. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will offer suggestions and advice. The Fat Man says that Rodney's on Broadway is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.

After leaving yet another distillery, the ladies in our group wanted to head to Georgetown for some shopping. The other guy in our party was about as thrilled at the idea of shopping as he'd be about getting a root canal without anesthesia--and I was in full agreement. As we searched for a parking spot along the crowded Georgetown Main Street, I spotted Chinquapin Brewing and immediately declared that the men would be there. "Just come pick us up when you're done," I told them. My wife and our friend were more than happy to leave us in front of TVs and beer while they wandered in and out of the local shops. It was the first time either of us had been to the brewery. Right away, I loved seeing the brewing equipment set up in the back of the bar. We scanned the QR code on the table and pulled up the beer menu. I'm a big fan of red ales and was happy to see one offered. My friend is less adventurous than I am, so he stuck with his tried-and-true Guinness. I opened a tab, and we started enjoying our beers. The red ale was very good--so good that I ordered more than one. My friend's Guinness was going down way too easily, and he ordered another as well. Eventually, the ladies came to retrieve us, and my wife even added a bourbon to my tab. We sat together and enjoyed one last round. We didn't try any food, but the beer and the service were excellent. I'm already looking forward to our next "shopping trip" to Georgetown so I can sample more of their offerings.

Unfortunately they didn't have growlers and weren't able to fill mine. Ended up getting a can of the hefeweizen, it was very malt forward and just not my favorite. I was super excited for a health food smoothie bar to open in Georgetown! I mean, that's awesome…read more Just what we needed!! When I heard about the Wooden Straw and saw all my friends checking in on Facebook, talking about how wonderful this place was, I had high hopes. Well. I walked in and noticed immediately that everything is Herbalife. Here's the thing, as someone that has tried a variety of different health food shakes on the marketing and is actively reading labels & trying to eat healthy (mostly Paleo), I know that Herbalife is NOT one of the best ones out there. A quick look at the ingredients of the Formula 1 product (that they use for their shakes, I believe) shows a very little amount of actual nutrition or/and protein. Meh. There are also Herballife products all over the place. SO. With that in mind, I decided to push aside my bias and try a shake anyway. I mean, it has to be healthier than a Big Mac, right? (It is. I'm not arguing that.) For $6.50, you get three things: a shot of aloe, a cup of tea, and a shake! You have the option of the aloe being put in the tea, which is what I always do when I come here (yes, I've been here several times now). I usually opt for the Chai tea, but there is also green tea, raspberry tea, and another flavor available. The raspberry is good, too! I always get iced tea. I think hot tea is an option, but not entirely sure. Now. The shakes. Oh, my goodness, the chalkboard wall just has wayyyy too many options! I didn't know what to get! There are mutiple different flavor formulas that can create even more flavored shakes! Some of these include vanilla, chocolate, cafe latte, dulce de leche, pina colada, orange, just to name a few. From these, you can have chocolate cake, coconut crush, and so forth. The list goes on and on. After deliberating over what I felt like 'eating', I decided upon a lemon cake shake. They poured the powder in the water, added stuff, blended, and voila! Had a yummy-looking shake ready for me, nearly overflowing the clear, plastic cup. It tasted.... OK. Like a lemon cake. Ice cream. With lots of sugar. And some weird product after taste. Did not wow me. (Because of this, I gave them another try another day and tried a different drink which was a little bit better.) I have tried three different drinks from The Wooden Straw and am still not blown away An another note --- the people who work there are very friendly and happy to see you. There is no issue with service whatsoever. There is always music playing, and I believe, WiFi available. There's a bar you can sit at to enjoy your drinks or a soft couch (near a little kid's play area) to sit and relax. I like what they did with the feel of the place. Do I absolutely love Wooden Straw? Nope. I don't really like the Herballife products. But will I be back? Yes. Sometimes. Because..... these shakes may not be the healthiest, but they're definitely better than a Big Mac. And I do like trying different drink flavors. Cheers. TIP: Check in on Facebook when you're there and you get 50 cents off your drink.

After leaving yet another distillery, the ladies in our group wanted to head to Georgetown for some shopping. But before the shopping could begin, we needed lunch. We had stopped at Fava's a few weeks earlier with another group of friends for breakfast, and it was excellent. With that great experience in mind, we decided to try Fava's again, this time for lunch. The décor is classic Old Town Kentucky--exactly the kind of place that brings back childhood memories of small-town restaurants. Charming, comfortable, and familiar. We seated ourselves and looked over the menu. I went with the chili cheese hot dog with fries. My wife and one of our friends chose the open-faced Reuben, and the last member of our group ordered the club sandwich. Every dish was excellent. The club sandwich was so large it required a to-go box. Before leaving, everyone except me ordered pie to go-- Fava's pies are legendary, at least to my wife and me. I skipped dessert this time and immediately regretted missing their ice cream options. We dropped the pies off in the car (it was cold enough outside to keep them safe), and then the ladies headed off to explore the shops of Georgetown. I'm already looking forward to our next "shopping trip" to Georgetown so I can enjoy their food again--and this time, I won't miss out on the ice cream.
